Illowy wasn't one to consider herself a poor student by any means... however there were definitely subjects she was stronger in then others. Classes such as Defense Against the Dark Arts, Charms and Transfiguration she seemed to excel at. And then there were her dreaded classes. Flying was at the very top of her list of classes she was absolutely terrible at. In two years, not even a glimmer of hope that she'd ever be a very talented flyer.

She liked to argue that it wasn't her fault. Her mother hated flying just as much and they never traveled by broom. Her mother would sooner take the Muggle train then fly anywhere long distance, but mostly they would take the Floo Network. That seemed much more practical to Illowy then whirling around on a stick for hours.

It wasn't that Illowy was afraid of flying or of heights or such nonsense as that. No, she had a much more realistic fear; falling. No one ever got hurt or killed from simply being too high up, but plenty of people died every day from falling. That was the thought at the forefront of her mind, barely able to pay any attention to the lesson for the day until she realized they'd been dismissed to mount their brooms and start practicing. Practicing? Practicing what? The girl looked around herself nervously before looking down at her broom laying in the grass. Hovering her hand over it, she commanded, "Up." easy as any other in her year, the broom obey, "Yeah, yeah, that's always the easiest part..." she muttered to herself.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Dale did not like flying, not only was he scared of heights, but he also was just no good at flying, and he hated things he wasn't good at. Flying fell into the same camp as Defence against the dark arts and charms fell into for him. Classes that felt useless, as much as he enjoyed learning about the subjects, he planned to go back to his muggle life after he graduated... and also the fact he was just no good at all 3 of those classes also played a big part in why he didn't like them very much.

"Up." Dale commanded his school-issued broom, the broom effortlessly glided up to his hand, while we didn't like flying... that didn't stop him from practicing flying, he still remembered his first flying class, and the embarrassment he faced that day. Ever since he practiced flying quite a bit, he got almost good at it. But his height of fears stopped him from improving too too much. Dale mounted his broom and waited for the teacher to signal for them to take off, we always got nervous when lying around other people, and that caused him to mess up and... fall off the broom.

There wasn't an accurate enough word in the English language to describe how reluctant she was to mouth her broom. Chewing on her lip, she swung her leg over, already getting a death grip on the broom shaft. If it were up to her, flying would've been an elective. What was the point when there were much more efficient means of travel? Its not like it posed anything useful; not like Charms or Potions class.

As the class was given the okay to start taking off, she watched as one by one, each student kicked off the ground and into the air to take a couple laps about and practice the maneuvers they'd been working on. Illowy was among the last to kick up into the air, albeit while looking quiet uncomfortable with being much further then a couple feet off the ground. Merlin, this class was so humiliating. Especially as a second year, to be so afraid of being more then her height off the ground was just pathetic. At least, that was how she saw it.

Pale eyes looked towards her fellow students, wondering how in the world they managed to be so comfortable so high up. Where they acutely aware of how they were two sweaty heads or a rogue broom away to plummeting to the earth and turning into a human pancake?

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.
