Words:————————455────────────────────────It was the afternoon of the seventeenth of March. A Tuesday like most others. Students were done with their lessons for the day, and most seemed to have sought to the grounds to enjoy the feeling of spring. This was not the case for everyone. Max had had a terrible couple of days. Foul mood, messing up in class even more than usual with accompanying results. Then Olivia decided to get under his skin. It was not a difficult thing to do on a good day, let alone one as bad as today. They had fought. Max had actually hit her, then tackled her to the ground.
Upon discovering that Olivia was unconscious, the guilt steadily built up. He had managed to hoist her up in a way. Now they looked like two people trying to dance while standing on each others feet. He had managed in some way. He held her in an iron grip, both arms around her torso. By the time they were reaching the hospital wing he was dragging her just as much as she was carried.
The shame over what had happened, and what he had caused, had built up in the near quarter hour it had taken him to move them both. He was stubbornly blinking away tears at the start. Now he was outright sobbing. Hugging Olivia to him, they stumbled in through the door of the hospital wing.
The space was not empty, but not particularly busy either. Not that Max was able to take in any of it. The room could have been filled to the brim with dark creatures and other catastrophic things, and it would have gotten as much of a response as he would have given a puppy right now. Meaning no reaction at all. Not really knowing how to call for anyone’s attention, not daring to shift his grip on Olivia, and not having the breath nor strength to move another inch like this, he let out a sob.
His hair was in his eyes, doing a mediocre job of hiding the tears trailing down his cheeks. He was breathless. He heaved for air between cries that were outright painful to get out. Having stood there for a moment, his legs made the decision for him and folded. He fell more than sat, but at least it was his own behind taking the brunt of the impact. He maintained his hold on his classmate though, unsure if he would even be able to loosen his arms even if he wanted to. Having more than enough with his current situation to take in the room around him, he spoke up best he could between the breaths catching in his throat. «Pl… Please… help!»

Olivia was having a great week, heck she was having an even better day today compared to the others, you could say it was the best day of the week and a great way to transition into the weekend. But unfortunately it didn’t last long.
Max was doing abysmally all week and today he was at his peak which she didn't even know was possible. It was so bad that everyone was nearly expecting Max to mess up during every lesson. And to add to Max's misfortune Olivia had decided to torment and tease him, which he would have done if the tables were turned.
Olivia was having way too much fun she didn't want it to end and had decided to approach him when she saw him alone after thier last lesson. However things went south quite fast after that and before she knew it they were engaged in a fight which ultimately led to her to breaking her wrist and becoming unconscious. All because that loser Max couldn't control his temper. If someone was going to give thier so called rival ammo then why get triggered when they use it against them. It just proved to her that Max was no better then the typical guy, resulting to violence to win.
Olivia hoped more like prayed Max had some common decency within him to help her unconscious, pale, slightly broken self both physically from the broken wrist and emotionally from his harsh words to get some help. She would never forgive him if he left her, she would make sure to make his life hell. She hated that she needed him right now, she actually needed his help.

It was the end of the school day sure, but that didn’t normally tire him out this much. Maybe it was the fight. As it lasted less than ten minutes at most, it was unlikely. That left the fact that he was terrified out of his mind and crying worse than a baby being denied something they needed.
It did thankfully not take long to attract the attention of Nurse McLoughlin. Not that it surprised him, she always seemed to have the eye of a hawk. He was thankful. His shoulders shook as he worked to get the words out to answer her question.
«It’s all my f… fault!» New tears slipped free and trailed down his cheeks. He had to pause to get in as much of a breath as he could. «We argued. We do that a lot.» He considered for a second to make up something. The story didn’t exactly make him look good, and he would rightfully be in a world of trouble. He did not let the thought finish before he stuttered to continue. If it could make a difference in what Olivia needed, he had to speak the truth. «I just got so mad! So I swung at her.»
He clutched Olivia tighter, if that was even possible. He did make sure to avoid the fact that he got kicked. Not for his own pride, but more because Olivia did not deserve to be in trouble on top of being hurt. He would probably get a nasty bruise on his behind, but nobody had died from that. «So she said something, and I got really mad and I…» A shuddered breath. «I tackled her. Then I don’t know what happened! One moment I was sitting on her, showing her my Herbology essay, and the next she went all pale and still» He pointed to Olivia’s arm, that somehow did not look quite right. What he had yet to notice was the probably growing bump on her head from being all but soccer punched with his book bag.
Getting it all out seemed to help. Just the relief of handing the problem over to an adult made his sobs quiet down and slowly getting replaced by a hiccup. «Can you help her? Please?» He looked up at her in a pitiful state. He didn’t really think they would be turned away. But he also hoped for a response that did not lead to him feeling even worse for the situation.

He wasn’t sure he was able to move, even if he wanted to. Any attempt at anything would probably have caused him to flop back down at the ground. Still, his arms loosened as Olivia was lifted from his grasp. They fell limp down at his sides as he sniffled again. «Th… Thank you» He managed to get the words out coherent enough, and wiped his nose with his sleeve.
When he was asked, or told, to take a seat in the chair next to the bed his legs moved before he even finished comprehending the words. It was nice being told what to do, it made him feel not quite as useless. He staggered slowly to his feet and shuffled the distance and sank down in the chair. On pure reflex he grabbed Olivia’s hand, thankfully not the injured one. He did some attempts at wiping away the tears, but gave up as new ones just took their place. The sniffles and the slight hiccups did not seem to go anywhere.
He had just given up on pulling himself together, and grabbed Olivia’s hand with both of his when Nurse McLoughlin returned. His eyes shot up when she spoke and he shakily reached out for the two things he was handed. He nodded as he pulled out the stopper in the vial. «O… Okay»He shot both of them another look before he downed the contents.
Lowering it and placing it on the closest table, he could feel his breaths starting to even out as he felt himself starting to calm. The juice box was next. He had seen similar, but couldn’t remember if he had ever drank one. He plundered a bit with the straw before he finally got it. As he popped it in his mouth for a sip, he could truly feel that the potion had taken effect. The world no longer felt like it was crashing and burning all around him. What it did not remove as much was the terrible sense of guilt.
He grabbed Olivia’s hand again as her other one was fixed and bandaged. He nodded along with the words from the nurse. «So she should be alright, right? Able to write and climb and…» He cut himself off. He needed to remember that this was not to make him feel better about what he did, but for Olivia to get help. «…all of that?» He finished softly.
His eyes did not leave his friend as the revive potion was administered. He needed to see her open her eyes. He couldn’t stand her most of the time, and she was a pain to be around constantly. But right now he could think of nothing better than those hazel eyes opening and looking back at him. «Thank you.» His tone was still soft. He knew how fast healing with the help of magic worked, he was used to it from home. But him being directly responsible did, in his opinion, something to the urgency. Had the calming draft not been in his system, he probably would have started crying again, if not hyperventilating. «But she will be alright, right? Like before?» He couldn’t help to let the question slip, but he told himself it was for Olivia and not for himself.

Olivia's eyes slowly fluttered open, the lights above her catching her a little off guard. She glanced around a little, seeing a privacy screen around her, something about the atmosphere instinctively made her feel quite calm and safe. She tried to sit up ever so slightly as her head was hurting to gain a better understanding of where she was and how she had gotten here. She couldn't remember she was still a little disorientated.
One of her hands was being held by something or someone while the other was free so she decided to use that hand to push herself up and help her remember or at least peice together what was happening. That was a mistake as a shooting pain shot up her arm as she applied pressure on her wrist making her whince and glance over at it before quickly flopping back down. It was bandaged pretty good, better then what she had ever seen someone wrapped in the muggle world. She then looked over at her other hand, which she quickly realised was being held by someone and not something, she looked over at the chair wanting to see who had taken her to the hospital wing. "Don't you dare touch me," she said anger slowly brewing within her as she saw Max. "This is your fault," she added moving her hand out of his grip.
It was all coming back to her, Max had been the one to cause her all this pain, he was responsible for her having to be in the hospital wing, he had actually hurt her this bad, he had hit a girl like really hit a girl, "How could you?" she spat angrily instantly regretting it as she instantly felt a little weak from being knocked unconscious.
She looked him up and down, he had clearly been crying he was even more a mess then when she had last seen him. "Why are you crying?" she asked confused, he didn't care, he shouldn't care, they weren't friends like that, he had told her to dive into the lake and never come back so why would he care if something happened to her?

Olivia smiled slightly as Nurse McLoughlin joined the pair, she seemed quite stern making Olivia not want to ignore her presence or continue her argument with Max. She listened attentively to her words before glancing over at her broken wrist, "Thank you," she said with an appreciative smile, "Thank you for looking after me," she added, it was nice knowing she could relax and be safe in a venerable state. It almost felt as though she was at home surrounded by the best possible care available.
"My head," Olivia answered softly rubbing it with her good hand as she lay comfortably back down on the fluffy white pillow. "I also feel pretty weak," she informed. She hated that, being weak in any form was a weakness in her parents eyes, she could picture her mother looking down at her unimpressed. "Don't you have something to help me regain my strength faster?" Olivia asked, hoping such an elixir or spell existed.
Max was truly lucky that Nurse McLoughlin had come back pretty swiftly and with a strong presence, she didn't want to hear his pathetic excuses nor did she feel as though she had the strength to argue to her full potential, but she would have tried Cuthburt's never back down. "My eyes slightly sting too," she added as she felt them begin to water a little. She couldn't tell if it was from the pain or from what Max had previously said, all she knew was that they were stinging and the more she felt pain the more her anger grew towards him.

Olivia would be just fine. He could think of no words that could have sounded better. So he nodded slowly «Thank you» With a soft tone, he repeated the words. They were hardly enough to repay the relief her words had given him.
As Nurse McLoughlin disappeared to tend to other matters, he put the juice box down on the table. He had only taken the one sip, and maybe Olivia would want in when she woke up. He then grabbed her hand with his now freed one as well, and stared at her. It could take some time, he knew that. He also knew that standing up and shouting for her to wake, would doubtfully do much besides getting himself thrown out. So he remained seated, steadily holding her hand.
When those eyes finally opened, he almost missed it. He didn’t know what he had expected, a dramatic gasp of air perhaps? But instead, he was stirred from his thought spiral by words and the withdrawal of the hand he had held. The rather dramatic intake of breath came from him instead. Not surprise, really. More straight up relief. The feeling flooded his face before he could even begin to understand the words that were spoken.
He opened his mouth. He felt like he should say something. Apologies, promises, something. Instead, his eyes slowly filled with tears once more. «Olivia, I’m…» The words took long enough to form that he didn’t manage anything else before the precious Nurse McLoughlin returned to them, and he cut himself off. His apology could wait.
With his now empty hands, he picked up the juice box once more, needing something to hold onto. Sniffing quietly, he remained silent as the examination began. Hearing the list of how and where she was hurting felt like being pounded by a bludger at each new word. Hearing would have preferred that anyways, that didn’t bring along this horrible feeling at least.
Her eyes were stinging. He couldn’t remember causing that, but it was probably his fault too. There was no doubts about it. «I… I could get you a tissue?» He hadn’t really noticed her eyes watering. When something hurt, it was only natural to poke at it. If it was the eyes, better it be a tissue than a finger. «You can have the juice box if you want?» He offered it slowly, holding it out to her. He didn’t really know where to find tissues, and this was something he could easily do. «I think it’s a… apple, b..but I’m not really sure.»
