It was Easter Sunday, and after visiting the church, Maria and Valen di Angelo had decided to go to Diagon Alley so they'd be able to get their daughter a cat. Marcella was home for the Easter holidays. No matter the amount of time Marcella visits Diagon Alley, she would never be able to take in all the wonders it holds. She was so excited to finally be able to get a cat. She's always wanted one ever since she was a child. She admired them so much, their stealth, their elegance, and their chaotic calm.
Magical Menagerie is tucked midway down Diagon Alley in London, its storefront unmistakable even from afar. The windows of this pet shop are crowded with enchanted cages, aquariums, and terrariums stacked in careful disarray. Some vessels glow softly. Other tanks fog with breath from within. Occasionally, something tapped against the glass from the inside. Marcella stared in awe.
There was a painted sign above the door that depicts a procession of magical creatures: kneazles, owls, puffskeins, and stranger silhouettes whose identities are less obvious. The Magical Menagerie hosts numerous pet animals, among them a few exotic options. Cages line the walls from floor to ceiling, while tanks and pens occupy the centre of the shop. Enchantments keep predators calm, prey safe, and customers unbitten... most of the time.
The family of three entered the shop. Suddenly, a cat jumped on Marcella, startling her. "Marcy!" her parents screamed in unison. Marcella held the cat at arm's length so she'd be able to get a good look at her. She was a black cat with beautiful green eyes. Love swelled in her chest. "Can I have her?" she asked the shopkeeper.
The shopkeeper nodded and told her that no one wanted the cat. No one even named her! How outrageous! Her parents paid a generous sum of money for the cat. "I'll call her Talia." Talia snuggled against her hand, licking it softly. Cats are very delicate beings, and Marcella was happy that Talia chose her. Apparently, no one wanted to buy her as everyone thought she was unlucky. But Marcella strongly believed
that no being in the universe is unlucky. They're only thought that way due to humans. The shopkeepers, who were an old couple with smiling faces and white hair, loved Talia with their entire hearts. They had taken care of her when no one else wanted to, and they were very happy when Marcella had decided to get Talia. They refused money, but Marcella's parents insisted on paying them. They were kind and funny; it's rare to find people like that these days.
