With her usual stoicism, Miren stepped inside the Library. It easily became one of her favourite places in the whole castle. One could find pretty much anything in the books stocked on the huge shelves. She would be lying, however, if she said that felt like enough. Not with the Restricted Section being right there, just out of reach. It was alluring to say the least. The knowledge that had to lie on all those pages forbidden to someone like her.
Once again, the girl eyed the fence preventing anyone unauthorized from entering. One day, she thought. One day, I will find out how to get in. The questions of when and how were still a mystery even to her, but she was not going to give up that easily. Because if Miren really wanted something, she just refused to back down.
For now, though, she had to settle for the knowledge from the books available to everyone. That’s why she headed to the area she had visited countless times already during her stay at Hogwarts. On the way, she couldn’t not notice the various pink and purple tufts all over the place. No matter how annoying she found them, it wasn’t anything new these days. Pretty much the whole castle was flooded with Pygmy Puff fur, and while Miren herself didn’t enjoy the inconvenience, she knew that there were people who were bothered by the tufts in a whole different way. The thought of her Charms Professor immediately came to mind. From what Miren had heard, the poor woman found herself allergic to the pink and purple terror. That was something Miren was glad to have been spared.
The girl knew her Professor would be more than grateful for any help in getting rid of the fur. In fact, she remembered the errand the woman had put up. But alas, while Miren felt certain sympathy towards her, she still saw it as nothing but her problem. So, intending to ignore all the fluff around, she arrived at the section she wanted in the Library.
Looking at the different titles on the shelves, Miren finally found the one that piqued her interest. The book’s cover was old and barely readable, but the words “Dark Arts” were still somewhat recognizable. Miren reached for the book, pulling it out from its respectable place on the shelf. It was then that a handful of pink fluff fell out from behind the book, landing right on her nose. With a slight frown, Miren blew it off before returning to picking out books.
To her annoyance, however, the more books she pulled out of the shelf, the more tufts fell out. Some landed in her hair, some ended up on the floor, and others floated out of the section entirely. With a frustrated sigh, Miren put the books down on a nearby desk, looking at one of the floating tufts as if it had personally offended her. And maybe it did. One thing was for sure, though – she couldn’t ignore them anymore.
Rolling her eyes, she pulled some of the fluff out of her messy hair before picking up the ones on the floor. Even that amount was too much for her liking, but she knew better than to assume that was it. To say that the whole castle was flooded wasn’t an overstatement, and everyone could’ve seen the proof with their own eyes by now. Another frustrated sigh has left her lips as she started pulling out more books, collecting even more of the soft, pink and purple tufts from behind them. Guess I’m not reading anytime soon, after all. With that thought and a hint of irritation on her usually stoic face, she continued with the bothersome deed of de-fluffing.
