I did not want to do cleaning today. Really, I didn't. It was all Miss Townsend's fault.
Well, not entirely. She just showed up one day to class sneezing like her life was on it and, the following days, some students here and there started sneezing, too. I thought it was a cold, so I tried to avoid them as much as I could.
Until my eyes also started aching and crying one random day. And I decided enough is enough. So, in my free day, once I finished my homeworks, I decided to vut this whole thing by the root.
I had seen a few students lifting up some pink and purple fur out of nowhere, and I knew exactly what was going on. After an exhaustive investigation I did last night cause my eyes kept itching, I found out that the fur was from nothing more and nothing less than... pigmys! Those cute, little hairballs were definitely a headache. Or well, in my case, an eyeache.
So I started tracking the fur. It started in the corner of one of the shelves from the library, next to one of the big windows. I counted the window and then walked out of the castle. counting the library windows from outside until I got the one I had seen from the inside. I ran my fingers through the crystal and...
Eureka. Fur.
And, by the state, the responsible must have been here last night, as much. Knowing where to start the track, I came back to the castle, hoping to see the cleaning elves. I was not going to risk them, I was just going to ask them a little favor. I crossed paths with one of them, and asked her for a bucket. I knew the small cleaning I was about to do was going to be easier if I did it the muggle way.
With the bucket in my hand, I came back to the window. And then, I started picking up the fur. A pink one, another pink one, a purple one, pink, purple, purple... It seemed to be a pack of them, but where? The track that began at the window of the library quickly extended to the grounds of Hogwarts, the lake, the shore of the Forbidden Forest, and the courtyard. When I looked at my clock, I noticed I had already missed lunch! It took me three hours, and I was sweaty, my eyes itched and I felt tired.
But most of all, I felt excited.
Finally, I arrived to the Boathouse, where the fur seemed to come from. I knew the boats were only used for the arrival and departs of Hogwarts, and in cases of severe, extreme urgency. The boats seemed to be well-cared, considering how many time it had passed since the last time they were used. So why was one of the boats turned upside down?
I took my wand, leaving the bucket on the ground. What if this was someone bad? Hiding? I swallowed and, with all my courage, I lifted the boat and...
The pigmeys looked back at me.
A family of pigmeys was hiding into the boat! Well, that made sense. That explained why there were so many little furs all around the castle, and why they all lead here.
I decided to let them be. They were definitely in a bad place, at a bad time, and they had to get out of here. But I'd leave it to the teachers. For now, I was very, very hungry.
I picked up the bucket again and, pretending none of this had happened at all, I walked back to the castle. I left the bucket with some elves, washed my hands and went to eat something. I was starving.
After a well-deserved night of sleep, the first thing I did next morning was report the pigmy family to Miss Townsend. Maybe she could talk to the Care of Magical Creatures teacher, and do something about the little family. By now, my work here was done. And I got into a conclussion: If I ever had a pet, it would definitely not be a pigmy. Until today, my eyes still itch. Maybe the boat family wasn't the only one around Hogwarts, after all...
"I was good. I was really good"
