Skylar is so. Damn. Tired. Her classmates carefully avoided her as she marches into the library like she was about to throw hands. With how thin her sanity is holding on, she just might. She could not even muster a normal smile the whole day without her right eye twitching.

Running on pure spite and adrenaline, Skylar's eyes sweep the perimeter of the library. She has spent the past week swarmed with homework and studies. Perfect grades this, top student that. But maintaining her grades and good standing were not the only things snapping at her heels. Skylar mutters curses under her breath as she hunts down a certain Slytherin who is way too fond of dramatic exits. Every single time Skylar attempts to make a conversation, it always ends with Tes Cadell sauntering off to Merlin knows where. Probably crawling back to some Hell Hole she came from, plotting in dark shadows like the gremlin she is.

Skylar sighs as her eyes search through the crowd. She tried being friendly to Tes in the beginning, but that did not work. Neither did being logical, and definitely not her offering of an olive branch. What the hell does that girl even want? Did she just see Skylar one day and decide that she wanted to be archenemies?

At last, Skylar catches sight of the same blank, arrogant face at an empty table. Skylar does not even bother mentally preparing herself anymore. A sense of tiredness washes over Skylar. She does not even wish to try anymore. Clearly this girl is too immature to properly handle disagreements and issues. It is evident from how she always leaves when something happens. Coward.

When she reaches Tes, Skylar places a stack of papers in front of her. She did not slam it, nor did she position it in a way that would disturb the Slytherin. She merely sets it down steadily. She will not waste her anger and breath on someone so spineless. No. Not anymore.

"This is my part of the project. I do not know whether you remembered it or not, but we still have to work together. I done my part, so now it is yours. I will not offer you pleasantries, since you clearly have no care for them. Nor will I antagonize you further, because it is a waste of my time and yours." Skylar states in a deadpan tone. She genuinely cannot give a crap right now. She is tired, she is hungry, and she is irritated.

"You do not want to see me, and I no longer want to try with you. My attempts at friendly sarcasm and truce have fallen short. And by short I mean it never flew in the first place. I will no longer disturb you, as you are clearly busy." Skylar acknowledges as she notices the paperwork by Tes.

"See you next class, Ms. Cadell. Or not, depending on what you choose. I do have one thing to tell you though. Listen or not, it is up to you." Skylar shrugs. "When you come into disagreements with someone, I do hope you can properly talk it out like a mature person. So far, all you have been doing is leaving when you think the conversation is over. I do not know why you avoid confronting problems, Tes, but it is a fatal flaw of yours. And sometimes, fatal flaws can be our downfalls."

"I do not mind talking about this feud we have between us, Tes. You can roll your eyes and ignore me, but I will still be open to talk about it. But if you truly do not care, then take this as your victory. You won, Tes Cadell. What you have won, I do not know. But congratulations." Skylar says with a smile, but her eyes echo the tiredness and exhaustion she is feeling. Gently, she takes out a paper snake she made. She made it in her dorms, making sure to use black paper. She hopes it looks enough like Tes's pet snake, Medusa. May the paper copy be better company than Skylar ever was. She regrets the way she assumed Tes was a arrogant snob and antagonized her. Tes could have been going through something, but what does she know? She was too quick to judge, too quick to speak. And now, she will never know.

"A present, if you will. Goodbye, Tes Cadell, and have a nice day." Skylar places the snake on top of the stack of paper. She then begins to walk towards one of the many shelves. If Tes wishes to speak to her, then she will know where she is.

I was in the library, peacefully working on a project that was due next week. I hated my partner, but we agreed to do each part alone. Just when I thought this day couldn’t be interrupted, I watched her march in.
Skylar. Predictable as ever. I could almost feel the tension radiating off her, pitiful.
I sighed.

I didn’t move as she approached. I just watched her set a stack of papers down in front of me. She didn’t slam them, didn’t shove them into me. That much was unusual.

"This is my part of the project…"

I blinked. She was calm. No theatrics. No venom. Maybe she got poisoned? Or maybe this was exhaustion talking. Either way, I let her continue.

"You do not want to see me, and I no longer want to try with you. My attempts at friendly sarcasm and truce have fallen short. And by short I mean it never flew in the first place. I will no longer disturb you, as you are clearly busy."

I raised a brow. Huh. So this was her version of surrender, or an apology she refuses to admit.

"See you next class, Ms. Cadell. Or not, depending on what you choose. I do have one thing to tell you though. Listen or not, it is up to you. When you come into disagreements with someone, I do hope you can properly talk it out like a mature person. So far, all you have been doing is leaving when you think the conversation is over. I do not know why you avoid confronting problems, Tes, but it is a fatal flaw of yours. And sometimes, fatal flaws can be our downfalls."

That wasn't my fatal flaw? I always confront problems? She analysed me wrong, but I appreciate the effort.

"I do not mind talking about this feud we have between us, Tes. You can roll your eyes and ignore me, but I will still be open to talk about it. But if you truly do not care, then take this as your victory. You won, Tes Cadell. What you have won, I do not know. But congratulations."

I suppressed a smirk. How dramatic. How utterly exhausting. She lays it all out there, makes herself vulnerable. Of course I won. I won something far bigger than she could ever imagine.

Then I see it, a small paper snake, black, delicate, resting on top of her stack.

"A present, if you will. Goodbye, Tes Cadell, and have a nice day."

I pause. A copy of Medusa, she says. A replacement for her presence, or maybe an apology she’ll never admit. Interesting. I can see the care in the folds, the faint effort to mirror something personal about me. That’s… almost kind. Why?

I glance back at her, still distant, still exhausted. She thinks she’s leaving the conversation open. I think she’s naive. But I keep the snake, not as a gift, not as a sign of forgiveness, just as a reminder of her effort, her mistake, and the fact that no matter what she tries, I decide how this ends.
I stood up as I finished my sentence, putting my quill down, carefully leaving the folded snake out of this and stood up with a stack of paper in my hands.
"That's my part" I say as I handed the stack to her, maybe it was a bit too aggressive because she tripped over books behind her...

Skylar sighs as her hands skim over books upon books. She is tired, but she also feels... relieved, in a way. Gone was Tes Cadell, gone was the constant hatred going between them. All the jabs and disdain wore her down, and she is done with it. If Tes wanted to talk to her, great. If Tes wanted to sit there and brood like some wronged villain, fine by her. However, it seems Tes had a different idea.

Skylar senses Tes move before she hears the footsteps. She carefully puts down the book she was holding on a nearby shelf. No need to inflict harm on the innocent books. She then turns and was greeted by a very pissed looking Tes Cadell.

Confusion immediately crosses Skylar's face. Out of all the outcomes, she did not expect Tes to be this... mad. She personally thought she handled the situation pretty well. She did not yell, she did not fight, she did not even jab at Tes with any back-handed insult. Yet, the Slytherin looked as if she personally offended her. Skylar sighs again. She was just about to ask what the girl wants when Tes cuts in.

"That's my part." She states as she 'hands over' a stack of papers to Skylar. However, 'hands over' was the understatement of the century as Tes basically slams the whole stack of papers into her chest. Skylar's eyes widen at the force of the push, stumbling backwards and tripping over the books behind her.

Skylar grunts in pain as her back slams into a shelf, the hard wood definitely bruising her back. She hears clatter around her as books from the shelf rains down. Papers, most likely Tes's "part of the project," fly everywhere. The last thing Skylar sees is Tes's face before a loud THUNK hits her head. Skylar was in such pain that she did not know whether she screamed or not. Everything was spinning and her whole body hurts. She sees flashes of white and black as more clatter happens around her. She could not move, she could not breathe. She turns her head and gasps at the pain that shoots up her head. A heavy leather back book lies next to her head.

Dictionary of Magical Terms and Vocabulary.

Bloody hell, did a whole dictionary just fall on her head?

Finally, dead silence. Or at least she thought it was silent. Skylar does not know what she was hearing or seeing anymore. Her ears were ringing and the world was spinning. She faintly hears someone calling her name, but it feels like it was from a world far, far way. Her eyes droop as her vision becomes fuzzy. Sleeping sounds like a great idea right now...

The sound of the impact echoed far louder than I thought it would

For a moment, I didn’t move. Papers scattered. Books fell. Silence followed. It was a complete mess.

And Skylar, on the ground. She layed still

My grip tightened around the remaining parchment, the edges crumpling slightly beneath my fingers. That wasn’t supposed to happen. Why did she fall miserably like that? , "Pathetic..." I muttered under my breath, clearly she was actign to get some sympathy out of others.
Now she was really causing a scene, "Get up" I ordered to her, still standing as she was lying beneath me. Nothing.
Then I realised that if she truly wanted to act out her death... she would've been loud. But she was dead silent, my jaw tightened.

I crouched slightly, just enough to check. Breathing, slow, but there. No obvious blood. No immediate damage I could see, "... Skylar?" I called

My gaze flicked to the book beside her head.
Dictionary of Magical Terms. Damnit.
I sat next to her, ,You fall over paper and let a book defeat you."
It sounded like an insult. But it wasn't. Just a coping mechanism.

My fingers twitched slightly at my side before I stilled them. Think. Quickly.
Leave her? No. That would be stupid. Too many witnesses, too many questions.
Call someone? Slower.
My eyes returned to her face.
That same exhausted look from earlier.
The one I ignored.
A sharp breath left me before I could stop it. Everything suddenly clicked, If she had a concussion, I couldn't let her go sleep. Not that I cared if she died, but it would be problematic for my future.
Without thinking, I slapped her cheek, not very aggressively, just enough to keep her awake. If she wasn't responding to my words, she better respond to my actions.
