ERRAND Starborn Wonders sign ups the lyrids meteor shower

On the night of the 22nd of April, 2026, will occur a rare phenomenon, seen once every sixty years. Remnants of the Comet Thatcher will pierce the sky, crumbling down earth in a stunning rainpour, streaks of light illuminating the night — The Lyrid Meteor Shower.

The week-end prior, a sign-up sheet would have been pinned on the announcement board, inviting students to participate in an exceptional night. Indeed, Ravenclaw Prefect Elena Clark, the Charms professor Katherine Townsend, the Librarian Helen Doukas and the Groundskeeper Taros Quintero have combined their enthusiasm and expertise to offer Hogwarts students a stargazing night out in the grounds surrounding the castle.

Students will be gathered in the Great Hall after the end of classes, counted and aligned before departure. Once organized, the troop will make its way through Hogwarts Grounds, headed to the mountains surrounding the castle, while Taros provides insights on the beautiful sceneries they are sailing through, or the magical creatures eventually encountered during this brief march. The view was picturesque, plucked right out of a postcard — proud pines towering cliffs, timid animals scattering upon hearing the loud flock arriving, leaves gently falling down. A light breeze brushed the foliage of surrounding trees, refreshing those who would be less acclimated to hikes, however short they may be. The terrain chosen by Elena, Kitty, Helen and Taros, a flat plateau higher in the mountains, had already been prepared under their care — countless tents awaited to be set, either wizarding ones for those who prioritized comfort or, for the more adventurous who wanted to try themselves at the complete camping experience, muggle ones. After an hour long walk, students would be free to call dibs on tents, set them up with the assistance of our organizers, and settling themselves comfortably.

While everyone would eagerly await complete darkness, students would be free to wander within the delimited area, and try themselves at the different ateliers offered, each set around a large bonfires with plethora of marshmallows, fruits, and other delicacies to feast on, or roast. Kitty would oversee the process, helping whoever would need assistance, occasionally stealing a marshmallow and fueling a lively atmosphere. One bonfire would host a reading corner with Helen, either voiced out tales about mythologies linked to the above constellations, or simply a quiet corner for those who wished to unwind and stargaze peacefully. Another would be held by Elena, sharing explanations as to what they were about to witness tonight, answering questions and sharing her own excitement regarding astronomy, and the surrounding constellations, and training students on how to recognize them. A final one would feature Taros, continuing his stories about the grounds they were welcomed in, sharing interesting facts or his own personal experience. Students would be free to come and go between the different bonfires, or simply linger by their tent, bonding with their peers.

Around midnight, all lights would be extinguished, and students would be encouraged to settle comfortably and gaze at the night sky, awaiting for the meteor shower to appear.

The next morning, students would be heading back to the castle after making sure their tent was orderly, and no pollution resulted from their presence. Kitty, Helen, Taros and Elena would make sure to put everything away, and the errand would end on the morning of the 23rd of April.
