Errand Gifts of Kindness in Enchanted Ramadan

After her afternoon lessons, Cassie heads directly to the Great Hall. She has heard that students are encouraged to make gifts of Kindness in the Enchanted month of Ramadan, they are asked to send gifts to a professor, a friend and a house elf.

Once she arrives at the great hall, she can see that there are two tables, one with ready-made, lovely gifts and another with some tools and things for them to make gifts with. In Cassie's point of view, a hand-made gift, if made with time and effort, is worthless, and it shows much more gratitude and appreciation than a pre-made one. Thus, she decides to make gifts herself.

Cassie is a part-goblin, which means that she has a special talent in metal-crafting. Therefore, she decides to make gifts that shows her special metal-crafting skill. She looks at the material provided and starts to design a gift for one of the professors. 'Who shall I send it to?' she murmurs. One name pops up in her mind immediately-- professor @Lesmana Asmaralaya. The potions professor has provided much help to her in her darkest times earlier this school year, when she was lost in the burdens of studies and did not know what to do. He gave her some precious advice and her studies became better ever since.

She is very grateful for his help, but since she was too busy with spring ball things recently, she seldom remembers to put thanking the professor into her schedule. This activity seems to be the perfect opportunity for her to make some gifts and thank the professor.

She quickly has a plan of what to make. Since she is sending the gift to a potions professor, she is going to make some potion models that can be put on desks as decorations. She gathers some small glass vials in different shapes. She adds some ink in different colours into the vials, sprinkles some glitters and things to make them look like real potions. After making each, she wipes her hands, which are now covered with ink in different colours. She seals them with small corks. She then adds a small metal chain to each of them, so they can be hung on bags etc. Among them, there is one bigger and more beautiful than the rest. Cassie adds gold sprinkles to it, and attaches a metal card saying 'Felix Felicis' she wishes the professor good luck all the time.

After carefully wrapping the small vials, she turns to make the second gift for a friend. She thinks of @Zephyr Deakin, the co-head of Cassie's Hogwarts Volunteer Club. He has helped her a lot with club issues so she decides to thank him. She knows that he has been on the broomracing team for a while, so she decides to carve a miniature of a broom out of wood. She follows the design of the firebolt, one of the best brooms, which she has seen in books. The broom isn't big, so it doesn't take her much time to finish it. She then applies brown paint for the wood part to add some details on the twigs, and gold paint to make the broom more beautiful. She adjusts it several times so that it looks like a real one, except that it's small. She then makes a wood base for it, and attaches a metal card on the base, saying 'to Zephyr Deakin, our future's best broomracer.' Though the broom is only the size of a palm, Cassie spends over an hour on it.

She stands up and takes a walk for a rest until she continues to make the gift for a house elf. This time, she draws colourful patterns on a piece of paper, folds it into a paper box, and puts candies of all kinds inside. She then writes a card to thank them for their everyday hard work.

Finally, all three gifts are done. Now it's time to send them out!

That afternoon, as Diana walked into the Great Hall, it once again felt different. Diana wondered if each time she walks into the Great Hall it'd feel different. Or maybe today it's because another event is happening? Anything could be possible, and Diana wanted to know what it was this time. As she fully walked into the Great Hall, she noticed that it wasn't louder, nor was it busier, it was just warmer. When she was near the entrance, the young Ravenclaw paused, her eyes drifting over the tables filled with ribbons, parchment, and small trinkets. Lantern light reflected softly off everything, making even the simplest objects seem a little brighter. People moved around her, focused quietly on what they were making. For a moment, she stayed still, just watching, then after a quiet breath, she stepped forward. Diana approached the crafting tables slowly, her fingers brushing the edge of the wood as she looked over the materials. She didn’t reach for anything right away. Two gifts, she was going to make two gifts. But who to send them to was the real question. Her gaze settled on a stack of parchment, and after a second, she picked one up. She knew exactly who she was going to give her first gift to.
_______________________________________________________

Gift One: House-Elf - 301 words

She started with the house-elf gift because it felt important. The elves had a lot of tasks that they do every single day at the castle, and she wanted to create something meaningful that would show how much she appreciates they're hard work. They make the delicious food every single day and probably do a lot of more tasks besides cooking. Diana felt that it was nice that this event was here, so then she could create a gift for the house-elves.

Diana sat down and carefully folded the parchment, adjusting the edges until they aligned neatly. It took a few tries, her movements slow and precise, but she didn’t mind. Eventually, the parchment took it's shape, and soon, a bookmark could be seen. She turned it over in her hands, considering it, before reaching for a pen. She decided to decorate first, and soon, small, uneven stars lined the edges, scattered across the surface. They weren’t perfectly spaced, but they felt gentle. Intentional almost. She wasn't that good at art, but the thought that was put into the gift counts, right? Once she was done decorating, she flipped her bookmark over. Her hand paused for just a moment before she began to write. "Thank you for everything you do. Even when no one sees it." Her handwriting was as neat as it could possibly be. She read it over once, her expression softening slightly. It felt right, and she hoped the elves appreciated it, even thought it was small. She threaded a thin ribbon through the top and tied it carefully before standing and walking toward the designated table. A few other gifts had already been placed there, each one different in its own way. Diana then gently set hers down before she walked back over to the crafts table.
_______________________________________________________

Gift Two: Friend - 377 words

The second gift was harder, because she needed to figure out who to give the gift to. Unless she decided to give it to multiple people. In that case, she'd need to choose wisely. Diana then began to think, who did she consider her friends? A few names popped into her mind; her roommate, Olivia Evans and Angel Dayes, the muggle-born witch she met on the Hogwarts Express. Diana didn't know Angel that well to actually give her a gift, so Diana decided to go with Olivia, since they have been sharing a dorm together and have been getting to know each other, even if it's a little by day. As she decided on Olivia, the memory came back easily—the quiet conversation, the shared tiredness, the way nothing had felt rushed or forced. It had just…been.

When she was 100% sure, Diana reached for a piece of soft lavender parchment. She didn't know Olivia's favorite color, but despite that, she folded the parchment into a small card, smoothing the edges carefully before opening it again. The blank space inside made her hesitate. For a moment, she almost stopped, wondering if she should send a gift to Angel instead. But then she picked up a pen and in the same handwriting as the house-elf gift, she wrote "I'm glad we talked that night, and every night after that. The first night felt easy. And every night after that felt easier. I hope we can continue to talk. And you don't have to rush anything. I'm glad you're my roommate." Diana stared at the words for a moment, then closed the card before she could change them. She tied a thin ribbon around it, slightly uneven but secure. Holding it in both hands, she hesitated. Giving it directly felt like too much. However, keeping it didn't feel right either. So, instead of deciding on one of them, she chose something in-between. Diana moved quietly through the hall, her steps light as she searched for a place she knew Olivia would pass by. Somewhere noticeable—but not obvious. When she found it, she placed the card down carefully. It wasn't hidden, instead it was just waiting. She stepped back, her eyes lingering on it for a moment before she turned away.
_______________________________________________________

Now, with both gifts finished, Diana drifted back toward the edge of the hall. The lanterns still glowed softly, their light steady and warm. Around her, people continued working on their gifts and exchanging them—but it all felt quieter now, like the moment had settled. Diana folded her hands loosely in front of her, her gaze moving across the room. She didn’t need to be at the center of it. Being part of it—quietly, in her own way—was enough. And this time, she didn’t second-guess that feeling. But, she hoped that the house-elves and Olivia liked the gift and appreciated the thought she had put inside of it, even if it was small.

After finishing with the house elf's gift, Marcella moved on to make a gift for one of her friends. Marcella didn't even spend a minute thinking about which friend. Because there's only one person whom Marcella loves and adores with all her heart. It's her one and only best friend, Ava Lynn. Marcella had already purchased a book for Ava when she had gone to visit her parents a few months ago. But along with that, Marcella wanted to gift so many more for the person who made her life brighter. She picked an Altoid box and pasted vintage pink decor papers on the bg.

Marcella packed the book she had bought neatly and kept bookmarks, sticky tabs, highlighters, stickers, candy and many fun delights in their folds. Marcella quickly grabbed a fresh sheet of paper from her drawing pad and began to draw Ava and her together. She sketched the picture they took when Marcella had gone to visit Ava at her house. Marcella was happy that the drawing had turned 0ut well. She placed the drawing in a handmade envelope and, along with that, wrote a letter. She drew a whale on top her handmade brown envelope. She quickly wrapped up all her gift and went to deliver.
Dearest Ava,
I hope you like what I have gotten you. AND HEARTSTOPPER, GIRLL!! You better binge-read with me :D And thank you for being the best twin and best friend ever XD

Now the only gift Marcella had left to do was for an adult. And while doing so, she faced a dilemma. Who would she make the gift for? She loved potions, and despite not having talked or interacted with her potions professor, she respected him so much. And the other option was for her house's head.

Marcella doodled on a piece of parchment as she waited for the light bulb in her mind to switch on. She glanced over to Ava, who seemed to be very busy doing her gift. And suddenly the idea hit her. Marcella bit her tongue as she was about to scream "Eureka!" She giggled and got to work. She took a brown piece of parchment and doodled a potion drawing on the envelope's cover. She filled it with some sweets, a new peacock feather quill, and a heartfelt handwritten letter. She drew a smiley face on the corner.
Dearest Professor Asmaralaya,
Thank you for all that you have done for us. You've always thought of us and took measures to make us learn potions without doubts. I hope you have a great day ahead of you, and I hope you like my gifts, too.

With Love and all,
Marcella di Angelo

OOC Notes: Apologies for the delay, I just came back from vacation. Let's finish this in 2-3 posts?
Zephyr never knew Eid the way some of the other students do. It was something he only ever understood in stories from people he met, or from some of his friends in the muggle world. And while attending the Olympics competition in Russia, he was given an in depth analysis of his feelings and thoughts. As much as he hated dealing with his thoughts on that level, he was forced to do it. It was uncomfortable at first but he found solace in it because he was required to face his worries and forgive himself. Thinking of all the things he accomplished for this EID, he was proud that he was able to do all activities with an open mind and a better state of heart.

When Hogwarts announced the continuation of the event, he didn't even think and joined. It had become important to him in a way he couldn’t fully explain. When he arrived at the venue of the activity, he somehow expected to see Harumi because it was her who shared majority of those activities while in Russia. They even discussed briefly that it would be nice to apply or do this at Hogwarts, too. He glanced around the Great Hall as he entered, expecting to see her but she's not. It would have been nice to do this together. But since they didn't promise any of that, he just shrugged and let it be. "I’m on my own then...” Seeing the tables full of supplies was an understatement.

The space was transformed completely with all the possible options you can think of, from parchment, ribbons, ink, cloths, even ready-made gifts organized properly. Not only that, but there were also sweets, pastries and small wrapped treats. “Woah...That’s a lot.” He's supposed to prepare three gifts, for an elf, for a friend and for a staff. Simple in theory but not so much in execution. He thought about his gift for a friend first, it didn't feel right to just give a gift to one friend. He's got a lot of friends by now, so maybe he would give them all a gift. It's not rocket science for this one, he went to check the arts and craft section. It's more personal to him when it comes to friends so he would do it himself, the way he's good at. Painting. Again, something simple but personal, for all of them. He picked up a set of brushes, a palette of paints, and thick parchment for painting. He turned one sheet between his fingers to confirm the texture so it could hold pigment without warping badly. Once he got all materials, he looked around to find a place to seat and start his mission.

Seeing an available space across a guy (Roland), he smiled at him in greeting. "Hi, mind if I join you?" The boy was currently busy writing something. "What are you preparing? If you don't mind me asking?" He was already putting all the materials on the table. "You think they would mind if I give gifts to more than one person? I feel it's unfair if I only give to one, I have a lot of friends." Getting himself a pair of scissors, he cut the thick parchment into several rectangular shapes, a decent size for a bookmark, and sketched the scene he wanted to paint. It was mostly the horizon in different colors. Who wouldn't like the view of the skies, especially if they're adorned with the moon? Once he's done with the sketch, he started painting them slowly.

Roland stared at the kits he prepared for the castle's indentured house elves, hovering dangerously on the precicipe of actual tears. A quiet chord within him struck a note of gratitude for the Hogwarts staff insisted on organising these relentlessly decorating events - even if the young lion fancied himself an 'mental labourer' who found the public display of manual craftsmanship decidedly boring. Yet he understood that a noble intention could weave a thread of grace through the simplest of earthly acts. Better still, this entire spectacle was mounted for Eid - a fact established a psychological bridge that helped him to feel more close to Bosnians, the geopolitical cousins stationed just south of his paternal bloodline's origin point and spoke the same language. Tragically, and in direct violation of his personal wishes, Roland was born on this grey island called Britain, where the rain is a mourning presence. And the unfortunate result was a constitution vastly more British that could possibly stomach. Roland was pretty determined to spend his short life, therefore, grasping at any tether that might anchor him to the Slavic or the French. He chased these aesthetic variables with the manic enthusiasm of a Wall Street speculator pouring funds into a guaranteed hot stock tip. Voilà and ajde, heaven help him.

Now it was time to consider his friends and the roster was significantly insignificant. Truth be told, he had not yet exactly mastered the art of networking with the effortless charisma of a certain Nazarene carpenter. A twelve-man loyalist cell, complete with the obligatory Judas, was not an achievement he had unlocked on his Steam account in this simulation game usually referred as life. Still, one must remain optimistic, for the boy still had a twenty-one year left to meet that particular deadline. That was, of course, assuming the simulation did not crash and flash a massive 'WASTED' overlay accross his visual cortex before he reached the tender age of three-and-thirty.

He was just about to marshall his thoughts for a new present when a voice slightly shoke his concentration. It being a weekday, the students wore at least one item including the marker of their houses, and this boy was transmitting Hufflepuff yellow. This brightened Roland's mood a good deal. "Hi," he echoed the boy, dragging himself sideways to create an even wider vacancy. "I would never turn away the company of a badger. You're the second best." Gesturing vaguely at this project, "Oh, it's nothing earth-shattering," he replied, shoving his little hand-written note into the boy's line of sight. "It's for the house elves. A sewing kit. To mend their rips and tears. Assuming they are permitted to, of course." A knot of anger tightened his brow. "Did you know that they didn't receive a single quid for their labour? Appalling. We should really storm the Ministry. This is now my sole motivation to learn all those jinxes and hexes in the Charms class." He glanced about with a sudden paranoia to see if anyone around looked tedious enough to police such thoughts, before letting his shoulders fall in a dismissive shrug.

"I highly doubt," he continued, "it's possible to have 'a lot of' friends. I am, however, a hundred percent positive that one can possess far too many acquaintances." A soft smile gently touched his lips. "Regardless. I'm sure no one will mind. There's no rule against excessive generosity, right? We're not living in a barrack, after all!" (The plight of the house-elves had already activated the Marin boy's 'protest' mood.)

And thus, the duo, initiated a parallel gift-making session. Roland threw together a spectacularly basic card, gluing down the fragments of coloured paper chosen only for how they caught the light. On the reverse, he hastily scribbled: "Not to a specific friend, but to friendship itself." He intended to dump it anonymously into the communal pile. Running an appraisal on the other boy's output, his mouth conterted into an expression of baseline respect. "They look quite beautiful," he condeded. He reached out his right hand first, then quickly pulled it back (rest assured, dear reader, Roland was still pretty sane). "Ah, I should've offered the hand without the glue," he sighed, thrusting his left hand this time. "Roland Domagoj Marin, Gryffindor, obviously," he introduced himself, "I play no sports, have no badge of authority, and I contribute nothing to the school magazine. I am simply the honorary voice of the idle." He fired off an amicable wink at the Hufflepuff.

Zephyr was pleased that the other boy didn't mind him joining. If he was surprised by how quickly he was welcomed in, he didn't react nor did he point it out. He just thought the boy was nice enough to accommodate another person, after all this is a school wide activity. He would have done the same had their role been reversed. His reaction pulled an amused chuckle out of him. Second best? He would take that as a compliment since the tone didn't feel unfriendly. He was mostly teasing him. “Second best is still good...” He told him as he set his brushes and cut parchment pieces in front of him. “I will gladly accept it.” He gave his little creation a curious glance whilst he explained what it was all about. It's for the house elves and that it's a sewing kit. "That's a very thoughtful gesture, properly thought out gift." His next words buffered in his head for a bit before he realized what he meant by it. “No...wait, really? They don’t get paid?” He frowned at the knowledge. Muggle world, wizarding world, there's no difference. There will always be injustice in their system. "That doesn't sound right to me.” He had seen the house elves before, always working, but he never really stopped to think about what's really happening in the backend. “I thought they worked here like staff. Didn’t realise it was like that.” He could tell the boy's frustration and the talk of storming the Ministry and learning jinxes with a purpose caused him to glance around, worried that someone would overhear, but no one seemed to care. There was a part of him that found the intensity a bit much but what does he know? "Storming the Ministry might be a bit much but after I learned from you today, I get why you’re mad.” He looked back at the sewing kit. “At least this helps, even if it's just a small part.” There was hesitation in his actions when he picked up one of his painted bookmarks, “Now I have to be more thoughtful of my gifts for them too.”

“That's quite a good argument I might say but...” He flicked his index finger in front of him, "I can assure you, I have a solid group that I care here. Plus I also have my childhood best friend here with me." He was lucky in the friendship department, bonus, they are all enjoying the activities inside and outside of school...together. What more can he ask for? But... he also knew what the other boy meant. "I just don’t like the idea of leaving people out, especially when I can do something about it.” He was not sure if it's considered a positive or negative trait of his but why overthink when it's just to give gifts anyway. It's manageable enough. His relief was visible on his face when he was assured no one would mind. "That's true, I don’t think generosity gets us in trouble, at least I hope not.” He went back to painting and brushing soft streaks of orange and blue across the parchment. The colors blended into a nice color of horizon. The two managed to work in sync with him occasionally watching the boy work fast. He was surprised by the compliment thrown his way, but he smiled nevertheless. “Thanks, I try to keep them simple.” He extended his hand to him as he introduced himself, he also did the same only for the guy to pull his hand back to offer the hand without the glue. A chuckle came out of him as the other hand was offered so he reached his other hand as well, "That might help...” and shook his offered hand in amusement. The introduction alone earned a smile from him. “Zephyr Deakin. Hufflepuff obviously. Painting is my thing.” He let go of Roland’s hand and checked his finished work. "Well, since we're talking about house elves, let me just get the stuff I want to get for them too. Give me a second." Moving back toward the supply tables, he checked his options with thoughtfulness not just what would look nice, but what's useful. He picked up a several cookies from the arranged sweets and then grabbed a small wooden basket, one clean brown paper, and a yellow ribbon. When he returned to the table, "I'm back, I'll go for the safest choice, food!" he sat back down and started assembling everything. He put the brown paper inside first then the cookies, then tied the yellow ribbon around the handle. It was not complicated. He reached for a small piece of paper and tapped the edge of the table as he thought. After a minute or so, he wrote:

“Thank you for everything that you do for us… I appreciate it a lot.

-- Zephyr”

He reread it for a moment after finishing, and nodded in contentment. He placed the card with the wrapped cookies. "Not as practical as yours, but I meant what I said.”

Roland was properly glad that the other boy took no serious offence at his 'second best' remark. Hogwarts, as far as he has deduced so far (and precisely as much as he could be bothered to care) utterly infested with people begging to be offended. It was a relief that the newcomer wasn't running that hight-friction software. As the other lad took his seat, Roland -naturally- subjected him to a measuring look. Well, he was fair to the eye. (There was still several tragically confusing years ahead of him to fully comprehend why he possessed such a keen interest in the aesthetic merits of the bone structure of other boys). The moment he realised that this naïve (he had no clue, of course, but that's the stereotype, right?) badger had been entirely oblivious to the house elves' unpaid enslavement until Roland mentioned it, a sharp, almost chemical spike of adrenaline hit Roland's bloodstream. Yes, propaganda! The great injustice of Professor Iwasaki's trial had been a storm far too vast for a boy his size, thus, he had been relegated to the role of background supporter. But this? This was a raw opportunity to weaponise. "Yeah, they're not given a single quid," he said, heavily underscoring the final words. "That doesn't sound right to any sane person," he continued. "Save, perhaps, the four founders...." Tossing his crafting supplies aside pensively, he turned his attention the boy. "Someone should write down the truth, to show they were not the pure gods we're taught to worship. Don't you think? Lord, even your Helga must've nodded her head to this unjustice!" He stared into the middle distance, "Tsk, tsk, tsk," he said, "It stains her memory."

But the wind was drawn from the sails the moment he was forced to face the reality that this boy found the idea of storming the Ministry 'a bit much'. Meh. Yet another moderate fence-sitter. Although, factually speaking, Roland didn't have the guts to perform that kind of grandiose action either (do not be fooled by the lion of Gryffindor on his breast). And to put it bluntly, our dear boy suffered from a chronic case of verbal diarrhoea. He was a creature who complained rather than he moved, running the verbal subroutine of saying he was going to do something tricked his dopamine reactors into believing the task was already completed. "Well, work easily, then," he said, his voice softened to a warmth, attempting to smother his energy. "I'm sure the house elves will love our presents. We're making their misery more tolerable, after all. And not offering them a real solution."

For the remainder of their little chat, the Marin boy couldn't deny the quiet warmth taking root within him toward his newfound companion. Amiability is a charming enough virtue on its own, but to bind that with fierce loyalty made it a thing of rare gravity. The first was a soufflé served naked, and the latter was a soufflé gloriously cowered with ice cream - if we must retort to such a diabetic metaphor at this point in the narrative. "Well, I'm impressed," he confessed,a breathy chuckle breaking from the cage of small limbs. "It sounds like someone from your circle of friends willl have their back covered. Nice." He had not the slightest clue why he was being so candid, a bright energy moving in his blood, as though he had eaten so much bitter chocolate. "And a childhood friend? Gosh, what I wouldn't sacrifice to have Nate here with me. But he didn't turn out to be a mudblood like myself, he remained perfectly Muggle." He performed a careless shrug. "Milk it for all it's worth, mate."

When their hands finally met and the boy's name was formally unveiled, Roland's fascination with this new acquaintance was cemented. "Zephyr?" he echoed, tasting its shape. "The god of the west wind? The son of Eos? Alias Favonius?" Well, that certainly gave the game away regarding his parents. The Deakins were evidently a cultured family. "I didn't know when I woke up that I'd be sitting next to a deity," Roland teased, his voice dripping with faux-awe. When Zephyr terminated the crafting process for the house-elf care package, declaring that he meant every word he penned, "That's the only thing truly matters," Roland commented. "Now it's time for me to prepare yet another gift, this time for our staff. I believe I'll make something for Professor Kāne. I am enjoying Transfiguration, and he really give a damn about us."

But the wellspring of his creativity had run dry. Terribly dry. Moving his pen accross the blank expanse of paper, he produced a spectacularly stick-figure portrait, attempting to catch some crude echo of the Professor Kāne's shape. As the resemblance was hardly perceptible to the eye, he drew an arrow, naming the figure: "This is you, Professor Kāne." Right next to it, he scratched out another figure, roughly a fifth of the first one's size, tagged with yet another supplementary arrow: "And this is me (Roland)." He hastily adorned the margins with a flurry of hearts. At the base, he wrote: "THE BEST PROFESSOR." Then, in the bottom right corner, he executed his signature - it was a highly calibrated piece of calligraphy, considering his age, that completely destabilised the primitive aesthetic the core drawing. "OK, I believe my offerings are complete," he murmured to Zephyr. "C'mon!", he crossed his arms across his chest, "I'll wait for you, and I'll be a burden to your peace until we leave here."

OOC Notes: End, thank you! ^^ Also, the mention has approval from the HOH.
Zephyr's expression was one of curiosity as Roland spoke, the intensity in the other boy’s tone was hard to miss. It was a strong opinion some students at Hogwarts expressed when they were passionate about a topic, and he had already heard about different topics from different students. The more Roland talked, the more he was convinced that he was trying to turn that passion into something he wanted him to agree on, something bigger than just injustice. In the Muggle world, people talked about unfair work too. His parents mentioned jobs where people were underpaid or treated badly so the idea was not completely new to him. But house-elves was not something he was familiar about and he only ever been in the wizarding world for a short time compared to most students here. Because of this, his thoughts weren’t fully formed yet. He was stuck between it being wrong and he doesn't know enough to judge it properly. Roland talked about writing the truth and questioning the founders, "Saying people in the past were not perfect is fair, no one is perfect, possibly not even founders of schools. Though I will be honest with you, I'm not sure I know enough about them to say that strongly, or to say Helga Hufflepuff would have agreed or disagreed with something like this.” The boy certainly was building certainty from very little information or maybe he really know them a lot compared to them. He's not really against questioning things, because that just mean there's still room for improvement, but he didn’t like it when it turned into big conclusions. It reminded him of arguments in the muggle world where people would take one fact and turn it into a whole belief system without checking anything else. Social media is prime example of that. “I didn’t even know house-elves were not paid until you said it. I don’t think I’m in a position to rewrite history or judge it properly yet. But thank you for letting me know, that's something to ponder about.”

He talked about helping but not fixing the real problem, that part, he felt slightly uncomfortable. “It won't solve the main issue, I know. But at least I'd like to use this opportunity to show my appreciation for them.” He looked at the basket he was working on, “I’m half-blood, I grew up with two explanations for everything. Muggle and wizard and they always don't match.” Wizarding society has its own rules and traditions, and not everything works the same way. It would take some time for him to understand enough to react more strongly about this issue but he did see the injustice of it. "I hope they actually get to eat these cookies and not just clean them up after us.”

"Well, it's actually simple for me, if I can do something small that helps, then I should.” He regarded the guy, "You know we can be friends to." Offering him a genuine smile. He'd been seeing him around but they'd never really interacted until now. Internally, he was still stuck thinking about house-elves. It's one of those topics where students around him already had strong opinions, but he was still trying to build his from scratch. Half-blood life made that harder for him, he was never fully belonged to either side, so he tended to slow down and observe first. When Roland mentioned his friend Nate, "Your childhood friend too? And what's a mudblood?" People use different labels for different things. "I understand missing a friend, I have a few before Hogwarts too. Although...." grinning at him as if not affected at all, "I don't think I'll milk it, they're someone you deal with, not something you use.”

He was surprised that Roland knew the meaning of his name. "I'd say I'm impressed, you know your mythology." And chuckled when he was called the son of deity. "My parents just liked the name.” People sometimes reacted to his name like that especially after learning what it means. He was called King by one of his friends too and he never knew how to respond. He glanced at Roland’s work for Professor Kāne. He was making a gift for the professor because he liked Transfiguration. His expression slowly turned curious to amusement in one hot minute as the stick figures were revealed. He was not really a judgmental person, but he was unsure how to react. It was clearly not meant to be a serious art. He chuckled before he can stop himself. "That's cute though, I hope Professor will like it." There's definitely no in-between. “You don’t have to wait like that, you can tell me about yourself you know while I finish a couple of small things.” He still has to finish his gift for the staff. "Hang on, give me a minute." He was already satisfied with what he had done. The gifts for his friends were simple but it showed his personality, the house-elf basket was done and now...for the staff gift, he was still undecided.

Seeing a couple of bottles and herbs prepared, he went in that direction, already having an idea what to do with them. His eyes swept across the herbs section. Lavender was the first one he picked which he smelled, it always has a nice scent. Next was chamomile which reminded him of home and definitely his favorite, and lastly, he added peppermint, mostly because he had seen it used in teas before and liked the idea of something refreshing to help clear the mind. He then picked up a few thin glass tubes next. They were small, simple, with cork tops. Perfect for loose herb blends. He turned one in his hand, checking it carefully before placing it into his basket. A personal tea blend wasn’t a common gift, but it was also something he grew up doing on their farm. He added a small strip of parchment for labels, and some twine to wrap them. "I'm back, I'm going to give this to our Head of House." The lady helped him in many ways so it's his turn to give thanks. The idea of a tea tube just came to him randomly without much planning. It's not a grand gift but he was not aiming for that anyway, just something thoughtful. The professor could use them as she deem fit. "Okay, let's do this!"

It was simple, he just mix everything in the tube with just a small amount of peppermint after that. He repeated the process one tube at a time. It was not a complicated work. Once the tubes were filled, he picked up the parchment strips and wrote their labels. He also wrote a simple Thank you note for everything she's done for him and the Hufflepuff house. Then he took the twine and wrapped it around the neck of each tube, tied it into secure knots just enough to hold the label in place. "Done! What do you think?" He exhaled loudly as if relieved he's finally done. Done with everything, he gathered them together, now ready to be given.

Great Hall, Hogwarts
Word Count: 962
Ellaine had never given gifts before.

Or maybe she had, yes, but it hadn’t been quite of her own volition. This was diffferent.

Ellaine sat in one of the tables of the Great Hall, looking over the assortment of arts and crafts supplies laid out over the middle. Parchments, coloured papers, origami, ribbons, beads. glues, scissors – virtually anything to make a custom gift. Carefully, Ellaine reached into her satchel and pulled out the trinkets she’d pilfered from her room.
gift for a house elf – 238 words
The first one was for the house elves. She took out the pieces of patterned fabric she‘d originally brought from home. They were the leftovers from when her mum had tried out quilting, which she’d taken to Hogwarts, intending to find a use for, but she felt the elves would be more delighted than her at sewing. Perhaps to make hats or handkerchiefs, and whatnot.

Humming thoughtully, Ellaine rolled up the fabrics and stacked them in a neat row. She pulled closer to her one of the small lanterns she’d snatched from one of the other tables, eyeing its pretty, yet simple design. Looking between the two, she moved to grab one of the thicker coloured papers – cardstock, or something like that – and set about making a small gift bag out of them. In went the small lantern, the rolled-up fabrics, as well as a small jar of origami lucky stars, made in the colours of the Hogwarts Houses. Pausing for a long while, she stared at the contents inside, before inching off towards the other tables in search for something… specifically, a sewing kit.

Her face adorned a victorious smile as she closed her hands around a sewing kit she located after her search between the tables. Odd that it was there at all, really, but at least whoever in charge was thoughtful enough to think that someone might want to gift a sewing kit.
gift for a friend – 206 words
She left it neat and simple, moving on for her next gift. A friend, this time. Almost too easily, her mind sank back to that first day of Hogwarts. Ellaine been early, reading in one of the compartments in silence, waiting for the train to start. She had knocked on the door, and came in with a hesitant smile.

Sure, they rarely met, but they still kept correspondence, and Ellaine wanted to thank her for being her first friend at Hogwarts.

With that thought in mind, she pulled out the folded origami figures as well as the keychain from her satchel. An owl, a black panther, a red fox, and a (green, of course) snake. Shaking her head to herself, Ellaine packed these into a small box similarly fashioned out of the coloured papers, and added a few of the trinkets from the ready-made goods area, namely: a quiant bookmark, sweets, a few candies, as well as a stray scented candle she noticed while roaming the tables. Somehow, she managed to fit in the admittedly small jar of lucky stars.

Ellaine tied a ribbon around the box, ending it with a simple bow, before scribbling a small note with nothing more than her words of gratitude.
gift for a professor – 246 words
The last one, then, was the gift for the professor. After much thought, Ellaine had decided on giving it to her Head of House, Professor Alarie. Though Ellaine had never personally talked to her before, she wanted to thank her nevertheless for existing. She’d prepared it beforehand – last evening, really, when she’d first heard of the gift-giving event from one of her Housemates. She’d been staring at the ceiling of her room, fussing over what to make, before she thought of the handful of crochet flower coasters she had at home, and of the yarns she had packed inside her trunk.

Minutes went by, where she hemmed and hawed over the possible colour combinations as well as a moment to refresh her memory, before settling on a sunflower-ish look as its base and green as its basket. She didn’t keep track of time as she worked on her little project, but then again, she’d always been terrible at managing time.

Now, Ellaine pulled out the crochet flower coaster bouquet and… frowned. She clicked jer tongue before heading back to sections displaying the thick-ish paper and made a gift box out of it – again. She put the sunflower crochet coaster inside, penning a short note of gratitude to go with it, slipping it in between the mini-bouquet and the lucky-stars-jar. Moderately satisfied with the results, Ellaine once again secured a ribbon around the box, horizontally this time, ending it with yet another bow on top.
Ellaine looked at the three gifts in front of her, all of them hidden inside boxes.

…Well, perhaps her inner wish to not see their immediate reaction was seeping through. Regardless of which, Ellaine sought to prepare her list of actions in delivering the gifts. The elf-gift would go to that table over there, where there were already a couple gifts scattered over the surface. The friend-gift – a school owl would suffice, Ellaine consoled herself, and mentally added a note to mark its recipient later on. The gift for the professor, however… She wondered if it was appropriate to simply knock on her office door, hope it’s empty, and leave it there.

Squinting lightly, she decided that it was probably not an option. Ellaine made a mental note to ask her fellow Housemates. Surely one of them would know, right? If not – then owls it was.

With that, she left the Great Hall with two gift boxes in her hands, another one left at the elf-table, heading up the stairs towards the Owlery. It was a nice afternoon, all things considered. Now, if only her bed wasn’t so far away…
