⊰ ── '✧ ( ❝ ADELYN SINCLAIR !! ❞
indentAdelyn simply couldn't take in all of the sights quickly enough. As she entered the Great Hall, being bumped and pushed forward every five seconds by other eager first years, Adelyn's green eyes sparkled. The floating candles, the bustling noise of experienced students... it was surreal. Adelyn was tempted to pinch herself to ensure herself that it wasn't all just a dream. Actually, she had been wanting to pinch herself since she was 9 years old. All of this seemed too good to be true.
indentAdelyn approached the front of the hall with the flood of first years, her attention turned entirely on to the headmaster with eagerness. She had a real fright the moment that a hat began to sing, but the relaxed and amused expression of her peers provided comfort, and even Adelyn began to giggle once her heartbeat had stopped going a mile a minute.
indentAdelyn found herself to be quite fidgity as each students name was called up, eager for her turn under the hat. However, she found herself just as happy for each students the moment their house was declared. She had discussed the houses with a few other first years on the train, but she wasn't entirely sure what house she desired to be in. Hufflepuff seemed nice, she was sure to make many friends there. Something about Slytherin made her a bit uneasy, but she attempted to stomach the feelings, pushing them out of her mind. What about Ravenclaw? They would be -
indent"Sinclair!"
indentAdelyn had hardly realized that she had been lost in thought when her head shot up, her heart gaining pace again. "Coming!" She called, which earned a few snickers from some older students, and confused looks by the younger ones. Gently weaving her way to the front, Adelyn beamed up at the headmaster before twirling around to sit herself down on the chair in front of the hall, cheeks flushed with excitement.
indentNow, having a hat placed on your head that can speak to you? That was something Adelyn had never experienced before in the "muggle" world (as she had heard it had been called). Once again, the presence of a voice within her head caused her to jump a little - earning another bout of chuckles by the few students who were watching. "Ah, Sinclair, is it? I've never heard that name here before... A muggle-born, I see. Well, no better way to start your family legacy than to see what house your partial too." The hat began. Adelyn was so excited that she couldn't help but move her hands around anxiously in her lap. Her eyes darted from table to table, attempting to find where her heart belonged. It appeared the hat knew better than she did.
indent"A kind soul, but much too fiery for Hufflepuff... your clever, but not in the ways that suit Ravenclaw..." Adelyn held her breath. Within seconds, two houses had been ruled out for her. That was two different timelines, gone in a flash. She noticed that she was receiving a bit more attention now as the hat thought, murmuring to her. "But I can sense a great deal of courage in you, and a desire to set change in the world. Well then, it can only be that the house you belong in is...
indent"GRYFFINDOR!"
indentCheers burst from the table cloaked in red, applauding the arrival of a new "lion". Adelyn was smiling so hard that her cheeks heart as she bounded over to the table, accepting the "congratulations" and, "I just knew you belonged here" with flustered, happy nods and high-fives. While Adelyn wasn't entirely sure what it was, she had to agree. Something about Gryffindor felt right to her. She felt that she belonged here.
"Fate whispered to her, 'you can never survive the storm'. She replied, 'I am the storm.'"

“Francis Witherell!” bellowed the hat.
From the crowd of eager infants, stepped another. The idea of having your fate left in the hands of a hat was strange, even for the Wizarding World. A student’s house was one of the most important decisions to be made, their house becoming their home over the course of the better part of a decade.
Just like the rest of the new blood, his head was humourously too small to fit the Sorting Hat. Instead, it sort of engulfed him, before its brim sat neatly on both of his ears.
In truth, Francis didn’t know much about the houses of Hogwarts other than Gryffindor and Hufflepuff. And only those because those were the houses of his predecessors. And if he knew one thing, it was that he didn’t want to be a badger. No, a lion sounded much more promising. Ravenclaw and Slytherin were out of the question. A stubborn acknowledgement that he must follow the footprints in the sand, rather than venturing out on his own path.
There was an unequivocal silence once the hat was on each student’s head. All of their untampered, glowing faces looking up at the individual in the hot seat, eagerly awaiting for the hat’s judgement.
And at once, the the matter was decided.

Aura couldn’t believe she would finally find out what house she was in! She practically could guarantee she was a Ravenclaw, but only the Sorting hat could tell. Her mum had been ecstatic upon learning of her acceptance to Hogwarts, being a Muggle (Yes, she picked up that term!) Aura had always been top of her class, getting stunning grades, being the teacher’s pet, the whole lot. It was all in her resume. Boys also flocked her because of her long, wavy red hair. Ravenclaws were, according to A History of Magic, intelligent peers, and Aura fit right in. She couldn’t be in Gryffindor, the brave, for she was afraid of nearly everything, a germaphobe if you may, but only because of her high level and quality of schooling. Hufflepuff wouldn’t see her as anything but an outsider, but of course they would become great friends That was just how Hufflepuff was, friendly and bubbly. Aura was instead a more reserved person. Slytherin was too-a booming voice cut her off. “LEE.” She immediately rushed forward to have the Sorting hat placed upon her head. She had been reading all summer, and hoped it would show. “Hmm...very peculiar. Intelligent, but with great ambition. Eh. Odd. Yes. But wishing to prove her intellect. I’d have to say...RAVENCLAW.” Aura breathed a sigh of relief. Her mother would be so proud of her. She hurried to join the Ravenclaw table, cheers echoing the hall. She beamed at her peers, and waited for other students to be sorted.
I tend to go on and on. Ooh, nice hair! You know, when I was younger, I had a hairstyle not unlike that. I am beautiful, don’t you think? Ooh, what a beautiful blue morpho! Don’t you love color! It fills our world with love!

Benjamin Cranford, better known as Ben to the few that knew him, sat with the rest of the unsorted children, a rapid tap of his shoe against the floor showing just what sort of anxiety he was feeling. He had been reading up on the history of the houses and he was certain he knew what house he belonged; Slytherin. They were the house of bad luck, right? He would fit right in; bad luck was all that he had ever encountered.
His rapid tapping caused his whole body to shake slightly and that event caused his square glasses to begin to slip down his nose, which he quickly pushed back up with his index finger. One by one, he watched his fellow age group make their way up and get assigned their houses, one after the other. Finally, there was the call of his very distinctive name.
"Cranford, Benjamin?" The booming voice of their headmaster rang out in the hall, causing his whole body to tremble with a start. Clearing his throat, he frantically hopped to his feet, taking a moment to straighten his robe. With quick steps, he brought his lean body up to stand in the place of the sorting hat, turning to look down on his fellow age-mates. He could hear his heart pounding in his ears and that was all he heard, that was until his head had been bestowed with the chattering cap, which quickly snapped his attention to its words.
"Oh... A first of a family? Yes I see. You have much to learn about yourself... Confused? Of course, you are! ...A Slytherin you think? Hmm I would disagree. You want acceptance. With support and encouragement, you'll learn your worth. I sense deep courage that's overwhelmed by excuses. Odd.. Odd."
A variety of the hat's words caused him to want to spit in retorts, but he was forced to hold his tongue. It was too early to get in trouble...
"Hot-headed now? You were only just trembling in your robe... Odd.. Confused. I only sense one path for you."
"...GRYFFINDOR!"
A sort of shock overtook him as he heard the hat's words... if not Slytherin, he would have thought Ravenclaw! Not Gryffindor. His feet seemed to be cemented to the floor, but as a nudge was felt, the boy moved down towards the table of red and gold, his face frozen in shock as he seemed to blank out the cheers and congratulations of his house-mates.

The pictures from Hogwarts: A History did little to properly show the grandeur of the castle. Felicity supposed that there were simply certain things that could not be replicated. She glanced around the Great Hall, paying fleeting attention to the snippets of conversation floating around her. Her fellow year-mates were excited and it could be heard in their voices as they chattered to one another. Others showed their wonder on their face as they stared agape or fidgeted with nerves. Even so, there was the select few who fell into neight categories and made no secret to hide it.
I wonder what their lives are like, Felicity thought to herself about the unimpressed bunch.
Eventually, she turned away from watching her colleagues and looked to the vast hall. The enchanted sky was wonderful, in her eyes, in how the silken clouds blended seamlessly into the stone columns of the castle. And the warmth that radiated from the candles soothed the ball of nerves Felicity had been ignoring until now.
One by one, fellow first years stepped up onto the dais to be sorted. The tattered sorting hat would cry out the name of one of the houses sometimes immediately, other times after some consideration. When Felicity's turn approached, she waited with bated breath, and...
I sense great determination in you, a wizened voice echoed in Felicity's mind.
She clutched the sides of the stool in surprised and fought the urge to look around stupidly. The hat! Who else could it be, silly? She chastised herself.
Yes, yes, indeed. It is I. Now... you are cautious and curious but I do not think Ravenclaw is the place for you, is it?
Felicity's heart rate quickened. What about Slytherin?
Slytherin? Yes, I see that you would do well there. And yet you have other qualities you possess that would make you better suited for...
"GRYFFINDOR!"
The Gryffindor table burst into polite cheers. After a professor lifted the sorting hat off of her head, Felicity wobbled over to her new house in muted shock. Gryffindor?
As she turned to face the boy next to her to say her greetings, she couldn't help but wonder. She had thought she'd known herself and where she would end up. Slytherin, she wanted. Although, Felicity supposed, the hat knew better than her with his mind tricks and centuries of experience.
For the rest of the night, she did not have the chance to think about this again, too lost in the flood of novelty.

Roxy yawned into her hand, lost in the crowd of first years. Her eyes traced the ceiling, as there was no way to peer over her significantly taller peers. It seemed as if the ceiling stretched for miles, illuminated by eerie, floating candles.
In her head, this was the telltale start of horror story. A gaggle of innocent children, coupled with the ghostly lighting and tables that splayed out into the void. Her stomach felt uneasy at the thought, and she regretted having spent her pocket money on sweets when she was on the train.
She shook herself out of the reverie, instead focusing on the students shuffling in front of her. It felt as if they were a impenetrable fortress, holding her from seeing the infamous Sorting Hat and her future professors.
Honestly, it made her peeved. She wanted to see the silly hat that her parents had raved about for years. Roxy had heard tall-tales from older relatives, but she rarely trusted from word of mouth. She had to see it for herself.
Feeling exceptionally bratty, she pushed herself to the front. She ignored the remarks of irritation and surprise, fully set on viewing the magical being in it's physical form. Unbeknownst to her, the hat had said her name. She watched its mouth move once, then twice, entranced by the movement.
"Roxy Redding." The last movement was when she finally registered her name being spoken.
The young girl quickly ran to the seat, eager to be sorted. When the hat was placed on her head, she used her hands to rudely pull it closer to her scalp.
"Slytherin!" There was no hesitation, and maybe it was partly from the fact that Roxy had gripped the hat so hard that it seemed as if it was wincing.
As she smugly walked to the Slytherin table, she thought to herself, "Mum and dad already called it the minute I boarded the train. My cousins owe me a galleon."

Sorting Ceremony 2019-2020
A little nervous and yet a little excited eleven year old Damion White proudly made his way to the Great Hall for the esteemed and well renowned sorting ceremony that would decide his fate- well the house that he would be sorted into. There were four houses: Gryffindor- the red house, Hufflepuff- the yellow house, Ravenclaw- the blue house and finally Slytherin- the green house. Well Damion had not thought of any house in particular. He was pretty much happy getting whatever house the sorting hat would give him. He had not known what was going to happen, and he was anxious for it. He had been standing there and looking at the others who were getting placed in a house after having the talking sorting hat put on their head.
Nervously and clearly very unsurely, Damion waited for his name to be called. "White, Damion" He heard the headmaster called out his name. He let out a sigh and with his steps shaking and a nervous movement he made to the seat where he was supposed to be seating for the sorting hat to be put on his head. As the sorting hat was placed on his head, he started to shake a little. Something that indicated that he was very nervous. Damion was thinking about anything else than the talking hat on his head. "RAVENCLAW" The sorting hat said and a relived sigh left Damion's mouth as he was going to be able to get down from the area where he was sitting to be sorted. He moved to the Ravenclaw table and smiled at the fellow students there.

Sorting Ceremony 2019-2020
Esmay seemed as if she was carried into the room by the crowd of students around her and she hardly felt like she was walking... in fact, she felt like she was floating. She had constantly kept shaking her head as they made their way up into the magical school just to be sure that she wasn't in a dream. As they swept into the Great Hall, Esmay had to practically force herself to not let her jaw drop at the magnificent ceiling and floating candles.
She had hardly noticed anything but the lavish decorations until she abruptly came to a stop at the front of this incredulous room. Her heart rate increased as she realized how many people were looking at all of them. She gulped down her nerves and listened intently to the Solomon Lear who she had received letters from. She bit her lip in nerves, but began to jitter excitedly. She listened to the hushed whispers around her but could hardly hear anything. She hoped she would be placed somewhere fun like the Gryffindor folk: They seem rather fun... and I'm brave she thought to herself. Or maybe with Hufflepuff: I love friendships and I'm loyal enough!
Without being able to consider the next house, her name was called out. Caster, Esmay. Without freezing, Esmay forced herself to walk confidently up to the stool in front of everyone. She nodded thankfully to Solomon. As she sat down, she began to tremble. What if I am put in the wrong place...What if I'm an outcast in my own house? There's no way a hat could -. The hat chuckled beneath her. Esmay gulped in fear. She couldn't hear anything the hat was saying to her, only the pounding of her chest was heard and she wondered if everyone else could hear it too...
RAVENCLAW
Unaware of cheers, Esmay stood up slowly and turned to the long table of blue robes. She frowned slightly as she stood unsure if this was truly her house. But the hat cannot be wrong... She forced a grin and began to trot down to the table and took a seat next to some of the people she came in on the train with. You are where you belong. She found herself whispering calming thoughts to herself the whole time and hoped she and the hat were right.

Kali stood still, watching the others be sorted. This doesn’t seem too bad... she thought. I mean, I think I know what’s going on now, and that’s more than I can usually say. She laughed a little bit to herself. She rubbed her scar self consciously as she looked up, listening for the next name.
“CHALLENGE!”
Kali looked around for a second. Who... Oh! That’s me! She walked quickly up to the hat, her face burning slightly.
“Okay then, here goes nothing,” She murmured to herself as the hat was placed on her head.
The hat was silent for a moment, thinking. “Hmmm... Where shall I put you? You’ve got a few Gryffindor qualities, but not many, not enough... and you’re much too hyper and feisty to be in Hufflepuff... Not a Slytherin either. No, definitely not... And you’ve got plenty of wit and creativity, very original, so...”
“RAVENCLAW!”
Kali was stunned for a second, but she shook it off and walked over to the Ravenclaw table, smiling. I don’t know why it put me with the smart people, but I’m not complaining, she thought happily. She looked around the table, eager to introduce herself to others.

Sorting Ceremony 2019-2020
Brodie stared up at the ceiling in awe, watching the candles that floated above his head as if he was about to float up and grab them. His gaze took it all in, every streak of colour or light in the air, every brick in the walls and every painting of witches and wizards of the past. He straightened his robes slightly, he wasn’t vain or self continue really but the last thing he wanted was to trip over the robes simply because he wasn’t used to them. As the column began to move one by one towards the judgement of the sorting hat, Brodie began to analyse each of the tables around him. Four chains of students adorned in black robes lined with red, blue, yellow and green. His mother had been a Hufflepuff, perhaps he’d done their yellow and wear the badger proudly? He knew he wasn’t a Gryffindor… or at least he thought he wasn’t.
“Brodie Harkness” He learned called from the front, Suddenly the nerves he hadn’t felt before started to settle in. He was no longer there to gawk but to be gawked at as he sat in front of a whole school and was judged for his personality and likability.
He took his place on the chair, his eyes looking first at the cluster of new students he had just left but quickly rising to the candles once more to avert eye contact. The hat was lowered, It took a moment, then he heard it.
“Ah, where to begin. Cunning, very cunning. Could even so you care about self preservation rather than any pride. Far more of a Slytherin than a Gryffindor, more a breeze than a lion. But not truly selfish no, you seek to help others in fact. Perhaps a Hufflepuff for you? Hmmmmm, you like that. Like your mother you think? No, no not the same. You are a seeker, a scholar. Creative and productive with your care not simply words in the wind. I know…”
“Ravenclaw!”
Brodie was staggered for a second, he had never considered raven-claw in much depth. He never considered himself above average in his intelligence, even if he did spend almost every hour reading. But that was mainly either biographies or fictional novels, not textbooks unless he had to. The hat was lifted from his brow and it took a moment before he realised it was his turn to leave. Brodie rose awkwardly, nodding to the teacher who held the hat in respect before walking over to the table of Black and blue. The cheers and applause made him smile awkwardly, he never got that kind of attention. He often made friends, but never stood out to mass groups never mind a whole hall. He took a seat and looked to either side of him, smiling a but more confidently and waiting for a chance to meet his fellow students.
