To say Ezra was overwhelmed would be an understatement. He had accuired so much information and met so many people all within his first week at Hogwarts. He floundered over the fact that he had so many faces and names to memorise! He already learned so much about Hogwarts and the wizarding world, but he still had heaps and heaps more to understand. He had made a couple of friends already, all of whom he was grateful for. But he still felt like there was so much he had to do that he hadn't done yet, and the anxiety surrounding the fact that he didn't even know where he was supposed to start was consuming him internally. The fact that he was missing his family wasn't helping either. Especially his dog, Tobias. He shook his head rapidly. It was best not to think about them. He would just become even more sad and homesick. He needed to go somewhere quiet. Some place he could sit quietly and gather himself.

His common-room would be way too crowded at this hour. Sure, he appreciated the atmosphere there but he was in no mood to face more people. He could try the owlery, but he remembered the cruel stares from the owls on his last visit, and decided against it. He could go to his dorm and retire early today, but he didn't feel like that either. There were so many places in the school that he wanted to explore but he had no idea how to get there! Frustrated and feeling defeated he made his way back to the direction in which he assumed the Hufflepuff cellar was.

He was so deep in thought that he found himself in an unfamiliar hallway. A specific door caught his eye. The large door was open. He went in. The room he entered took his breath away. The Library! He thought excitedly. This place was on his 'figure out where the heck they are' list. He was so glad he stumbled upon this treasure of a room. He recalled why he wanted to find the library so badly. He had forgotten to pack his comfort comic book, a crossover between two of his favourite graphic novels. He hoped this library would have it. Did they have a muggle section? He would have to ask and see. Gosh he didn't even know where to start with all these books! He would have to read them all eventually. Oh no, this was not helping with his nerves. He paced around nervously, staring at the bookshelves that seemed to tower higher and higher above him the longer he looked.

Ophelia didn't like walking alone in the castle, but that was what she got when she decided to explore when her friends were tired, resting. Throughout her first week, Ophelia had found a few friends she was very much grateful for -even the thought of being alone for a month gave her goosebumps.

Ophelia was a person who liked to be alone every now and then, but she did not like going to other places alone. That was why she was first skeptical about exploring the castle alone. Halfway on her walk to the library, where she met another friend on Tuesday, she wanted to walk back to the Gryffindor common room. This can't continue; I shouldn't be that dependent on my friends. I can go there alone, again.

Ophelia sighed as she stopped in front of the library's open door. Peeking inside, she noticed how only a few people were in there, which made her desire to walk in increase. As she stepped inside, the familiar smell of new and old books, and the quietness necessary for a library to be a library, welcomed her.

She walked between the shelves, occasionally stopping to grab a book and flip through the pages, maybe reading a page or two while still standing. She noticed another boy, a Hufflepuff, looking at the books. She'd seen him at the Sorting Ceremony and couldn't help but feel like he'd been just as nervous as she had been.

She didn't approach him, though. What could she possibly say to him if she did? She glanced over again. He seemed to be searching for something, a specific book, maybe? She took a random book that seemed to be something that wouldn't pique her interest anyway, and sat down on a nearby table. While flipping through the pages in hope to find something interesting, she occasionally glanced over at the young Hufflepuff.

Ezra gasped out loud, suddenly remembering a more pressing matter than his comfort. He had to borrow a book regarding owls. Now that he knew specifically what he needed, he was confident that some how, some way, he would find it. After all it was better than pointlessly pacing the shelves and glaring at books that had done him no harm. Gosh he was tired. He realised that searching by himself was pointless, he didn't know anything. He could ask the librarian, but he had to walk to them.

He decided to ask the first kid he saw. They probably knew what they were doing. He approached a girl sitting at a table looking rather bored at the book she was reading. He noticed she was a Gryffindor.

"Greetings fellow associate. You look like you know what you're doing," Ezra was horrified. What was he saying? What a way to start a sentence. There was no going back now, so he just rolled with it. "I uh, have you seen a section where, the uh, owl books?" Wow. This was going smoothly. He slapped his forehead internally. Perhaps he shouldn't have come here when he was in this fragile and embarassing state.

He should have just gone to his dorm room and slept, but nooooo, Ezra Calloway, the genius he is, decides to go to a Library where one has to think. And on top of that he decided to ask the first person he sees where the book he's looking for is? Just ask the librarian dude! He was so disappointed in himself. And embarrassed. He was so embarrassed. Please humour me! He prayed.

Ophelia looked at the Hufflepuff, dumbfounded. Did he always start sentences in a... Shakespearean way? She blinked at him, for a second forgetting how talk. Okay, maybe she was caught off guard for a second, but only because, as much as she'd hope for this, she didn't expect the boy to really start a conversation.

Owl books? Why he wanted a book about owls, Ophelia did not know. Maybe he just liked those birds? Ophelia thought they looked nice when it wasn't dark outside, but when it was, they seemed to be terrifying. But she believed she saw one or two of them while she was absentmindedly browsing the shelves. Where that was, she could only guess.

"I- uh- I think I saw one when I was... looking around," she said, "I'm not sure where it was though."

She pursed her lips in a thin line, not wanting to completely disappoint the boy. "But I could help you find them," she suggested. She didn't have anything better to do, anyway, and maybe this way, she could find a new friend.

Ophelia stood up and put the boring book that she had immediately lost hope in back in its place. Then, looked at the Hufflepuff, waiting for his answer.

Ezra sighed with relief. "You're too kind!" He said to her cheerily, thinking to himself in a rather serious tone, Expect the unexpected. I am feeling incredibly weird today. He smiled at her, trying not to show the strain in his face muscles. She seemed pretty nice, offering to help him like that. Or perhaps she was being polite, he had disturbed her reading after all. He decided not to think too much about it and find his book, borrow it, and go to bed as soon as possible.

Hopefully he would be so unmemorable that this Griffindor would forget he existed and he could pretend this never happened. Good luck with that Mr "you look like you know what you're doing". Man, his subconsciousness was never going to let him forget this, was it?

He started browsing the shelves absentmindedly, until he realised he was staring at books about plants. As much as they intrigued him, it was not what he was looking for. But it wasn't far. plants, animals, they were usually close by right?

His logic may have been flawed but he was willing to put it to the test. Before that, he turned to see how the girl was doing. He should have introduced himself, he realised. But he hadn't. It would be weird to do it now, so he said nothing and simply looked in her direction.

Ophelia smiled as the boy exclaimed. She was quite glad that the boy had come to her; she did not want to flip through an overly uninteresting book.

"Name's Ophelia, by the way, and you are?" she stated and started walking, waving at the Hufflepuff to follow her. "Why do you even want a book about owls?"

Ophelia admitted that she found it a bit weird that a first-year student's first instinct in the library was to look for books about owls. But who was she to judge? She was the one flipping through a random book and not reading more than two sentences every five pages.

That was more weird, now that she thought of it.

She was glad that she'd told him about her not being sure about the book's location beforehand. As they walked through the aisles and between the bookshelves, Ophelia's eyes analyzed each book's title quickly. This was something she often did at a bookstore or a grocery store at home: just walking and looking at the same time. For some reason, she never missed what she was looking for.

"Is this-?" She stood on her tiptoes to reach for a book on the fourth shelf tier to grab a dark brown book with a small, golden owl drawn on its spine.

Ophelia. He repeated to himself, a soft smile plastered on his lips. "I'm Ezra." He mentioned, walking along beside her, scanning the shelves for any possible sign of a book. The lids of his eyes weighed heavy as he dragged his feet down the aisles of books, exhaustion from the week creeping close.

His mind drifted, moving drowsily, lost in the reminiscence between thought and time itself. A soft guitar melody floated around in his brain, echoing against the bare walls that he found his conscience in. He felt his eyes begin to close, the sweet escape of sleep cradling him in its grasp. His eyes shot open when he heard a sound. He looked around frantically for Ophelia. There she was, removing a book from a shelf. Had she said something?

He moved toward her, his steps sluggish. He stared at the book she had in her hands. "That... looks like it's about owls" He stated, all sense of conversation leaving him. The book was dark brown with gold letters engraved on the front cover. 'Owls' it stated. Awesome. Amazing. Spectacular. His brain chanted unenthusiastically. "Welp. Thanks Ophelia. I'd better get to bed! Good night" He told her, shooting her some droopy finger guns and turning around to leave.

He sighed, went to check out the book and left for his dormitory. It had been a long week. He needed rest before he could face anyone ever again. Maybe he'd see Ophelia again. Maybe he'd behave suitably. Maybe she hated him. That was for future him to worry about. Now all that he needed was to get to his bed and sleep.
