A late breakfast never hurt anyone!

Rosie's common room was basically next door neighbors with the kitchen anyway, but she wanted a full meal. She had spent her morning studying, and in class. And her great, big brain needed a break! She made her way to the Great Hall, moving past a taller group of people. She was still pretty short for her age, and she had been waiting for her growth spurt! Though, little did she know, that growth spurt was never coming. Poor girl. But that wasn't important. What was important was this very delicious brunch she was about to indulge herself into!

She sat down at her table and took a few bites, glancing up at her more or less empty table. She had decided to eat a little later than most of her house mates, so she felt a bit lonely. As introverted as Rosie could be, she thrived off of social interaction early in the day. So this just meant she was gonna be a hyperactive, talkative, yapping chihuahua later in the day. But that was alright, the few close friends Rosie had didn't mind it too much. At least, the knew how to shut her up. She hoped.

She glanced around until she saw a certain girl sitting at the Ravenclaw table. Rosie blinked a few times, she looked familiar. She took a few seconds to consider who she was before remembering. That was Mae! They weren't really close friends, but they probably knew of each other. She stood up and went over to her table. She thought she could use someone to talk to, and maybe it'd be a nice opportunity to make a new friend! Or at least reconnect with an old one.

"Hey, do you mind if I sit here with you?" Rosie asked, holding her plate and smiling. "It's alright if not, you just seemed a little bored."

Mae hadn't eaten anything all day as of yet and with being in class all day, it was making her worn out and tired. As she felt the rumble of her stomach, she decided now was the time to get some food before the next class, after all it was lunch time-ish. She headed down to the Great Hall, where she was sure they would be serving some sort of food right about now.

She entered the huge area where she saw all kinds of 1st, 2nd and 3rd years sitting at their respective houses tables. Mae in her blue and black robes quietly walked down the aisle until she found an available seat at the Ravenclaw table. As she sat down, she had fond memories of when she was a first year. All the people she had met at this table, Mae wondered where they were now as she hadn't seen anyone practically since returning.

Mae looked down at the food that had appeared and started to eat. She felt weird because she didn't know anyone around her enough to talk, they all seemed like first years. -Eh, maybe they don't want to talk to a 3rd year like me-. Mae thought, looking lonely.

It was then as Mae was eating and looking around she saw a girl at the Hufflepuff table staring at her. It was almost as if the girl knew her and the more Mae looked at the girl, the more she pondered who it was. It looked a lot like Rosie Parker, although she wasn't sure fully if it was her. Rosie got up and walked over with her plate of food. "Hey, do you mind if I sit here with you?" she said smiling "It's alright if not, you just seemed a little bored." she added. "Oh yeah, it's no problem" Mae said nicely "Yeah, unfortunately I was a little bored...and a little tired."

Mae said yes! She smiled with a nod, going to sit down next to her. She felt smarter sitting at the Ravenclaw table. It was a house full of bright minds and strategic ways of doing literally anything. At least, she was pretty sure that's how the house worked. She didn't know many people from the house, other than Phaedra. And even then, she didn't talk to her enough to really know the insight on how their house did their thing. She did know, however, that their house entrance required some kind of riddle. Which she knew she couldn't handle. Sometimes Rosie was just too tired to do anything involving her brain.

But Mae let her sit down, and she was grateful. Rosie took another bite of her food and swallowed, before talking again. "How've you been? I don't think I've actually had a full conversation before. There's a few third years like that for me, I tried to talk to everyone in my year, but I definitely missed people." She smiled at her, waiting for her response to her first question. She just liked checking up on everyone's wellbeing. There was something Rosie discovered as she kept growing, and it was that emotions sucked! And sometimes they made you sad, that also sucked. So she liked to make sure the people around her won't too down in the dumps.

Sometimes people were sad from breaking something. Other people were sad because they were born from two muggles and because of that, you get viewed as talent lacking scum who don't deserve to be happy. By few, of course. Not all. It was subjective

Rosie sat down at the table with Mae.  "How've you been? I don't think I've actually had a full conversation before. There's a few third years like that for me, I tried to talk to everyone in my year, but I definitely missed people." she said as she took a bite of food. It was quite nice that someone for once was asking Mae how she was doing instead of vice versa. "Actually really well, I haven't been back here in the longest time, it feels strange almost." she said looking around at all the first year's that were at the table. When Mae really thought about it, it was strange she hadn't been back in a while and hadn't seen most of her friends from third year either.

Mae supposed that they were all out and about at the castle or maybe they had taken a small break just like her. Either way, she missed the one's who had become friends and felt bad she missed opportunities with the others that she had missed. Kind of like with Rosie, when Mae thought about it they hadn't really had a conversation and she felt bad about it.

"Oh no, that's alright," Mae said on the subject of Rosie and her not talking. "I'm haven't really seen most of the people I have talked to from our year anyways and trust me when I say I'd like to meet some of the people I might've missed as well, I think it's alright anyways seeing as we have a huge abundance of people in our year." she added. It was true, with so many people in 3rd year and now with people in 2nd and 1st and even higher up, Hogwarts was starting to become packed. Mae wondered if she would ever think the same like this when she gets to her seventh year.

Rosie glanced up from her food when she mentioned she hadn't been here for a long time. Like, she felt as if she hadn't been back for a while? Or had she been eating outside of the Great Hall? The latter was certainly a sadder option, was Mae eating alone? No, Rosie couldn't assume. Maybe she just meant that in a different way. But Rosie didn't want to ignore a subtle cry for help. Though she was definitely over thinking this. Before she let her mind delve into a fictional story of where Mae had been somehow chased out of the Great Hall, she asked- "What do you mean? Like, not being back here." She smiled a bit at her, trying to establish a sense of comfort so she wouldn't afraid to be a little vulnerable. If there was something Hufflepuffs were good at, it was... Being nice!

She didn't realize how big their third year was until she thought about it. Mae was right, there was a lot of them. Rosie might've just thought it was a small group because she knows who they all are, at least their faces. The names still have to connect. But Rosie seemed to find the most trouble in her own year. If there were any people who could get under her skin, it was nasty pureblood 3rd years. Anyone younger, she could handle. No matter what they said to her, it would never change the fact that Rosie was a wizard, and she belonged here. Wizard parents or not. Though the fact it kept coming up in her narration, probably meant she thought about it more than she let on.

"Oh yeah, definitely. I try to keep track of everyone, but it's difficult. Especially since I'm not a prefect anymore." She laughed nervously, shrugging. "I don't mind, though, I love a new friend, but overwhelming myself with people doesn't do me any good, you know?" Rosie shrugged a bit, setting her spoon down.

Rosie glanced up at Mae when Mae had mentioned that she hadn't been here for a while. "What do you mean? Like, not being back here." she asked. Mae pondered the thought of what she had meant. Was Mae really gone from Hogwarts so long. "Oh I mean like vacation, I spent a while away from Hogwarts and now I am back," Mae said jovially. Mae was quite confused genuinely as to where all of her fellow third years were, since being back she'd been to certain parts of the castle and hadn't seen any of her friends. Even in the common room which frankly was uncommon. Maybe Rosie knew where everyone was, seeing as everyone was coming off of the little break they had all received.

"Oh yeah, definitely. I try to keep track of everyone, but it's difficult. Especially since I'm not a prefect anymore." Rosie said laughing nervously. "I don't mind, though, I love a new friend, but overwhelming myself with people doesn't do me any good, you know?" she added, setting her spoon down.

"Yeah, I know what you mean, I mean we have so many people here I really shouldn't worry about how I haven't really seen any of my friends from third year," Mae said, laughing a little. "I mean, have you seen anyone from our third year yet?" Mae asked inquisitively. She hoped she wasn't talking poor Rosie's ear off, it was really nice having company. Mae believed that lunch would've been genuinely boring without having someone to talk to, maybe that is why she seemed so bored while coming to eat before the next class.

Oh. That was a lot less. Maybe, Rosie, your mind shouldn't go to the worse case scenario everytime. Vacations sounded nice, she didn't go on them that much with the chaos that was her home life in the last two years, but they were nice! Her step dad's family lived pretty close in London, so they had no real reason to go that far. But her dad promised her they'd go somewhere cool when she came back for the summer. "That's cool! Where did you go?" It must've been a sick vacation if she left during the school year, right?

Rosie trailed off as she asked if she had seen anyone from the third year. Of course she had! She'd seen Eris and Max, in horrible circumstances. She saw Serena like everyday. She saw Quinn and Reid everyday because they were her best friends. "Yeah, definitely. I mean, people like Quinn, Reid, Serena, Amadea, I see everyday before I leave the common room. Then I see others in our new electives. But I've just been trying to introduce myself to the other 2nd and 1st years so I can be familiar with people around the school." She nodded, shrugging. "Just gotta look, you'll find 'em." She encouraged.

"That's cool! Where did you go?" Rosie asked. What was a vacation to Mae was not really a vacation. It was the way that Mae had coped with having to go visit her sick grandmother. Halfway through her 3rd year her parents had to make an unplanned trip from Cork, Ireland to Derry, Northern Ireland to go and help her grandmother. This news was a shock to Mae as her mind immediately traveled to the worst that could happen. So, to help her cope and to have her friends not worry about her at Hogwarts, she simply called it a vacation. "Oh, well it wasn't a vacation more as it was a trip to Derry, Northern Ireland from my hometown of Cork, Ireland," Mae said solemnly, leaving out the part about her grandmother. She didn't want to become a bother to Rosie. After all, this very sweet girl was taking the time out of her day to talk to Mae when none of her friends had previously shown up to talk to her. Mae had made it her priority to 1. Put others in front of herself and 2. Not become a bother to anyone and she stood by this way of living. "Yeah, definitely. I mean, people like Quinn, Reid, Serena, Amadea, I see everyday before I leave the common room. Then I see others in our new electives. But I've just been trying to introduce myself to the other 2nd and 1st years so I can be familiar with people around the school." Rosie said in response to Mae asking if she had seen any of her 3rd year friends. "Just gotta look, you'll find 'em." she added encouragingly. Some of the names that Rosie had said sounded incredibly familiar. One stood out more than most and that was Serena. Mae almost knew for a fact that if this Hufflepuff was talking about another Hufflepuff then it was most certainly Serena Towers. On the subject of looking and finding her friends, that was becoming the real challenge.

OOC: I was thinking of this idea in a completely different way (Mae coming back to Hogwarts) so I just pulled a complete 180 because I had different inspiration from the way that your character interacted in the last post, so thank you the new idea above makes more sense about Mae's absence than what I had in mind.  :)

The slight mood drop in Mae signaled to Rosie that the trip might not have been as fun as she imagined. She winced internally, she asked too many questions. Again. She remembered at the worst time, that visiting other towns might not always be a good trip. She knew that too, the last time they visited her dad's family, they shamed him about his recent marriage with her step-dad. She just nodded at Mae, deciding not to press her about the trip anymore. She knew there was probably some bad news hidden in there somewhere, and she didn't want to trigger something in a place so public. Mae didn't deserve that, she was sweet. Clearly she didn't deserve something bad to happen to her, and it hurt Rosie's heart to think something did. She thought about this with her other friends too.

She took a few more bites of her waffles before taking a breath. "Well, I should be getting to class soon, I just came in for a late breakfast. But I'll see you around? Maybe we can go somewhere after classes and talk a little more." Rosie beamed at Mae, holding out her hand to her to shake. "I guess we never formally met, so here we are. It's lovely to meet you." Rosie said, leaning her other elbow on the table.

"Well, I should be getting to class soon, I just came in for a late breakfast. But I'll see you around? Maybe we can go somewhere after classes and talk a little more." Rosie beamed at Mae holding her hand out to shake. "Yes, it really was nice getting to meet you, I do hope we'll be able to go somewhere to talk after classes," Mae responded grabbing Rosie's hand to shake it. She was incredibly glad she got to meet Rosie, she believed she was a very nice and caring person. Mae had just hoped she hadn't scared her off or anything in her doom and gloom. She knew she was usually a bright and happy and bubbly person when it came down to it.  "I guess we never formally met, so here we are. It's lovely to meet you." Rosie added putting her elbows on the table. "Yes, it really was lovely to meet you, I actually have to get going as well for my next class," Mae said as she picked up her items and got ready to leave the Great Hall. "Bye," she said nicely with a smile as she headed out the door and to her next class. She was glad she went to go eat some lunch, she met a friend and got her spirits cheered up. Mae really did intend on hoping she would meet the very sweet Hufflepuff again.
