Books and Buddies

Lorelei walked down the large, tall shelves of the library. They towered above her, the height of her 10 times. Lorelei always feared they could collapse. They were tall, old, and creaky. But as the year went by, she was certain they were nailed to the floor, or even held by magic.
Lorelei had to admit, she didn’t like studying in the library. She much preferred her common room. Everybody was in the library, so nobody was ever in the common room. It was great. Not to mention the warm fire defiantly beat the eerie chill of the library. But, it wasn’t really just for her.
She had been invited. Alexis Asterion, the letter had read. She seemed nice. She needed help on homework, and, well, Lorelei wasn’t one to be rude. She accepted invitations, except if they were stupid, of course. If it was reasonable and even respectable, why would Lorelei say no? And especially help with homework. Only an enemy or a real bully would say no. And Lorelei wasn’t one of those. Well, she thought she wasn’t. She knew she could be bossy or mean sometimes, but she really wasn’t a mean person in general.
She came across a wide table, able to fit at least 4 people. Perfect. She settled down. The girl hadn’t come yet. Probably because Lorelei decided to come 10 minutes early. Better safe than sorry, her aunt would always say. She laid down her books. Herbology, was what they were there for. She opened the dusty book. It was her aunt’s copy. She insisted she had all her old books. Some were already falling into pieces, so she did have to buy some new ones, however, her herbology book wasn’t one of them.

Books and Buddies
Alexis walked towards the library with her parchment in hand, preparing to study. Herbology is the only lesson she wasn't good at, she doesn't know why. She doesn't like it at all.
She walked into the library, looking for Lorelei, the girl she had asked for help with her homework. She remembered her from some of their classes, Lorelei seems nice enough so she decided to ask. She was right, the girl is nice. She decided to go and pick out one or two books that she needed first then go find the girl, she had to be quick. She doesn't want to be late and let the girl wait. Good thing she's familiar with the library already, after spending so much time here. The only thing she doesn't like is the library is always crowded, she thinks private library is so much better.
Alexis spotted the girl sitting at a table big enough to fit 4 people, she walked straight to the table.
"Hey, have you been waiting long?" Alexis asked while setting her parchment and the books down.
"Thank you so much for agreeing to help me. I'm really bad at this." Alexis smiled at the girl in front of her.
"So... Where do we start?"

The girl approached her. “Oh, hey! I haven’t been waiting long,” she said, scooting over so that the girl could sit down. “I just got here,” she said. It was a lie. She had sat there for, 10 minutes now? Lorelei wasn’t good at keeping track of time. She just knew she had been sitting there for a while. “It’s no problem, really. We all struggle at some things. I’m honestly not the best at flying. Before I left home, I could barely ride a bike,” she explained.
“Anyway,” she said, opening her dusty old book. “I believe we stopped right here in class,” she said, pressing her finger into the book page. Her finger landed right on a faded picture of a large potted plant.
Lorelei inspected the page. “That sounds cool. We used one of these in potions. So, what do you seem to be struggling with?” she asked. “This book should have all the information. If it’s the wording you can’t understand, I could help. I’m quite good with grammar. Or maybe it’s the planting process?” she offered. She then realized she wasn’t giving Alexis a chance to speak. “Sorry. Go ahead and explain.”The Wiggentree

Alexis looked at the girl for a moment, wondering how long has she been waiting exactly, She must have waited for a while. Alexis smiled weakly at her but didn't say anything and decided to just drop it. I could return the favour later.
She listened to the girl assuring her about her struggle with this particular subject but the thing is Alexis does not like failure, she does not like the feeling of not being good at something. It sounded a little bit condescending, she knows, but who doesn't like success?
Lorelei opened her rather old-looking book. She pointed at one topic on the page at turn the book to Alexis so she could read better. Alexis took a moment to read the paragraph, trying to recall some memories from the class.
"The Wiggentree? Oh right! I remember now. I think I don't quite understand these plants. You see, the planting process is very confusing to me." Alexis think back to the time where she try to plant something at home, she grimace.
"The plant just hates me I guess. I never have the patience for it and it was never a problem, you know?" Alexis looked at the book with a glare. Am I acting like a spoiled brat?
Before she can embarrass herself further, she picked up a book and started reading a bit."I think we could start here."
After about half an hour of studying she try to think of something she could do the return the favour and offered, "What about you? Aside from flying? Anything you're not good at? Maybe I could help, as a thank you?"
