A New Start
Elspeth fiddled with the buttons of her coat as she approached the train. She had chosen her outfit deliberately: a long, lavender coat that reached down to her knees, a simple yet elegant black dress, and black dress shoes. Her blonde hair was tied back with a ribbon that matched the color of her coat. She hoped that her outfit gave off its intended effect and established an impression of sophistication on those who looked at her. Becoming aware of her fiddling, she stilled her hand and willed it to return to her side. She needed to seem confident and proud, the daughter that her father had instructed her to be.
“Follow me,” Elspeth instructed Wilm, the house-elf that accompanied her to the platform. Her parents, of course, weren’t able to accompany her. Her father had come into her room the night before and claimed that they were busy with a work-related emergency and wouldn’t return to the estate for at least a week. Elspeth suspected that he was lying to her and simply feared the public retribution that may occur if they were recognized while accompanying her. She led Wilm onto the train and down the aisle, searching for an open compartment. She managed to find one and took a seat, eyeing Wilm as he levitated and stored her trunk.
“Is there anything else Wilm can do for Miss Portlaen?” Wilm asked her. A smile played on her lips.
“No. Thank you for your help, Wilm. You may tell my mother that I arrived safely.”
“Goodbye, Miss Portlaen.” With that, Wilm disappeared, leaving Elspeth alone. With a sigh of relief, she relaxed her posture and waited for the train to leave.

A New Start
Meredith stormed off from her father, " Why should he get to tell her which house she should be in, just because Mum was in Ravenclaw and Dad was in Hufflepuff why do I have to be in those houses I would like to be in Slytherin just because Dad hates it." She though with a small smile of disobedience. She walk on to the train and saw a girl with a house elf and wondered why it was there and wanted to ask but she held herself back but it almost slipped out as a rude remark but she started it out with," Hi I'm Meredith, is that a house elf? Sorry I've never seen one before my father hide magic from me all of my life so I had no clue magic was real. My father thought I was a Squib but when I got my letter he told me every thing so I got mad and just so you know when I get mad or upset a little I might yell because I have never been able to do that. Sorry I talk to much I am probable really annoying." Ack why was I saying so much about me I should have just said hi and asked if I could sit down! But why the house elf that is not important at all but it could be just maybe.Meredith thought. As the house elf disappeared Meredith was so surprised she almost screamed nothing had ever done that before. The girl must have thought she was crazy to have never have seen a house elf before.
