George glanced up from his own copy of Enchantments Magazine, his chubby cheeks stuffed full of chicken. "Hmmghmp?" he grunted, muffled by his mouthful of food. He kept his eyes on Jake as the other boy talked. While George didn't really care much for magical creatures in the way that Jake did, he was polite enough to sit and listen while the younger Hufflepuff talked about them. It was earned - he talked Jake's ear off about Beast and Being classifications for almost a full fifteen minutes after the younger lad had mentioned werewolves. The safest time to start talking to George about something is when he had his mouth full, lest he steamroll the conversation with his own interests.

George nodded in affirmative, furrowing his brow at Jake. Had he heard of the loch ness monster? He was the Scottish one! He made a grumbly noise that would have been a sarcastic comment, had he not just forked a piece of broccoli into his gob. As Jake spoke, George nodded along, his chewing slowing as he stopped to consider this important information on Kelpies. He leaned over against Jake's shoulder to take a look into his book, peering at the image on the page. The loch ness monster was a pretty disgusting looking beast.

By the time the question about entrails came, George had finally swallowed the first half of his lunch. He was skewering some more vegetables on his fork as he spoke, not looking at Jake. "Entrails is like..." George reached down, patting his full belly and gesturing around it vaguely. "You know, guts."

"Oh, ya know what else?" Jake asked.

"What?" George looked to him, giving the younger boy his full attention, which was a rare thing to have. Unfortunately, it was squandered. He saw Jake was looking uneasily toward where he could hear Jack and Willow having a little fight about something.

"They're fine," he assured the little badger. Mostly, he was curious what else there would be to know about the loch ness monster. "What else?"

But Jake wasn't even paying attention any more. George could hear that they had stopped arguing, so he wasn't sure what the younger boy had to be so concerned about. In fact, the whole table had suddenly become very silent. "What else?" George repeated, annoyed. "Do I have to guess?"

Curious as to what all the fuss had been about, George turned around in time to see what had captured Jake's attention. Jack and Willow, k-i-s-s-i-n-g. Way to ruin everyone's appetite. George set his fork down, his face scrunched up in pure confusion. He looked down who his younger bunk mate, who looked substantially more upset. It was an upset, in fairness. Since when had Jack started kissing girls?

Jake's concern for the other Hufflepuff boy's health made George laugh out loud, sputtering into a cough for a moment before he thumped himself on the chest. Still a bit of food caught in the pipes, he guessed.

"I don't know if they have a cure for what he's got," George said, with a dreamy sigh. He delivered a solemn diagnosis. "Stupidity."

Love? Calling it love might be too much. Jack would never call it love. He would barely call it a like like. There was something about her, though Jack couldn't tell exactly what. She was a firecracker, and the boy knew he liked that.

Out of nowhere, Jack had decided to kiss her. Many would call that heat of the moment decision, but Jack wouldn't actually consider his action a decision. Like most everything, Jack did it was done quickly and without forethought. It may have taken him several encounters with the girl actually to recognize the fact that he might have a budding crush-This kiss was lasting awhile? Was it going on for too long?

Vainly, Jack thought about how he must be fantastic at kissing. I mean, there would be absolutely no other reason for the kiss to be lasting this long. It wasn't like she could be shocked or anything like that...

Eventually, it would have to end, like most good things. What the Hufflepuff hadn't expected was the yelling that followed! 'How dare you'-Blah blah blah- 'Great hall'- Blah blah blah- 'Do you really think that you're that great of a person?' Well, yes, but he didn't say that aloud. It almost took him a minute to realize that the wet Gryffindor from the pool party was holding her back! He glanced at him, somewhat grateful that she wasn't free to tear into him like a crazed tiger!

"Look, it wasn't that bad, was it? C'mon, it would have never of lasted that long if you didn't, at least, enjoy it a lil' bit-" Jack started before a soft thump against his back. Curiously he turned to see a small stuffed animal lying on the floor. Was it a ....horse? ...Giraffe? ...Llama? Does it honestly matter? All that mattered is that somebody had thrown it at him! Glancing behind him, Jack saw Mildred standing there with anger(?) in her eyes. Again this whole shebang had been a series of subverted expectations: yelling, random Gryffs, Mildred, and a stuffed whatever. Like a cherry on top, there stood his two best friends gawking. Jake, with a mix of horror and worry on his face and George, looking surprisingly annoyed. George had seen Jack do much worse, without disapproving looks like that. What was his deal? They were too far away for Jack to hear over Willow's yelling, but they were clearly focused on him.

Finally, he had the chance to react appropriately: "Look, no need to throw a tantrum- it was just a kiss," Was all Jack felt like he needed to say, and with that, he raised his hands in mock surrender, "My bad."

Willow gently released Alan's hand, feeling like she could have control over the situation. She needed the control, Jack was someone that always threw her for a loop when it came to control. What was it about Jack? He was a pain in her side, but they went along so well together. Their idea of mischief making and having fun lining up pretty well when they were actually working together rather than against each other. She had experienced her fair share of surprises from others in terms of physical attacks, but never was one a kiss. A sign of affection, of care in some way. Did he like her? Could she like him? Was she even worth someone's love? Something in her wanted to kiss him again just to see.

A hand went up to touch her lips, as if the feeling of the kiss was already disappearing and she wanted to hold onto it. He was right, it wasn't that bad as far as first kiss expectations went, except for the fact that they were literally in the middle of a fight. About her art. She had to remember why she was angry, caught up in the possibility of feelings, rather than the ones that were already boiling inside her.

It was then she realized the flying object was a good friend of hers, Chicken. Eyes quickly found Mildred, begging her with her eyes to drag her out of here since her own legs weren't moving. Except this dumb boy kept opening his mouth. Just a kiss? This was her first kiss! On her birthday! This wasn't a small act, it was grand theft. All feelings of wonder and amazement of affection were gone as briefly as they had come to cloud her thoughts. She slowly walked towards him, trying to seem as intimidating as she could as she spoke with as much calm as she could. "No big deal? It was my first kiss you arrogant string bean. You stole it from me. Those are supposed to be special. But no, you took that away from me." At this point she was standing directly in front of him, glaring up at the tall boy.

'I could kiss him again like this...'

Quickly she shook off the thought, she was furious with him. It wasn't her fault that he had a stupid cute face and a goofy smile that lowered her defenses. "And once again you can't muster a half decent apology."

Alan looked in between Willow and Jack with a mix of confusion and worry. It still was not clear to him what exactly had happened. Of course he had noticed the kiss, how couldn't he have? But he did not get why the kiss happened and what was up with this situation. Clearly Willow had not been aware of all of that happening until it was too late or was she? He glanced at the taller Hufflepuff, Jack as he had learned just a day before this one. He had met the boy at the pool and thought he was fun to be around and he clearly understood why George and Jake were friends with him. He had also seen that day how close he must be with Willow, but judging from Willow's tirade they were clearly not as close as they might have seemed the day prior when the Hufflepuff girl had been carried around by the obviously taller kid.

A stuffed animal flew through the room and after hitting Jack with a soft thud, it fell to the ground like the lifeless object it was. Alan had no idea who threw the stuffed animal; an alpaca if he remembered correctly, but he was sure of one thing: stuffed animals did not belong onto the floor of a dining hall as big and crowdy  as Hogwart's. He carefully picked up the colorful piece of fabric filled with what felt like fluffy cotton and held it in his hand a bit confused. He took a look around, trying to figure out who it belonged to and caught sight of Jake; him perhaps? He disregarded that thought right away, the small badger looked way too confused and... disgusted to be throwing around stuffed animals. Alan doubted he would throw around a stuffed animal at all and quickly came to the conclusion that the answer would be no. The question why he looked so disgusted stayed and Alan wondered whether there were too many greens on his plate. If Jake happened to see him, Alan would offer him a light smile and a nod as greeting before he caught movement from the corner of his eye.

Warily he watched as Willow stepped closer to the Hufflepuff boy, ready to step in once again. He had never seen the girl so angry or well, he had never seen the girl even remotely angry and was surprised to see her capable of an emotion such as fury. He really hoped she would not be doing anything silly, because there were countless professors and prefects present in the Great Hall who would be quick to give her detention if she were to hit him. Alan wouldn't be letting her get into detention for defending herself like this, but had no idea how to handle such a situation either. If only he had more social skills or knowledge how to figure out situations right in front of his nose, like he had seen Flash do before. But he also couldn't just do nothing, which is why he looked around for another familiar face until he spotted George right by Jake's side. The Gryffindor's shoulders fell in relief and he sighed. He really hoped that George would know how to handle the situation, if something were to go wrong. He did notice that the Hufflepuff was watching the situation and he seemed to be interacting with Jake occasionally, so the third year also hoped that he would be willing to step into the situation if it meant to stop Jack and Willow from causing trouble. He really wanted to prevent it if they were going to do something dumb.

Jake looked up, alarmed at his friend's coughing, now worried about the health of BOTH of his badger brothers. George seemed alright though. Jack on the other hand...

The little Hufflepuff wrinkled his nose and watched the two of them. If it hadn't been some kind of magic gone wrong, then there was nothing else to explain it except that Jack had done that on purpose. That was a weird thought, and one that Jake wasn't sure how to feel about.

Jake had known, of course, that eventually kids were going to start doing that. He had SEEN kids doing it in the common room before (though a surprising amount of them seemed to stop when Jake was looking - which had really been a relief). They hadn't been KID kids though. They'd been teenagers, mostly. And teenagers were only kids in name. They were more like adults than children really, and so he wasn't surprised that they did something like that. It made him feel weird, and sort of grossed out, but it didn't make him feel weird like THIS did...

This made him feel REALLY weird. A swirling wrongness deep in his tummy (or, he remembered, deep in his entrails). He didn't answer George as he observed the two again, taking this information in, and watching them in a new light. He didn't think Jack was stupid, but Jake had seen enough of the teenagers both in real life and on TV to know the kind of stupidity that George was talking about. It was the stupidity of love, the worst kind of all.

They were still first years...why were Jack and Willow changing? Willow had only been twelve for a few hours. Did that mean they were teenagers now, a year early? And if they were...well...what did that mean for the rest of them?

From what Jake had seen, teenagers didn't always like to play with kids.

Jake pushed his sandwich away. He didn't think he was going to be hungry anymore today.

George watched, curious to see how the whole thing would play out. Even at home, he wasn't allowed to eat at the television - and now here he was getting his lunch and some entertainment at the same time. Everything really was better at Hogwarts.

Unlike Jake, George did not have too strong of a reaction to seeing them kiss one way or the other. It was, obviously, quite gross, but it wasn't enough to turn or stomach or make him wonder about anything more than what would happen next. They'd attracted a small crowd of spectators by kissing at the table. George would have to keep that in mind if he was ever in need of a quick fix of attention.

George had been twelve for quite a long time and had yet to jump over any tables and kiss anybody. He glanced across at his potential candidates and wrinkled his nose. Nothing but a bunch of Hufflepuffs, and all quite immature like himself. He wouldn't want to kiss any of them. He barely wanted to be in the same house as them.

Jake pushed his sandwich away, catching George's attention enough to get him to pull his eyes away from the spectacle of love going on down the table a ways.

"What, too disgusting for you?" he asked, with a snicker. He reached over to steal the younger badger's sandwich, taking a bite from it. That didn't even register in his mind as being just as disgusting as a kiss, but at least he had cheesy goodness to look forward to instead of cooties. "You ought to be taking notes, you know. What if you want to get a girlfriend? Jack seems to know all about it."

This was all just a bit too much for the boy. Jack hadn't felt like his kiss had warranted everyone to freak out at him suddenly! It was just a stupid kiss. It seriously no big deal! The victim in question, Willow, had recoiled only to move back closer. Jack could tell she was trying her best not to swing a left hook straight to his jaw. Her little face was a strawberry red, and Jack couldn't help the tiniest chuckle from escaping his lips.

Looking down at the irate little girl, Jack felt no sense of nervousness or unease at the fact that he did 'steal' her first kiss. Not like it was that big of a deal. Jack had his first kiss ripped away from him. Just another day in the life of a Hogwarts student, he assumed.

Jack was getting the feeling that things were getting a little too hostile for the boy, and he decided that it was just about to say Auf Wiedersehen. Time to leave. Willow was going on about how he couldn't even say sorry in the correct way- Which is very untrue. He said sorry, shouldn't that be enough? "
Look, If you think I'm just gonna stand here and get yelled at, you are wrong." With a flourished turn, Jack walked away from the girl. He had quickly decided that he wasn't in the mood to deal with any more stuff.

As he walked out of the great hall, Jack gave Mildred a steely glare before passing by. Who in the world throws a stuffy at somebody?! Next, his eyes were drawn to the boys. Sarcastically he spoke, "You're lookin' like you've been suckin' bad flavored jelly bean." With that, he left the hall.

Maybe Willow had been too harsh. Her anger was never something she could control well. Suddenly she felt bad as Jack started to make his leave out of the Great Hall. She couldn't help but feel they were both in the wrong. Him, for kissing her. And her, for making such a big deal about it. So much so where Alan got involved. Thankfully he did, otherwise she really didn't know what she would do.

She opened her mouth to protest him leaving, but decided to let it go and let him walk off. Slowly, she turned around to face Alan again seeing Chicken in his hand. "That's.. Mildred's. I can take it. She's right over there." She gently took the alpaca and held it to her chest for comfort. "Thank you for helping me out there Alan. I'm just... I'm gonna go." With a final glance at the two boys that also seemed to be observing and were absolutely disgusted she gave a single nod before turning on her heel and walking out with her head down. She still felt utterly embarrassed.

Her course of movement was headed straight towards Mildred, her best friend other than Flash. She handed her chicken and grabbed her hand gently. "Can we go to the common room before class? I have food that I can give you since you haven't eaten yet." Mildred agreed, and together they headed out of this extremely weird and incredibly eventful lunch.

He would hand the stuffed animal to Willow and nodded. He still hoped that she was okay though. His gaze for a quick second shifted towards the girl he would get to know as Mildred, before watching Willow leave. Alan would sigh softly, shaking his head as he made his way over to the Gryffindor table to seek out Scott so that they could sit together. Alan still was not completely sure what had actually happened there but he also did not really want to think about it much. He just hoped that Willow was alright, that was all. But he assumed he would find out during their birthday party later that day.

He sat down across from Scott and began to talk to his dorm mate as he filled up his plate so that he could finally eat some of the lunch; the actual reason he had entered the Great Hall for. @Scott Alexander usually was around and Alan spend most of his lunch or food breaks with him if they happened to be in the great hall at the same time. After finishing his lunch he would just follow the usual course of the day without much of any further issues, looking forward to the evening and Willow and his birthday party.
