Dear @Alan Vanes,

If this letter finds you well, it means Cadmus has successfully made his first delivery! I hope he didn't surprise you too much, wherever you are reading this. I told him to hang around a bit so you could pet him and all that, but he's an owl, so I'm not sure he understood. He bites a lot, so be careful. I'm still getting the hang of this whole owl letter delivery thing, but it's quite neat so far.

I've never written a letter before. That's sort of weird, since I write for the school newspaper and I do a lot of homework. Don't much care for talking on the phone, either, if you know about phones. If you don't, then it isn't important. Really, the best way to talk is face to face, but since I don't actually know where you are right now, the letter has to do.

Well, that's my letter. I don't have any sweet clue what else to say. I never gave you my address after since apparently you don't need it, but I live up in Walkerburn when I'm not in Hogwarts. It's on the south bit of Scotland, so good luck if you ever want to come visit. You've got to take a ton of trains and buses and it takes ages. It's really expensive, too, if you're going there from platform 9 3/4.

Regards,
Mr. George Henry from Hufflepuff

P.S. I also attached my gobstone because it felt like I should attach something personal to my first letter. I don't own a set. I only have one. Please return it when you're done with it.

Dear George,

there is no need for you to worry further, as your
owl has safely found its way to myself. Cadmus stuck
around until I finished writing my reply, which I had
started to write as soon as your letter reached me.

I am so excited to finally be able to owl with you and
I am sure, you are equally as excited to do so. You
were right, Cadmus quite likes to nip, especially when
he is getting impatient.

I am currently in my dorm room, so you would not
have been able to find me, even if you had been
searching the whole castle! So I guess a letter can be
quite handy in those cases!

Don't worry about time, when it comes to visiting you.
I am sure my parents can arrange a portkey or some
floo powder! It is quite cheap to be honest, but your
parents would need to set up the floo network with
the Ministry of Magic! I live in London, Muggle London
actually, but there is not really anyone living closeby,
so we can do magic even at home!

Looking forward to your next owl!
Greetings,
Alan Vanes

P.S. I will send you back your gobstone with the next owl,
thank you for showing me; I added something for you too!

Dear @Alan Vanes,

sorry if Cadmus nipped too much. My fingers are all wrapped in bandages today because I spent too long playing with him and I ended up with cuts all over my hand. I didn't want the nurse to be mad at him so I just lied and said I was playing with a stray cat. Not sure she bought it.

A portkey or some floo powder? I'm not so sure you'll find a direct line to Walkerburn. If you still need to take the bus, I can send you a map when I get home. I have one with all the buses on it if you can get to Glasgow or Edinburgh. It shouldn't be too hard to do that - there are castles in Edinburgh, so I'm sure there must have been wizards there at some point. There must have been wizards in Walkerburn as well, I suppose, or else I wouldn't have been born one!

You can do magic at home? I thought that was illegal until you were twenty or something like that - do you have magic things in your house? My brother kept bothering me to cast a spell after I showed him my wand, but I told him I couldn't. Just because I did my first accidental magic on him doesn't mean I can do the same thing on purpose next time. He doesn't understand it. He stole my wand out from under my pillow, too, and used it to play fetch with the neighbour's dog. Don't worry, it still works. I tested it on my dorm mate's stuffies.

Regards,
George Henry

P.S. Please don't send back the gobstone. It's just an single one. I can't use it to play, and the juice doesn't spray out of it quite right when the game ends.

This letter was send with a School Owl

Dear @George Henry,

don't worry, I am fine and Cadmus did not really hurt me. Sorry that my reply took a while, which is also why I could not send it back with Cadmus and had to use a school owl instead. I just had some things I needed to finish; the essay I had to write took me a while and I was too tired to write any more after that.

A map would probably be nice and helpful and maybe you some help on how driving with the bus works. I have been on a plane before, once, but never been on a bus. Well there are magical bus, but that is probably not the same as the ones in the Muggle world. Does that cost money in the Muggle world too? Because then I would have to ask my parents for some Muggle money... i only got one penny, that another student gave me once. There are probably wizards there though, there should be at least!

There are some magic things to do, yeah. But my parents can do magic and do spells at home, so I don't really need to do chores. I need to do chores whenever I visit my aunt, because she lives in a Muggle town, so they can't really use magic there. At least nothing that would be too obvious, because that means they can be caught and get into trouble with the Ministry...

Greetings,
Alan Vanes

P.S. Are you sure that you don't need it back?

Dear @George Henry,

I assumed that it was my turn to reply now, since your owl to me had been stolen from that wind in the Owlery and because we met. So this is why I am writing you now and hope that I got it correct at least. When I read through your letters again, I noticed something very funny! You are in the Scamander Suite, but did I ever tell you that my dorm is called Demiguise Den? I don't know, if you heard about them before, but they are very cool fantastic creatures that can disappear and tell the future... however that works I am not sure, but I can show you some notes about them if we meet!

I have finally found a day for our trip to Hogsmeade and hope that you have time for it. You remember the coupon you gave me for my birthday, right? For Madam Puddifoot's? I can't wait to try their hot chocolate since the time you recommended it. I am also curious about their selection of desserts.

I am looking forward to spend some time again. Especially because school had been awfully busy, which made it difficult to find any kind of free-time for my friends! But I am still happy that we saw each other last week on my birthday, it was really great. Also you were right about the sweet pillows; they just taste amazing!

If you have time I would like to meet you next Saturday on April 11th in Hogsmeade at Madam Puddifoot's. Let me know, if you have time on that day. I will let you decide on the time we can meet!

Friendly Greetings,
Alan Vanes

P.S. I added some owl crackers in the draw string sachet for Cadmus

Dear @Alan Vanes,

Thank you for your letter. I don't think you told me that you were from the Demiguise Den - I would have remembered that and told Jake. He told me all about Demiguises before Herbology last week and I thought they seemed quite interesting - although they do look quite hideous. Maybe that's why they like turning invisible so much. If I looked like that I'd probably just stay home, as that's as close as I can get to invisibility until I can learn a spell for it. Can you bring your notes? I can read them so I can tell Jake about them when I'm finished.

I didn't expect you to want to take me! Let alone so soon. Don't you have any friends your age you want to go with? I mean, I'm flattered too! But I'm surprised. I think their hot chocolate was really good, so I can't wait to have some more of it.

It has been a while. The birthday was really fun and so was the pool. It was a really good day that day, so I hope something like that happens again soon. Just having time between classes is nice, now - I forgot about Easter break, so it's a pleasant surprise! I never mentioned it to my parents, so I'm not sure they know we're allowed to come home. Don't tattle on me!

Can we meet at 4PM at Puddifoots? I want to go to Hogsmeade over the weekend to get some things for my dormmates anyway, so this works out good. Please don't mention our plan to anyone because I don't want to get in trouble. I am telling Jake that we are going to go study Defense Against the Dark Arts together so he won't want to come along.

Warmest regards,
George M. Henry

P.S. Cadmus liked his treats!

Dear @George Henry,

I agree that they do look a little weird, but I don't think it makes them any less cool. They even can change their eyes, which is something I can rel think is really cool! I have read a bit about them and gathered some trivia, but I have not had them discussed in class before, so I am really looking forward to that! And I will bring my notes, so that you can show them to Jake, I am sure he would love that!

I assumed it would be nice to go with you, since you were the one who gave me the coupon in the first place! I hope you don't mind that it is so soon, but I really was too excited about the hot chocolate that I think it would be nice to go. Especially because Hogsmeade is always so vivid during the breaks!

If you don't want to go home, that is okay. A lot of other people decide to stay in the school as well; I do too as you can see! During the holidays it is the perfect opportunity to explore the castle some more and do stuff with friends; even though some of the professors gave an awful lot of homework just for that little break!

4pm sounds great! I will make sure to be there and am glad you have time to be there. I will not tell anyone, just make sure that no one from your dorm can find your letters and you should be fine! I wouldn't tell on that, because I know how much it sucks not being allowed to go there. It is the only place to buy sweets and candy and stuff!

Friendly greetings,
Alan Vanes

P.S I am glad Cadmus likes them, I hope you did not feed him all of the treats! Remember only three of them per day or it gets too much...
