Writing Eases the Mind
Annie had been sitting in the library earlier unsure of what to do. She was bored and when she had nothing to do she became anxious. The girl glanced outside and an idea popped in her head. The Hufflepuff stood up and left the library and swiftly walked down a few corridors and up some stairs until she got to the West tower and poked her head into the Owlery.Private thread with @James Cadwell
From there many owls' heads turned towads her at her entrance but she heard a familiar hoot and spotted her little friend. She put him in his transportation cage unsure if she could take him out of the owlery without a cage. Annie carefully closed the door shut and retraced her steps, past the library until she was outside in the Courtyard.
With a relived sigh she set Eiryk's cage on the ground and she sat down on the ground with her legs folded. She unlocked his cage and let him roam freely for a bit until he decided to snuggle up on her shoulder and nap. Annie gave a small chuckle and quietly pulled out a letter, a quill and a small ink glass to not disturb her owl whom was already fast asleep, puffed up so his feathers could absorb the sun's heat and keep him warm.
She brought her legs to her chest and bit at her lip unsure of where to start. Finally deciding to address her letter to her mom, whom she hadn't talked to all year besides a few snip bits of grades. The Hufflepuff blew her wispy bangs from her face and dipped her quill in ink before starting to scribble away on the parchment.

James held a small envelope in his hand as he climbed the stairs to the owlery. Reaching the top of the stairs, he strolled straight to the window, unaware of his surroundings, admiring the fresh scent of the air and the sound of the fluttering owls. Tying his letter to his owl, he sent it off, soaring into the bright sky and watched it till it was out of sight. James rested his arms on the windowsill, closing his eyes and letting the soft breeze blow lightly on his face. He made his way down to the courtyard, planning to get some fresh air befor waiting for his friends. Sitting down on a bench it was not until then that he noticed a girl who was sitting in the corner. She appeared to be writing something, well at least James thought so, she had her quill and parchment out, and seemed to be lost in thought, scribbling away. The girl had dark hair that fell over her face, as she furrowed her eyebrows in concentration. The girl paused, then looked up, now apparently aware that there was someone there with her. She glanced around and spotted James staring at her. James jumped as she looked up and flushed, “Sorry, didn't mean to, intrude...I...I was just curious to what you were writing or drawing…” He trailed off, his usual air of humble confidence lacking horribly. He was usually like this when he met new people. Although from a glance he looked bold, confident and very outgoing, he usually only demonstrated these qualities once comfortable with the person, at first he was always shy and awkward. (OOC NOTE: He is kind of like Cedric Diggory to be honest-ha ha) He shuffled his feet and played with his fingers, still aware of the girl looking up at him, and waited patiently for her response, staring at his shoes.

Annie jumped when she looked up to see a boy staring rather intently at her. She shuffled her feet nervously and observed him since he was doing the same to her. Her mind spun in circles trying to think if she ever met this boy elsewhere because he looked familiar. The girl's eyes widened in horror, "Oh my gosh your the guy I spilled my punch on at the Valentine's Party.." She still felt bad about the whole scenario but brushed it off when he asked her a question.Mentions: @James Cadwell
"Huh, oh I'm writing to my mum, but I do draw as well sometimes, mainly magical creatures because I think they are fascinating." Annie started to come out of her shell as she spoke of magical creatures. She loved all sorts of creatures and drawing them was fun to her.
Eiryk ruffled his feathers and gave a small hoot to announce that he was awake now. The owl gazed at the boy with it's big yellow eyes and fluttered over to him before tilting his head expectantly. Annie gave a small laugh and looked up at the boy. "He's telling you that he wants treats, either that or he likes you." Eiryk puffed out his feathers before hopping back over and perching on Annie's outstretched arm. She stroked his feather's thoughtfully before glancing at the boy again, this time her head was tilted in thought. "I never got your name, mine's Annie and uh sorry again for the punch.."
Her conversation was all over the place because she was nervous and didn't know what to say. She simply shrugged before turning back to her letter. "Darn it I forgot what I was going to say.." Well, she had company now and if it got too awkward between herself and the boy at least she had Eiryk, who was fast asleep. "Great.."

"Oh my gosh your the guy I spilled my punch on at the Valentine's Party.." James screwed up his brain, trying to remember. Before he could respond however, she answered his earlier query "oh I'm writing to my mum, but I do draw as well sometimes, mainly magical creatures because I think they are fascinating." James' eyes widened in surprise, he loved magical creatures too, he was always reading up about them, other times he drew them-he was quite talented when it came to drawing. He temporarily forgot his embarrassment and said "Me too! I find magical creatures really fascinating! I'm obsessed with them!" His face brightened, "That and quidditch of course!" He added with a chuckle. "Here" He said, reaching for his bag and extracting a few books, "These are a few I have that I've been carrying around. I like to read them in my spare time." He walked over to Annie and sat down on the floor next to her, leaning his head back so that his light brown hair was ruffled slightly. He turned to beam at her, his hazel eyes bright and soft with kindness. Opening one of the books turned to the chapters on exotic magical creatures, skimming the pictures to find ones similar to the beautiful pictures she had drawn.

Annie's eyes lit up when the boy started speaking fondly of Magical Creatures. She spoke out loud in wonder. "You know, third years get to take Care of Magical Creatures next year and I'm super excited. Wish they would let us take it sooner but personally I wouldn't trust a bunch of 11 or 12 year old kids with that responsibility.." The girl chuckled. "Oh yeah, my name's Annie I'm a second year, chaser, prefect and yeah, what about you?"Interacting with: @James Cadwell
Annie moved over a bit for the boy to have some room next to her. She heard the word Quddich come from his mouth as well. So they had a few similarities in common, how cool. She mentioned previously when introducing herself that she was a chaser, maybe she could talk about Quddich and Magical Creatures with him. Her eyes locked onto his tousled hair, it looked pretty soft and she wanted to touch it but held back. Woah what am I thinking? Nope..
She shook her head to clear away the rumble of thoughts in her head and leaned towards the book, scanning some of the pictures and gasping when she saw a Hippogriff. "Those are my favorite, I just drew one the other day.." Annie rummaged through her satchel besides her and pulled out her small sketching journal. The girl flipped a few pages until she found her drawing and turned it around to show it to him, cautiously. It wasn't that she didn't like sharing her art, she was just afraid of the feedback from people. Annie unknowingly held her breath, waiting for the boy's answer

James smiled at her friendly, talkative nature, “Im James. James Cadwell. Im a first year, not a prefect or anything yet” He stared into her pretty light blue eyes and noticed that in the light of the sunny courtyard he could see golden brown and green flecks within them. She showed him a few sketches from her notebook and James stared at them in awe. This girl was definitely an artist. She looked hesitantly up to him and James beamed at her, “they are amazing! Better than I could ever draw for sure! Do you show anybody else these? I’m sure there is an art club at hogwarts or something right? You should take part your really good!” He suddenly jumped as though remembering something, “you said you play quidditch don’t you? Like on the team?” He pulled a miniature charm out from his bag. It was a miniature fugue dressed in gryffindor quidditch robes and when James let it go, it zoomed around about 10 feet, before flying back into his palm. “Pretty cool huh?” He put it carefully back in his bag. “ I’m going to give it to one of my best friends Ariana Walker, it’s her birthday soon you see, 16th April” James leant back once again leaning against the wall and smiling at Annie expectantly, “so tell me about quidditch? I’m not on the team but I love it! I play it a lot at home though”

Annie nodded her head at the boy as he introduced himself as James Cadwell, a first year. He stared straight at her when he was talking and she fidgeted but then he cast his glance towards her sketchbook and her heartbeat quickened due to nerves. She let out the breath she had been holding when he gave her compliments on her art. Her eyebrows furrowed together at the thought of an art club. "I- I never really thought about it, I guess I just want to get more comfortable with my art before I show it with too many people, so thank you for helping coax me out of my shell.."
Annie shrugged and bit her lip awkwardly. Her head snapped up at the mention of Quddich again and she started to speak before he pulled out a small figurine that zoomed around them. She stared in awe at it. "Wow that's pretty cool, ah I actually do know Ariana since she is on the Gryffindor Quddich team, she will love that." Annie smiled back at him as he started asking her about Quddich. "Well I never really thought about trying out since I kinda had a rough first year but Quddich is just.. calming and just amazing.."
She glanced over towards the Quddich Stadium. Almost now she could hear the cheers of the crowd and see her teammates flying around in their uniforms with smiles and looks of determination on their faces. "Yeah I'm a Chaser on the team, I managed to grab the quaffle quite a few times but to no avail, I couldn't score, all the teams have very good keepers, which is a good thing except if you are tying to score like I was." Annie gave a small laugh before continuing. "Well our team still had a good run this year, hey are you going to the unofficial match between Hufflepuff and Gryffindor? I won't be playing this time because it's a chance for the second-strings to play but it's always fun to go see matches." She asked mainly out of curiosity and looked back to her journal at her drawings. Maybe one day..

James smiled at her as she openly discussed her love for quidditch, it was something he was so passionate about too and being able to discuss it so comfortably with someone was so relaxing. "Well our team still had a good run this year, hey are you going to the unofficial match between Hufflepuff and Gryffindor? I won't be playing this time because it's a chance for the second-strings to play but it's always fun to go see matches." James hazel eyes brightened up at this, “Of course I am going! I definitely want to support my house and also to support Ariana, it's a shame that you are taking this one off, I would have loved to see you play.” They sat in comfortable silence for a few moments, both lost in their thoughts while James read his book and Annie continued her drawings. After a while James stood up, hoisting his bag on his shoulder, “I've got to go to the library, I want to pick out a few more books to read, but you dont suppose we could meet sometime right?” He looked quizzically at her and his eyes twinkled happily “I really hope to see you around Annie! You will have to show me how well you fly sometime soon!” He chuckled slightly and gave her one last smile before exiting, walking back into the castle.
