Did Someone Order Revenge?
This roleplay takes place on March 8th, 2020, but will reference February 29th, 2020 during which "Hurried Mistakes" took place simultaneously alongside "Observations of a Slacker"; the former being about the first interaction between @Ross Stephens and @Flash Holmwood in a Potions class together while the latter consists of Jack Burnett's thoughts and observations on their interaction while it happens.
It was around noon when students piled into the Great Hall in between classes for their lunch time. Jack had been waiting patiently, keeping an eye out for a specific, brown-haired Hufflepuff first year boy with a timid-seeming demeanor. Hoping to intercept the kid before he had a chance to sit down among his fellow badgers, the redheaded Slytherin brisquely power-walked in an attempt to intercept him on his path. It was difficult enough for Jack to resolve himself to try to have a friendly-ish conversation with a Hufflepuff. He wasn't about to sit with a whole table of them just to converse with one in particular. Besides, it probably wasn't a conversation that said Hufflepuff wanted to have with a good many people around to hear, either.
"Hello!" he greeted, a huge grin on his face that might have been a tad too broad to mean anything but trouble. However, when thinking of the previous events he hoped to discuss with the Hufflepuff, he just couldn't relax his face. It almost seeemed like all he could do not to laugh. "You're Ross Stephens, right? I'm Jack Burnett. It seems you and I have a mutual aquaintance - Flash Holmwood?" He cocked his head. "He's actually my dorm mate."
Sliding onto the seat of an empty table, he gestured with an arm, bidding Ross to sit. "My condolences for what Flash did to you," Jack began in a quiet voice, shaking his head at the tabletop in order to conceal his face until he could get his amused grin under control. "I've mixed up a book filled with my personal notes, too. Luckily, it was with a dorm mate - not Flash - so I could talk him into giving it back to me eventually, but I just wanted you to know that I'm familiar with how it feels to have something like that held over your head."
He was promptly able to remove all traces of humor from his expression as he recalled his own desperation to get back the book that Oliver Averill had been so determined to keep from him. "I mean, it could have been worse. My other dorm mate - also not Flash - helped me out, but then I owed him a favor and he wanted to know the secrets of my book in exchange. I was only fortunate he didn't seem to have any interest in using them against me."
Jack peered up curiously at Ross. "Have you been able to get your diary back from Holmwood yet? Or at least heard from him? If I recall correctly, it's been just a day over a week since he first took it from you."

Did Someone Order Revenge?
The week had been enough of an arduous undertaking for the Hufflepuff to still feel burdened at the end of a long day. His only goal to survive supper was to make his way to the Hufflepuff table. He would snag himself a bottle of pumpkin juice if he could, but it was an autumn treasure. The chances were low he would be able to seize one. His best bet would be to steal his regular spot at his house's table where he knew well nobody would bother to approach him. What had made Ross' week a living nightmare was rather evident to those who knew, which Ross had assumed was just one horrid Slytherin. To Ross' dismay, that number of Slytherins had already been doubled
After the incident, Ross had tried to keep a low profile. He had always heard to keep one's head low. so that was what he was quite literally doing. Perhaps that was why the messy haired boy was so startled when an unfamiliar voice proceeded to greet him. He practically broke his neck as his posture seemed to shoot up.
"Hi!" The boy exclaimed instinctively, almost as if he had fallen asleep in a class and he was answering to a teacher.
The voice told him well that he had no clue who this boy was. The first thing the startled boy noticed was the boy's smile and their red hair. Their hair was a much more fiery red than Mildred, a familiar Hufflepuff he knew well; however, both types of red were fairly noticeable. He would have to remember the strange smile and the hair together just to be able to remember him in the future if he was ever forced to meet him once more. With his entire brain being taken up with worry and potions knowledge he swore he hardly had room for names.
"Yep, that's me erm.. Ross. Ross Stephens. Nice to meet ya'." he clarified, as that nervous laugh of his found its way back to him once more.
It was funny. He was the one that normally introduced himself. Most people never even heard of him when his friends were to mention him in conversations, so this was certainly a new experience. New was often fun, but as soon as he heard Flash's name it turned into much more of a worrying experience in his mind. While his chest did an Olympic somersault, he had hardly time to overthink as the red-head continued speaking. His eyes only widened with the realization that they were dorm mates. It only clicked just then in his head that the boy was a Slytherin. Did all Slytherins know each other or something?
He was gestured to an empty seat, in which Ross hesitantly complied. It was still somewhat like instinct to him either way. It would be quite rude to ignore an offer to sit after all, even if it was by someone who would likely steal his kidneys if they had the chance. Even so, Ross was curious what this snake's deal was. It was curiosity that still shined through in the worst times, and it really showed that if he was born a couple 2.6 million years ago then it would either end up in him killed due to natural selection or the other way around.
"You.. You know? Wait, His name is Flash?" the Hufflepuff blurted out, covering his mouth with haste as if somehow the words could get him in trouble. He steadily lowered his hands down back under the table. "But... how? I didn't.. I didn't think..." he mumbled, trying to put his head around the concept.
He knew Flash was the worst, but he never considered him to be the worstest. He never took him for the type of guy to just tell anyone about a situation. It seemed too reckless, or maybe it was the other way around? Ross had no clue what he was doing, and perhaps Flash did not either.
He snapped back out of his own thought process as the boy spoke of their dorm mates. At least he was being open, and not someone he just wished would be sent into the Forbidden Forest. He respected more open people, though it made him less curious. Still, he seemed to ease into a bit more of his own comfort as the Slytherin spoke. Even so, it was quite clear they were still tense. Then again, most people would be in his shoes; however, most people would probably never be in his shoes to begin with.
"Erm.. that sounds rough, but it's good nothin' came of it?" he added in some attempt to figure out what they wanted from him. "Hold up, how many dorm mates do ya got?" he inquired, realizing there was a complicated amount that he might need to keep up with.
Soon, the topic shifted back onto his issues. He found it rather peculiar how he knew the exact days. Under the table, Ross was bending his fingers in order to check if the Slytherin was accurate. To Ross' shock, he was. At the same time, Ross was thinking of how lying would do himself no good. The only thing he could lie about is asking his insistent questions to make himself come off in a better light, but if Flash had told him then the ginger would clearly know. He was more of a victim in this than anything was his own belief, so coming out with the truth really could only help his story. The Hufflepuff let out a dramatic sigh, looking rather pathetic.
"He 'asn't..., I gotta wait til' later so I can get those O's." he admitted, sounding defeated.
The boy lifted his head a little as an idea hit his mind.
"Say, you're his roomie right? Could ya get it back?" he inquired, his hopes fixing themselves together once more.
