Goodbye To A World

Early, a bit too early for her comfort. The station was already crowded, sunlight bleeding into the building as the train halted with a hiss. The doors opened, allowing students to board for their next stop. An exciting moment, but frightening for Blythe.
โYouโll do great!โ
Her father exclaimed happily without anything else to add. Was that supposed to make her feel better? Surely not.
โIโll do fantastic!โ
She huffs sardonically in an attempt to avoid expressing her nervousness, standing there absentmindedly as more students begin crawling onto the train. Soon, she follows their trail, venturing into the vast interior of the train with mild confusion. This looked more like a maze than a train, she thought, finding a seat here was challenging as many of the cabins were full. She looked left and right until her neck was sore, not to mention the luggage she had to drag. Once she found an empty cabin, she made a victorious โHah!โ before placing her luggage on the racks.
โFather!โ
Blythe exclaimed as she peered out the window in search of her father. The train had begun to move, and she couldnโt get a glimpse of her father waving. The jolt from the train managed to knock her back into the seat, but Blythe immediately turned towards the window again.
โFather?โ
She took one last glance in an attempt to find her father, who was likely drowning in the sea of the crowd. Blytheโs grin faded quickly as the train left the station, the further away the more she frowned. The view outside didnโt please her, if anything, it made her frustrated. After all, this was her first time being in the wizard world all alone. As much as she despises it, she was overwhelmed.

Goodbye To A World
Clark stood beside Finlay at Platform 9 ยพ, his grip thight around the handle of his big heavy suitcase as the noise of the crowded platform pressed in on him. Voices overlapped, luggage rolled across the ground, owls hooted from their cages, everything felt to loud. It felt suffocating, to Clark. Suffocating to an edge, his free hand, came to play with the rings on his other hand, a habit he developed over the years, when he felt overwhelmed. He shifted ever so slightly, shoulders drawing in, his eyes moving unfocused from one figure to another.__________________________________

Next to Clark stood Finlay, his neighbour, looking rather unfazed. He had to come with Clark, because ofcourse his parents didnโt make it. Again. They probably were in another country having a new order or something. Or they simply didnโt care. about all of this. about the Clarks departure to Hogwarts. As if it wasnโt important, because Clark could imagine that to them it wasnโt.
A familiar voice finally snatched Clark out of his thoughts.
He looked up at the face of Finlay, What did he say? Clark didnโt know it.
"Come on",Finlay said, already moving.
Clark looked at the man, before adjusting the strap of his bag, and shifted the weight of the handle from his suitcase in his hand, and than glanced towards the train. The Hogwarts Express stood waiting, steam drifting through the air, the door already open.
Clark than began to follow Finlay, through the crowds of people. He stopped when Finlay stopped. He had pointed through a window into a rather empty looking cabin, expect for a girl at the window.
"If you hurry, you can sit in this cabin.", Finlay said, as he looked at Clark, before pointing to the door, that lead into the train. Clark just stared at the window. The mere thought of going inside was making his palms sweat. But he had no choice but to do so, because that was probably the only cabin that was rather empty. He let out a sigh and nodded.
Finlay helped him to to store his suitcases into a scheduled luggage compartment, before pulling the boy into one last hug.
Clark just whispered a short โgoodbyeโ towards Finlay, before pulling away, and walking up the stairs into the train. As he stepped inside the train, he froze. The narrow corridors were crowded, students squeezing past each other, dragging trunks, calling out for friends. He hated such moments. He hated the thought of having physical touch with the other ones. But he had to sit down eventually, before the train took off. So he began to move carefully, keeping close to the wall, his hands gripping his bag thightly, while looking out for the cabin Finlay had pointed out earlier.
After a while he found it, and opened the door, His eyes locked onto the girl in it. For a while he just stared at her, his mouth suddenly being dry, and no words were forming on his tongue. The only thing grounding him were the thight grip on his bag.
"U-Uh can I sit here..? Or are the other seats taken?",Clark rasped out after some time, and just stared at the unkown girl infront of him.

The quiet was deafening, only the sound of train engines and wind could be heard, until a certain someone arrived. A boy, around her age, opened the cabin door with a bag in his hand. It seems like he had been squeezing himself through crowded halls before arriving here. He stood by the door in silence, gripping his bag tightly. Blytheโs initial reaction was to furrow her eyebrows in sight of the newcomer, watching him stand there attempting to form a sentence. None of them spoke, leaving an awkward pause.
"U-Uh can I sit here..? Or are the other seats taken?"
The boy croaked his question, waiting for her response. Blythe took a moment to process his question, taking a glance at the seat in front of her and back at the boy. It took her a while before making a decision.
โUh, yeah. Be my guest.โ
The girl waved at the seat in front of her, allowing him to take the seat for the trip. She waits for him to settle down for the ride, scanning the view from the window once he has. Silence fell yet again as Blythe took time to swallow her uneasiness, forehead pressed against the window, feeling the tingly sensation from the trainโs vibrations. The green landscapes ultimately calm her, absentmindedly watching the world outside as she continues to simmer down. Finally, she has realized how grumpy she mustโve looked at the moment. With an amused scoff, she took her forehead off the window and rubbed the itch away. It might be a good idea to start a conversation to further drown the anxiety away.
โSo-โ
She started, facing the boy across her with a curious grin on her face. Thereโs still a lasting dejection in her eyes, although itโll eventually fade away at some point.
โ-First day? Er, whatโs your name?โ
Noticing how the boy seemed quiet, maybe introverted, her grin softens a little in an attempt to match the mood. Personally, Blythe found her attempts pitiful, since she usually makes great first impressions. Funny, how tense the cabin felt as of now.

Goodbye To A World
Clark hesitated for a moment. For a moment after the girl spoke, his fingers thightening slightly around the strap of his bag again. The simple '๐ฑ๐ ๐๐ข ๐๐๐๐๐' felt heavier than it should have, like it required more from him than just stepping forward.__________________________________เผบMention(s): @Blythe GallagherเผปเผบWord Count: 340เผป__________________________________
"....thanks.", he muttered quietly, his voice still a little uneven.
Clark set a step into the cabin, closing the door behind himself, and than slid into the seat across from her. His shoulders relaxed slightly as the noises from the corridor dulled, fading into the background of his consciousness. Even if they were still there, they were distant enough, for Clark to finally breathe freely.
Clark sat his bag down next to him, his hands lingering on it longer than necessary, before he let the strap go, and folded his hands in his lap. He began to fidget with the rings on his hand, turning one slightly, grounding himself, in the familiar motion of the rings between his fingers. His gaze flickered up briefly, meeting hers for only a second before drifting toward the window. The landscape was just a blurry motion of green and brownish colors, that passed them at a rapid speed. The reality of the situation finally sank in. Yes it was his first day away from home. His first day at Hogwarts just loomed over his head.
"Ah...uh...yes it's my first day." There was a pause again, not quite as heavy as before, but still present, that still weighed heavily on his shoulders. Clark hated such pauses with no speek in it, even if he was mostly the cause of it. The one that didnโt continue the conversation. He shifted slightly, shoulders drawn in just a little, like he was tryng to take up as less space as he could.
Than his eyes moved back to the girl, more carefully this time.
"My name is Clark...Clark Stellan."
It came out rather choppy, no extra words.
He hesitated again, then added, quieter this time. "You?"

She tilts her head at the question, processing his question for a surprisingly long time. Once she realized, she exclaimed.
โBlythe Gallagher. Call me, Blythe.โ
The girl answered, then fell back into an awkward silence as she failed to form any other sentences. Weird, typically sheโd be more talkative than this, was it because of the transition between the Muggle and wizard world? Either way, sheโs not giving up that easily. Determined, she opened her mouth to speak.
โRight, Clark.โ
She called his name, stopping for a second to think of a conversation. Her expression grimaces, sucking air through gritted teeth. She scratches the back of her head in thought, humming softly. This was much more challenging than she expected.
โUhโฆ howโs your day?โ
That was the only conversation starter she could think of. The only sound heard was the muffled noise from outside, Blythe ran a hand down her face over her own words. Her gaze went blank as the gears in her head were turned, thinking, thinking, and thinking.
โAre you excited? About the wizarding school and all.โ
Blythe followed, adding more to her question in an attempt to make a fluent conversation. A fluent conversation would be challenging.

Clark just sat on his seat looking over at the girl, who just introduced herself as Blythe, her question hanging in the air between the two. He repeated her name quietly, in his head, to get a taste of the name. Than he cleared his throat.
"...Blythe.", he said again, a bit clearer this time.
His fingers still move over the smooth metal bands on his fingers, turning them, as he thought. The question about his day made him pause longer than expected. Heโd glance over at the window for the brief of a second, looking at the fast-moving blur outside, as if searching the answer out there.
"Well it has beenโฆa lot.โ, he admitted finally. "Everything feels a bit too fast, you know?โ, he let out a breath, some energy draining out of his body. "But honestly that normal right? First day at hogwarts after all.โ
There was a small pause afterwards, but for Clark it didnโt feel as suffocating as before.
When Blythe asked if he was excited, Clark titled his head and gave this question a thought before giving his answer.
"Maybeโฆ I mean its a big dayโฆMy neighbour Finlay told me a lot about his first day, about how excited he wasโฆit sounded nice.โ Clark began. He stopped for a mlment, recalling the time Finlay told him about his time at hogwarts. Clark remembered that he stopped paying attention when Finlay had reached a point where he would talk about all the pranks he aparently did. He than continued talking."I mean it still feels a bit strange for me. Yes I have been waiting for this for a long timeโฆbut I feel more curiosity than excitment.โ
His fingers stopped moving for a second, then resumed, slower now.
"I wonderโฆIf Iโll fit there. Into hogwarts.โ
The last part came out, more softer than intended, as if it wasnโt meant to be heared.
Clark shifted slightly in his seat, than looked back at Blythe again.
"What about you?โ, he asked. "You seemโฆa bit more sure about this whole thing than I am.โ

Goodbye To A World

Once Blythe finished asking, Clark began talking. She noticed he fidgeted a lot with the item in his hand, likely a habit. His long pause made her somewhat concerned, but it wasnโt long enough to make her downright anxious about disturbing him or anything. Blythe isnโt exactly fond of ticking off quiet people, after all.
Blythe listened attentively as Clark answered her questions. She nods occasionally when he explains himself, how he feels, and his thoughts about Hogwarts. The mention of a neighbor named Finlay poked curiosity, does he spend a lot of time with his neighbors?
โYour neighbor graduated from Hogwarts?โ
She asks without a second thought, just purely curious. Blythe lets him continue speaking, leaning her head on the window as she did. His answer so far was understandable, she even empathised with him. It was true, everything does feel a bit too fast. When he asks if heโll fit into Hogwarts, she doesn't comment on it, though she assumes he would fit in just fine. Heck, maybe she even envied that. Just maybe.
It was all going well, but she was about to admit that she found the whole ordeal suffocating her. That is, until he asks about her. He found her more sure about this whole thing? Thatโs new.
โYeah, like a soldier sent to war. Am I right?โ
Blythe was seen without a grin for a nanosecond, isnโt that awkward? Her answer came out too fast, almost like a person lying. Actually, scratch that, itโs possible she is lying. Lifting her head off the window, sitting with her knees apart and resting her head on her palm. The grin returns, just slightly weaker.
โWait, actually, let me rephrase thatโฆ Me? I think itโll all be alright. A few bumps here and there, but Iโll be fine. Iโll do great!โ
Blythe lied, in return, she internally got even more anxious. She shouldnโt have lied, but that would cause her ego to admit she is afraid.
โWe got a whole world to see! A whole school to explore. Whatโs not to enjoy? Sure Iโll be far from home, far from everything Iโm used to, far from what I loveโฆ Far from everything I call normal.โ
She pauses, tapping her foot anxiously as she huffs. It wasnโt really a good idea to lie while being so overwhelmed. So, she decided to just be honest about it. There no point trying to lie when sheโll expose herself at some point.
โโฆ Maybe I am afraid.โ
