Just A Fainting Spell?
Aida's unconscious body arrived at the hospital. Whispers of a curse and of dark magic trailed behind them as the students in the Great Hall began to speculate, beginning what would be a chain of rumors spreading across the campus.
Upon entering the hospital wing a nurse immediately helped to lay Aida into a bed. The head nurse on duty began to look Aida over and began the usual assortment of tests, poking and prodding, until he quickly reached a conclusion.
The head nurse announced that she had only fainted and there did not seem to be any dark magic or curses involved. He then asked for them to tell him happened, but was interrupted by a terrible high-pitched scream coming from Aida.
Aida bolted up with eyes wide and arms flailing. Her already wild hair flew about in a storm as she panicked.
The nurse spoke authoritatively to calm Aida down. His stern look and voice were somehow extremely convincing and Aida stopped flying about.
"What is this place? Why have you taken me here?!" yelled Aida, clearly very confused. The nurse again used his commanding voice to calm his patient down, explaining that she had fainted and other students had taken her to the hospital at Hogwarts. "I'm sorry," said Aida. "I was confused. I had this dream, a terrible dream. A prison, I was locked away, screaming, and no one would let me out."
Aida sat back down on the bed now with quite a bit of grace, which had been completely absent before. "Thank you for helping me. I'm sorry to cause trouble. What are your names?" said Aida with a slight friendly smile. "I would like to repay your kindness one day. Please tell me right away if there's anything I can do for you."

Just A Fainting Spell?

Carrying a body was not something she expected to do, alone or with a companion. After all, that grand night back at the end of October, she hadn't carried anyone. She hadn't done anything useful at all. (Some might debate this, but to the blonde this was a crystal-clear fact.) But now was the opportunity for her to pay it back--pay back all the people who had helped her that night--by helping someone who needed her now. Some might chalk it up to the expectations of being a Perfect, but Ruthie hated being a Prefect and she'd never act strictly in accordance of those expectations, but rather out of respect of the moral code her parents had instilled within her.
Slithering through the corridors with another pupil leaning on her shoulder was harder than she might like to admit. As they moved, she wished for a moment that she had more of a beater's build. Perhaps Adam could show up and carry the girl like he'd carried Jorah before. But she kept on with the task in any case. They could do this together. Ruthie would be useful.
More slowly than she might like, they reached the hospital wing where their stowaway could be placed into the care of a much better equipped nurse. As for Ruthie, her right hand reached over to one of the columns in the door archway, as her body leaned against it to catch a breath. Raising her left hand to her chest, she didn't particularly pay attention to whatever the nurse might be doing or saying.
Until the scream. Her stormy grey eyes popped wide open at the sound, unsure what exactly was going on. Her head moved first, straining itself to see what was going on, but she couldn't catch it all. So, she stepped forward, her curiosity getting the better of her. The white-haired girl appeared to be in a frenzy. Swallowing, Ru didn't want this to turn into another Ball situation. Already the anxiety was creeping up her throat, but it seemed to quell once the girl's flailing subsided enough to address the people in the room.
Tucking her hair behind her ear, Ruthie listened: a dream, a prison, a life in confinement. She wasn't sure if this was just a nightmare or something more devious. The paper had certainly looked suspicious. "It's okay. I'm just glad we brought you up here. That was a good call," Ruthie explained with a small smile. (If Lydia stayed around, she would notice Ruthie offering a thankful look in her direction.) "My name is Ruth. First year, Ravenclaw," she introduced herself, deliberately omitting the Prefect part of her identity. Quidditch she'd mention with ease, but it wasn't exactly relevant here. "Just try not to faint at Ravenclaw table again. That's enough," she explained in response to the girl's concern over debt, "Do you recall anything about why you fainted?" Perhaps this was too much of a prying question for someone she'd just met, but her curiosity often got the better of her and this moment was no exception.

Just A Fainting Spell?
Aida was still bleary-eyed from having woken up suddenly and replied with a grainy voice, “Ruth. Nice to meet you. May I ask your surname? Thank you for your help… please do call on me if you are ever in need. An Ellwood always repays a favor.” Upon realizing she mentioned her own surname she blushed. How did I know that? thought Aida. “At least, that’s what I must have been told by my foster parent...” Aida’s violet-tinged eyes grew dark for a moment. She knew those words must not have been true but she could not think of another explanation, having been in foster care since the age of two. Aida shook her head and looked down. She felt bad, as if she had told a lie, but she couldn’t figure out how else to answer. “You asked me about why I fainted. I hate when people don’t answer my questions and you certainly deserve to know after you went out of your way to help me.” Aida’s slender fingers tucked her hair behind her ears as if she needed to concentrate.
“The letter… I need to get it back. It’s all I have left of my father now, or ever will.” Aida played with the genuine pearl beads of her necklace and stared across the room. “The father said, I mean, the letter said that my father could not recover my mother. He said they still love me. He did something the Ministry doesn’t like. I don’t really understand. I thought I had burned the words into my mind. I don’t understand. What did he do? Where is my mother? Why was the letter so short? Where is he and why can’t I see him? Where have they been all these years?"
Aida blushed, realizing she was still not actually answering Ruth's question. ”I don’t understand. How am I supposed to understand?” Aida spoke very quickly, as was her custom, but her voice was both upset and trembling. “Why am I here so alone?” she said looking up at Ruth, then realizing that was probably a rude thing to say. “Sorry, I mean, without my parents. I’m sorry, I know this is weird.” Aida shook her head again. She was not giving a straight-forward answer mostly because she didn't know herself. "I must have been... overcome with emotion at the sight of the letter..." said Aida, not really believing it herself but not having a better explanation. Aida looked down at her hands bleakly. She really hated lying, even when she didn't know the real answer.
