Hunting for Puffy Fur
As usual, Cassie is going to practise Ballet for her spring royalty activity. She leaves her common room on the Saturday afternoon with her normal bag. Except that if you open her bag this time, besides her pointe shoes and a small box of rosin, you will find a small transparent plastic bag, some pairs of gloves and some rolls of tape-- she has a special meeting with friends before this practice.
When she heard that a new errand was set up by Charms professor Katherine Townsend, she was thrilled-- cleaning is what she regularly does with her friends in the Hogwarts Volunteer Club, and she will even be rewarded this time for her acts of kindness. But just as she is leaving her common room, she spots her friend on her bedside desk, looking at her, seeming to be alone. 'Aww you want me to take you together? Alright then.' Cassie smiles as she puts Wisdom, her purple pygmy puff on her shoulder. And that is why she is taking some plastic bags-- to collect the fur they pick up and make a small coat, if it can be called one, for Wisdom. Probably it'll be a lovely one in shades of pink and purple. She knows that this means extra workload but anyway, who would deny such a cute friend's company?
Thinking as she is walking, she suddenly realizes that she is by the entrance of the ballroom. She opens her door and walks inside. It seems that she is the first in the team to be here. She puts her bag down and takes out her things. Who will be the first to come? She wonders...

A constant sniffle. The only thing that told him that it wasn’t a cold was 1. It got slightly better when he went outside. And 2. The fine layer of pink fur that seemed to cover every surface known to man. He had heard of people reacting similarly to trees, as silly as it was, at this time of year. Se guessed some people reacted to animal fur too. Not wanting to look like a wuss, he had decided to suffer through his challenges. That was until Professor Townsend decided to do something about the icky pink fluff. He had been more than willing to sign up and help get rid of it. Not because he wanted to clean, no he had way better use of his time. But maybe if he helped, they would clear the castle quicker.
He had even managed to connect with a couple of friends, so hopefully it wouldn’t be so boring after all. He left the common room with a bag swung over his shoulder, and gloves in hand. If just being near the fur made him this bad, he dreaded what it could do if he touched it with bare hands. He shook the thought off as he descended the stairs. More than once he had to wipe at his nose, getting the feeling that his slightly stuffed nose might release a drop.
The pink stuff really was everywhere. He passed a couple that had started already, tackling small sections of the stairs and corridors. He passed them by. They had agreed to meet on the fourth floor, and there was nothing holding him back. Reaching the floor, he sneezed. Thankfully not loudly, but the sound seemed to carry anyways. He shook it off as best he could. He had no time for it.
Funny, he saw no trace of any of them. If he was the first to show up, it would be the first time ever. A reporter should probably be called. Eyeing the ballroom he breathed a sigh of relief. There was no way the pride and glory had lowered itself to be covered too, right? People would have seen to it that it remained spotless. So in the hopes of finding relief from the itching, he poked the door open and snook inside.
No luck. The room was as covered as everywhere else. He let a couple of crude words slip, as he began stepping back. That was when he noticed her. Finally! He wasn’t the first one after all! He stopped in his tracks as he felt another sneeze coming. It was stubborn though, so after a moment he stepped closer, crossing the room to stand beside her. «Heya, Cassie» He greeted with a nod and as big of a grin as he could muster. «What a nuisance, right?» He shook his head as if there was no way she would or could disagree.
He turned to face her now. «Do you know when the rest will… Achoo!» He had to stop midway through his sentence as the sneeze came faster than he managed to react. He shot his hand up, not quite getting them there on time. When he managed to open his eyes, a look of embarrassment and apology entered his face. «I’m so sorry! It’s the blasted fur…» He shook his head. If it was up to him, he would set fire to the whole thing. The castle would probably burn too, but it was better than suffering with this plague any longer.

It hasn't been long before a boy enters the ballroom. Cassie recognizes him, Maximilianus at once. They once met in the rehearsal room, performing their own kind of art. Cassie was dancing and Max was playing the drum. They discussed their understandings of art and became friends ever since.
'Hi Max. Yep the fur indeed needs to be cleaned. You know, I have got a Volunteer Club and was about to clean the fur. Anyway, who would refuse doing some basic cleaning for rewards!' The boy continues to talk, but he sneezes. 'It is alright' Cassie smiles, 'I know how suffering it can be to be in a place filled with fur for some. My mother hates fur and dust, she always sneezes when I am playing with stuffed toys or things like that. Here.' Cassie hands the boy a paper tissue.
'As for the other two. I am not sure but I suppose Zephy and Denise will arrive soon. By the way, do you have any suggestions on how to remove those fur quickly? I brought some plastic bags to hold the fur we collect.' Just then, Cassie remembers that Wisdom, her purple pygy puff is still on her shoulder. Which might be one of the causes why the boy in front of her sneezed. She adjusts the pygmy puff's position quietly so that it won't be that easy to be noticed.

Zephyr was out of the castle earlier that day, just trying to get some air and clear his head after a frustrating morning of flying practice. Nothing serious happened, just small mistakes, a bit of stiffness in his shoulder, and the most annoying part, his focus kept slipping at the wrong moments. He told himself he'll just walk it off and maybe go back to studying later. When he first heard about the Spring cleaning task, he didn't need much convincing. It sounded simple enough, and more importantly, he would be useful. Sitting still was not helping him that day.
Their meeting place was the ballroom and along the way, the air was already visibly full of pink and purple fluff floating around. Thank Merlin this isn’t pollen. You don't know how relieved he was at that realization because pollen season for him was already bad. Not to the point that he won't be able to function all day but bad enough that he remembered it clearly every year. His eyes would get irritated within minutes outside, his nose would not stop running, and his head would feel heavy enough that even basic focus became difficult. Or maybe that's the reason why he's having difficulty maintaining his focus this morning. It's spring season after all. Flying during those weeks was almost impossible unless he takes something beforehand. He usually ended up staying indoors more which he hated by the way, because it meant missing practice or avoiding the lake or just generally feeling stuck.
Seeing all this fluff everywhere should have been annoying in general sense, but instead, he was weirdly relieved. At least this he could deal with and not mess with his breathing or make his head feel it was full of cotton. "Hello, sorry I'm a bit late. Almost forgot the time." He overheard Max sneezing even before he entered the room fully. He knew how that feels like and it's not fun at all. He had seen enough people react like that during pollen season to recognize it instantly. “You okay Max?" Honestly, it could have been worse. If this was pollen, half the castle would already be lying down. "We're still waiting for Denise right? Want to assign a section now so we know which part to deal with?" Less chance of them stepping on each other’s work. While looking around the room, he waved his hand when some fluff float in front of him. “To be honest, I’ll take fluff over pollen any day.”

As Cassie is talking with Max, the third member of their errand team enters the room. Recognizing his voice, Cassie greets Zephyr with a smile. 'Hi Zephyr!' she takes a look at her watch, 'you are here on time! It is still two minutes to the time we agreed on. And yes, we are waiting for Denise now, but I suppose we can start working first!'
Hearing the boy talk about pollen, Cassie feels glad that she is not allergic to anything. 'I'm sorry to hear that. Hope everything will get better this year after we work hard to clean everything in this errand.' She suddenly remembers the tools she has brought. 'Here!' she says cheerfully as she hands the plastic bags to her friends. 'I've also brought some rolls of tape in case some of us don't want to perform spells.'
She thinks for a few seconds when Zephyr mentions assigning sections. 'Since it will be four of us cleaning the place,' she says, 'what about starting from the four corners!' she can clearly see pygmy puff fur in the corners and by the walls of the room. 'What do you think?' she asks as she slightly adjusts the position of Wisdom, in case she feels uncomfortable.

He was thankful he didn’t experience this sort of allergy often. Thinking back, barely a handful of instances came to mind. That was all well and good for him. If he could choose, he would rid the world of the blasted fur once and for all. But he had yet to think of the animals that would be affected. «We could always try to set it on fire?» He barely chuckled. Not that he would mind seeing it all burn, but he knew the Ravenclaw girl was unlikely to agree.
He wiped at his nose, the tissue getting more and more crumpled. But he still managed a sort of smile when Zeph joined them. «Hey. I see I’m the only one so far that has been cursed to sniffle…» A bit of a grimace. Pollen was at least useful! The insects needed it, not that he really knew what for, but that didn’t really matter right now anyways.
It was when accepting the plastic bag that he spotted the pygmy puff perched on Cassie’s shoulder. He wrinkled his nose a bit, but refrained from saying anything. It wasn’t the creature’s fault it was created with fur from the deepest and darkest pits of suffering. Besides, it looked almost cute.
He turned to the closest corner, before throwing a glance over his shoulder at the other two. «I still vote we set fire to it. If we just stick close by, ready to put out the flames… Nothing else would light up, right?»

Cassie mentioned the time and he chuckled out of pure amusement. “Didn’t even realize, it feels like I was late.” It’s how he usually feels when his head was all over the place. Today especially. “It’s fine, it’s been my life for years now. It’s just annoying more than anything.” He usually didn’t like making a big deal out of it. It’s not something he could control anyway. He took one of the plastic bags when she handed them out, and folded the top over his wrist so it would not slip. “Thanks, this will help a lot.” His gaze went to the tape next, “Not bad doing this the regular way.” Every spell or quick motion they do could stir the air, and right now the air was the problem.
She suggested starting from the four corners, and looking around the space, that’s where most of the fur had settled. “I don’t mind that.” If they take each one, they could push everything inward to keep it from spreading back out. “I’ll take the one near the entrance.” He slipped his gloves on and tightened them at the wrist. While doing so, he inquired about the creature on Cassie’s shoulder. “Who’s that?” After pulling on his gloves, he went to his chosen corner and squatted near the door, he tried sweeping the fluff with his hands like he suggested earlier. It was a bad idea. “We just gather it in and…” He wasn’t able to finish his sentence before things started going downhill for him. The moment his hand moved fast…whoosh…
A whole cloud of pink and purple fluff floated into the air, “Oh no.” He froze but it was too late. It spread everywhere. A slow motion disaster. Strands drifted past his face, one landing right on his nose. “I think I made it worse.” He sneezed loudly, and that only made it even worse. His sneeze sent another wave of fluff flying across the room and it scattered over the table, the floor, everywhere. He turned to his companion, eyes widening. “Okay, sorry, nobody move…” He stepped forward to help, wrong move again. His slid on a patch of fluff and he automatically grabbed the nearest thing to steady himself which happened to be the table, which had the plastic bags, which he accidentally knocked. Another piece fell right into his hair and shoulders. It was worse….definitely worse. “I’m screwed, am I not?” Looking at Cassie, then at Max, laughing now, “I should have just burn them all.”

Cassie smiles when Max suggests putting the fur on fire. 'You must be crazy.' she chuckles, 'all the wallpaper we've got here might be ignited as well. Imagine what trouble we'd get into if you lit the whole ballroom!' She says. Zephyr seems to notice her pygmy puff. 'Ah meet Wisdom! Hope you don't mind my taking her along. Don't worry, I've brushed her hair already.' She grins, turning to her pygmy puff, 'Wisdom, this is Zephyr Deakin' She walks to her corner. 'Wingardium Leviosa' she says, doing a swish and flick with her wand. Pygmy puff fur comes floating into the air and into the plastic bags she has prepared. After a few minutes, she starts humming a cheerful tone as she works. She is not afraid of fluff, luckily, so she puts her roll of tape aside.
She thinks she hears someone talking, recognizing that it is Zephyr, she turns to look at him, hoping to find out what is happening. She is surprised to notice pygmy puff fur in pink and purple floating in the air around him. The boy is not allergic to fluff, but he is sneezing right now. How awful it must be for him! Cassie rushes to his corner to help him.
But it is too late.
Zephyr knocks a bag of already collected pygmy puff fur. In an instant, the boy is covered with colourful fur. Even Cassie coughs a bit. 'Are you alright?' Cassie asks, concerned. 'It's my fault.' she says as a sense of guilt. He must feel terrible. 'I should have agreed with Max's idea.' her voice lowers.
But she knows what is truly important right now is to help Zephyr out of his trouble. She reaches for her wand, but she realizes that it has been left at her corner. The waving of the wand might cause the fur to swirl some more too. She kneels down and picks some of the fluff stuck on his robe. As for the rest, Cassie feels it proper to use magic instead. She waves her hand in a small swish and flick position. 'Wingardium Leviosa' she says, and concentrates at her hands. Pink and purple fluff flies from Zephyr's robe towards her pale, slender fingers. She carefully lays them down in the plastic bag. ‘This won't take long.’ Cassie explains with a soft voice, desperate to free the boy from his miserable state.

Sadly he was in the company of more sensible souls. He sniffled a bit as the other talked, trying to come up with an acceptable idea.
The pet was introduced, and he drew back with a bit of a grimace. One singular animal could hardly be so bad, but he hesitated to get close when puffs of fur made him sneeze like this. He was sure that Wisdom was very sweet, bug he had no need to get up close and personal with it. Wiping at his nose once again, he looked about the room. It was drifting everywhere.
Luck evaded Zeph as he tried to levitate the fur where he wanted it. Thankfully Cassie was a good one to help out. After thinking a moment, he pulled out his own wand as well. If levitating stray hairs into a plastic bag was the best option, this would take forever, and they would never be done.
«No, you know what?» His words were sudden, but he had more than made up his mind. A sneeze followed by him wiping his nose interrupted what followed. He blew out a frustrated breath before aiming his wand into the air. «I say we set fire to it. We can always put it out if it doesn’t work!» Forever the optimist, he focused before doing the familiar pattern with his wand. «Inscendio!»
