This is the first roleplay post I've written on this site. Thank you to @Ruth Fairchild for being my mentor! Additional mention goes to @Angel Dayes for expressing interest in having our characters be friends. Otherwise, this is open for anyone to join.

Ѵioletta thought back to how she found herself standing on a platform that she previously thought would have been impossible to exist in the first place.

It really all began earlier in the year. To be precise, the spring of 2025. The month before her eleventh birthday, she and another girl she once called a good friend (albeit loosely) had gotten into a scuffle in the courtyard of her school, St. Joseph's Private Academy. It didn't happen in a way that Violetta had ever intended it to; really all she meant to do was set the record straight. "It's really unbecoming of you to do such a thing, Julianne." the memory of her words echoing in her mind, "I'm not sure what gave you the idea that I have hair extensions, but I must ask that you cease the spreading of such lies at once."

The very thing that Julianne Powell had done was spread a fairly nasty rumor about Violetta around the school. She had cut ties with her after Julianne went out of her way to find a roach and try to sneak it into the bag of another student, one she held a particular disdain for, and Violetta decided that she couldn't be associated with a girl who would resort to such actions. So Julianne thought it to be appropriate to pay her back by telling everyone who would listen that Violetta's hair wasn't real.

The snider portion of Violetta's mind had suggested that Julianne brought the roach from home. When she thought of it that way, she allowed herself a giggle at the idea, as it made quite a bit of sense. She wouldn't ever say it out loud, however. It would be just as unbecoming as the very action Julianne had taken herself.

More to the point, the scuffle ended with Julianne's long brown hair mysteriously braiding itself to the wrought iron bars of the schoolyard fence. It was as if her own locks were giving her a taste of her own medicine; a kind of payback for lying about another girl's hair. She had, of course, kicked and screamed both in fear and in anger that her hair had apparently decided to act on its own, and Violetta hadn't the slightest clue as to how it happened or what to do after the fact. She simply turned on the ball of her foot and walked away, hoping for the best.

Of course, the best being hoped for was all for naught, as it hadn't been much longer until they both found themselves with severe punishments and even having expulsion threatened to the both of them.

Violetta did her best to let the whole ordeal blow over, but it certainly didn't help that a new, even nastier rumor had spread around her school. One that described her as being a violent ruffian with a penchant for attacking girls with hair longer than hers. If she had any hope of evading this rumor, it was quickly dashed when she saw Julianne in the hall for the first time since the incident.

Julianne's wavy brown hair that once hung down just below her waist was now a choppy, uneven mess that barely met her shoulders. The school groundskeeper had unfortunately resorted to using his hedge clippers to free Julianne from her bind. Try as he might, he just couldn't seem to unfurl the braids with his fingers, and so drastic measures had to be taken.

Of course, the perplexity of things didn't end there.

The 28th of May finally rolled around; the very day that Violetta Greene turned eleven! She'd always enjoyed her birthdays, especially considering that school always let out for the summer either the day of, or just after her birthday. It didn't always mean she got to lounge around for the summer, seeing as how she's already got a multitude of obligations to attend to outside of school. The way her parents saw things, it was simply a convenient way to eliminate a significant block of time from her already packed schedule.

But for the six days following her birthday, she had nothing else to worry about. The one week a year that she was allowed to do nothing more than whatever she liked.

Unfortunately, this year, that week didn't go as planned.

On the 29th of May, a peculiar letter had shown up in the post box. A letter that had been delivered to her that morning, by one of the maids employed by her parents.

Ms. Ѵ. Greene,
The Grand Bedroom Above The Study,
1023 Cerulean Way, Nottingham, Great Britian

This, she thought was odd. It was sealed with a wax stamp, and above that stamp was a logo that read Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy.

Violetta's jaw dropped. A school for witchcraft and wizardry? She found the notion quite interesting, a school dedicated to magic. Briefly, she wondered what the possibilities for the future could be. What kind of magic was out there for her to learn and experience, the kinds of adventures she could have, or even the kinds of whimsy that she once dreamed about as a little girl.

Then, like anyone who came across an obvious piece of prank mail, she rolled her eyes and tossed the envelope into the rubbish bin by her vanity. What in the world kind of name is 'Hogwarts', anyways? It must be that Powell girl trying to get back at her again, and if so, it was certainly a dismal attempt at trying to prank her. She went back to brushing her honey blonde hair and soon forgot about the letter.

The next day, Violetta was having lunch alone in the dining room—her parents had nary a minute to spend at home due to their own busy schedules—enjoying a freshly prepared garden salad made by the family's private chef, when another maid had delivered her a second letter.

This time, Violetta had felt the crawling sensation of worry trickling down her spine.

Ms. Ѵ. Greene,
The Dining Chair Facing the Flowerbed Window,
1023 Cerulean Way, Nottingham, Great Britian

Who in the world was sending these letters? Why were they so strangely specific regarding her whereabouts? She whipped her head to the side to look out of the window to her left, and saw nothing more than a perfectly manicured lawn with the perfectly trimmed Gardenia bushes lining the edges of the garden being visited by a perfectly beautiful pair of hummingbirds on a perfectly nice spring day.

She ordered the maids not to deliver her any more letters addressed to her in such a manner, and to discard them immediately upon retrieving them. Violetta hoped that would solve this particularly perplexing problem, and tried to enjoy the rest of her birthday break.

The morning after that, she got up from bed and sat down on her vanity to comb through her hair, the same as she'd done since she first started taking meticulous care of it. She pulled out the drawer on the upper right corner to retrieve her hair oil and soft bristled brush when she saw another blasted envelope.

Ms. Ѵ. Greene,
The Upper Right Dr-

She didn't bother to finish reading the address of the letter, stuffing it in the same rubbish bin she shoved the first one in. Did one of the maids put it in her vanity while she was away from her bedroom? Is this some horribly elaborate prank being played on her to jostle her nerves? Magic wasn't real! It couldn't be! There had to be a conspiracy afoot! Yes, there had to be, and she knew exactly who would be able to get to the bottom of this. Her father. He was a renowned business lawyer, and a scarily efficient one at that.

Oh yes, he would know exactly what to do about this. She turned around to retrieve her phone, seeing where it always was; sitting atop the rosewood nightstand on the left side of her silk-sheeted bed. But she paused for one horrible moment when her eyes caught a glimpse of something.

The corner of another horrid, cloth-papered envelope poking out from under her pillow.

Violetta decided that this was too much. Who would go so far to prank her like this? Was Julianne that desperate to get back at her for cutting ties with her? She wasn't even the reason her hair had been ruined! But a resolve like hers could only take so much, and finally, it buckled.

"Oh, I give up." she sighed heavily, dipping her head as her un-combed fringe hung away from her face, "I suppose I can't put it off any longer.". She reached for the envelope, breaking the wax seal with her polished thumbnail and opened the letter, fully expecting there to be ridiculously insulting words jumping out at her from the carefully folded paper inside. She was ready for her ego to take a hit!

"Dear Ms. Greene,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary—"

Violetta didn't get much time to read through it before one of the maids knocked on her bedroom door. "Miss, you have a visitor." she began uneasily. "He and your mother are waiting in the foyer. He says he wishes to speak with you."

What? The words were lost on her. Her mouth moved before her brain could catch up, and Violetta replied "Thank you, Mary-Anne. I'll be down in a moment." instead of the 'What in the world is the meaning of this?' she really wanted to blurt out.

Yes, that's exactly how she found herself here, on the 1st of September, standing on an impossibly existent Platform Nine-And-Three-Quarters, with her attendant standing by a cart carefully stacked with her many suitcases and a pair of Montrier-branded trunks. Nobody around was wearing anything familiar to her. She'd had the entire summer to wrap her head around the fact that magic was apparently real, and yet she'd pathetically failed to do so.

For a moment, she thought she heard a girl yelling about how she was the only one alone on the platform. Though she could very easily just be mishearing things, considering the sheer number of people. As far as she could see, there were a multitude of... what were they called? 'Wizarding Families'? Crowded around the platform as they all hurried to get their children onto the Hogwarts Express. Violetta supposed that she shouldn't waste much more time dilly-dallying, and beckoned her attendant to begin loading her belongings onto the train.

It was almost comical, seeing the amount of items she'd packed compared to her soon-to-be classmates. Not only had she brought the essential items that she bought from Diagon Alley as per the letter requested, but she'd also taken the liberty to bring aboard a multitude of outfits, accessories, shoes, jewelry, self-care products, and even a selection of perfumes. Most of it being Montrier-branded, of course, seeing as how her mother owns the company and gets many of her clothes for free anyhow.

Violetta Greene picked a seating compartment that was still empty, had her attendant load the storage bay above with her belongings, and sent him on his way back home. Hopefully he'd be able to find the exit, considering how difficult it was for them to even find the magically hidden entrance in the first place.

She smoothed her skirt underneath her as she moved to sit down, crossed her legs one over the other, and fished her newly-purchased wand from her purse to inspect it once more as she waited for the train to depart.

Who knows? She might meet someone new to be friends with. Only time would tell, she supposed.

The Beginnings of a Particularly Perplexing Series of Events OPEN TO ALL
Cassandra had always been a character, or however her teachers had described her. It didn't help that she had inherited her father's eccentric "charm" and his abilities. No matter the circumstance, she always seemed to be caught in the middle of trouble. And perhaps that's just what happened with kids like her.

Well then, now it would be different! Here, she was bound to find kids with the exact same experiences as her. As long as she was sorted into a decent house. Honestly, she'd settle for anything other than Slytherin. She probably wasn't brainy enough for Ravenclaw. Maybe she'd be in Gryffindor, like her dad was. Or Hufflepuff, home to those looking to be kind. No matter, as long as she sorted into a house that helped her find and connect with people like her. And that shouldn't be difficult, as that was the whole point of houses.

But her journey would start here, on the train ride there.

During the trip to the station, she had a tiny voice in the back of her head that told her not to get her hopes up, to not get so excited. If she expected too much, she'd be disappointed.

That tiny voice shut up, however, when she got to walk through a wall. Platform 9 3/4 was almost like a dream. Unlike the modern trains on the muggle side, the Hogwarts Express looked like a steam locomotive, with a whistle and everything. After some excited looking around, her parents helped her load her trunk in, and then they all said their goodbyes (they all cried).

Cassie hadn't planned on leaving her parents so early, but it was probably for the best. Now, she could explore the Express and get a seat before it got too crowded. She hauled her bag over her shoulder as she started looking through the compartments. She opened the door to the first one she saw, peeking her head in.

“Hello?”

Her curls were the first thing anyone would notice, as they were dreadfully frizzy. She wore some black denim overalls over a purple sweater, with a few patches sewed in by her mum.

Her gaze locked on to the other girl, and Cassie's expression immediately brightened. "Hi!"

It was probably rude, the way she invited herself in, but she was so excited that she didn't care in that moment. They heard another whistle of the train as she plopped herself down on the seat across, smiling. Her demeanor was that of a small child obviously wanting to talk about something she liked, or some other equally bothersome thing. "Are you a first year?"

00c: Lowk, the structure of this is kinda buns, but I'm not used to a word requirement on rp things so that's probably why

No worries about the structuring! That's nice thing about writing, collaborative or not. It's all about having fun, and you'll find that you'll get better over time. Also, to note; please don't take Violetta's reactions as me-myself-and-I being rude to you! She's still the daughter of a new-money rich family and as such has every insufferable behavior that comes with that. Don't worry, her time at Hogwarts will definitely take care of that, she's got quite a few hard lessons ahead. *insert maniacal villain plotting here*

───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

It didn't take long for Violetta to notice someone opening the door to her compartment without even bothering to knock first.

It took even less time for that someone─a bright-eyed girl with dreadfully frizzy curls and patched-up clothes that were quite possibly older than she was─to invite herself in without giving Violetta so much as a chance to say 'Good morning,' or even a 'How do you do?' before sitting down across from her.

Violetta blinked, stuffing her wand back in her purse, replacing it with a tube of Montrier-branded hand cream and turning her attention to her newfound visitor. "Ah," she began, tucking a loose piece of her hair behind her ear as she flashed a smile, "I suppose you could say that I am, yes!". She popped the cap open and squeezed out a pea-sized dollop onto the palm of her hand, taking great care to make sure it's rubbed in.

"The air is terribly dry here, don't you agree?" she asks, flicking her hands out as if she'd just gotten them wet. Immediately, the scent of honey and orange blossoms fills the air. "Though I might prefer it that way over having my hair become..." she deliberately eyes the other girl's head, "...unkempt, from the humidity."

To anyone else on the outside looking in, it was plain as day that Violetta Greene was a girl who was used to a life of comfort, the skin of her hands lacking even the tiniest callous and the gloss of her hair holding nary a suggestion that it had gone anywhere more than a month without seeing a stylist. One might describe her as being pretentious, seeing as how she seems to enunciate every word she speaks. Another might even say she was vain, considering that it was rare to see her go a day without brushing her hair at least once.

Of course, these were descriptors that Violetta were willfully ignorant to. After all, why would she bother with anyone who thought of her as such? As one of her former classmates often said, jealousy was quite an ailment, and she wished those who were inflicted with it well.

The train blows another whistle as a pair of students in yellow-lined robes run by their compartment, muttering something about a lost book. Violetta paid them no mind, it wasn't her business, after all. Though she certainly looked forward to possibly hearing about it in passing, even Violetta couldn't resist the allure of a good story being passed around a school now and then. Gossip and rumors were natural, she'd found, even at a place that supposedly taught magic.

She only hoped nobody would try to spread any rumors about her again. That was enough trouble for a whole year.

"Oh, but where are my manners?" she feigns surprise at herself. 'Yes, where are our manners, indeed...' she thought, not letting it show an inkling of expression on her face. "Allow me to introduce myself─my name is Violetta Greene, heiress of the Montrier Fashion Company." she leans forward to offer her hand to shake. "A pleasure to make your acquaintance."

Her pearly smile only grew wider. "And... you are?"

"Oh, I see—that's quite, er... intriguing."

so.
i thought the notifications were. going to update. when you posted your reply. it did not. i was unaware that you had to check periodically, (or perhaps this is a problem on my end). so. my response is just a teensy bit late. just wanted to let you know that it isn't you. it's me. ALSO ofc I won't take it personally! Have you seen Cassie? We love us some flawed characters (ps: i figured out the notifs, i will proceed to respond in a timely manner).

Cassie grinned, gratefully taking her hand. Her hands in comparison wasn't rugged, but it definitely wasn't as soft or dainty as Violetta's. The shake was firm as she responded. "I'm Cassie. Cassandra Tarot. The pleasure's all mine."

Her voice was laced with a kind of light-heartedness, something joyous, or perhaps naive. She hadn't yet noticed that the prim and proper look the other girl was upkeeping wasn't as much of an front as she thought it was. And if she recognized the company Violetta mentioned when introducing herself (which she didn't), she made no sign as such.

She is really pretty, Cassie thought. Her hair was perfectly put together, her eyes a soft green that seemed to compliment her skin rather than stand out. It was already apparent that she took good care of herself, and that was something admirable in a person. It was better than herself, at least. Cassandra had considered getting ready that morning, but had decided to tidy herself up when they eventually had to change into their robes. The train would have a mirror somewhere, right? Of course it would, who was she kidding?

She leaned back, resting her bag in her lap. Maybe a spirit of irony looked upon them, pairing such as poised, proper child with someone like her. Perhaps that was just how the universe worked, but that wasn't what was on Cassie's mind. "You're really pretty, you know. Especially your hair. What do you do with it, if you don't mind me asking, of course?" Her voice held a warm, teasing lilt, familiar in a way that was merely instinctual.

"But magic is neither good nor evil. It is a tool, like a knife. Is a knife evil? Only if the wielder is evil."

The Beginnings of a Particularly Perplexing Series of Events OPEN TO ALL
A knock rung out from the open compartment door before a head of silky brown hair popped in. The hair was creased as if it was tied up in a ponytail or braid tightly before being taken out.

"Hi," a high-pitched voice sang in greeting before lowering in pitch slightly. Upon finding space, the rest of the child's body came through clumsily, a slightly uncoordinated mess.

The occupants of the compartment could now see that the girl wore flared jeans with a belt studded with fake diamonds and hoodie that had anime characters on it with words in Japanese. Her skin was tawny, and her eyes were a medium brown. Her earrings were little dangling silver mushrooms. She brought one suitcase and a backpack with her.

"My name is TJ. Can I sit with you guys?" As she spoke, her eyes roamed the countenances of the other two girls, squinting as if she couldn't see them well from a distance. The curly-haired girl looks nice, she thought. Her eyes are so blue. The other girl looks put together so she'll probably ask me to do her homework or something. It was always the girls who look like they had it all together that were concerned with keeping up the appearance of doing good in class, after all. The girls who didn't care enough about school never asked TJ for homework help. Or maybe she's mean. That's the other option for a girl who looks perfect. TJ would be fine if the girl was mean, though. Less mental work in the future.

Waiting for the pair's assent, TJ didn't startle as the train whistle blew again and looked for a place to put her suitcase among the luggage already stored.

ofc ofc! I've never been in a forum lol, so this is new for a lot of people! just as a quick notice, Violetta has owled me saying she's a bit busy rn and might not have time to respond quite yet. if you have questions about what and what not to do, there's a section in the Site Information called Setting Lore and the FAQ that I found has pretty good guides to the world. ty for participating!

Cassie grinned even wider, her attention immediately severing towards the newcomer. "Hi! Come in, there isn't exactly a crowd in here."

Perhaps Cassandra should've taken Violetta's opinion into account when letting yet another person in, but again, her enthusiasm was blinding any rational thought that an eleven year old girl could have. She patted the seat beside her, scooting over slightly. "Are you also a first year? You're muggle-born, aren't you?" She paused, attempting to rephrase her wording. "N-not that it's a bad thing, obviously. Just that I noticed your outfit."

She placed her bag in her lap, smiling at TJ, attempting to pivot the subject. "You have your cloak with you, right? We could all go head to the bathroom together to change before we arrive. Though, that won't be for a while, obviously. What do you think we'll do once we get there?"

It was already quite apparent to the other people in the compartment the kind of person Cassie was. Her rather unkept appearance, and her... energetic personality, she wasn't an extravagant person in the slightest. Perhaps her blatancy had a unique charm to it, but otherwise, she was rather unrefined (at least compared to another person in the room). It was also apparent how the act of "silent observing" wasn't a thing to her. She pointed out everything she saw, talking as much as she could. Whether this was intentional or not was something to be determined by her peers.

"But magic is neither good nor evil. It is a tool, like a knife. Is a knife evil? Only if the wielder is evil."

ok thank you for telling me! i've looked at those sections a bit already, but i'll look more when i have the time.
edit: i also hope you like the color i assigned you! it's the purple from your avatar. but if you don't like it, i can change it back to normal too

TJ entered the compartment at Cassandra's behest and struggled with the weight of her suitcase as the other girl spoke.
"Are you also a first year? You're muggle-born, aren't you?"
She nodded in reply, trying to jump while pushing her suitcase onto the overhead storage, which caused it to bounce off the wall and back into her hands before stabilizing on the shelf. "Oof!"

Cassandra was still asking questions of which only the last one was heard by TJ over the stress from physical exertion.
"What do you think we'll do once we get there?"

"Well, we're going there to learn, aren't we? So there'll be classes and teachers and homework and, um, I imagine that's what we'll do."

After answering, TJ wasn't very sure what to say, so when the silence was filled by Cassandra's constant chatter, she felt relieved that the conversation was flowing smoothly.

However, she felt the need to add some chatter of her own to not fade into the background between the other two like she used to. "So you were asking if I'm...muggle...born," TJ said in a tone which made clear she wasn't overly familiar with the term yet, "that means you're not, right? What's that it like to be a...wizard...born? Is that the term?" She was genuinely curious how life as a magical child would differ from a muggle one.

Sorry for the inactivity! I got caught up in a few things outside of h.io. I'm back, now! Welcome, Taj! Like I mentioned in a previous reducio, please don't take Violetta's quirks to heart! She's got a long journey ahead of her, and right now she's just as pompous as she was back at her old private school. She'll realize she's being a bit rude and start behaving a bit nicer! ...eventually.

Violetta blinked twice, being startled out of her stupor when the train's steam whistle blew a final time, and she felt the car lurch forward as it finally began to move. She'd been utterly transfixed on a woman's beautiful dress─or rather, a witches beautiful robes? She couldn't say for sure─that was made from a flowing light orange fabric that seemed to shimmer in the light. She'd been wearing a shawl that was likely made from the same bolt, fastened closed with a golden brooch that was shaped into what appeared to be a crystalline white hummingbird feeding on an equally sparkling pink blossom of some kind, a flower that Violetta wasn't privy to knowing about.

Either way, she found her ensemble to be a brilliant piece of work. She couldn't quite place who could have possibly designed it─certainly not Montrier, her mother preferred to design more conservative pieces─or whether or not it was created using magic. Though it could have very easily gone either way, she'd taken the time to commit the sight to memory.

Then the train began to move, and that's when she realized that she had a second visitor to her once-peaceful compartment. She turned her head to look at the other girl who had waltzed in─again, without so much as a 'Good morning.'. Honestly, what was it with wizards and their lack of manners?─and quickly had to hold her tongue before she could let out an involuntary 'Oh!'.

Violetta wasn't the kind of person to describe herself as being particularly mean, but someone with her eye certainly couldn't deny a garishly put together outfit when she saw one. She could get behind the flared jeans, perhaps, if they were paired with boots that had a slight platform built into the sole. Or maybe even a pair of closed-toe heels─though obviously she'd seldom find anyone her age that was willing to wear them. Other than her, of course─that complimented the cut of the fabric. She could even go so far as to approve the belt, if one were going for more of an urban look.

But then she saw the hoodie and the earrings.

A hoodie would never, ever do. Not even one that could have been made from the world's most expensive fabric─though she'd likely just call that one a waste─that could have been tailored to someone's exact dimensions. Maybe, just maybe if someone had caught a dreadful case of the common cold and had to step out to the shops for a moment, would she even slightly approve of a hoodie of any kind.

But that was nothing in comparison to her earrings. Even as cheap as they looked, she found them to be a waste of metal. Who in their right mind would create mushroom earrings for anyone other than a toddler playing dress-up, or for a Halloween costume that... required such a thing, for whatever reason?

At least her hair was pretty. That was practically the girl's only saving grace. Even if it had obviously just been let out of a ponytail─or perhaps a braid─she looked like she took good care of her hair, just like Violetta did herself.

Finally, Violetta was able to find the words. "Oh, my apologies. I must have lost track of time, I was simply enraptured by a sight I rarely ever see." she took her hands and flipped her hair away from her shoulders, revealing more of her own dress. A blue-and-white dress that fell down to her knees with short sleeves, an ironed collar, and a sewn-in white cloth belt with a silver 'M' fastened onto it. She supposed she could only trust her own fashion sense around her, lest she find somebody who could match, or even excel hers.

She tried her best not to let anything particularly nasty come out of her mouth. As Mrs. Rosetta─her etiquette teacher─had so graciously taught her, scathing words that were unwelcome for the time would hardly ever do for a truly upstanding lady. So like the truly upstanding lady she was taught to grow up to be, she straightened up, held her shoulders back and jutted her chin up.

"You mentioned that your name is 'T.J.', yes? It's a pleasure to meet you," she held her hand in an offer to shake─and once again, introduced herself, announcement of her heiress status and all─and tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ear. "I do believe I caught snippets of your conversation regarding... er, being 'muggle-born?'" she rests her hands over her lap, holding her white purse close to her hip. "I'm 'muggle-born' as well, though I can hardly tell you exactly what that entails."

Violetta knew well-enough what it meant, at least. A magical child born to non-magical parents. Really, she didn't know the implications of being 'muggle-born'. She even found the term 'muggle' to be strange, in itself. Wizards really were quite strange, she thought, and she supposed she'd only find out more as time went on.

"I do agree that we should change into our robes before we arrive, but I believe we're still quite a-ways from reaching Hogwarts. I still have modifications to make to my own robes, at the very least. Really, the loose look is very quite... last century, and I can't say that I approve."

She reaches into her purse to retrieve her phone─if anyone had told her not to bring it, she'd conveniently forgotten─and made to look at the time.

9:43 AM

Shortly after she looked, however, her phone had shut off and refused to turn back on. "Oh, bother." Sucking her teeth and trying not to roll her eyes─though she failed miserably─she dropped her phone back into her bag. Then, she blinked again. "Oh! I'm sorry, Cassandra. Did you ask me something?" she asks as her hand trailed back over to her hair, idly brushing through it with her fingers.

Outside the compartment, the very same pair of students with yellow-lined robes sped past their door once more. It seems that book is still lost.

"Oh, I see—that's quite, er... intriguing."

She noticed Violetta patting out her clothes, curious at the way she seemed to show off her outfit, but didn't think much of it. "Uhm... shoot, I forgot what I was about to say."

Cassie shrugged, looking at both at them. She was usually one to "go with the flow", or if you were just rude, a ditz. "So you're both muggle-born? That's really cool! My mum's muggle, but my dad's a wizard. The technical term is half-blood, but that's rather crude, don't you think?"

It was immediately clear that she intended to talk some more under the guise of "informing" them about this new world. It was right to assume that she liked talking to people, probably too much. "Hmm... what was it like being raised by a wizard? Well, I'd personally like to say it was pretty cool. I don't think other kids in the neighborhood were reading Tales of Beetle the Bard for bedtime stories."

She glanced down at Violetta's bag, where she had plopped her phone back into her bag, returning her gaze back to her. "Oh, and phones won't work here. Or Hogwarts. Magic messes with the signals or something. Most muggle devices that use a battery or electricity won't work." Cass waved a hand, like this was a normal thing that everyone should know. "Whenever my mom needs to make a call, she has to do it from the other side of the house that my dad is in. And most of our things are charmed to do other things that have a "muggle" counterpart."

"But magic is neither good nor evil. It is a tool, like a knife. Is a knife evil? Only if the wielder is evil."

welcome back, V! don't worry about Violetta's personality, TJ is also a bit harsh sometimes. in my opinion it's a natural consequence of being a preteen haha
also if i'm inactive soon, it's due to my finals irl but i don't think i will be inactive.

TJ sat across from Cassandra and Violetta, crossing her ankles and leaning back. She noted that the chairs weren't overly comfortable nor uncomfortable, and although she did want to pull her legs up to settle in for the journey, she hesitated to do so in front of strangers. Having examined Violetta and learning she was also a muggleborn, TJ didn't find her quite as interesting as Cassandra for now.

"It's a good thing my dad didn't let me bring my Switch, then, huh?" she replied on the topic of tech being seemingly incompatible with magic, grinning. "And my mom's old phone from, like, ten years ago is practically a brick anyway." She pulled out an old Blackberry from her jean pocket, a truly ancient little thing. It looked to even be the first model of the phone from exactly a decade ago in fact. "Useless even with electricity," she snickered, unafraid of being the butt of her own joke.

Then, suddenly struck with another question about the magical world, she gasped, leaning forward. "Wait! Magic kids have different bedtime stories?! That's so interesting, OMG!" She indeed spelled the abbreviation OMG out loud, and her hands flapped around as she spoke excitedly. "What's Beetle about?"
