Look, when Corrine had gotten her letter and saw that Transfiguration was one of the subjects that was being taught there, she didn’t know what to think. Immediately, Corrine could only imagine that it must be some kind of.. morphing. A way to change one’s appearance or form, or at least somewhat akin to it. Nevertheless, she had been excited and looked forward to actually being in the class.
And now it’s the actual first day, and Corrine had arrived a bit early after her Herbology class had ended.
..Not early enough to arrive in a classroom with few students, though. Instead, Corrine had come just three minutes before the class’s dedicated time slot, which meant that the moment she came through that door, several heads either turned or lifted to look at her. She freezes in place, immediately feeling overwhelmed as her eyes dart around frantically.
The back is almost all but taken up, considering most students didn’t want to sit too close to the teacher’s desk. It’s a bit of a shame, considering she didn’t want to be in the teacher’s immediate view either.. but what could she do?
Instead, her eyes turn to the middle of the room. There’s a really pretty girl sitting there, and to Corrine’s absolute surprise, the seat next to her is empty.
Corrine hesitates. Would it be too presumptuous of her to think she could come forward and ask to sit next to her? What if the girl says no? What if the girl is actually really mean?
However, with only one glance at the front.. where she already knew the teacher could set their eyes on her easily, she made up her mind. Corrine meekly walks forward to step just beside the girl, averting her eyes slightly.
“Hello,” she greets, her stutter obvious, “Could I.. sit next to you?”

♡♡♡♡♡♡It was actually a quite lovely day. Spring was finally coming around to be nicer. It’s too bad she didn’t have flying class or at least something close to the outdoors today. But today, she had something just as interesting. Transfiguration. Something that Riley actually found a challenge. You see, to transform something, you need lots of concentration. That was easier said than done, though. I mean, Riley’s brain was like a fast-moving river, flowing with thoughts and ideas. Especially during transfiguration, because it was so interesting. But Riley would try her best.
She and arrived a bit early, so she was catching up on some notes from her charms class. It was actually quite peaceful. There was a sort of quiet murmur, but other than the low chatter of her classmates, it was serene. Perfect for catching up on homework. Maybe even as calm as the common room.
Riley looked around a bit, scanning her surroundings. Almost everyone’s attention snapped to one person, though, as another girl walked in. She had that Riley seemed to recognize. She was really pretty. I wish I looked like that…her freckles are actually pretty. She thought to herself. Riley didn’t seem to know how gorgeous she truly was. To Riley, her freckles and her usually wavy hair were imperfections. But they were what made Riley her.
She quickly realized that she girl that had walked in was the one she had met at the owlery a few weeks back. Corrine, I think… Riley wondered. Riley didn’t realize that she had spotted her, and was approaching. Riley slid her notes into her satchel and smiled. ”Hi… Can I sit with you?” She asked, revealing her familiar, soft voice. Riley nodded quickly. ”Of course! Corrine, right?”

Corrine could only sigh in relief as the girl in front of her readily agreed to her request with a kind smile, one that she realized she found familiar. But from where. . ? The girl wondered to herself as she tried not to let her stare linger for too long on the other’s pretty face, instead opting to sit down and put her satchel to the side quietly. Then, as soon as she’s situated, her hazel eyes trailed over to continue inspecting in a hopefully conspicuous manner.
No doubt that the girl was pretty, after all, her features were truly refined. Corrine doesn’t always remember things well, but faces have always been hard to forget, so where did she recognize this girl? She tried to think back to the places she’d visited for the past two weeks since class started. There were the classrooms, the courtyard, her dorms, the library.. as well as the owl room.
It finally clicked in her head as she perked up. This was the girl she hadn’t initially seen when she had sent her first letter back to her family! And, unlike her, it seemed that the girl actually recognized her way quicker, based on the smile on her face. Embarrassed, Corrine averted her eyes, shrinking into her seat. “I’m sorry,” she frantically apologized. “Your name.. It’s..”
For a beat, she struggled to remember. “It’s Riley, right. . ? The girl from the owlery some time ago. I’m sorry, I didn’t immediately recognize you.” Not like it was any fault of Riley’s, anyway, as she wasn’t at all forgettable in any shape or form. Corrine just had a flawed memory when it came to immediate recognition.
