In the Garden
Madeline walked out onto the grounds looking around and enjoying the sight of the beautiful countryside. She was so happy that Hogwarts was located in her beloved Scotland. There was not more beautiful landscape in her mind, and if she was going to be outside and not cuddled up with a book, she was going to be in Scotland in a garden - just like when she was back home working with her mum.
The other First Years filed into the green house for their first Herbology class. While most of Madeline's interests were in things that she could read and use her wand, she did enjoy working in the garden. When she is at home she will work in the garden with her mum, that is where they grow most of the herbs that her mum uses at the muggle restaurant she works at.
This class was going to be different than all of her other classes. There was not going to be much note taking, but most of the instruction seemed to be hands-on, and Madeline did love to have the practical application of what she was learning be apparent. And there is nothing more practical than the lesson for the first day - "Beware the plants that feed." While her mum and da did not keep any carnivorous plants at home, she was familiar with them, and had already read through her text book twice prior to class. She was very interested in putting what she read into practice as they worked with the different plants.

Speak softly and carry a powerful wand.
