An Open Door to Good Friends Open

Wolfe opened the door and found himself an empty compartment. His mother had insisted on being early for the train since it was his first year. She had told him by doing so, good friends would find him on his first day. With a sigh he lifted his father's old luggage case and placed it into the overhead rack with a soft thud.
"Better early, than late I suppose. More room to relax for now. Just hope I don't have to deal with higher years..." he mutters to himself as he sits down by the window.

As he sits he runs a hand through his unruly hair at a poor attempt to smooth it out. The moment his hand left, his hair fluffed right back out in its usual waves. Annoyed by his hair chose to ignore it for the time being. Anxiously he looked out his compartment window. He spots his Mother just a bit further down on the platform from his car. Her brown eyes looking at the train proudly.
It had been a rough boarding as only his mum was able to take him to the platform for the first time. His father was stuck at the bakery preparing for a rather large order for a wedding, but had promised to send him a care package soon.

Wolfe jumped a bit in his seat as he heard the train whistle blow signaling that it would leave soon. Just as if on cue, the compartment door opened...

Robin is literally speechless right now. The anticipation silently building up within him for years is finally ready to burst into a volcano of excitement. I'm really going to Hogwarts.

Both of his parents accompanied him to the station. As someone who grew up in a wizarding household with Hogwarts alumni as his mum and dad, he of course had heard about Platform Nine and Three-Quarters. However, it was still quite unnerving when he passed through the stone post. After dodging a pancake disaster, he waved his parents goodbye. They were close, but there were no tears. Taking the Hogwarts Express was something they prepared him - and he prepared himself - for years.

Robin squeezed himself through the passing students, looking around hoping to find an empty compartment. However, they were either full or the pair of students inside already knew each other and it would be awkward for him to barge in. A childhood friend of his is also attending Hogwarts this year, but their families came separately and he can't find him just yet. As the train whistle blasted through his ears, Robin gave up looking for Noah entirely and decided to enter the next relatively empty compartment he sees.

"Hey, uh . . . is this seat taken?" Almost immediately after his surrender, Robin had arrived at this compartment with a shorter brown-haired student inside. The train was about to move and he desperately needed a place to sit down and rest after all the squeezing. At least there's only one boy here. Robin pointed towards the empty seat across from him, so there would be no need for the anxious-looking student to move over.

Wolfe turned his head at the sudden voice. "Oh, hello! Make yourself comfy, promise I don't bite....much." He smiles politely with a closed mouth. Wolfe gestures to the seat across from him. "I'm honestly surprised I found an empty compartment. The train filled up rather quickly. Suppose I should thank my mum for getting me here early enough to find a good spot. Shame my dad couldn't make it to see me off. Oh well perhaps he'll pick me up for Christmas."
Wolfe awkwardly adjusted himself in the rather large seat, his feet dangling off the ground just a bit. He wasn't the best at mingling with other magical folk, most of his friends in Castle Combe were muggles. Hogwarts would be a rather new experience for him to be around more of his own kind. Perhaps he'd make new friends after all as his mother said would happen.
He figured he should at least introduce himself to be polite to his compartment mate. They were going to be sharing a space for a few hours and perhaps classes together. He bit his lip before being brave enough to introduce himself. "Name's Wolfe Silverstone by the way. Like the animal." He gave a toothy grin, "What is your name?"

An Open Door to Good Friends Open
Robin had already entered the compartment and was placing his suitcase on the overhead racks after Wolfe made the "biting" comment. By the time he introduced himself, Robin was in his seat, holding a notebook and a black ballpoint pen. Before he wrote anything down, he looked back up at the brown-haired boy and thought for a moment.

Wolfe seemed rather friendly, seeing as he's used to making jokes upon first meeting, Well, I think it's a joke? Robin felt it was only natural for him to match the boy's introduction: "I'm Robin Lockett, you can just call me Robin . . . like the bird." Robin then nodded slightly as the substitute for a handshake, "Nice to meet you, Wolfe."

After introducing himself, Robin lowered his gaze and started writing in his notebook.
. . . Wolfe Silverstone: brown hair/brown eyes/slightly short (1st year?)/extrovert?/likes jokes?/friendly

Whenever he meets a new person - especially in a new environment where he will possibly meet a lot of new people in a short period of time - he writes some of their characteristics in this pocket notebook of his. If he's writing it in front of said person, he tries to hide the contents in case he gets perceived as a creep, despite his reasoning being merely to prevent forgetting new faces.

The train had just started to depart the station, but there's still plenty of time before they get to Hogwarts. Robin isn't sure if there will be more students joining them, or if he and Wolfe will be the only two occupants of this compartment. No matter, Robin thought to himself. He hasn't been bad company in any way. Maybe I'll finally make a friend other than Noah and his baby brother?

A few minutes have passed when their conversation is interrupted by a soft, barely audible sound. Perhaps a knock on wood?

If it isn’t for the fact that the two are close to the door, there’s a good likelihood that they may have not heard it at all.

The door slides open just enough for them to make eye-contact with a seemingly awkward girl. Half of her wavy hair is neatly put up, but it does nothing to hide how frazzled she looked; her eyes shift around anxiously and she’s standing off to the side, fidgeting in place.

She looks like she’s ready to bolt at any sign of disapproval regarding her presence.

Please don’t be mean, please don’t be mean. She thinks to herself, swallowing and gathering what little courage she has.

“Good morning,” she says, stuttering over her words slightly. She shrinks in embarrassment over the stutters, but continues anyway. “I’m sorry for barging in on you two, but is there any chance I could maybe sit here..? I tried to look for a compartment that isn’t empty, but..”

She winces, remembering whatever awkward interactions she has gone through for the past few minutes.

“Lots of people, not enough compartments.” She finishes. “Only until Hogwarts, then I’ll be out of your hair, I promise. I just really want to sit.. my feet hurt.”

"Nice to meet you Robin! Funny, we've both got animals as names names." Wolfe grins before looking out the window again. The scenery going past them as they leave the city. The two boys fall into a peaceful silence for a while as Wolfe took in the changes outside. His attention is caught by the faintest knock on the door. He turned his head with a squint. Did he imagine that sound?
There a sliver of a girl could be seen from the crack in the door. She looked anxious.
"Oh! Good morning! Little bit of a bumpy start isn't it? Not the best idea to be walking around on moving transportation. We've got plenty of room left." Wolfe says kindly, patting the seat next to him. Wolfe offers to help her put her luggage onto the overhead rack. He stands up, though only slightly taller than her.
"Made it just in time though, Robin and I were just getting to know each other a little bit. I'm Wolfe, I hope we can all have a nice trip together. I don't really know that many Wizarding kids. Most of my friends back home are muggles so I'm a bit awkward...if I talk to much let me know...I tend to yap when I'm nervous.." he said sheepishly.

Realizing that at least one of the boys seems quite friendly, the girl relaxes.

“Thank you,” she breathes out a sigh of relief, entering the compartment with her luggage in tow. For a moment, she struggles to lift her luggage by herself. Before she could even ask for assistance, the boy who had spoken swooped in without complaint, helping her lift her luggage onto the overhead compartment.

“Thank you.” she says again, but this time, in a more embarrassed manner. She sits down on the space next to the boy who had helped her, her fidgeting continuing. Despite having been invited in, she leaves a space between them, not wanting to invade his space, even if it meant having to press herself closer to the wall in exchange.

Upon hearing the boy introduce himself, she offers one of her hands, seemingly for a handshake. “I’m Corrine.” the girl introduces herself shyly. “No worries about the whole.. knowing other Wizarding kids thing. I’m not in a much better situation myself, considering I’m a muggleborn. Didn’t even know I was a witch until my letter came in.”

The girl quickly realizes she may have been speaking too much, causing her to shrink into her seat. “I’m sorry,” she squeaked. “I’m also just as nervous, but you seem really nice.”

Robin was watching the scenery fly by after finishing his new-face documentation. He and Wolfe did not say anything after exchanging greetings, but it wasn't an awkward silence. It was comforting.

That was until the stasis was broken by a soft tap on the door, followed by the entrance of a shy girl. She and Wolfe introduced themselves to each other, the friendly boy even stood up to help her with luggage. Robin saw that they could handle it just fine, so he decided there was no need for him to stand up too. Later, he habitually adjusted his glasses when being mentioned by Wolfe in his conversation with the girl, whose name he heard was Corrine. Robin debated against taking out his notebook again, he could probably remember one new person just fine, taking her notes can easily wait till after he gets to his new dorm room.

I wonder if there will be anyone else coming in here, Robin thought. The train had been moving for a while, and everyone should've settled down. However, he just learned that there seemed to be exceptions; also if someone isn't having a great time with their "compart-mates", they might get kicked out and need to relocate. That being said, he isn't bothered by the new arrival, especially since she seems just as socially anxious as him.

Suddenly, Robin remembered something his mum said to him before leaving him at the station: "I'm not worried of you failing classes, I'm worried of you making zero friends in seven years." To that he responded with "Friends can just come naturally," and Myrcelle rolled her eyes saying that she was the one who gave him his only friend by moving into their current neighborhood.

Friendships can be very useful in Hogwarts . . . Robin started to mentally prepare himself for what he's about to do: small talk.

"So, uh, what house do you guys hope to be sorted into?" Dang it. He regretted that opening question immediately. They both mentioned that they either didn't know many wizards growing up or were just straight up muggle-born. There is a possibility that Wolfe knows about the sorting ceremony, since Robin wasn't sure if he had any magical relatives. Corrine, on the other hand, probably doesn't know anything about the houses.

Robin adjusted his glasses again, this time not out of habit, but out of awkwardness.

I (player/writer) didn't realize that muggle-born students would also get to know the houses when a staff visits to tell them about the wizarding world, but I already wrote half of that last paragraph before deciding to look it up. However, I think it's normal for him to not know since he is not muggle-born and therefore didn't go through the introductory procedure. His dad is a muggle-born wizard, but he probably just didn't see the need to tell his son about that specific information.

Anyways sorry for the yap if you are reading, I'm basically just giving myself an excuse for dumbing Robin down:)

Don't worry about it! You're doing great :) Just means more conversation material, right? I'll let you take the lead if you want to explain to a very unaware Corrine at the moment. (Since I can't speak for Wolfe lolol)

Not long after she had spoken to Wolfe, her eyes flicker over to the other boy in the compartment, who is watching their interaction closely. Corrine could feel herself tensing up once more, hyperaware of the attention that’s on her. Her hands begin shaking subtly once more, the fidgeting returning tenfold.

People will always look, it’s okay. She tries to remind herself, swallowing. It’s not always a bad thing.

"So, uh, what house do you guys hope to be sorted into?" The boy trails off, seemingly regretting that question the moment it came out of his mouth. It’s likely occurred to him just now that there’s a possibility they wouldn’t have a clue what he was talking about.

And for Corrine’s case? She truly doesn’t have a clue what he was talking about. What she does know, however, is that the boy—goodness, she doesn’t even know his name yet—is likely as nervous as Wolfe and Corrine.

He’s trying his best too, the girl relaxes. “I.. don’t know. What do you mean by houses, exactly? Are we sorted into groups or something along those lines?” Despite her anxiety, she leans forward with sparkling eyes, eager to learn more. The excitement of the past few days hasn’t dwindled since she found out she’s a witch, but it also hasn’t been enough time for her to adjust fully; she can only imagine what sorts of books she’ll be able to find in the Wizarding World from now on.

But for now, it seems that finding out more about Hogwarts itself will come naturally on its own.

Wolfe perked up a bit. "Oh right! So first years are welcomed into the Great Hall, think like a huge dining room of sorts, and get placed into one of four houses." He pauses to pull a bag of gummy worms from his pocket that he asked his mum for before going to the train station this morning. "Mum said they call you one by one up to a stool and set a talking hat on your head. Suppose it reads your personality or something and then places you into either Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, or Ravenclaw. You'll be staying in that house all seven years. Mum was a Hufflepuff when she went to Hogwarts." He finishes before opening the bag and pulling out a red gummy.

Wolfe offers his candy to the other two students before taking a bite out of his own. "I personally don't mind whichever house I get into. Suppose on what the hat finds up in my noggin'. Though one thing is for sure I already have a goal in mind for myself in the future. I think I want to be a Potions Master or maybe a healer when I'm Older? Definitely leaning towards Potion Master more."
