Usually, during the short breaks between classes, Frederick would walk alongside his friends. They had just enough time to get from one classroom to another, provided they didn’t get lost in the castle. But this afternoon, the boy did something different. He told his small group to go on ahead, saying he’d catch up with them shortly, making up an excuse that he needed to stop by the bathroom before the next lesson.
It was just an excuse, though. As he had passed through the third-floor corridor after leaving Charms class, he had spotted what seemed like the perfect hiding spot. After dismissing his friends, he made his way back there at an unhurried pace: a large silver suit of armor, which to him, a boy of eleven, looked nearly two meters tall, stood right at the corner where the corridor turned to the right. Positioned the way it was, Fred could easily slip behind it, completely hidden from the view of anyone approaching the turn.
He walked past the spot once, glancing sideways at the few students hurrying along the corridor to make sure no one was paying him any attention. He’d have to take the first opportunity to hide and catch the next passerby off guard. And so he did, the moment the corridor fell empty. In his mind, the plan was flawless: hidden behind the armor, he would jump out as soon as someone approached, scare them properly, and then casually head off to his next class. Simple. Perfect.
Quietly tucked between the armor and the wall, Fred waited in silence, biting back the laughter bubbling in his chest at the mischief he was about to pull off. It didn’t take long before he heard footsteps approaching. His heart quickened as he readied himself, muscles tensing in anticipation. As soon as the person came close enough, Fred leapt out from his hiding spot without warning, appearing right in front of them as he shouted, “Boo!”

Olivia was leisurely making her way to her next class, she wasn't particularly looking forward to history of magic, she found it extremely boring for the most part. So she felt it was best to stroll and take her sweet time getting there, she could always say she got lost, which barly happened as she had a good sense of direction.
As she walked she admired the castles architecture and the many portraits that filled the walls, the castle was huge and each day she was discovering more and more without even trying, if she ever got lost she would definitely use it as an opportunity to try and find the hidden passageways the older students seemed to know about. This was one of those times she would have loved to end up exploring the castle by accident but it seemed as though fate intended for her to attend the dreaded lesson or so she thought.
Lost in her thoughts she took turns left and right almost instinctively, however as she went to turn right once more a boy with messy brown hair and bright blue eyes jumped out infront of her causing her to jump back and let out a scream. "You idiot," she said hitting his arm, as her face turned red. People had looked to see what had happened before continuing on with thier day. She couldn't believe he had managed to scare her with such a mudane prank.
She looked at the boy, she instantly recognised him, she saw him causing mischief every now and again, "I'm not that easy to scare Buckley," she said trying to compose herself.

If good coincidences exist in the world, then this moment was certainly one of them. A second before jumping out from behind the armor, Frederick realized who his victim would be: none other than Olivia Cuthburt. A girl in his year, from Hufflepuff, who was known for pulling pranks and causing mischief around the castle. He sprang out of his hiding spot to scare her, and she fell right into his trap, letting out a small shriek as he startled her.
Fred barely felt the light punch Olivia landed on his arm, far too busy laughing at her reaction. He burst into a loud laugh, the kind that made him double over, hands on his knees just to keep from toppling forward. As he tried to catch his breath, he heard her say his name. She attempted to compose herself once she realized who had scared her, but that only made him laugh even more. Straightening up slightly, though still chuckling, he noticed her cheeks were still flushed. “I think your little squeal and that red face say otherwise, Cuthburt,” he teased, using her last name just as she had used his.
With a breath, finally recovering from the fit of laughter, Frederick glanced around and noticed the corridor was emptying again. “Who would’ve thought you’d be the one to fall for it? Could’ve been anyone,” he added lightly, hoping she wouldn’t take it the wrong way. Tilting his head, he gestured behind him toward the suit of armor where he’d been hiding. “Come on, I found the perfect spot to jump out and scare people. Had you ever noticed this corner before?”
For a moment, Buckley seemed to look Olivia up and down, as if sizing something up. Then he turned slightly, glancing at the space behind the armor again, judging it with his eyes, before looking back at her and doing the same. Fred was taller than her, but still lean in that way eleven-year-olds often are, and an idea quickly formed in his mind. “I’ll tell you what, I reckon we’ve got time for one more scare before class,” he said, a spark of excitement lighting up his expression. “What do you say we hide together?”

Olivia stood there thinking for a moment, teaming up with someone who had just scared her? that was not something she did, this would normally result in a prank war of some sort, especially as he was quite pleased with himself and she had fallen victim to one of the most basic pranks known to men.
She thought a little longer as she looked over at the small space in the corner behind the suit of armour. She was trying to size Fredrick up, he had a slim athletic build, "You sure we will fit?" she joked. She was sure they would but them together would be quite tight. It would defintly work she just wanted to tease him a little to test his limits.
A suit of armour wasn't something out of the ordinary for Olivia hence why she didn't pay much attention to it when walking around the castle. Her father had one placed in thier corridor at home which he believed held some ansectrol value, but she didnt care much for the story, she was sure it wasn't true. Judging Fredrick he might think it was the quite awsome though.
"Ok lets prank some poor souls, why not see if we make a good team?" she said with a smirk surpising herself. Finding a pranking buddy was defintly way better then creating a rival even if it was a friendly one. She would show him how it is done, with her help they were bound to get a better reaction.
"We should enchant this someday, that would be halirious," she suggested touching the armoured fingers that were quite cold before she easily slipped behind it. "Ooooooo, I hold the spirt of the fallen," she said in a ghost like manner, giggling a little. "By the way Buckley dont get too comfortable I'll get you back one day," she added making space for him.

After making his offer, Frederick kept his eyes fixed on Olivia, waiting for her answer. She didn’t respond immediately. If it had been possible, Fred would have sworn his eyes were trying to read her thoughts, but all he got in return was Olivia looking right back at him, as though she were sizing him up from head to toe. Before he could start feeling awkward and blurt out some silly joke just to break the silence, Olivia answered with a question of her own. It was clearly rhetorical, her good humor shining through both her tone and the expression on her face.
Relieved by the Hufflepuff’s positive response, Fred broke into a grin and rubbed one hand against the other, a gesture that could only mean one thing: it was time for mischief. “I bet we will,” Frederick shot back, confidently agreeing that they would make a good team of troublemakers. He had never imagined that one day he would actually be teaming up with Olivia to pull pranks. He always thought a competition between them would be more likely. Then again, one didn’t necessarily prevent the other, he concluded privately.
As he squeezed himself into the narrow space between the wall, the suit of armor and Olivia, Frederick laughed openly at her impression. She had put on a little ghostly voice, and it was as convincing as it was funny. “Of course. We can enchant the armor, or we can just use your incredible ability to turn into a ghost,” he replied, still laughing. His laughter gradually faded into a more spaced-out, ironic chuckle as he added, “Ha-ha. I’ll be waiting. Go on, move over a bit.” Fred nudged Olivia’s shoulder lightly with his own before crouching down beside her, making sure he was completely hidden behind the enormous silver suit of armor.
For hiding one child, the space was more than enough. For hiding two, however, it quickly became cramped. Frederick found himself pressed side by side against Olivia just to fit inside the hiding spot while keeping both of them concealed. For a brief moment, he glanced sideways at her and suddenly became aware of just how close they were standing. Probably closer than he had ever been to any girl who wasn’t a relative or a childhood friend. Before the situation could become awkward, he cleared his throat and risked a quick peek around the corner of the armor to check whether their next victim was approaching. “When we hear someone coming, we jump out, right?” he whispered, looking back at Olivia and giving a small nod. The plan was simple. Nothing could possibly go wrong.

Olivia had to move up as much as she could to allow Frederick to fit snugly and for them both to still be hidden. The things she did for a prank, she didn't even know him like that. Although she was glad he had found her amusing and liked her idea, they could even be friends or future pranking partners.
But then he decided to do something risky, he peaked around the corner. Olivia found herself quickly reaching forward as she grabbed his robes and pulled him back. "Key word hear someone, don't ruin the prank," she warned. "How did you even manage prank me?" She whispered in disbelief, she was now pretty sure she was the better prankster.
A few minutes of silence passed, she hated silence it gave her mind a chances to wonder. She instead listened for footsteps the best she could afterall talking would only ruin thier chances of sucess. She just couldn't help herself and found herself woundering what fun is a prank if there is no fun involved. Hence the suggestion that followed, "Wanna make a bet?" She asked, "5 galleons we scare a professor," she guessed a smirk plastered on her face as she fully faced Frederick, hoping he would entertain her antics. She patiently waited for his response, well more like excitedly.
It wasn't long until they heard faint footsteps slowly approching, each step louder then the other getting her adrenaline pumping. She lightly nudged Frederick as she prepared to jump out at the right time. She looked over at him with a giddy smile as she pictured the shocked face of thier soon to be victim. "Three, two one," she counted down softly praying ther timing would be perfect.

When Frederick risked peeking through the narrow gap between the suit of armor and the wall, fortunately no one was coming. But even if someone had been walking straight toward their trap, Olivia made sure Fred wouldn’t ruin everything. She quickly grabbed the front of his robes and pulled him back until he was completely hidden once again. The girl scolded him in a hushed whisper, quiet enough that only he could hear. “Relax, no one would've seen me,” he insisted, despite not being entirely sure himself, refusing to concede to the obvious point behind her rhetorical question.
The seconds dragged on slowly, unlike Buckley’s heartbeat, which hammered excitedly against his chest. The anticipation of pulling off another prank filled him with adrenaline. To Fred, that nervous excitement was part of the fun. He found himself wondering who their next victim would be. Olivia seemed to be thinking along the same lines when she suggested placing a bet. “A professor?” he echoed, letting out an amused snort. “You want to get us into trouble?” he added, shaking his head, though the grin on his face made it obvious he wasn't being serious. “I bet it'll just be another student. We'll get away with it just fine.” Fred sounded completely convinced, as though a well-executed prank had never once led anyone to detention.
The next moment happened in a flash. Footsteps echoed through the corridor, bouncing off the stone walls and rising toward the high ceiling. Frederick's heart leapt into his throat again as he returned Olivia's signal, silently letting her know he was ready. At the end of her countdown, he sprang out from behind the armor, drawing a deep breath to unleash the most terrifying boo he could manage. But as he jumped out alongside Olivia, the enormous silver suit of armor seemed to leap with them. Before he could even focus on the unsuspecting victim, the deafening crash of metal slamming against the stone floor stole every ounce of attention from the prank.
Somehow, and Fred had absolutely no idea how or whose fault it had been, the armor had been knocked over as they emerged from their hiding place. The tremendous clang of metal against cold stone echoed through the corridor, loud enough that it had surely carried into several neighboring hallways and classrooms throughout the castle. There they stood: a suit of armor reduced to a scattered heap of silver-plated pieces, an older Gryffindor girl who looked to be around thirteen years old, Olivia... and a completely frozen Frederick. His eyes darted from the wrecked armor, to Olivia, then to the bewildered girl, before settling once more on the spectacular mess they had created.
Fate, it seemed, had decided to play a prank of its own. Even the simplest plans could go spectacularly wrong. From somewhere farther down the corridor came the unmistakable sound of more footsteps, growing louder by the second. Whoever they belonged to, they were all converging on the same place, the third-floor corridor, where the unexpected commotion had just unfolded.
