It might not have been the ideal day; it was grey and rainy and chilly, but it was her's and a little rain and chill wasn't going to ruin it. She'd made herself comfy on the ledge of one of the little strange windows of the covered corridors in the Courtyard. Taliesin had had to come to a compromise somehow if she wanted to enjoy being outdoors for her birthday. Ideally, she'd have run off to the Lake or found a tree to squirrel herself away in for the afternoon, but such compromises have to be made when you're born in the Spring. And Spring means rain, so this would have to do. It really was quite nice having the rain to background her reading.

Though, she couldn't deny that it felt strange, not being home for her birthday. Not that she was doing anything she wouldn't have been doing anyway if she were home. But it felt weird to not be woken up by Nanny with a special birthday sweetie for breakfast and maybe an outing somewhere exciting if the weather was good; then there would be a dinner with her favorites and gifts and it would be a nice day.

She'd still gotten gifts. Her parents had sent her what they wanted her to wear for the spring dance coming up (not really a gift in her option, but she hadn't expected anything less), her Governess had sent her some new music, and Nanny had sent a series of books she thought she'd like (the first of which she was reading now) along with a tin of Nanny's sweets. They'd all arrived last night, which had made the morning of feel a little less strange.

It was a little difficult keeping her attention on the story in her lap though, as her thoughts wandered off in different directions. Part of her had hoped she might've made a set of friends by now to celebrate with. She'd never had a birthday with friends before. Maybe next year, it would be a sunny and warm day, where she'd have lot of friends and they'd go picnicking or something. That, she imagined, would be quite a lovely day.

Skylar was walking through the courtyard when she catches a flash of red. Curious, she pauses and turns, only to be greeted by a quiet looking girl with a head of red-golden curls. Skylar tilts her head in interest at the girl. It is not everyday you see someone with such vibrant curls like the girl. Not that she can really say anything, given that her hair is quite literally bright blue. Bet no ones sees that often either. After pondering whether she should approach the girl, Skylar ultimately decides to move closer and greet the mysterious student. She feels she must have seen the student before, but not often. She must be in a different house then.

As Skylar moves closer to the red-head, she notices that the girl seems a little... down. Her face betrays nothing of her internal emotions, yet her posture and demeanor seems off in a way. Not in the typical sad way most people would be, but almost as if she is wishing for something. Careful not to startle the student, Skylar gently sits down next to her. She locks eyes with the girl and gives a friendly smile.

"Hello there! I just saw you from a distance and wanted to tell you your hair looks extremely beautiful. I am Skylar. Skylar Blue. How about you?" She introduces. She does not want to immediately drop the bomb and ask why the girl seemed so down. Contrary to popular belief, Skylar can be socially aware when she has to. Not every Gryffindor flounces around with no awareness of their social surroundings. Well, Skylar does act like that most of the time, but at least she is conscious of it. Snapping out of her thoughts, she turns and smiles at the girl, hoping the student does not mind her sudden appearance.

Taliesin absentmindedly skimmed her nail over the page edges of her book as her eyes repeatedly traced over the same passage:
"You can forget about taking me back there... I’m tired of being told what to do, and of being too clean, and of not being able to make a mess."
So far, the little boy in her story sounded an awful lot like the voice in her head sometimes did. Though he seemed to hold much more distain for the obviously posh life he'd left behind compared to herself. He was also much younger then she was, though, and little children do tend to feel things quite wholly. After all, she was quite tired of all those things too, but no one saw her running off to try to blackmail a troll into keeping her. Could one even blackmail an actual troll? Muggle stories often don't realize how difficult such things actually are...

Her thought were interrupted by a shock of blue settling in her periphery; stark and shiny against the back drop of grey stone and skies as she looked up from her book. All that blue settled around the shoulders of a girl she vaguely recognized from class. Which class, she wasn't entirely sure, but it was difficult to not notice someone with that kind of hair. It was pretty, and it reminded her of that one upperclassmen with pink hair that had helped her when she'd gotten lost in the corridors. Except that was bright pink hair.

Her brain buffered a moment before it finally caught up to her that this other girl was talking to her, complimenting her, "Thank you. Yours is very pretty too." she offered, albeit perhaps a little awkwardly. Taliesin was still working on honing her social skills. She couldn't help but smile a bit, amused, as the other introduced herself. The other's named seemed a bit on the nose, but it was kind of cute. It seemed to suit her, how she leaned into the whole theme of herself, "Its a pleasure to meet you, Skylar Blue. I'm Taliesin Annwyn." she responded, closing her book on her finger as a temporary bookmark before offering her, now free, hand.

"Its a pleasure to meet you, Skylar Blue. I'm Taliesin Annwyn."

Skylar grins as she shakes hands with Taliesin. She had a unique name, that is for sure. Skylar mentally repeats Taliesin in her head multiple times, keeping mind to not mispronounce it. However, the name Annwyn does sound familiar. She remembers the name faintly from one of her tutor's lesson. The Annwyns were well known purebloods, among other important figures she had to memorize. Her parents, who worked in the Ministry, probably mentioned them once or twice as well. That paired with the quiet discipline Taliesin hold herself in, it is not hard to put two and two together.

Skylar has heard from several of her pureblood friends that their childhoods were... not the most pleasant. She does not wish to assume, but if Taliesin also experiences the life that most pureblood children unfortunately have, Skylar hopes to at least bring some comfort to her. It saddens her when she hears about her friends' neglected childhood. She firmly believes that kids should be allowed to kids. Many pureblood families, even some wizard-borns like her extended family, tend to overload their children with the responsibility of their legacy. But alas, it is nothing she can change. The old families will continue their traditional ways, and she has only lived for twelve years. The only thing she can do is be there for those who have no one by them. Skylar could almost hear her dad sighing next to her. He always said Skylar had too much of a tendency to 'take people under her wing'. It is not your position to play savior, dear. Sometimes, it is just not a burden you should carry at such a young age. Skylar does not know why she always feels so protective of the people she cares about, or even people she barely knows. Too righteous, too loyal, too easily manipulated. The voices inside her head whisper. Voices that sound suspiciously like her aunt. That woman. She is grateful that her parents basically cut ties with the rest of their family. She already rolls her eyes at the passive aggressive letters she gets on her birthday, no need for more time with those stuck up pricks.

Snapping out of her internal monologue of family morals, Skylar turns to Taliesin again. Family drama is something she is not fond of thinking about. Maybe that is why she is so eager to talk to others. She never got to have a close sibling relationship, or even a close cousin relationship. It has always been her dad, her mom, and her. And that had been enough, until it was not. She really needs to stop spiraling now, so Skylar focuses on Taliesin and her surroundings. Her eyes drift towards the book in the girl's hands and tilts her head in interest.

"Say, what book are you are reading? It seems quite interesting. I do enjoy a good book, and I have been searching for an interesting read for a while now."
