Through An Open Window closed

Charlie's eyes went wide as the Slytherin boy told him about how strict his old school had been. Control over the color of the students' hair? Banning girls from wearing make up? The concept was utterly and completely alien to him. "Blimey... that really is strict," the Ravenclaw exclaimed with a sudden newfound appreciation for his old primary school. "Did they let you do anything at all for your own enjoyment?" His old school in Leeds had a number of extra curricular activities for students to join, not that Charlie had ever been one to join in on school groups. The idea of spending any more time there than he needed to...

Adohiro took out a small post card to show him, showing a photograph of what seemed to be a wooded area with cute little moss-covered statues poking up out of the ground. To Charlie, they looked like stone babies, which he guessed was the idea given the explanation that Adohiro gave him.

"Well, Leeds is a rather large city," he replied when Adohiro asked him about his home. "One of the largest in England actually, so there's plenty to do. Not that I ever really go out too much, unless it's with my family. I'm more of a stay at home and play video games guy." Still he went into detail about some of Leeds leading attractions, like the Discovery Centre he went to on a class field trip last year, and how he and his family would go to Light Nights every year. "There's all sorts of lights and sounds all over the place. They project onto the buildings, they're in the trees, it's truly something."

"There were several fun activities like the cooking club that cooked delicious free food for the school, boy scouts, and a few others I do not remember. I was part of the Student Council as the treasurer and the archery team. They were both fun, the student council was a bit boring, however."  He told the other boy. "Also my school had a crazy rule on the length of boy's haircuts if it was past the chin they needed to cut it! Luckily it didn't affect me at all so it never mattered to me but a lot of people complained." He told the other boy smiling. He would hear about Leeds which he believed he read about it somewhere from his older brother's books in his personal library. He believed he remembered some of the pictures of the many statues they saw. "I have seen a few photos of the statues in Leeds from my brother's books. They were interesting and I liked the photos, but I was not interested in the historical factual stuff to it. I find history quite boring." He would tell him as he glanced out at the window. "What video games do you play? I play Elder Scrolls Online."

Student council and archery? It was a good thing Charlie's father would never be able to come to Hogwarts, because the man might just start lecturing him about how Adohiro Moira was exactly the type of boy he should be aspiring to emulate. He certainly seemed involved and disciplined - or at least had been at his old school - and simply everything Charlie was not. It wasn't his fault that all school activities seemed dreadfully boring to him. Why should he spend all day at school, only to stay even longer just so he could blow into a tuba or watch caterpillars evolve? Even here at Hogwarts, nothing had caught his eye yet. He'd much rather retire to his common room or the grounds for the evening and relax.

When Adohiro mentioned the statues throughout Leeds, Charlie offered a slight shrug. There were certainly sculptures throughout the city and in the museums, though he hardly had paid too much mind to them before when they weren't lit up for Light Nights, but it was the next things the Slytherin had said that got responses. "Me too, it's just dreadful! My muggle history classes were bad enough, and while I'd hoped History of Magic would be better, I frankly just don't care about gargoyle strikes."

But there was one more thing Adohiro had said. A question. A question that piqued his interest in a way no one else at Hogwarts had yet, for thus far, no one else he'd met at Hogwarts knew about video games. "You're a gamer?" he asked, wondering how many others there were in the school. He obviously wasn't the only muggleborn student, and Adohiro proved that there were even pureblood wizards who were. Of course it didn't matter much since muggle technology wouldn't work at the school, something that unfortunately had stopped him from smuggling a certain handheld system in his trunk. Still he began excitedly listing off all the games he had spent his pre-Hogwarts days playing in his bedroom, like Final Fantasy, Skyrim, Minecraft, Call of Duty, and Pokemon to name a few. "Of course, my dad thinks it's a complete waste of time, but it's not my fault I prefer RPG's to the RFL," he explained, not quite knowing if Adohiro was familiar enough with rugby to know what the RFL was. "We should definitely play together sometime, over holiday, I mean."

"Have you tried archery? It is pretty fun at times, but it made my hands hurt and sore. I did it for two years and I quit it. I couldn't stand it." He would smile softly at him. "I really hated the Korean history I needed to learn, the teachers were always stuffy and boring. They did not make history fun, I wanted to learn fun or interesting, morbid facts about history." He would voice his opinion. "I hate the magic of history class too, why should I care about something that had nothing to do with me or my ancestors. We should learn about our current history instead. We will forget about those from the past." He would sigh. When he heard his question about gaming he would nod. "I play online video games. There used to be these internet cafes and I use to spend time playing video games in elementary and a bit of my middle school there with friends. We did online MMOG games, though. I also like open world games such as Skyrim and Elder Scrolls Online which I stated already. I did play Halo Reach too but I sucked at it. But we should play video games in our break. If you want, I can smuggle a personal hotspot next time and we can play some games. I have an extra Nintendo switch too, we can play secretly."

Charlie involuntarily cringed at the question of whether or not he had tried archery. It didn't seem interesting at all to him. Where was the joy in standing in one place and shooting an arrow at target? What did you get out of it? And would he even be any good at it? He wasn't one for athletics, he didn't do sports at his old school - and he had no desire to try out Quickdish here at Hogwarts - he'd only ever played football in a peewee league for about two months when he was five before quitting. Of course if it were anything like his first-person shooters he'd played at home, he might actually do quite well. He always did have a knack for those types of games. Although this thought did nothing to answer his question about fun.

He listened intently as Adohiro talked more about the games he would play, trying to decide what they could play online together come the winter holidays when they each went home to their families. Although one thing Adohiro had said did make him pause and consider. "I thought muggle technology didn't work at Hogwarts?" It was what he had been told when his Hogwarts letter had been delivered to him. And while he hadn't remembered everything about the four houses when he got on the Hogwarts Express, he certainly had remembered that all summer long. Saying goodbye to his systems for months had not been something he'd looked forward to in becoming a wizard. But surely a pureblood wizard would know that... unless there was something Charlie had been unaware of? "Or did you mean something else..."

Looking down at the table, Charlie now had another completed airplane ready for takeoff, and one sheet of paper left. "Last chance to learn, by the way. It's now or never."

"It might work to get a WiFi box unless they have a barrier that prevents Muggle items, but again some people packed clothes from the Muggle World. I will buy a Wifi portable Box and a few video games and see if it works. The worst is that it won't work at all and we will just waste my money." He told him and he would pick up the piece of paper and try to fold it. He would copy the style of it and he soon had finished it he would pick it up and throw it out the window. (Feel free to say if it succeeded or not). He was a bit worried he would fail in front of a person, that would be embarrassing for something so simple as folding pieces of paper. It was sort of like the Japanese art style, origami, in a way since it really mattered how you folded each angle the measurements of it. Even if it looked simple, one mishap of folding it wrong would be extremely dire. "I know, I wish this place allowed phones, laptops, and other gaming stuff. It is kinda boring without it and I really hate it. Maybe we should do like a gargoyle strike or something? Demand that we should have muggle items!"
