A Lot of Sway
Interacting with @Opeila Seilun
Friday | 10 April 2020 | 1:54 pm
As Aaron marched down the very familiar Quidditch-themed corridor, he couldn't help feeling a bit nervous. Despite having his partner-in-crime Opeila at his side, he was worried that they would fail in their mission. After all, this was his first time planning a secret Blossom Ball and trying to get a professor on board. It would also be his first time talking to Professor @Olphie Bercegeay about something other than Quidditch.
The twelve-year-old was on pretty good terms with the flying professor. Ever since he'd learned about Quidditch over the summer, Aaron had been obsessed. And then when he found out he was a natural-born flier? He'd been over the moon! What ensued was a passion for the sport rivaled by no other, and a deep desire to become a Quidditch professional. Being taught by a former professional in itself meant that Aaron idolized Olphie, embracing her quirky fashion sense and over-the-top personality in exchange for advice on his future career. He would bother her to stay after classes for a few extra minutes of flying time, and eventually he had even worked up the courage to ask to practice on his own! It was clear that he had built up a rapport and a great deal of trust with her when she agreed that first time, and let him borrow some school brooms to practice with Willow at the Training Pitch. Ever since then, he regularly exchanged pleasantries with her and even had occasional Quidditch talk over a couple bottles of Yoohoo. He knew that Olphie Bercegeay, the former Quidditch professional, would always have a special place in his life for her advice and deepening his passion for the game.
But Olphie Bercegeay, the person? Well, it wasn't until talking with the rest of the secret ball planning committee that he truly realized how... unique she was. She spoke to students in a casual way, and she was incredibly free-spirited. She even planned something called a Valentine's Tea, which Aaron had not had the pleasure of attending. From the stories, though, and other observations of the woman, the team had decided she was the most likely authority figure to help them with their rebel ball. There was no way they could pull it off without someone who has a lot of sway, i.e. a professor.
Opeila had jumped at the opportunity to talk to Olphie, because apparently she had an incredible plan on how to convince her. Aaron had volunteered to help Opeila because he thought his relationship with the woman might help. Nevertheless, Aaron was more nervous for his current mission than he had been about his first (unofficial) Quidditch match on Tuesday. He'd spoken with Opeila a couple times about what they should say and how they should approach the flying professor, but this was still his first time breaking the rules at Hogwarts. Would Professor Bercegeay really help them with it?
"It's through this room," Aaron said, as they came to a huge, heavy door made of dark wood. He pushed the door open, and it took a bit of effort because of its weight. He held it open for Opeila, then let it swing closed behind them once they were through. They now stood in a broom workshop which, aside from a bright pink lamp, looked very un-Olphie. It smelled of wood shavings and broom polish. "This is her workshop," he explained to Opeila, gesturing to the various brooms in the room. "Her office is through that door," he added, pointing to the dark wood door on the opposite side of the room.
The sign on the door read "Olphie C. Bercegeay's Office, please knock."
"You ready?" Aaron said as they approached the door. He looked at the smaller girl at his side and offered an encouraging smile, since he knew she was pretty reluctant about talking to the flying professor. Even though Opeila had volunteered, Aaron had quickly realized she wasn't very enthusiastic about the whole situation. But, her plan was solid and that's all that mattered.

Opeila was not too happy. Actually she would love to be anywhere but where she was right now. It was not because of Aaron, he was quite good company, but they were walking up to her least liked Professor, Olphie Bercegeay. The first time she had spoken to the Professor had been during her Valentine's Tea, where she not only had been unnecessarily rude to the Gryffindor boy Alan Vanes, but also did not stop to ship Opeila wuth her concussed friend Ruka Tân... wo eventually puked on Opeila's shoes. Well, who could blame him?
But that was the other reason she didn't ever go near that office, besides the other reason, which was that she simply had nothing to tell or ask the Professor. At least Aaron seemed to be on good terms with her, he even brought her a bottle with a drink called Yoohoo that Opeila had never heard off.
Opeila was only hear because she believed that she knew how to get the Professor to help them. If there was one thing, she knew about her, then it was that she was romantic. So what was better than applying a bit of successful romance on the question?
Aaron now described how to get to Olphie's office, opened a door for Opeila and showed her the Professor's workshop.
Opeila looked at the door of Olphie's office, read the sign that was attached to it. Aaron asked her if she was ready and smiled at her. Opeila smiled back. "Not really but... ready enough.", she said before gently knocking at the Professor's office.
Be nice, Opeila.

A Lot of Sway
Olphie was scrapbooking. She was particularly missing a certain someone, a man known by no other name but Barnaby (middle name unknown) Ryker. She had taken all of her magazines of the man, which amounted to over 100, and began her arts and crafts project early in the morning. Each page was carefully pasted in, with various descriptors of the qualities she loved most of Barnaby Ryker, written in glitter glue.
By the time the children had been standing outside the door, Olphie was pasting in her most treasured photo, the one of her smiling next to her birthday party cutout of him, where the students were able to pin the wand on him. She had wanted a photo of the real-life Barnaby Ryker, but alas, she never was able to track him down. And then he quit...
She wrote next to the photo, his beautiful body, because that was the trait everyone searched for in a proper lover. She decorated it with glitter glue hearts, in various colors of pinks and reds, and just as she was finishing the last one, she heard the knock.
Any person in the right mind would put away a stalker book of pictures, but Olphie cared more about her creation than making a good impression. She instead left the book wide open, last page drying, and got up to answer the door.
"Well hello dears!" She bellowed, staring down at the duo before her. She recognized them both, the Yoohoo boy and the girl who she had set up for marriage. "May I help you?"

When the door swung open, Aaron smiled at the sight of his favorite professor. He immediately offered her the bottle of Yoohoo in his hands. "Hello, Professor Bercegeay!" he greeted familiarly. He glanced behind her, observing her very pink office with slightly nervous eyes. It seemed she didn't have any guests at the moment, so hopefully she could invite them inside to talk. Her office was much more welcoming than the workshop they stood in now.
"W-Well," Aaron cleared his throat as he looked back at the flying professor. "We heard about the Blossom Ball earlier this week, and we're just... we're really heartbroken," he said, his eyes darting to his side at Opeila when he said "we." "Of course, we thought of you as well, and how sad you must be that you won't get to wear a beautiful outfit either. So, we came hoping to maybe talk about our frustrations together, and maybe that'll make us feel better by the end," Aaron explained, his dark eyes back on the professor. Of course, he didn't want to give away their secret ball idea right away. In the first year's mind, it would be easier if they talked about all the sad things first before tossing out the idea that would make everyone happy again.
As he had been speaking, Aaron was also trying to convey his genuine sadness that the ball had been cancelled. All his friends and the rest of Hogwarts deserved to have fun. Hufflepuff and Slytherin especially, given the (odd) recent events that took place in their common rooms. Opeila's description of the spiders in Slytherin territory had really made Aaron empathize with her, and he'd in exchange told her about the Hufflepuff common room fire. And now here they were, trying to recruit Professor Bercegeay to help them throw a secret ball that would make everyone forget their worries. Even if for only a little while.
"So, may we come in?" he asked, offering a smaller smile this time.

A Lot of Sway
Her eyes widened at the sight of the present, a bottle of Yoohoo, that strange Muggle drink that she didn't think was even available in the United Kingdom, yet this boy always, mysteriously, seemed to have an immense supply of it. She accepted it graciously, though she still did not know if she liked the drink, she did like the special gift from the boy. It was working if he was trying to be one of her favorite students.
She unscrewed the top, taking a quick swig, chocolate milk adorning her upper lip as though she had magically grown a moustache. Though in a normal moment she would have instantly wiped the moustache away, she was so taken aback by the next words that A.A. Ron had said that she could not help but completely forget everything around her except the news that had presented itself to her, in the form of a small boy. "C-Canceled?" Olphie stumbled, unable to believe that the words were true.
Olphie had been a little... out of it. She had received an owl from her former lover, Caradoc Browne, but she had happened to miss it completely, oversleeping. She knew things at Hogwarts weren't exactly perfect, but no one had ever come to tell her that things were as disasterous as they were, even though she missed the meeting. And, either way, she didn't see there being much point in punishing the children! Cancelling the Blossom Ball was like cancelling Christmas. What else did the students have to live for, if they did not have one of the greatest celebrations?
Her thoughts were confirmed when she saw the genuine sadness in the boy's eyes. This was unacceptable; certainly something could be done, someone could be convinced that cancelling the best event of the year was ridiculous and unncecessary. Tradition could not be cancelled!
"Of course," She responded, beckoning the pair inside, showing them the two chairs they could relax in, and ignoring the scrapbook that was still sitting in the middle of the room. "Mind if I get you tea?"
If they said that they wanted tea, she would get them it and perch herself on her desk, smiling as she sipped her own green tea. After a brief moment, she would open the floor for further discussion: "Now, tell me about how you feel. I cannot believe they'd cancel Blossom Ball..."

A Lot of Sway
The Professor greeted Opeila and Aaron rather cheerful and then asked how she could help. Opeila was glad that Aaron spoke first she would have probably just thrown the topic into Professor Bercegeay's face- still able to be saved, but maybe not the best strategy.
Aaron smiled at Olphie and gave her the bottle of that unknown drink. Opeila managed to send the Professor a little smile as well.
Aaron started about the cancelled Blossom Ball and how heartbreaking it was to everyone. Good start, Aaron. Good start. They could build the plan up from that... She was sure that his words could make Olphie feel empathetic towards them, since Opeila knew that the Professor was very romantic. Romantic enough to pair an injured student with another student before she would allow others to take him to the hospital wing. Yes, she would probably blame Olphie for that until her graduation.
Aaron was probably laying on a bit thick, but the Slytherin would be very surprised if the Professor wouldn't even like that.
However she seemed rather taken aback when Aaron told her that the ball was canceled, offered them tea and let the two students enter her office.
"Thank you, Professor.", Opeila said, suddenly realising that her rather negative mood was not such a bad thing considering what they wanted to ask the professor.
The first years' eyes widened a little when she saw the open sketchbook in the middle of the room. His beautiful body. Opeila quickly looked away, that was nothing she wanted to remember.
Instead she decided to focus on the Professor's request to tell them about their feelings. "Well Professor...", she started, maybe exaggerating a little with her sad expression. "You surely remember, how my last date on Valentine's day was spoiled... I've seen the ball as a chance to have a good one, but it seems like I am simply not meant to find love." Opeila was ready to puke. I'm sorry for using you like that, Ruka. She still planned to ask Flash if he would go to the ball with her, so maybe they could have a nice evening. "I just... Surely there must be something we can do?", she asked. She hoped that Aaron would come up with the plan now.
