Of course, definitely.” He replied to her “I’d be more than happy to send some owls every now and then to stay in touch. Apart from that I’m pretty sure we’ll run into each other at Ravenclaw Tower as well, don’t you think?”

Katherine was ecstatic to hear that. She finally made a friend and he didn't think she was a total dafty or a total weirdo! 'See? it's not that hard Kathy sides he seems to look happy' She smiled as she thought to herself. "Yeah? well I'm very happy to hear that from ye! To be completely honest I didn't think I'd make any here and I was actually thinkin you'd ignore ye ken?, but ye didn't so...thanks!", she said to him with a bright smile. Katherine was telling the truth about what she said after all. She didn't really have friends before. Sure she had "friends" before Hogwarts but she only saw them at school and they never really talked out of school. Katherine would of rather had the library or a good book to keep her company then to hold her attention. She was known to be smart and of course that brung people over to her if they needed answers but she was more of a listener. She could hold a conversation of course but she wasn't exactly good at it. Which is why she is so astounded that she actually made a new friend so soon, not that she was complaining. Actually far from it.

Pulling her attention back to the table was his laugh after she mentioned the 3 year old remark. It was her first time hearing him laugh and it made her smile a bit bigger, it was infectious after all. She was glad she could make her new found friend laugh. To see her friend happy well enough made her down right excited. Though she could see him swallowing almost like a lump in his throat, almost like he was thinking of something bittersweet after the laugh. Katherine of course did not want to be nosy after all so she did keep quiet and kept the question in her mind. 'I hope he's okay...Don't you dare ask ye nosy thing, ma would scold ye if ye asked for bein nosy' She thought as she shook her head and listened in to what he was saying or rather what he gave her.

At least it smells familiar, although I don’t really know like what. Hope you like it. On the count of three?”

She looked down at the plate filled with the cone and fork with an slight expectation of answers from this questionable food. "Ay laddie, Lets figure out this mystery out once and for all.", She chuckled as she picked up her fork and then poked the cone, amusing her self as she tried to figure out this still questionable texture from this food. She gave her own form of an anxious breath when she even bent down to sniff it, though to her it didn't even smell familiar. 'Maybe it's a wizard thing he's had before....' she seemed to think. She gulped in anticipation before she turned to Vincent and had her gaze set as if she was on on a mission. "Ay on three. One....Two....." She grimaced a little hoping that she wouldn't be exactly repulsed at the taste. "Three", She said as she broke off a piece of the light green cone with the blue filling together, wanting the whole experience after all. She brought the piece to her lips and opened her mouth and set the piece of food on her tongue waiting for the type of flavor to explode on her tongue.....

While waiting for Kathy to either accept or decline his proposal to simultaneously share this new experience, Vincent looked around to see if anyone else was eating the weird looking cones. To his slight concern he saw no one. He did however notice a few fellow housemates intently scrutinizing Kathy and him, apparently eagerly awaiting their judgement on the food. Kathy and he were obviously not the only ones who were reluctant towards trying something they didn't know. He gestured to the other to grab one for themselves, but no one actually seemed willing to give them a try.

“I can’t blame them to be honest.” Vincent frowned at the thought, but didn’t get the time to elaborate on it because in the meantime, Kathy had accepted the proposal. Still a little weary he firmly poked his fork in the cone and used his knife to cut off a sizeable chunk of the tip, making sure he included some of the filling as well. As he applied pressure, some of the filling spilled from the other end on the plate. "That's odd," Vincent thought. "More than anything else it looks like thick whipped cream. With chunks." He lifted the fork and closely examined the chunk on the business end of it. He took a whiff, again noticing the vaguely familiar aroma he still failed to identify. The idea he knew the smell and, judging by him reacting to it, it apparently didn't refer to something he despised, set him at ease a little.

"Okay, stop being such a wuss. The worst that can happen is that you don't like it's taste." he thought to himself as he moved the fork towards his mouth and waited for Kathy to finish counting.

"Ay on three. One....Two....."

Vincent glanced at Kathy and saw her grimace. "Seems like I'm not the only one fearing the outcome of this." Vincent smirked as he thought to himself. "Let's do this."

"Three"

He opened his mouth and carefully bit the chunk off the fork. He cautiously started chewing, watching Kathy do the exact same with equal cautiousness. The cone itself was pleasantly warm and indeed crunchy. It had a rather nondescript, slightly salty taste and it's airy texture strongly resembled French pastry. In fact, Vincent was willing to bet it in fact was just that: French pastry, with pigment added to change its color. The filling didn’t hold any secrets in the end either, except for the fact it had absolutely nothing in common with whipped cream. As soon as its flavor hit his taste buds, he knew what he was eating. Once again he burst out in laughter.

"Really," he thought. "How easily can one be put off when things are different from what one is used to. And what is worse, how could I have let myself get spooked by this, just because of its color." Rather than the filling being a mashed mix of exotic types of food, whether or not with a magical touch, it was something he had eaten before. And like its crust it too was pigmented, which explained why he couldn't identify it in the first place. The pigment simply had slightly altered the original smell. There was no two ways about this, this was nothing else than mushroom ragout. Weirdly blue colored mushroom ragout, sure, but mushroom ragout nonetheless. Admittedly a deliciously prepared one at that but still only just mushroom ragout.

Vincent couldn’t help feeling somewhat disappointed after this discovery. He had expected, or maybe even hoped, to discover a new and preferably good tasting type of food. Instead he ended up eating something he already knew. He swallowed the  bite, again admiring the excellent taste. He hoped Kathy had a taste for mushrooms as well, or else she’d be unpleasantly surprised in  a second. “Wow,” he said to Kathy, still laughing at his own silliness. “I didn’t see this one coming at all. Instead of a magical fruit cone it’s just mushroom ragout in a French pastry cone with some pigment added for effect. That’s a bit of a disappointment actually, be it a tasty one. I have to admit I like it. A lot.” He shook his head and took another bite all the while looking at Kathy who was trying her first bite and changed his tone. “Unless… what does yours taste like?” he asked teasingly, while watching her reaction to the food. “Does yours taste like mushrooms as well? And what's more, do you like it, or shall I make you that scone after all?”

The cone and the thick cream was oddly chilled to touch on her tongue. Though as soon as it touched her tongue she knew exactly what flavor this was. Katherine's lips puckered and her eyes started to water from the sourness. While this was going on she watched a Vincent just busted out laughing, almost as if he knew what the flavor was....did he know it was this? 'Did the laddie know it was going to be this?' she grimaced as she tried to chew or rather at least swallow the bloody thing. It was like she tasted the freshet and juiciest but sourest lemon on the farms at Plant City. It even tasted like it had chunks of lemons in it for heaven's sake! Katherine wanted to spit it out of course but as she looked at Vincent, she sighed mentally. 'If he can get it down then so can you Kathy' she grimaced a bit as she tried to swallow it.

She could hear him laughing as she swallowed the extremely sour bite. However once it went down her throat it was like the sour lifted and all she could taste was sweetness. "Such an unusual aftertaste..." she Mumbled as she shuddered, not expecting the sweetness to cover her mouth like she drank an overbearing lemonade from both sides of the spectrum just at different times. She gripped the table and shuddered once more at the memory of the sourness and just savored the sweetness for right now. She then looked over to Vincent as he said something.

“I didn’t see this one coming at all. Instead of a magical fruit cone it’s just mushroom ragout in a French pastry cone with some pigment added for effect. That’s a bit of a disappointment actually, be it a tasty one. I have to admit I like it. A lot."

Her jaw dropped as she looked at him. Were you telling her that you ended up with something tasty while she apparently got the bad end? what was this a wizard version of the muggle game 'Bamboozled'? Katherine tried that game once since her parents were amazed at the many flavors however Katherine always got the bad once no matter how she tried. It was almost like magic that she didn't get a good one....wait....' did ma and da cheat?!?' she thought before she concentrated once again to Vincent as he spoke.

"Does yours taste like mushrooms as well? And what's more, do you like it, or shall I make you that scone after all?”

Okay that does it she had to tell him of these mystery cones of chance. "Laddie I most certainly did not! It was like eating the most sourest bloody lemon I've had in my entire life ye ken?" She was ranting a bit however she wasn't angry after all she did just satisfy her curiosity. Though she did not want to bite the blasted thing again even if it meant tasting the now sugary sweetness of the after taste. "They're like a cone of chance laddie and I think I got a bad one while you on the other hand got a good one, maybe it's random and when it's good ye something you know and like...hmmm.. want to taste the bad one?" Katherine held out her plate to Vincent seeing if he wanted to try the sour cone. "While you decide I on the other hand would love to have a scone right now..."

Vincent, very much enjoying the glorious taste of the expertly prepared mushroom filling, looked in awe at Kathy's reaction to the food. The second the piece she had torn off of the cone touched her tongue, her mouth wrinkled in serious distaste and tears appeared in her eyes as if she had bitten a huge chunk out of an unripe lemon. Apparently the food was not to her liking. Not even a little bit. “And it seems like that could very well be the understatement of the year.” Vincent thought.  Despite her obvious dislike though, she fought to swallow it and keep it down. Vincent wondered why. If she didn't like it, she could have discretely spit it out in one of the linen napkins that lay in abundance on the table. But then, before he could think of a logical explanation, something dawned on him. Something that made his cheeks flush with shame. He was still smiling from the pleasant, delicious surprise his cone turned out to be, and he realized that might not what Kathy thought he was smiling about. "She must think I am making fun of her. Or even worse, that I tricked her into eating something disgusting. She probably doesn't want to play the victim and that could very well be why she ate the bloody chunk instead of spitting it out. And rightfully so, if the roles were reversed I'd do the exact same."

His smile immediately disappeared at the thought of this and his face took on a worried expression. He regretted his teasing tone and cursed his inattentiveness, even though there was no way he could have known this was going to happen. If anything he should have waited for her to taste it before making the careless remark about how delicious he thought it was, even though there was no way he could have known what had just happened. "Well, too late for that now." he said to himself with a thoughtful look at the curiously colored, mysterious food on his plate. "I'll explain it to her and hopefully she'll understand I wasn't making fun of her. I do wonder what the thing on her plate tastes like, though. Considering the reaction it provoked it must have been really bad." Before he could utter a single word though, Kathy spoke up, apparently at least somewhat recovered from whatever she had experienced.

"It was like eating the most sourest bloody lemon I've had in my entire life ye ken?"

She seemed a bit upset about what had just happened, something Vincent could very well understand. He had no idea why and how, but she definitely got the worst end of this deal. Still, much to his relief, she didn't seem angry at him as she continued.

"They're like a cone of chance laddie and I think I got a bad one while you on the other hand got a good one, maybe it's random and when it's good ye something you know and like..."

Vincent considered this remark for a second. "Interesting concept," he thought. "but why would they have put these on the table at what was supposed to be a feast?"  Before he could ponder the thought Kathy asked him something, so he focused his attention back to her, making a  mental note to look into this later on.

"hmmm.. want to taste the bad one?"

She offered him her plate and looked expectantly at him as she said this, obviously curious to see his reaction. She waited a few seconds before she continued.

"While you decide I on the other hand would love to have a scone right now..."

Vincent scowled, looking at the plate. He wasn’t really embracing the idea of tasting the thing, not at all even, but he nevertheless had already decided he’d try it anyway. "To be honest, I don't really want to try it, considering the effect it had on you" he said to Kathy. "But I'm in solidarity with you. Plus, my curiosity got the better of me, so I am going to anyway. In a minute though, let me get you that scone first." He took a clean plate from the pile on the table, slid a scone on a cake server and then onto the plate. He grabbed a knife, skillfully cut the scone horizontally in half and smeared a generous amount of strawberry marmalade on it. Next he pulled the pitcher with clotted cream towards him, scooped up a large dollop of the thick clotted cream and carefully placed it one side of the scone.

Satisfied with his handy work Vincent added a fork and set the plate on the table next to Kathy, reluctantly taking her plate with his other hand. He placed it in his lap and remained silent for a few seconds before taking a deep breath. He looked up and started to speak. "Look Kathy, I want to clear something up. I noticed your look of dismay when I started laughing right at the moment you took the full hit of your snack’s sourness. Please believe me when I tell you I did not laugh at you, nor did I know what would happen when you took that bite. Mine really tasted like mushrooms. Honestly. You can try if you want. Anyway, I don't want you to think I had anything to do with this.” With that said he turned his attention to the plate in his lap, took his fork, tore a large chunk off of the weird cone and without hesitation stuffed it in his mouth.

The second he started chewing it hit him. He clenched his teeth as he felt his lips shrivel from the intensely sour taste. His hands gripped the fabric of his jeans so tightly his knuckles turned white.  "Lovely." he mumbled with tears running down his cheeks. "Not sour at all." As he said it he burst out in laughter. He quickly swallowed the acidic chunk without chewing it any more and added: "Whoa, this must be hands down the most sour anything I have ever eaten. So gross.” He wiped the tears from his cheeks as he put the plate on the table and pushed it away. “Yeah,” he promised himself. “That was a one-time deal only, he wasn't going to try another one anytime soon. Maybe as a dare in a game of truth or dare, but other than that he'd do anything in his power to steer clear from those devious things.” He turned his attention to Kathy once more. “That is the last time I have voluntarily eaten one of those things. Cross my heart and hope to die. I pray the scone tastes a whole lot better than whatever that was, Kathy.” He said, pointing at the plate he had pushed away. He looked around, noticing more and more people getting up from the table and leaving the great hall. “Say, how about we try to find the Ravenclaw common room after you have finished your scone? It seems about time we did, as it’s starting to get dark outside and I assume we’ll both need a little time to get settled. And to be honest, after this last bite I’m not so hungry anymore anyway.”

Katherine felt a bit bad as Vincent made her a scone. She didn't want to force him to try it. 'Was it rude to ask?' she pondered sincerely as she looked at the table with a look of curiosity. Though before she could say anything to Vincent or apologize, he handed her the plate of the delicious pastry and started to talk again.

Anyway, I don't want you to think I had anything to do with this.”

Oh now she felt quite bad for her earlier reaction. She believed her new found friend obviously about what he said. Katherine could see the truth in his eyes as he spoke and she found him to be a kind and sweet kid. So obviously he wasn't lying, she honestly didn't think he would put her through something like that. 'Ay he's such a sweet laddie, what luck I have to end up to have him as my friend' she thought to herself and started to smile warmly as he said his apology. "It's alright Vincent, I knew ye meant well." She smiled a bit more. "Honestly if I saw myself with lips puckered up like a fish, I'd of laughed too ye ken." Katherine told him as he started to take a chunk of the cone.

Okay now that was a sight to see! as soon as his lips puckered and he tried to "convince" her how "not sour" it was, Katherine started to die in laughter along with Vincent. Katherine first put the plate on the table before she thought 'I can see why he laughed at me if I looked anything like that! Ay what a sight we are for sore eyes!' She curled up a bit and her arms wrapped around her stomach as she laughed even harder at their own silliness of apologies and sour cones. As he promised to never to eat those bloody cones she started to wipe away the tears of laughter that had watered out of her eyes while she was laughing. "Ay laddie! it'll be way better then the disgusting cone", she had to restrain a few giggles before she coughed to make them go away but it did nothing to get rid of her smile. When he told her about finding the common room she started to get excited. She would finally see more of the castle! "I would love too laddie!", she smiled before she took a hurried big bite out of her scone not wanting to waste the wee tasty pastry but still rather go with her new friend to explore. "Sorry had to rid myself of that overload of sourness and sweetness laddie, anyways tally ho mate! It's getting late but I have a feeling our adventure together is only starting", she said with a sly grin while she began to stand up from the table.

Andrea had a terrible train ride. There was the gloomy boy the overly perky judgmental girl and.... well actually Brooklyn wasn’t terrible. Too bad she was put in hufflepuff with that judge pest. She grumbled to herself. Of all the houses RAVENCLAW? It might seem perfect for a nerd like her but it wasn’t. It meant being around naturally intelligent people. The non fakers. The genuinely successful. The ones who didn’t have panic attacks every time they read too much. It fed into her inferiority complex far too much for her liking. Oh well. What could you do? She decided to make acquaintances. Nudging the person to her left she whispered “Could you please pass the dinner rolls?” Simple. Easy. It’s surprisingly a very good way to determine ones personality. Whether they grumbled and went along. Glared and said to get it yourself. Smiled politely and passed it while avoiding eye contact. Or the most telling, grinned and said “Sure!” in a perky tone and asked follow up questions. Something so simple could tell a lot about the way a person treated others. As she waited for the other to hear her she tapped the table with her want creating a beat.

Aura was astonished by all the magic going on around her. She was born to two extremely intelligent people, though both were muggles. She felt a sense of belonging, and it was new. Here there were people just like her. Smart, excited to prove themselves. Aura did see a few students complaining to the headmaster about how brave or ambitious they were, begging to be switched to another house. Turning the other way, Ms. Lee saw towering amounts of all sorts of delicacies. She came from a middle-upper class family, but was fairly certain she had never seen quite so much food. It was a feast she had only seen when her mum dragged her to the wedding of two other professors at the college Nancy Lee worked at. Aura was super excited to begin her studies at such an odd place. She had gifted her mum an owl before she left so that they could write each other. She would head straight to the Owlrey after dinner, eager to tell her mum of all the things she had seen! Aura had always felt special, but this proved her point further. Her old friends had been upset that she would be “traveling abroad” for schooling and wouldn’t see them, but she promised to visit whenever possible. She couldn’t possibly be expected to leave this place though.

I tend to go on and on. Ooh, nice hair! You know, when I was younger, I had a hairstyle not unlike that. I am beautiful, don’t you think? Ooh, what a beautiful blue morpho! Don’t you love color! It fills our world with love!

Vincent was relieved to see and hear Kathy didn’t think he did all this on purpose as she warmly smiled when she told him it was alright. The smile brightened her face, making her look rather happy. As he fought to keep a straight face while the intense sourness penetrated every single fiber in his body, causing him to flinch rather severely, he noticed Kathy’s reaction to his efforts. Despite his eyes being blurred by the abundance of tears he had no trouble whatsoever seeing Kathy’s warm smile turn into a burst of laughter as she saw him fighting a lost battle. “Glad she didn’t blame me after all.” he thought as he burst into laughter as well. “That is, if I’m reading her reaction correctly. And a good thing she had put her plate on the table first, or else all my hard work on that scone would have been in vain.” He too burst into laughter once again. As the laughter subsided along with the very unpleasant feeling the bite of the cone had caused,  Vincent saw Kathy take a huge bite from the scone he had made her, and to his great pleasure she seemed to thoroughly enjoy it.

Not for very long though, because right after taking the bite he saw her get up with a grin on her face. Apparently she very much felt like exploring the castle some more in search of wherever their beds were hidden. “There’s no need to rush, you can finish your scone if you want to.” Vincent said as he himself felt some sort of urge to get up and go as well. A cheeky grin appeared on his face. “But I wouldn’t object if you just took it along for the ride.” He looked around the Great Hall to soak in its atmosphere and for the first time since his arrival at Hogwarts he actually allowed his consciousness to become aware of his surroundings. The sight of the large room with its contents made a huge impression on him. With an amazed stare he gazed at the hundreds and hundreds of portraits hanging on the Great Hall’s unbelievably high walls. Some large, some smaller, but all special and beautiful in their own way. Hugely credit to this was the light that seemed to bring out the best aspects of every single portrait, despite the fact it originated from hundreds of identical flying candles. Vincent wondered who all the people depicted in these pieces of art were or had been.

“Maybe I’ll find my mug shot hanging here someday as well. That would really be awesome…” Vincent’s thoughts ground to a halt as he suddenly realized the candles were not regular candles, but flying beacons of light that shone with amazing brightness. “Wait… Are those candles actually… flying??” His astonishment grew even larger as he admired the simple yet effective method of illuminating this seriously oversized room even though his mind couldn’t yet fully accept the fact the candles were actually floating. “How in the world…?” His thoughts fell silent as his logic drew from his abstract thinking in an effort to comprehend all this, but failed. “Hmm, looks like it might need quite a bit of time for me to get used to magic and all its applications.” He thought to himself. “Not to worry though, I suppose I have more than enough time to do so.” He got up from the bench and felt incredibly small and insignificant all of a sudden. The Great Hall surely was overwhelming.  "Kathy..." he said, still staring around in awe, a faint smile on his lips. “This is fabulous, don’t you think?” He looked at his new friend with a twinkle in his steel blue eyes. “Are you ready to join me in doing some serious exploring?”

Sage sucked in a breath as she walked to the Great Hall and opened the doors. She always liked it in the Great Hall, not only was there food almost all of the time, but it was just warm and cozy. She loved looking up at the ceiling with a smile. However today she needed to stay focused and keep her eyes ahead of her. She went over to an empty spot on the Ravenclaw table. It was clear she was nervous, she always was when it came to sitting around people she didn't really know and the only thing they had in common was the same house.

She had a strap on her shoulder which connected to the bag she carries around all day. Once she was seated, she opened it and took out her most favorite book 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'. After reading it a few times, she thought becoming a Zoologist would be fun in the wizarding world, since before she received her letter, she wanted to be an actress. But that was before she found out she had a rare talent for someone of her blood. Since she was Muggle-born, she didn't understand why Hogwarts invited her to come learn, why it has to be her. Nonetheless, she enjoyed Hogwarts, besides being away from her parents and little sister, she still enjoyed to be here, especially when it was quiet by the lake or in the library.

Plus some of the people she met were very kind. That's why she was almost always nervous around new people, but she relaxed a while after reading her book and grabbing some food to snack on. Sage wasn't really one to approach other people, so if anyone wanted to be her friend, she'd let them come to her.

Aura Lee decided that she needed a friend. She noticed another first year sit down quietly, book in hand. “Hi there.”She says, quietly. The girl doesn’t seem to notice, and, even if she had, she made no sign of it. “Hello!” Aura tried again. “I’m Aura, Aura Lee. My parents were both Muggles So a place like this... amazing isn’t it? What’s that your reading? Oh...I loved reading that! I actually read it on my way home from Diagon Alley.” Noting that the girl wasn’t talking, Aura sat adjacent to her and started to read a brand new copy of Hogwarts, A History. Another girl poked her on the shoulder asking her to pass the dinner rolls. “Uh...okay.” She replied, barely missing a beat. She passed the rolls to a grumbling girl, who had started a beat worth her wand. She returned to her book. “ What did you tell your old friends? I said I would be “traveling abroad” for schooling and wouldn’t see them, but i promised to visit whenever possible. I couldn’t possibly be expected to leave this place though.” She continued to the eerily quiet witch next to her. Still waiting for a response, she joined the impatient girl’s beat on the table.
