A week had passed since Rose was released from the hospital wing. The memory of her hurting and struggling to move was still fresh in his mind. The only consolation he had was the knowledge that she recovered well by now. He paid her a visit multiple times while she's in the hospital wing as long as his schedule permits him. Every time he would see her getting better, it was a relief. He just heard that she's finally out and gave it a couple more days before he sent her a note:
Hi Rose,
I hope you're fully recovered now. Meet me in my favorite spot tomorrow morning? Just before sunrise.
Zephy
She would know which place he's talking about, they met there a couple of times by now.
The next morning, he woke up early and ate his breakfast as fast as possible and grabbed his broom from their common room. When he came out of the castle, the sky was still dark, in fact, he still noticed some stars which were fading slowly as the first hints of light was seen in the horizon. While waiting for her, he left his broom on the base of the big willow tree which became his sanctuary in his daily life here, and climbed as per usual. He brought his sketchbook and began drawing the frozen lake, the sky with faint colors starting to show, and the trees around him. The air was cold, but it didn’t bother him. Even as he sketched, his thoughts would sometimes returned to Rose and what happened the last time they were here.
He set his pencil down after a few minutes of drawing and looked over the frozen surface of the lake. It was nice to watch the frozen branches and realized just how much he came to appreciate Hogwarts in the months he's been there. Initially, it was overwhelming but now, the place was starting to feel like home to him. All these...felt familiar now.
Being a wizard gave him excitement every day that he learned more of this wizarding world. There were challenges but he wouldn't change any of it. He already liked being here, learning and pushing himself to improve. He also thought on his growing circle of friends. He met so many interesting people in the past months, from classmates, to those he met while joining unofficial quidditch games, to friends who he met during school activities. Some were acquaintances, but several became reliable and enjoyable company, people he could trust and spend time with, and those friendships helped him a lot. Rose was among the most meaningful of them, her presence alone had been constant in his life.

It has been a week already since Rose was released from the Hospital Wing. If she had to stay longer than she stayed she probably couldn't have born it. Having to lay down on a bed for some days without being able to do anything was enough for her. Thankfully some of her friends especially Zephyr came visiting her quite a lot keeping her mind busy for some times and she was grateful enough for it. Speaking of she had just received a note from him asking her to meet at his favourite spot the next morning. She slightly smirked at the reading of the note as she arched an eyebrow.
"Before sunrise?" she whispered smirking. Rose perfectly knew why it was for. Flying. And at the time he suggested it was everything for her to enjoy it to the fullest which was not wrong but could she? Perhaps in her inner self Rose hoped it was for something else such as just admiring the sunrise but it was unlikely to happen. As she remembered Zephyr did promise her to fly with her.
The next morning Rose woke up without any difficulties as she hardly slept at all. She was so nervous at the idea of flying the next day. And here it was. She was feeling nauseous with any appetites for anything although she knew she should eat something. Instead she only took an apple from the Ravenclaw table before heading to the meeting point Zephyr implied. It was the Willow Tree by the Great Lake. Probably Rose among many knew it better.
Outside was still dark when Rose reached the exit of the castle. She looked up at the remaining stars hoping to ease her nervousness. Then she started to walk before reaching her destination. The fresh air helped her easing her mind but the smell of the morning dew increased her nauseous feeling. The willow tree along the lake were soon in sight and as expected she spot Zephyr's broom at the bottom of the tree. Rose slightly grimaced at the view before her light green eyes went up to the tree to see him. Zephyr. Sketchbook and pencil in hand drawing the landscape in front of him. He seemed so focused that Rose didn't dare to make her presence felt when he finally put it down only to look at the frozen lake. Rose walked closer to the tree before looking to the lake as well and around remembering her last time's clumsiness she hoped would not repeat today. Not knowing whether Zephyr had thought of it too Rose couldn't help but to say a slight tease also to make herself known.
"Don't worry I'll make sure this time we won't have to get to the hospital wing." before looking up at him mischievously smiling "However don't expect me to climb there for you to get down neither." she had no idea how this sentence sounded but it seemed to make any senses. She then started walking a bit closer to the lake waiting for Zephyr to come back on the ground.
“She looked towards the dark, starry sky wishing she could drown in its vastness, the way one drifts in the deep, endless ocean.”

Zephyr was still looking at the lake, thinking of nothing in particular, when a familiar voice cut through his consciousness. The words spoken froze him from where he was sitting for a few seconds before he remembered to move and looked down to the source of the voice. There was Rose. All good and well, and fully recovered, he hoped. Seeing her brought him relief. She looked fine and no sign of pain, just that familiar mischievous smile. “Good...” he called down. “Because I’m running out of excuses to visit you there.”
He closed his sketchbook and slid it into his bag just as Rose spoke again, telling him that she won't climb up there with him. He already expected that, and to be honest, he's not going to make her climb either way. He raised an eyebrow as he looked down again, “That felt threatening, are you saying I’m on my own if I get stuck?” He started going down carefully to avoid any more accidents, dropped the last bit to the ground, and then brushed his hands together.
Now that he was standing in front of her, he took his time assessing her. There was tenderness and concern written all over his face. She really seemed fine on the outside, but he was not sure if there was something else there that he was noticing. He was probably just overthinking since the last time they were together, what happened to her really did scare him.
His eyes shifted briefly to the broom resting against the tree; maybe he assumed too much about today. “I was actually going to ask how you’re feeling first... You know, before I throw you into the sky.” He grinned at her to let her know he was just joking. “I can postpone what I've promised you before, if you’re not ready. The sunrise works perfectly fine without near-death experiences.”
He picked up his broom but didn’t mount it. "Remember this broom?" He just held it at his side, it was the broom she gifted him last Christmas. Until now he was touched by what she did for him. “And if you thought I dragged you out here just to make you fly at sunrise, I’m slightly offended...I also wanted to show off this view...” He nodded toward the horizon, where soft colours were beginning to spread across the sky. He wanted her to see the sunrise, and what better way to do that than fly on a broom? They'll have a much better view from up there than down here. He looked at her again, a gentle expression on his face.
“I meant it when I said we will fly together, but not if you feel sick about it.” He didn't clarify what they're supposed to do today, so he would understand if she's not ready for this. It was supposed to be a surprise, even though she had given her consent to him before that it was okay to do this together. “Did you at least eat something during breakfast?”

While she was waiting for Zephyr Rose was looking at the frozen lake slightly tapping the ice of the frozen lake with her foot. She needed to ice skate at least once before the weather became warmer and melted the ice away. She heard Zephyr speaking again as she turned towards him raising an eyebrow the same way he just did.
"I feel offended that you still think I am capable of threatening you." she said pouting almost on a complaining tone as she crossed her arms over her chest looking at him now in disbelief. Obviously it was just an act as she was taking pleasure in doing so. As she knew Zephyr was not thinking it was he?
Not soon after he was standing in front of her and Rose just looked at him with the same offended face before she realised Zephyr was not talking but looking carefully at her. Overall. Her arms uncrossed by themselves to fall on her sides as her face relaxed now showing wonder and curiosity. Rose slightly titled her head on the side. Was Zephyr still worried about her last time's fall?
When Rose understood his face expression a gentle smile appeared on her lips as she slightly chuckled before reassuring Zephyr.
"I'm fine really!" she appreciated Zephyr's concern but Rose was really feeling all well and as a proof she spun around before doing a small jump "See!" she said smiling.
But it was true she didn't want to reiterate this incident as she got scared a lot and the pain had been unbearable. Let alone said she stayed a week in the hospital wing before being able to walk properly again without feeling any pain. However now she was feeling better than ever.
Her eyes followed Zephyrs which landed on his broom resting against the tree.
"Saying it like this I would swear you do want to send me back to the hospital wing." she teased him in answer to his words that made her chuckling.
For a moment Rose contemplated Zephyr's words while he went to pick up his broom. It was the one she offered him for Christmas. He seemed really touched by it. In his thank you letter she could sense it but now that she was in front of him Rose was clearly seeing it in his eyes and his expression on his face. She was touched he felt this way toward her gift.
To be honest she agreed to fly with him last time and coming back on her words would not be really fair. Neither did she want to come back on her words. If it were not today she would be even less willing to fly another time. And what could be better to indeed admire the sunrise than being in the sky. Saying she was serene would be lying as she was scared but it was her chance to overcome her fear. She trusted Zephyr several times already Rose could also trusted him this time.
Plus the first colors of the sunrise were starting to appear as Rose's head turned to look at it in awe.
"I'll be fine! You're with me so I shouldn't fear anything should I?" she said gently with a tint of mischief in her eyes and voice.
Nevertheless Zephyr's next question made Rose's cheeks turning red of embarrassment as she avoided his gaze. The truth was she did not eat but only took an apple out. Yet how could she tell him? He would probably not appreciate it as an answer.
“She looked towards the dark, starry sky wishing she could drown in its vastness, the way one drifts in the deep, endless ocean.”

"Oh, I have no doubt you're capable...” Zephyr said it in a serious tone, even though his lips twitched into an almost smile. “You almost killed me with stress last time.” He knew she was only acting, that pout was too dramatic to be real. The only silver lining here was seeing her joke like the usual, it just meant she's feeling better. She would not be teasing him if she were not. Seeing the look on her face softened, Zephyr straightened his back subconsciously. His worry must have been written all over his face, which is why she gave her assurance that she was really okay. To the point, she spun around and jumped.
His heart skipped before she landed on the ground, already assuming the worst thing that could happen to her. But none of that happened. Seeing her smile, he breathed out in relief. He should let it go and just believe that everything's okay now. “Okay, fine. You’ve proven your point.” The memory of her looking pale and in pain was not easy to forget.
She teased him about sending her back to the hospital wing, and although he knew it was a joke, his response was a frown. “That's not funny.” There was anger in his voice. “I don’t want to see any of my friends in the hospital wing again.” He looked down at his broom, “Don't worry, I'll be careful, I just want us to have fun. That’s all.” He was not always good at saying what he feels, but he still tried to express it the best way he could. “If at any point you feel dizzy or weird, tell me and we'll stop.” His intention was to sound firm, but it came out more worried than strict.
He could still remember the day she gave the broom to him, no one had given him something that expensive, it was thoughtful. He takes care of it properly. Hearing her say she wouldn't fear anything because she was with him was somehow embarrassing, as his ears felt warm. He was not used to having someone rely on him this much. “That depends. I'm not exactly a professional yet.” He winked to show that he was just making fun of her. But...he also liked that she trusts him, that part, he would not joke about. Her reaction to the breakfast question told him everything he needed to know. “You didn’t." It was no longer a question.
“Rose...” He was not angry, just a bit worried. "Fine...if breakfast is still available once we're done, we can go back to the great hall to grab a bite." Her words that she wouldn't fear anything was enough reassurance to him. He nodded at her and rode his broom before he extended his arm to her, "Let's go then, so we'll see the sunrise from up there." He likes sunrise for a few simple and personal reasons. It's like a fresh start. An assurance that whatever happened yesterday doesn't fully matter anymore. That there's another chance to try again and that idea was comforting. Besides that, the sky looks endless when the light begins to spread. Being up there while the sun rises was freeing, it gives him that feeling that he was capable of anything.

Rose couldn't help but let a small laugh out. Rather than a fun laugh it sounded more as an embarrassed laugh at the reminder of her accident from last time. It was true she could clearly remember Zephyr's face expressions and how worried he was.
After her small wellness demonstration to him: a spin followed by a little jump she slightly smiled at Zephyr who seemed to be worried something similar might happen again to her. She shook her head as a negation sign agreeing with him. She too neither didn't want to go back to the hospital wing nor any of her friends.
"Don't worry. I understand. I don't want to go to the hospital wing neither nor I would want to see my friends there." she smiled at him softly. Aside her brother not many people had shown her care this much like this so she was really appreciating it.
"Thank you! Then I will try -I said try so it doesn't mean I will succeed- no to tease much around this topic." she added followed by a light chuckle.
Then Rose's light green eyes followed Zephyr's gaze to his broom on his side. She smiled at the sight and looked up again at Zephyr before quickly sightseeing the horizon where the sun was going to rise. Zephyr was not forcing her into anything just offering her a time to share with him and perhaps helping her overcoming her fear. Rose was not sure of the last part but she could still have fun and appreciate it. And she definitely knew that Zephyr would make sure she would be fine. As stated to tell him if there is anything wrong or weird she could feel while being in the air. She smiled and nodded at him in agreement before he stated he was not a professional which she knew but she was not worrying about it.
"It is fine!! I might regret it not doing it!" she encouragingly said more to herself than to Zephyr though.
Rose although she was feeling scared had still a kind of adrenaline running all over her body. The curiosity of the feeling about being on a broom and how the air would feel up there was really taking on her. Same as the sunrise view. Even if she will feel scared she would have a lot of different things to focus one rather than the height she would be at to calm herself.
At her answer to Zephyr's question if she had eaten breakfast Zephyr instantly understood she did not. She took the apple out of her pocket she had taken with her earlier and showed it to him.
"I still have an apple in case of a risk of fainting..." Rose said as her voice got lower along her sentence not feeling really proud of herself.
"But I do think there would still be the breakfast by the time we will get back!" she added smiling.
Then Zephyr got on his broom before extending his arm for Rose to get on as well. For a moment she contemplated what she was about to do. She looked both at the broom and Zephyr before shifting her eyes to the sky. She slightly smiled then turned towards Zephyr again and grabbed his arm before placing herself behind him not sure where to put her arms.
Rose was feeling quite impatient to see the sunrise from up as it would be a beautiful and an unforgettable memory.
"Let's go!" she said to Zephyr impatiently before she could change her mind.

Zephyr knew this was awkward to talk about, almost embarrassing too. He understood why Rose' laugh sounded different, or at least his guess might be close to what she's thinking. The memory of what happened last time was still there for both of them. There was no need to bring up the past and just move on. By default, he was made to worry but he tried to push it down. As long as she's okay and smiling, then that should be enough. “Let’s keep it that way.” He was being firm about it, meaning his words. "Don't worry about it, you don't have to change or adjust to anything Rose. Your teasing or joking tells me you're your old self." He's not always sure he's saying the right things, but she doesn’t seem upset by it.
She agreed to ride the broom with him and added that if she didn't, she might regret not doing it. Chuckling, he nodded in agreement, "That's the spirit, couldn't have said it better." He just didn't want her to miss anything just because of her own fear when he's there to ensure her safety. Giving her one curious look, he could see she was not backing out, and that's good enough for him, so he rode his broom. "You have my word that we will not fly too high or too fast unless you're okay with it. We're just there to enjoy the view of the school and the sunrise."
He wanted her to know she had control over this, too, and not just him deciding everything. He glanced at the horizon again, and the colours were getting more solid now and brighter. “You’ll be fine.” He shifted to give her more room on the broom, positioning it so it would be easier for her to get on behind him. He kept one hand on the handle while waiting for her. Seeing the apple in her hand he just gave it a raised eyebrow, unimpressed. "We’re definitely going back after this. No arguments.” When she held his hand, he gripped it gently until she was safely sitting on the broom behind him.
There was hesitation in her movements, as if she were obviously careful and unsure at first. “Hold on properly...Come on Rose, don't be shy, you can hold onto my waist or shoulders.” glancing back to check on her. Facing forward again, he tightened his hold on the broom. “Ready?" and pushed off the ground. The broom lifted smoothly and ease them into the air. The ground beneath them grew smaller, even the frozen lake slowly shrank as they rose higher. The cold air brushed against his face but it also gave him a refreshing feeling. This peacefulness only existed this early in the morning. He kept his movements calm as he guided them upward in a controlled climb. “Still okay?” As they rose higher, the view was finally revealed to them. The frozen surface of the lake caught the early light like a mirror. The trees stood still and pale with frost, while the castle rose silent and began to glow as the first rays of sunlight touched them. He slowed the ascent once they reached a comfortable height and just let the broom hover.
As discussed, he didn’t take them too high. The colors spread across the sky, its light changing everything. He took a deep breath, “This is why I like it...You see that? It only looks like this for a few minutes.” The edge of the sun slowly appeared, casting a brighter glow across the sky. The reflection on the lake is turning warm, almost golden. The light spread wider, touching everything below, even them. He didn’t say anything and just enjoy the view and the warmth spreading in his skin.

Rose shyly sat behind Zephyr who didn't miss her awkward and embarrassed behaviour. While she didn't know where to place her arms Zephyr just notified her she could hold on his shoulders or waist. Unconsciously she felt her cheeks slightly warming and probably blushing a bit at the same time as she tried to keep a steady attitude as if nothing was happening. Moreover Zephyr whose back was facing her would probably not notice. Thankfully.
Then as suggested by Zephyr Rose shyly put her arms around Zephyr's waist paying attention not to hold too tightly on him. She didn't want to make him out of breath or making him feeling uncomfortable to ride and lead the broom.
Realising she was now sitting on the broom ready for it to take off she felt a slight panic and wondered what she was even doing. Her body tensed a bit when Zephyr asked her if she were ready and still okay in doing this. Rose closed her eyes as she breathed in to calm herself before opening her eyes again and looking at the horizon where the first rays of the sun were starting to be seen.
"I'm okay! I'm ready!" Rose stated as confidently as she could. She hoped her voice didn't sound unsure nor was shaky because she was indeed ready. Scared obviously but ready as adrenaline and excitement were running through her body.
Finally the broom flew off the ground and as promised Zephyr didn't get too high. As they were going high Rose closed her eyes as her head hid in Zephyr's back avoiding to look under her and around quite scared but then Zephyr's voice came to her ears so she slowly opened her eyes to look around. It would be a shame to miss the view and not even look at it when it was the main purpose. Feeling a hint of fear at the idea of the high and to fall down she hold a bit tighter on Zephyr.
Her eyes widened at the view that was beautiful. The frozen lake seemed big and small at the same time while glimmering from the first sun's rays. The roof of the castle was displaying a beautiful colour. The sun was now showing all its colours and rays over the landscape. It was breathtaking. Rose smiled at the view and her eyes were sparkling in awe. Seeing how the sun rays were making the view looking different was amazing her.
"That's beautiful." she whispered to Zephyr almost worried to disrupt the moment and the admiration she had over the golden tints spreading everywhere.
Rose even forgot she actually was in the air on a broom as her arms slightly loosened up around Zephyr.
"It's as if we were in another world! That's so peaceful!" she added before her eyes looked at Zephyr.
"Thank you Zephyr" her voice was full of gratitude as her eyes got teary from the magnificence of the view.

Rose's arms wrapped around his waist, and he could tell that she was hesitating at first, maybe due to fear of holding him too tightly or taking up too much space. Though he could feel that from her actions, he didn't say anything. As long as she was holding on, that was what mattered to him. After asking her if she was ready, there was a moment of silence and he gave it a good minute before he looked behind him just to check if she's okay or if she's scared. She had her eyes closed and was enjoying the air. Smiling, he turned to the front again and let her have her moment without interruption.
He kept the movement slow to ensure there were no sudden shifts. He didn’t want to scare her. It was already obvious to him how her body tensed up behind him as they rose higher and higher. Her grip tightening around his waist. “Still okay?” Came his question which she didn't answer right away. He figured she was just focusing on getting used to it.
Hearing her comment about the view, he nodded, "It is.” He didn’t add more to that. He didn't feel the need to, the moment was already perfect. When she spoke again, he chuckled, "I know what you mean, that’s why I like it.” He relaxed more knowing she's enjoying their ride. The air was cold and fresh, and the sunrise was slowly spreading across everything below. He scratched the side of his face, a bit awkward at the sincerity in her voice when she thanked him. “Don’t mention it, you don’t need to thank me. I just wanted to show this to you.” Glancing behind him briefly, he smirked, "So...are you still afraid of heights?" Now he was teasing her.
Eyes sweeping around them, he fell silent for a few seconds as the sun goes higher in the horizon. Now it's brighter and clearer. The colors enhanced making the place more beautiful in his eyes. “We’ll stay a bit longer, then we’ll head back before it gets too cold. Just let me know once you're ready to go back? Or...better yet, do you want to explore the lake the school grounds?” He glanced at the lake, the reflection of the skies was visible on the surface. The light was already changing, shifting from soft gold to brighter daylight.

The broom was still in the air rather high above the ground Rose was avoiding to look at. Although she released a bit her hold on Zephyr's waist she was still holding on it firmly to prevent her from any falls. To be honest she still could not imagine where she was and especially what she was looking at.
Back then in Portree, her mom's hometown and where her grandparents were still living, she was used to go admiring the sunrise or the sunset but from the ground only. Some people were sometimes going in hot-air balloon to have a better view of it but Rose's family had never done it and Rose herself would have never wanted to do it.
Nevertheless now being on a broom floating in the air with the sunrise view in front of her eyes she could not be more amazed than she was. The scenery was magnificent that it did make her forget where she was and even her fear of heights. How could Zephyr not come here everyday flying just to watch the sun rising? Of course it required to wake up early but it was worthy that if she had a broom and were able to fly by herself she would do it almost everyday. It would be such a perfect way to start the day.
After she thanked Zephyr he seemed a bit awkward stating she didn't need to. But for Rose it was more than thanking him for having showing her the sunrise. It was also a thank to have made her able to get on a broom and overcame her fear. Of course she didn't say anything to make him more awkward or uncomfortable. Whether her fear was really overcome she was not sure about it yet. Just then Zephyr asked her what she was just thinking as if he read her mind. Teasing could be sensed in his voice. Usually she was the one teasing him although he started doing it as well quite often lately which was not to her displeasure.
Rose raised her eyebrows in surprise "Me scared...? I have no idea what you're talking about." she said on an innocent tone and putting on her innocent face.
But then quickly soon enough her look changed to let appearing her usual mischievous smile. "You should be careful not to become the one afraid of heights." she teasingly said. There was no threat in her voice it was more a statement to tease him back definitely knowing it would probably never happen.
After some silence in between and looking at the sun now totally rose everything was bathed in its light making a bright atmosphere. The color had now changed to more yellow hues making the landscape and the castle clearer. Yet it was as beautiful.
Now that the sunrise was over they could have just gone back to the ground and headed to the castle yet Zephyr asked Rose if she wanted to explore the lake, the school grounds. It was indeed really tempting and she was not sure she would be able to do it again anytime. Therefore today was the perfect opportunity.
Rose followed Zephyr's gaze to the lake whose surface mirrored the sky.
"I think we still have some times before going back." Rose answered agreeing with Zephyr's proposal.
“She looked towards the dark, starry sky wishing she could drown in its vastness, the way one drifts in the deep, endless ocean.”
