Prodigal Hard As A Rock Solo

Learning spells ahead of time was a ton of fun but it was tiring. Friendships were harder to form because Donald spent so much time studying to get ahead. His hope was to be a good wizard and friends would come later. In the young Muggleborn's eyes, he was way behind simply due to his birth and early childhood without magic. Doing these extra sessions inside the Transfiguration classroom were a huge boost in his self-esteem.

"Ok... the second year syllabus says..," Donald spoke to himself out loud in the basically empty room. "Hardening charm... which turns objects to stone. Solid stone even... awesome!"

Donnie thought of hundreds of uses for a spell like this. Defensive barriers, funny pranks, and many more possibilities. He wouldn't say that out loud to the teacher though. At least not the prank potentials he was imagining. This time at least he would read the textbook entry fully before trying to do the spell. The book mentioned there was no spark or light for this charm which made it easier to conceal.

"Perfect..," Donald muttered as he read that bit of information.

Further in the chapter it mentioned that the wand movement was basically drawing a "D" in the air. That seemed rather crude but whatever. It was going to be easy for Donald to remember that at least. As far as the incantation goes, it was short and seemed real easy to say. This spell was going to be a piece of cake for Donald to remember and use.

A question did come to mind though. Donald had no idea how to undo this spell. Counter spells had not really been taught yet despite Donald having heard of them. So far most of his spells had to wear off or be permanent. That seemed perfectly safe. For now, Donald would practice on an apple he took from lunch earlier. His wand made the proper shape, pointed at the apple on the desk, and Donald said the word.

"Duro!" Donald said confidently as he imagined the apple turning to stone, and the whole desk. "Uh oh."

The little desk top had turned into stone. It didn't seem to spread to the whole thing but the tiny table was now stone on the top. At least the spell worked a little bit. Even though the apple didn't get hit, the spell had worked. Donald looked around to see if anyone had noticed. No one seemed to be looking his way and the desk didn't seem so bad in stone. It almost looked fancier even. He was sure someone could fix it if it got annoying or didn't fade away with time.

"Duro!" This time the aim was more careful and the Apple turned to stone. "Yesss!"

Aiming would need to be refined to say the least. That would come with pranks and practice. Donald had a new spell to add to the pile.
