Yeah, no. She needs to lock in real bad.

It was embarrassing when Burnett is carrying the match whilst his teammates couldn't even CAST a damn spell.

Ara heard a laugh (which honestly sounded more like hacking to her) and was close to rolling her eyes, but she knew she couldn't sass the old rotting piece of organic waste material now or she'll eat her own words.

Day 1 - Morning slot
Was it bad to get excited for something so far off? Because Aislin wanted this, the complete and utter chaos of an upper year duel, spells so forceful they exploded in all directions and glowed brightly and rang in her ears, dulling the crowd. It was a mess, maybe not their best performances, but completely fascinating to watch.

As far as the casting went, it was a better round: no backfires, everyone getting something off. Jack steadily lined up two blindfolds, conjuring them easily but losing some necessary factor in trajectory or speed so that both dropped off the end of the platform. Rose, another of the more consistent casters so far, produced a strong-looking Reparifors, no doubt welcome relief for Evelynn before her backfired hex could dig its nasty effects in too far. Ara recast her own healing spell and this time redeemed herself, though she had pivoted her aid from Hanako to Jack, possibly as a result of the former laughing at her failed cast.

Maybe she should have turned the spell on herself, and would have if the brutal force of Evelynn's Blasting Curse had hit sooner, because it left her looking quite a lot worse for wear. To her luck, Kim's Ventus swerved for Hanako, just clipping his elbow, and maybe that mistake was a contributing factor in Hanako's mistake, which somehow ended in his Cracker Jinx exploding far closer to Jack than to any of the Gryffindors. They were impressively aggressive crackers, too, so at least the accidental friendly fire missed.

Jack's earlier 'insult' hadn't really bothered him much before. Thus, the reason why Kim hadn't responded to it earlier but as the match continued, he decided to address Jack's comment now that things had progressed a little more. The Prince looked back over at him. "I didn't say I would be the one to wipe your smiles off and it doesn't really apply to our side. Just as when you said it, it didn't apply to your side." He shot back. "But I do enjoy our banter." Kim added with a smirk. "It makes it more interesting for both sides, rather than just a battle focused on spells." Usually, when it came to duels, both sides focused on casting spells and that was it. But this time it was different, it seems as if Jack and Hana's appearance inspired people to be more chatty. But Kim wasn't surprised, Hana always had that effect on others. He didn't really know Jack that well but if he was friends with Hana, he probably was similar in some ways too. Perhaps continuing to banter like this would work to their benefit and make their opponents falter. But there was always the chance it would work against them too. Still, it was fun.

For now. Hana's response to his words made Kim tilt his head to the side. "Stylistic?" He let his eyes flicker over his form. But before he could say anything else, Jack interjected and seemed to express 'worry' over Hana which in turn made Hana respond in a manner that made Kim's lips twitch. Cute. He'd thought Hana was cute multiple times throughout the years, not that he'd ever admit that to anyone, least of all to him. This time around, Kim attempted to focus on Ara but unfortunately for him his spell critically missed her and ended up veering towards Hana instead. Well, shit. It hit him and Kim grimaced but he didn't ask if Hana was ok, that would seem too much like pity. Plus, this was a duel and things weren't personal. At least that was the way it should be for all participants. Hell, Kim wouldn't hold it against Hana if he attacked him in a duel. So he expected Hana to feel the same. Rose healed Eve and Eve had a much better casting this time around by successfully hitting Ara. Their side had done pretty well this time. Hana's spell seemed to go in Kim's direction at first but almost immediately ended up veering towards Jack instead....

Along with Ara. But thankfully for him, his spell didn't hit either one. Jack also missed with his own spell, taking on a bit too much for him to handle at the moment. Ara managed to heal Jack which was nice.

Kim glanced over at his own teammates now. "Don't worry about any future mistakes or misses, if they happen, they happen. Remember, we'll be successful next time, even if we fail the time before! There's always room to improve and make them better too!" He reminded them. But they had done a really good job this time. All of their spells had gone through, even Kim's had veered off but at least he'd managed to hit one of their opponents. On the snake side, only Ara had managed to successfully cast a spell and have it hit her intended target. This Kim was much better than the previous Kim of Year 3 and 4. This Kim was more alive and positive. This Kim had Val on his side. Even though ironically, Val was a quidditch player. Who would have thought a quidditch player would be the one to save his life and make him positive again...

Rose turned her wand on Evelynn instead of her opponents and murmured the healing spell. She watched as it reversed the effects of her teammate’s own spell fade away, and some strength return to her.

Her hanging back allowed both of her teammates to do some significant damage on the snakes across the stage, Evelynn’s curse landing and Kim’s jinx, though swerving away from his original target, still managed to barely hit Hanako. Jack sent a couple of spells their way, but Rose and Kim sidestepped them. Ha. They weren’t going to be taken out that easily. The fire lingered in her eyes as she watched Hanako’s spell go towards his own team and Ara heal her teammate.

Rose glanced at the other lions with her, grateful that they had seemed to secure at least a slight advantage. Kim encouraged them, and Rose nodded at him, a slight smile on his face. He was right- there was no time to think about past or future mistakes. They just had to keep fighting.

"Bangarang," Jack muttered under his breath, the word sounding like a swear. In reality, however, it was the trigger word that activated his binding mark's telepathy so he could speak telepathically and privately to Hanako.

<Are you sure? Do you need to be healed? Would healing even stop that deterioration?> The spell and Hanako's waning condition made him more concerned than he cared to admit. He also felt bad for poor Ara who seemed to be trying to do her best to keep everyone on their team conscious and able.

"Villa!" he cried when Evelynn managed to hit her with a Blasting Curse. He was so distracted by the attack on her that he failed to see how close Hanako's Cracker Jinx was being shot off until it was too late. He wondered just how much Evelynn's curse on him was affecting his dormmate, especially now that he and Ara weren't looking so good. Jack felt especially guilty since Ara had just healed him, too.

Well, he would just have to make it up to her by making the most of his restored energy.

"I don't know what you mean by, 'it doesn't really apply to our side' because if you have a smile to wipe off, telling someone to wipe someone else's off is still pretty arrogant. It's like telling someone to throw stones at a glass house when yours is made of glass, too. And as if that wasn't arrogant enough, you're a fifth year ordering around seventh years and as far as I know, you're not even a team captain."

He frowned at Kim. "I also don't know what you mean by, 'just as when you said it' because I never told anyone to wipe anyone's smiles off anyone's faces."

Maybe the duel was getting to Kim's head. But Jack was no stranger to chatter, so he didn't mind. In fact, he also enjoyed the banter, whether it made sense or not. He wasn't called 'chatter fox' for no reason, after all, and just as Kim thought he might be able to distract his opponents with talking, so too did Jack think the same thing.

Pre Round: @Kim Sato

" Stylistic" He winked at the 5th year Gyrrfindor in a flirty way, but evidently didn't look like he was going to explain.

@Jack Burnett
Hanako gave Jack an incredulous look, as if he had said something incredibly insulting. Which he did, really. Just in his head - telepathically. Same one he always had whenever Jack overtly acted like a concerned / distressed mother hen at the tiniest possibility that Hanako was hurt anywhere. He supposed Jack was relunctant of anyone really being hurt aorund him, if he remembered from his valiant action of jumping in front of an incoming spell on a stranger during a simple mistletoe event a few years ago. Still it sucked to have his joke and attempt at being lighthearted completely ignored. But it was rather unnesssary as it made his heart do awful things, which he could blame Jack for wholeheartedly for leaving him in this state. The only thing stopping Hanako from lashing out as a immediate reaction to Jack's worry was his not-so-recent acceptance that yes - this was the boy he liked and yes how uncomfortable it is that he was cared about to this extent and yes how annoying this whole thing was.

< It's like you didn't even heard a word I said with the hanging on thing.. >
He shaked his head, < You're forgetting you're talking to a healer intern. Don't you think I would know when I should or shouldn't be healed? > Frankly he would've rather been blasted with a confringo than have this conversation outloud at least. Healer intern. Blergh. Horrible - horrible thing to verbally bring up, as if it made it more real than it should have been.

Post round:
He didn't even want to explain what happened this round really. The power was there, the aim wasn't. At Jack's loud exclamation of Villa's name, just as the last second Hanako's instincts pushed him to look at their direction. Not knowing that his spell hasn't exactly left the tip of his wand just yet. He freezed - no laughter or smirk in sight as his heart dropped to gut. Even as Jack ( and Ara he supposed) dodged it, it hadn't brought Hanako relief.

<..sorry>

And his instincts surged to the front seat of his mind, holding on a tight grin as he pushed the side of his hair to the side dramatically. " Aha…I meant to do that. Wake up guys! Be alert, we got enough energy for another few rounds don't we? " Hanako raised an eyebrow at the exchange the two (Jack and Kim) were having. Was it that serious? Then again, with Jack - is has to be. Hanako was sure these two had never met before (and frankly he would like to keep it that way). They said they loved banters so… that was.. good right? Still, he wondered how long this would go on if no one else seems to interject. Ara seemed busy failing spells and being annoying with her depleting health, the other gryfindoors didn't seem to really mind that much. " You must excuse him, Kim" Hanako said with a dramatic sigh, much too exasperated to be considered genuine. " a few more days of banter with him and you will be thankful he's only talking this much" ,

< Jack, as much as I aaaddoooore hearing your voice - why are you picking apart what Kim's saying? Who knows what the Lion gang's social hiearchy works? Thats probably their normal. >

Why's she even here anymore.

It was funny seeing the fire-headed Gryffindor senior who hit her with a good Confringo get some bite back as the local cheap off brand of a senior (@Hanako Tone) almost hit her with another spell. Pity, it looked darn good.

What is going on with these fumbles that usually firsties would do? A part of her just wanted to melt into the ground and watch from there. Gosh this was tiring. What's with this duo's luck? Wasn't first stage embarrassment enough?

Ara heard @Jack Burnett call her name and merely shrugged at him. Nah, she got that, those two should deal with their own problems (like not ending up in the hospital wing with her).

She ate up whatever drama was going on between the viper seniors and two of the three Gryffindors, though. It was interesting to say the least.

Watching the old man (@Hanako Tone) wink was like watching a blobfish-horse hybrid lookin creature try to flirt. Disgusting.

Again the floor exploded in wooden shrapnel and splinters as Evelynn directed her next spell towards the youngest of the lot ahead. She almost felt bad in doing so. It was bad enough that as a fifth year, Sato had been paired up with herself and Rose. A fourth year wasn't even yet facing their OWLs, and yet Miss Villa had been both paired alongside and against a number of NEWT students. Either she was a child prodigy or had drawn a fantastically short lot; and given her rather mediocre contributions to the match thus far, Evelynn could only assume the latter.

Perhaps that was why the lioness had avoided directing attention and spells in the girl's direction initially. It seemed an unkindness when there remained adversaries who were more equally matched to her. Then again, few would ever charge Evelynn with being overly charitable. Whatever sense of pity she may have held for the youngest on the piste would eventually dissolve as necessity of strategy arose. Unfortunately, the explosion would prove just a bit too effective as several splintered shards propelled themselves back at Evelynn.

A pained suck of air accompanied the grimace that briefly crossed her countenance as the projectiles lodged into a leg. Crimson bloomed like Valentine roses embroidered along her skirt where it had been pinned in place. It was a small price to pay, however, and hardly a scratch compared to her recent backfire. Moreover, both pain and exhaustion began to wane and Evelynn noted how some smaller abrasions appeared to vanish. "My thanks." She didn't have to look to know that Rose had turned that exceptional talent for healing upon her.

Besides, her attention had been briefly directed elsewhere. If looks could kill, a mere smoke to daggers spell is all that would have been needed as Evelynn directed her hazy gray hues in a sidelong glance towards Kim. His commentary of mistakes and misses and the little pep-talk that accompanied it may have been well intended, but having it come from a borderline inept caster two years her junior sat well with her not at all. But as much as temptation urged her to direct him to hold his foolish tongue, she bit her own. The growing annoyance instead fueled a desire for decisive, unquestionable action, and the lidded glower she turned back upon the snakes was one that held the promise of their defeat.

Day 1 - Morning slot
What happened next... Aislin wasn't ready for it, to be honest. She thought she was getting used to following the chaos, tracing the wonky lines of errant spells and blinking through the lights show, but this was something else entirely. The thing was, this would have been a flashy round through the singular efforts of one duellist.

Everyone else was doing something normal enough, which wasn't to say it was uneventful. Rose nailing Hanako with a Blasting Curse was plenty eventful to be on the receiving end of, and Kim hit just about everyone with his Cracker Jinx, himself included, though the audience would be hard-pressed to figure out where any of the crackers absolutely crowding the stage had come from. Jack threw up a trusty shield with poor timing; the only danger to him snuck in from the sides. Ara turned her steady stream of healing on herself, soothing the worst of last round's aches. And Hanako tried to redeem Jack's missed blindfolds on a more focused scale, but something threw him off entirely, losing what would be his last cast to empty air.

Meanwhile, Evelynn was auditioning for a role in a fireworks show. In a flurry of sounds and colors and heat that was near-impossible to untangle, she conjured a deluge of crackers that all hit their marks, mixing with Kim's crackers to strike every Slytherin repeatedly. It was stunning and it was brutal. As soon as the stage cleared enough for Aislin to see where that had left everyone, she called a hasty, "Stop!" The duel had its first casualty, Hanako crumpling under the force of all those spells, which seemed like a perfectly reasonable limit to Aislin. She might have gone down from the last volley alone, even without the effects of earlier spells and creeping deterioration.

For a minute, the duellists could catch their breath while the healers on standby took care of Hanako. Slytherin especially looked like they needed it, though maybe it was less catching their breaths and more accustoming themselves to a new level of dread. Gryffindor looked pretty scary after that. "Okay, resume."

2025/26, Stage 2 Gryffindor vs Slytherin: Match 1
[quote]Image posted by the member

After a round of hanging back, Rose joined her teammates in a powerful move. All three of them went for offensive spells, Rose's Blasting Curse perfectly hitting its target. But it had barely hit Hanako before wizarding crackers exploded all over the other side of the stage, hitting all three of the Slytherins at least twice. The explosions on the other side of the stage were coordinated, and their synchronized success was satisfying enough that Rose couldn't bring herself to suppress a small smile.

And, in the aftermath of the explosions, as the duel was paused, Rose realized that no spells had come their way at all. It had been hard to decipher what exactly the Slytherins had done that round, but it clearly hadn't worked. Rose caught her breath, relieved that their early mistakes had been momentary lapses in their consistency, and that now they had been able to showcase the true strength of their house.

The redhead stood a little straighter as two duelists remained, Hanako whisked away to be cared for in the Hospital Wing. "If the bet is still on, we'd better start brainstorming some outfits," she said to her teammates, a glint in her eyes. It was a pretty tame taunt compared to what had been thrown around by her peers, but Rose usually wasn't the mischief-making type, and at the beginning of the duel had been too focused to fully back Evelynn's wager. However, now that they were winning, she couldn't help but indulge in a little pride. She was a lioness, after all.
