Decorating Cupcakes!!
Damion didn't know that what his mother did was passed on to him. He remembered his mother baking stuff and decorating them whether it was for his birthday or for any occasion requiring his mum to make a cake or cookies or any baking sugary thing. He loved seeing him mum make it and had helped her with it. He had liked decorating the cakes, cupcakes and cookies. His mother would have "decorating your own sugary goods" as a party game. For a young kid, it was something very interesting and attention grabbing. His mother would not allow him near a burning stove or a hot oven. Other than that, he was allowed to make no matter what decorations he needed to. So well, Damion never tried to get close to the kitchen. A smile laced Damion's face as he saw the lemon cupcakes were ready. He let the lemon cupcakes rest for a few minutes.
While the lemon cupcakes were resting he gathered up stuff he would be needing on a table. He took out his book of decorations from his sling that he was carrying on himself and smiled as he read it.
I need:
~ Large Marshmallows
~ Pink Sprinkles (for some photos directions on the ears look at my post from last year)
~ Candy Eyes
~A large pink sprinkles (for the noses)
~Chocolate Jimmy Sprinkles
After putting everything he needed he took a big bow to beat cream cheese and butter until it was smooth. He continued to add in as much powdered sugar as needed to reach desired consistency. The he added the vanilla extract. This was for his cream cheese frosting. He put it aside and then moved to the next item on his list. Yes of-course! The Bunny Ears. Well to make the bunny ears he needed to cut each marshmallow using scissors diagonally and then immediately press the stick side into sprinkles. He had also sprinkled and sprinkles into the sticky area for some.
Well what do I need to do now? He thought to himself. He looked at the note-book in front of him. Right. He needed to put the cream cheese frosting on the cupcake. He took the cupcakes and put them delicately on the table and waited for them to settle down a bit before he would pick them up and start putting them in their specific trays. He glanced at them and couldn't help but smile at them. They (the cupcakes) looked very unique and delicious. Alas!! Shame he couldn't taste them to make sure that they tasted as delicious as they looked but Damion had made these before so he knew that he was doing the right thing.
While he was waiting for them to be ready to be packed, he thought of the short time that he had been here. It was very welcoming to him. Everything was very new, mysterious and scary a little. Though he had known that he was a wizard from very young, he had not expected this to happen so soon. Well it was shortly after his Eleventh birthday that he found himself in the Great Hall getting sorted with the freaky talking sorting hat on his head. He couldn't help but be unnerved by the events that were happening at that moment of time. "What am I going to do here while I wait for these cupcakes?" He asked himself. He knew that he was alone here. He wasn't talking to anyone in specific but to himself. He didn't expect an answer. Weird. He thought. Why would I talk to myself and expect an answer of sorts? He continued thinking. He should write to his parents about reaching safely and being sorted in Ravenclaw house. He smiled to himself as the thought crossed his mind.
He had set a clock/ alarm on his muggle wrist watch so that he would know when it was time to pack the cupcakes- well when they had rested enough to be handled again. He didn't want to make a mess of the cupcakes. Then they wouldn't be suitable for displaying or look appetizing to eat. He wanted to do things by the book- literally he had a notebook in his sling bag that had what needed to be done and when it needed to be done- starting from baking them (which though he never did whether he was at home or he was in school) to the last minute decorations that he had to do. He had penciled down everything. Every small detail that he had thought would be necessary for making his cupcakes stand out. He wanted to make sure that he was doing everything right and was not leaving a room for error. In his mind, he wanted to perfect this and make sure that there wasn't anything slightly wrong with his cupcakes.
Looking at the watch on his hand he smiled. Another minute and half and he could finally put the Bunny ears and eyes on his Lemon Cupcake. He was anxiously waiting for the time to pass by sooner and hoping that it would look and would be scrumptious. He felt as if the watch's hands had slowed down. He could see the watch ticking slowly (or so he felt) second second to the minute and half mark. Damion wouldn't lie he was getting impatient more than anything. He wanted the time to pass sooner but it was taking it's own sweet torturous seconds to pass by. He sighed as half a minute passed and it was only another sixty seconds to go. He was very happy that it was just a few more seconds before he could get to the finishing touches of his cupcake.
He wondered if his mum would have been proud of him doing something like this. He had always shown an interest int things like these. Back at home, his mum would bake sugary goodies and he would gleefully decorate them- using anything and everything that his mum said was appropriate and of course safe. Safety was a huge concern- well he understood that . His mum or well anyone for that matter wouldn't want a young kid of less than eleven using equipments that might end up hurting him. Would they?
Another relieved sigh escaped Damion's mouth as he saw that his wait was over. He put on his gloves and took a pair of tweezers, and picked up the equally cut ears with pink sparkles and put them on the cream frosting. Then came a harder step. He had to be very careful not to poke around the cream frosting. He picked up the eye bit using the tweezers and placed them on the frosting. He repeated the same thing for the little pink nose of the bunny. He then added small chocolate whiskers and his cupcakes were finished and ready to be presented.
