The sun laid its rays onto the cobblestone floor of the courtyard. It was cold yet the warmth the light gave was pleasant. No scorching, just... a comfortable blanket of warmth. With a nervous stride, her long red hair swayed with every step she took. Today, she brought her lunchbox with snacks that her father had sent over. Sushi. It had been forever since she had a taste of sashimi, tempura shrimp and tasty maki rolls. Her mouth watered just thinking about it. Her thin, pale fingers gently tapped on the plastic side of the box as she made her way to a comfortable spot next to the fountain.
Gently, she placed the treasure chest filled with tasty pleasures next to the claws of the eagle statue. The dhampir couldn't help but feel a little bit intimidated by the way it held a vicious stone snake in its beak. Who designed these?
Enough of that.
Carefully, Nico removed the lid of her marine blue lunchbox, revealing the wonderous food within. If anyone had seen her eyes, they would've never seen them any brighter until then. 'Mom and dad really tried their best... It looks even better than when I got them for Muggle school. I suppose they've been practicing..' She smiled blissfully. A warm, gentle sun, stroking her skin - homemade food that she got to enjoy once a month. A real peakmoment during her stay at Hogwarts.
Out of the box she gently held onto one particaler food item: an ordinairy looking chocoball. "I'll save this one for last."

Students began to leave the courtyard, at least the few who were still hanging out there. For anyone who was wise to the ways of hogwarts, they knew who was coming. You could feel him in the drop of temperature, feel him in the shivers that traveled up and down your spine. Even before you saw him, you knew where he was. The frail corpse of a boy who represented so many tales of gossip and gore that floated around the social halls of hogwarts. The insane half-demon who should have been expelled long ago, but still haunted the imagination of those prudent enough to leave before they caught sight of him.
Fading, fraying robes and soft steps eventually made their physical appearance in the courtyard, glancing around to see if anyone was still there. A Gryffindor, reluctant to leave and sacrifice his pride was being pulled away by his hysterical hufflepuff friend. Other than that, the only sign of life was the weird girl, the one who was like him but weaker. The one who was a little bit like him, but not in any way that mattered. She was confusing, and he didn't like that. But she was also relatively safe. Not a threat, at present, and someone he could probably ignore.
Setting his sights on the other side of the courtyard, the huge umbrella-wielding ravenclaw started to walk past his fellow half vampire

Still practicing her chopstick skills, she desperately tried to get a piece of tempura shrimp to her lips. It was harder than it looked. After what seemed forever, the dhampir decided to just pick it up with her pale fingers. Quietly, she bit off a piece, looking around her to admire the view the courtyard gave. However, weren't there more students before? The corner of the grass that were once filled with tiny groups of students were now... empty.
'Huh... Did something happen?' Her gaze glided from one side to another. The reason of the sudden absence of peers, set foot on the cobblestoned floor. Nico wasn't sure if his presence had gotten worse. It still brought a shiver down her spine. She couldn't really get used to it. It was odd. For a while the redhead had tried to connect with the boy. He was strange. Very hard to read and rough to clearly talk to. Would she dare to give it another shot? Her ice blue eyes carefully kept him in her sights. How should she do this... As he stepped by the Prefect looked at her lunchbox filled with fishy goods. Usually she wouldn't share but this was for a greater cause.
Hesitantly and nervous, she got up and set a few steps beside the courtyard statue. 'Kaegan? Did you have lunch yet?'

Had he had what? Who had the gall to actually speak to him, who was still in his castle? Bitter eyes and a fading face, far too young for the hardened hate, forged from a million painful falls, and a million brutal lessons. He had no desire to speak to anyone, much less someone who randomly wanted to offer him lunch. Lunch? Was he really seen as being that stupid, that incompetent that he wouldn't notice the poison that was sure to find itself tucked between the other foodstuffs? The aura of fear increased drastically, far beyond what a normal dhampir should be able to put out. It pulsed and reverberated like a living thing, crashing waves of what felt like the absence of warmth, light, safety.
But it only lasted for a second, just long enough for the monster of Hogwarts' halls to turn around and see who had actually talked to him. His hatred faded considerably, he knew this student. The flaming doll, the crimson haired automaton. Well, no, he knew she was real. But it's what he thought of. She didn't look human, that much at least was obvious. And the perfect skin and hair? It was something he would expect to see on a very expensive doll. But it was not her doll-like qualities that so rapidly calmed the Ravenclaw. No, it was the knowledge that she wasn't a serious threat. She was unsure, she wavered. And he had long ago decided she didn't mean harm.
This was not the unknown, this was not something he did not know. And in the absence of his hate, hunger reared it's ferocious head.
"...um"
It almost seemed wrong to take her up on the offer, after his initial reaction. He felt off balance, having been prepared to fight, and having ended up with an offer for food, something he desperately wanted right then. But that desperation was matched by his need to ensure she didn't know he was that hungry. She couldn't see weakness, threat or no.
"That would... be nice, please? Or, thank you?"
