Jay turned her back on The Forbidden Forest without looking twice as she followed Skylar closer to the castle, the ominous presence of the Forbidden Forest left behind them. The light of the castle seemed warmer, softer, less... wrong.✦━━━━━━✦━━━━━━✦

Jay calmed down a bit and her hair faded to a muted chestnut brown, still with faint blue and green, for once she didn't care that her hair was showing her emotions against her will.
"Stupid plant" Jay dropped down onto the grass and started picking at her nail polish like it owed her something. She breathed out puffs of hot air as she spoke in cool and controlled voice "I got rid of it all so it should be fine" she paused "I think" Jay groaned and threw a rock into the lake.
Why did I freeze? Its just a forest. Get over it
She ran her hands through her brown hair as she looked up at Skylar "That plant I burnt" Jay said, staring out at the lake "It came from in there" Another rock flew from her hand. Harder this time "It had to" she tipped her head towards the forest and glared at it like it had cussed at her and then flipped her off.
"Tsk, stay there you damn pieces of firewood" Jay hissed at the forest, still glaring at it. Most students had stupid theories about the forest. Jay didn't, she observed and gathered information until she was almost certain. She had a good idea of what was in the forest and why no one was allowed inside, not that the rule stopped all students, Jay would go in if she could but there was no way she could avoid all the problems in there with her current knowledge of spells.
"You ever wonder why we aren't allowed to get anywhere near that place?"Jay asked Skylar, still staring at the dark trees.
I'd go in... but not with this spellwork
Her main theory was that there were monsters of sorts in the forest and things that shouldn't be disturbed, that's why Jay was hesitant about the forest.
"I wonder..."

Skylar lets out a sigh of relief as they move from the forest. That place just had an uncanny feel to it, and Skylar is just glad to be away from it. Skylar watches as Jay mumbles curses at the trees, clearly still pissed at the murderous plants that came from the forest.
"You ever wonder why we aren't allowed to get anywhere near that place?" Jay asks.
Skylar tilts her head as she thinks about it. She has heard tales, stories, and theories about what is in the forest. Some were too elaborate to be the truth, but some seem accurate enough that there were cases to support it.
"Well, I read a lot of tales about the Forbidden Forest. Some of them sound way to dramatic to be anything but fictional. However..." Skylar trails off as she remembers the stories. She was reading the newspaper with her dad one day when they saw someone went missing in the forest.
"What is in the Forbidden Forest is largely unknown, but they are definitely dangerous enough to cause fatalities. Several adventurers and magic users go in to find out what creatures reside there, only to never come back out."
"Apparently once in the Forest, time passes differently. The trees are so thick that the Forest is plunged into eternal darkness, offering little difference between night and day. And,"
Skylar pauses as she whispers the last part.
"The trees are alive in there. There were accounts of people seeing the trees move, roots appearing in places they were not before, and branches lowering to block someone from escaping. It is like the Womping Willow, but more quiet. More deadly."
Skylar shivers as a gust of wind pasts them. She glances up at the sky and notices the sun is almost down. She turns to see Jay still staring at the trees, as if she sees something. Suddenly, something rustles in the woods. Skylar's eyes widen as she turns to Jay. She could not tell whether the sounds from the Forbidden Forest were merely a trick of the ears or actual screaming. Skylar locks eyes with Jay, one word crossing her mind as the wind picks up speed.
"Run."

Jay felt her stomach do a backflip as she stood up slowly, staring into the depths of the Forbidden Forest, she could almost feel it staring back into her soul.
”Run” Skylar snapped
Jay stared at the trees swaying back and forth as screaming continued on, it could be the wind around the trees but then again this wasn’t a normal forest. Not in the least.
Is that… the wind or… something else
Jay pulled out her wand and held it steadily at her side as the forest seemed to move, she was not going to miss this, she pushed her brown hair away, well part of it was still brown, the rest had faded to an electric pink and gold that seemed to radiate excitement.
“I’m not leaving I wanna see what happens!”
Jay yelled over the wind, a smile twitching at the corners of her mouth, her eyes flicking between colours so fast, it looked like old TV static
”Should be fine”Jay joked “I can set something on fire if anything decides to try something”she chuckled, staring deep into the dark trees as if trying to bring its secrets forth through pure willpower.
“Besides!” She called to Skylar ”Don’t you wanna see what happens?!”

This is mad. This is insane. Skylar stares disbelievingly at Jay, who has a concerningly big smile on her face. The metamorphmagus's eyes and hair flicker back and forth from different colors.
“Besides! Don’t you wanna see what happens?!”
Hell no, is Skylar's first thought. She may be daring, but not in situations like these! She is active in school, confident in volunteering in class, not going around fighting monsters in the Forbidden Forest.
However, Skylar also could not deny the excitement and curiosity that piques her. If she thinks about it, whatever is in the Forest cannot come out and hurt her, now can it? She glances at Jay again, who looks so fearless and bold in the face of danger. She wonders how she must look right now. The cowardly lion with a heart of fear. Though it has been a while since the thought crossed her mind, Skylar cannot help but wonder if she belonged in Ravenclaw. But no, the Hat said that it is only in Gryffindor that Skylar can truly flourish. Perhaps this is what it meant. To not cower in fear at the night, to challenge danger as gleefully as her friend is. Maybe Gryffindor and Slytherin are not so different at all.
Locking eyes with Jay again, Skylar gives her a determined nod. She squares her shoulders and pulls out her wand. Her mind runs through all the spells she had learned. The Fire-Making Charm, the Knockback Jinx, the Take Root Spell, and much more. A sense of calm washes over her as she realizes just how equipped she is to take on the challenge.
The wind picks up as the howling continues. Skylar stands close to Jay, keeping aware of her surroundings. Suddenly, she catches a flash of white in the distance. Skylar widens her eyes as she sees what it is — a Gytrash. The spectral being grows and snaps its jaws, its forked-tail flicking behind it. More of them appear at the edge of the woods, not going any further.
Skylar grins as she sees the creatures. She had just learned about it in class. Spectral beings like Gytrashes may be immune to spells like Incendio or Verdimillous, but they are extremely sensitive to Lumos and the Red Sparks Charm. Pointing her wand at the Gytrashes, Skylar yells the incantation.
"Periculum!"
At once, Red Sparks shoot from the tip of her wand towards the Gytrashes. The creatures scatter, howling at the red light. Skylar grins as she turns to Jay, breathing hard from excitement.
"Gytrashes. They're spectral beings, so they are not truly alive. Incredibly sensitive to light, too." She explains. However, she could not help but wonder why the Gytrashes did not go any further than the edge of the woods. She looks around the quiet lake, the sun basically set already.
"We might have to leave soon, lest we get detention. However..." Skylar trails off as she looks at the trees again.
"Gytrashes are known to be fast brutes. So why didn't they leave the forest?"

Jay lowered her wand ever so slightly and stared into the forest, letting out a soft:
“Huh” She tilted her head to Skylar without actually looking at her before saying “Good question, not one I have the answer to” she smirked, “And besides, you seem to have mistaken me for someone who gives a shit about getting in trouble.” Jay paused “I couldn’t give a flying fuck in case you didn’t understand”
Walking towards the forest an out of curiosity was stupid, no one would ever in their right mind even think of doing that.
Jay apparently was not in her right mind, she walked closer to the dark trees and hummed softly as she looked for a reason as to why the beasts didn’t come out into the sunlight.
“You finally found that lion inside of you I see” she said loudly so Skylar could hear her “Fucking finally” she snorted with a smile and a hint of pride on her face.
Jay had to admit that Skylar certainly had done something right, and (against her will and much to her annoyance) her hair went a dark emerald with green and black streaks, she sighed and roughly blew a strand out of her eyes as she tried to remember what had been in the lesson about those creepy looking things.
They run from light, or just opt to stay the hell away from it, to be fair I don’t like bright lights either
She turned around to face Skylar “I was interested in those freaky looking things when they were mentioned in class” she jerked her head back to the forest “Apparently they can either be solitary or in packs like what we just saw and by muggle legend…” she shook her head as if trying to remember “they had it pretty similar but it was said they were spirits that could take the form of a horse, mule or a large dog but in reality only the last one is actually correct”
Sunny used to tell her muggle legends and ghost stories as it was the only thing she would fall asleep to as a young child and then became interested in them, keeping on doing her own research in her spare time, and now that she had access to a library of magical reality she could bust those myths for herself, either way they still intrigued her wether they were real or not. She absentmindedly ran her hand across her pocket watch as she stared into the depths of the trees, about a few metres away from the edge.
She walked around the edge of the forest before turning her back to it, facing Skylar “I can’t see anything” she sighed dramatically, a bit disappointed”shame the Gytrashes are gone I was hoping to see one up close”
She was about to walk back when she felt the hairs in the back of her neck stand up on end and her whole body went cold.

“It’s behind me isn’t it”Jay muttered to herself.
She lifted her wand and turned around in one swift motion, backing up a few steps so she could see more clearly.
“Well… Fuck”

Skylar whirls around as she feels the tingle behind her neck.
"Wow, that’s fantastic. I literally turn my back for what? Five seconds? And somehow you appeared. And before my third cup of coffee too.” Jay mutters, pulling out her wand. However, a sinking feeling settles in Skylar's stomach. They step back to get a better look at the Gytrash, but Skylar can only squint through the black night. That is when she notices the difference. This beast was quiet. Too quiet.
"Jay... this is not a Gytrash." Skylar says, her voice shaking slightly. "Lumos!" She yells, pointing her wand at the being. The moment light fills her vision, Skylar instantly regrets it.
Standing before them was not a Gytrash, but a Grim. The large, hulking figure of the dog towers over Skylar and Jay by a good meter or two. The spectral being was dark all over, the only thing that shined were its gleaming eyes. It growls as it bears its teeth, each as long as Skylar's forearm. Skylar pales as the beast begins to move. They could not fight this thing. Incendio and Flipendo would be useless to a spectral being, and it clearly is not affected by the light emitting from Skylar's wand.
Realization dawns on Skylar as she remembers her tutor's lessons. Grims were a terrible omen of death... it's among the darkest omens in our world. Skylar does not often believe in omens, but if that black dog was not the harbinger of death, it will be the reason for their death. One thing's for sure, they need to run.
"I think this is a close enough look at the beast, don't you?" Skylar lets out a nervous chuckle, but then the Grim lets out a particularly menacing roar. "Jay, we cannot fight this thing. Spectral beings are basically immune to all our spells and it clearly does not care about the light I have on my wand now." Skylar states as she slowly backs away. The Grim growls again as it stalks forward as well.
"When I count to three, we run as fast as we fucking can back to the castle, okay?" She mentally apologizes to her parents for her vulgar language. Jay was starting to rub off her.
"One... Two... " Skylar counts and points her wand at the Grim. "Periculum!".
"Three, RUN!" Skylar calls to Jay. The Grim roars as it reels back from the Red Sparks Charm. However, the effect will only last for a moment, and they need to leave now.

Jay’s hair immediately shifted from emerald green to a frosted white with sharp violet streaks almost flashing with the speed of her heart. She stared up at the black dog in surprise before stepping back in half shock and terror. Skylar shouted her spell and Jay raised her wand, following suit, shouting spells.✦━━━━━━✦━━━━━━✦

”Periculum!” She shouted, shooting red sparks into the forest behind the Grim and taking off, never turning around and never taking her eyes off the Grim.
“Don’t turn around when your enemy is faster you IDIOT!” Jay yelled at Skylar while casing green sparks in another direction to confuse the Grim.
Jay paused, slowing down before stopping fully. Jay paused, the Grim wasn’t actually moving. Was it growling? Yes. Did it look hungry? Also yes, but it wasn’t moving any closer away from the forest.
“Hey Skylar. I have the answer to that question” Jay tilted her head at the Grim and smirked, her canine teeth showing as she let out a loud laugh of shock and relief
“That’s so STUPID oh gosh HA!” her eyes gained a sort of holographic shine to them as she stared at the black dog, seemingly trapped,
“THERES A BARRIER!” She yelled, running her hand through her now dark magenta and blue hair, adrenaline pumping through her.
”Holy shit…she closed her eyes, and slumped down onto the grass, breathing a heavily.
“We should be fine” she sighed, relieved.

Skylar pants lightly as she turned back to find Jay. Only to find her... not there. Dammit. Skylar curses to herself. She looks towards the direction whence she came, spotting Jay casting more green sparks at the Grim.
What the hell is that maniac thinking?
“Don’t turn around when your enemy is faster you IDIOT!” Jay yells at her.
"Don't fight against something you can't win!" Skylar yells back. Was she trying to get herself killed?
Skylar readies her wand and prepares to run back, only for Jay to start laughing. Skylar wants to scream at Jay to do something and not laugh like a lunatic. The Grim continues to growl menacingly, its teeth gleaming in the night.
Screw it. Skylar thought before taking off again, but this time towards the danger. Merlin help her, she was becoming like Jay. However, Skylar pauses as she finally hears what Jay had been yelling from far away.
“THERES A BARRIER!” Jay cackles, running her hand through her different colored hair.
"By all the wizards of Hogwarts..." Skylar trails off as she stares in wonder at the Grim, who was in fact, not moving. She slowly brings herself to the ground, sitting next to Jay. To be so close to death, yet not close at all. Then, she starts to laugh. Her little chuckle turns into a full on cackle as she flops backwards, staring up into the night sky.
"Holy crap, Jay. You are insane!" Skylar laughs, grinning madly at her friend. They probably looked like mental patients that escaped the hospital, but who cares. They survived two monster encounters in a span of a night.
Sitting up again, Skylar looks up at the Grim. The Grim huffs at them, seemingly to finally be disinterested. It wanders off back into the woods, leaving Skylar and Jay alone on the grass. Skylar sighs as she feels the hunger begin to hit her. She pulls out a few pumpkin pastries from her pocket, now properly crumbled and mashed. Oh well, food is food.
Turning her head, Skylar offers one of the crushed pastries to Jay. She still has a wide grin as she laughs with her friend. "By the saints, we have one hell of a story to tell, now don't we?" She mutters to herself.
Skylar was properly exhausted after their whole ordeal. It was pitch black save for the glittering stars and moon above them. She tilts her head back and traces the constellation.
"You know, the sensible part of me will say go back to the castle and sleep. But..." Skylar grins as she turns to her friend.
"I think you are rubbing off me. They sky looks quite nice today, no?" She says as she stares up into the darkness, laying there and making no move to leave. Eh, might as well. As long as they don't get caught.
"I'll stay here if you are."
