Possible Pranks
Fake bugs in...something
Steal robes while sleeping?
Ink in toothpaste? CLASSIC
Dungbombs? How do you EVEN???
Charlie Cutting stared at the short list he had written and sighed. "I used to be so good at this..." he thought to himself, looking at the disappointing compilation. Of course that was when he had a plethora of muggle technology at his disposal to aid him in his hijinks, but technology didn't work at Hogwarts, which severely limited his capabilities. And it wasn't as if he had learned any magic yet that he could have fun with to make up for it. All he had was a sad, short list of 'old reliables', with the newest edition of 'dungbombs', which he still hadn't quite figured out how to use yet, mostly because he didn't have any of his own. This was what his pranking expertise had come to. If only his sisters could see him now...
But he needed to prank someone, someone very specific. A certain member of his house who always looked down at him with disdain for failing to answer the riddles, to be exact. It wasn't as if Charlie never tried, he simply wasn't a riddles guy - or a school guy in general as he thought about his housepoints - but unfortunately, answering riddles was the only way to get into Ravenclaw Tower. There just so many of them, and they were constantly changing. And while this person certainly wasn't the only one of his peers who viewed him as 'the dumb one', Charlie would have hoped one of his own roommates would at least pretend not to be rude about it. But alas, no - they couldn't all be nice - and so, Charlie believed, he needed to be taught a lesson.
Which is what had brought him to this very moment in the courtyard, sitting on the edge of the fountain, as a cool gust of wind blew through. After weeks of being looked at like he didn't belong, of eye rolls from other Ravenclaws who had to answer the riddles for him, of whispers as he walked through the common room, Charlie Cutting had decided that he had enough. His pranks had always been in good fun before, but now... The wind ruffled up his parchment for the slightest moment, blowing the top of the sheet up to his knee, before continuing on through, the parchment settling back down as the wind left. It was an early sign that autumn would soon begin to fade into winter in the coming weeks. Hogwarts would soon be growing colder, the sky would become grayer.
"How do you prank a wizard?" he asked himself under his breath, staring intently at embarrassing list he had going so far. Setting his quill down on the parchment (and accidentally smudging the word "classic") he brought his hands up to temples, rubbing them with the heels of his palms. "I wonder if I have any poppers..."

A Tale of Two Houses
Being outside was both a blessing and a curse at the same time. It meant she didn't have any lessons to contend with in a stuffy classroom or listen to a professor drone on and on about tedious work that she couldn't bring herself to be excited over. She knew, this was the opportunity of a lifetime and she shouldn't squander it, but History of Magic? No thank you! To many it was a fascinating study, learning how spells came into existence and the witches and wizards who created them. For the Hufflepuff, she couldn't be more disinterested. Names, facts and figures went over her head and jumbled up with famous potioneers and herbologists. She had tried to read a textbook once, curled up on a cosy armchair in front of the fireplace in the Hufflepuff Common Room. She read the first line about Edwin the ninth who started an ogre war in 1432 at least twenty five times until the numbers swam on the page in front of her. Or was it 1723. Was his name even Edwin? Was he even an ogre?
The bitter winds sent her teeth chattering, causing the blonde to pull her robes that little bit tighter around herself as she persevered. Being outdoors was likely going to make her ill, but she needed some fresh air and to escape the over-heated Common Room. Neil was nowhere in sight, and Merlin knew where Lilia was these days. As such she ventured out alone, the grounds a relatively quiet place. Not many students ventured out into the cold, giving her free reign of the grassy knoll before her. Taking off at high speed she raced down one area and was able to begin her descent to another when she noticed a figure in the near distance. Normally that wouldn't be too surprising considering the population of students at Hogwarts, but this weather had driven everyone indoors, only the reckless and insane were braving it. As such she determined to meet this seemingly like-minded soul to see if maybe they could befriend one another and give her another playmate when her two companions were otherwise occupied as they seemingly were at present.
Wait. He was writing? And reading? "Oh no. He showed so much promise, too!" she sighed, still intending on asking him why he was outside. Doing homework outside probably wasn't the best thing to do bearing the winds in mind, although how could a professor argue against a natural disaster? 'Sorry professor, I did the homework but the wind blew it away!' It was fairly ingenious if she did say so herself! "You probably shouldn't be doing homework out here...they have a library for that if you're in the writing mood. It's full of all these books and clever people things! I've never actually been myself but I've been told." Liv exclaimed, indicating the parchment he had been working on, her nose wrinking as she mentioned the library. Perhaps she ought to spend more time in there, but the Hufflepuff just could not motivate herself to sit in a room with enforced silence permeating the atmosphere. The rigidness caused her to rebel which had a knock-on effect to her ability to learn and pick up new information. "Wait. Did you say poppers? As in those kid's toy things? I haven't seen them in ages." She briefly allowed herself to reminsce before swivelling her head back to him. "What do you need poppers for? There's probably a spell you can learn that does the same thing!"

A Tale of Two Houses
"You probably shouldn't be doing homework out here..."
The sudden voice caused Charlie took look up from his parchment, not quite realizing at first that it had been talking to him. That was until he saw the Hufflepuff girl he recognized from class. He thought Liz was her name - or maybe it was Lynn? - though he couldn't be entirely sure. What he was sure of was that he wasn't doing homework. Anyone who knew him well enough would know that. Homework, classwork, paying attention during lessons, they weren't his thing, and if he were doing any of those, he would be in his dorm or common room, not out in the courtyard. But in Ravenclaw Tower, he could be seen by his roommate, and the trick would be ruined. "What trick?" he thought, remembering the pathetic list at his knee.
"Wait. Did you say poppers? As in those kid's toy things? I haven't seen them in ages. What do you need poppers for? There's probably a spell you can learn that does the same thing!"
A spell would take far too long. He'd have to research it, learn it, practice it. And besides, a spell wouldn't work for what he had in mind with the poppers. "It's nothing really. Just wanting to have a bit of fun with a roommate is all." He purposefully omitted some details, such as the prank and how it involved said poppers being placed under a toilet seat. "Hey aren't you in my potions class?" he asked, trying to distract her from her question and the list he'd written out. But then something she'd said caught his attention. She knew what poppers - a muggle invention - were. "Wait a minute, did you say that you know what those are? Are you muggleborn too?" Of course muggleborns couldn't have been too few and far between, but the majority of his classmates he had met thus far had all grown up in the magical world.

A Tale of Two Houses
It seemed she had distracted the boy who seemed baffled enough by her presence. It was probably fair. The weather was cold, there was plenty to do indoors and yet here they both were braving mother nature for a breath of fresh air. Her mum wasn't a fan of sitting in front of the tv, so sent the blonde out to enjoy playing on the street with the neighbourhood children. Even though she had no constant companion to explore with, she enjoyed finding backstreets and undiscovered trails to parks to keep herself occupied. As long as she was home for dinner and did some homework she was easily pleased with her daughter, which suited Liv fine. She was never going to pull in the top grades and was never going to have the most friends, but as long as she pleased someone in her life it was all that truly mattered to her. The fact that there were no expectations was both a blessing and a curse. If she didn't want to study, she didn't have to. If she wanted to spend hours poring over celebrity magazines and wandering around the local area she could and nobody would express any disappointment. She wasn't going to chastised over poor grades because she wasn't hounded to get decent marks in her lessons. In fact she was encouraged to have fun and enjoy herself. Unfortunately that did nothing to further her knowledge and understanding of the subjects she took but she strove hard to improve her own understanding of her natural environment. Classrooms were distinctly not her strong suit.
Being here, in a magical setting, where she was subjected to new subjects her brain was already playing catch-up to those students who had always known magic and had parents who instilled a good work ethic in them and an understanding of the world in which they lived. She didn't blame her parents for their more laidback mentality, but it lended to her own poor work ethic and gave her more reasons not to pore over her textbooks and wile away the hours taking notes and furthering her own knowledge. It allowed her to become lazy and unfocused which wasn't going to work for spellcasting and learning about magical plants or creatures. It was probably the reason why she still couldn't master the spells she was supposed to be learning, and why her broom still refused to do anything more than roll over repeatedly upon the ground. Understanding it was one thing, though. Fighting through the frustration when she didn't get her own way was something else. The broom was clearly faulty. As was the next one. And the next. She didn't even think her wand worked! It was probably sold to her defunct hence why she couldn't perform any spells yet despite the effort she put in during the lessons. A broken wand could explain so many of her troubles. Yes. She was going to have to take a trip to that wand shop place and speak to the owner to resolve the issue.
"Just be careful not to blow anything up! I don't know if the Headmaster will be impressed if he has to replace anything. I can't get a feel for whether he ever cracks a smile or not. I'm going for not. What do you think? You know I don't know if my own Head of House has much of a sense of humour either! He's pretty strict." she replied as he mentioned his roommate. Poppers were lots of fun, and she had used them aplenty, but whether or not they were suitable for using in a magical school remained to be seen. She watched him, her eyes sparkling, until he mentioned Potions and she groaned involuntarily. "Uh...probably. Yes? I don't know?" she answered as honestly as she could. "I usually spend my classes trying not to melt my cauldron. I've gone through at least 8 so far! I just don't think Potions are my strong suit." What her strong suit was remained to be seen, but she wasn't going to admit that to a perfect stranger, even if his use of poppers made him instantly rise several places in her estimation. "Yes I-- oh. No. I- My dad's a wizard. Technically anyway. He's not so great at magic and mum's a muggle so we've lived in the muggle world for a long time. Mum doesn't like magic. She didn't want me to come but...here I am!" Liv widened her smile to try and indicate that it wasn't a sore point for her and that she was happy to be here when she suddenly remembered the parchment he had been holding. "Was that a Potions assignment you were holding? If you want to feel inspired you probably need to hole up in the library." She knew there was a library here even if she didn't know where it was. Chances were this boy know where to find it. He looked intelligent anyway!

A Tale of Two Houses
"Just be careful not to blow anything up!" the girl had said, and it made him have to hold in a small chuckle. On the one hand, Charlie would never imagine causing permanent destruction to someone or someone's property in a prank, they should only be in good fun, and even the revenge ones shouldn't be too mean-spirited. One the other hand however, he could be so lucky to pull something that extreme, at least his roommate would think twice before messing with him again. Still though, nothing he had in mind would blow anything up, though it may make someone think their toilet seat had blown up underneath them. "No worries there, I'm much to nice to destroy something," he said with a phony, innocent grin. "Well, beyond the point of repair that is."
The girl then answered his question about them being in potions together, though in truth, Charlie hardly paid attention. It had just been an attempt to try and steer the conversation to make the girl stop talking about poppers. Even though they seemed to be for the most part alone, the girl's voice definitely carried, and the last thing he had needed were questions to answer from a prefect, or worse. Still, while not paying it much mind, he got the gist, the girl was bad at potions, something of which Charlie could relate. Potions wasn't his best class either, though he supposed it could be fair and accurate to use "not my best class" as a blanket statement. As of yet, he hadn't found a "best class". She then talked about her family, and how even though her father was a wizard, she'd grown up mostly in the muggle world. At least that explained how she knew what poppers were. Were he not trying to conceal his list and get back to it quickly, he'd likely have plenty of questions for the girl. For starters, he hadn't met anyone yet who had one magical and one muggle parent. Most of those he'd met so far had been purebloods. And he also wondered why her mother wouldn't wish for her to attend Hogwarts, as if muggle schooling had been any better. But these would be questions for another time.
"Was that a potions assignment you were holding? If you want to feel inspired you probably need to hole up in the library."
"What this?" he asked, looking down at the list, folding it quickly in half. "No, this is nothing. It's just a personal... silly... side project thing. Really nothing to worry about or wonder about or know about at all. But if I need to study, I know just where to go: the library, where the books live. So thank you, uh... you..."
Charlie rose from his seat on the fountain's edge, and another gust of wind blew through the courtyard, grabbing his sheet and blowing it up into the air. Charlie tried to grab for it, but the page blew higher, escaping the short Ravenclaw's grasp.
