Letters Homebound

Wednesday, 3 September 2025Dear Mum,
I know it's been barely three days since we said goodbye at the train. I sent Arius back home so that she can finally inform you that your only daughter has joined the House of the Badgers. Hufflepuff. At least I'm a part of the dungeon-dwelling community? [a messily scrawled smiley face was drawn here— ":)"]
Mum, I would like to think that you (like me) have expected this outcome and are currently rejoicing. Or not. Please do tell my brothers that badgers are actually protective and dangerous when threatened or provoked. Or I'll just write them. Maybe then they will consider joining me here. On that note, please please also tell them not to wreck my room while I am away. Actually, just make sure that Henry doesn't try to hack my laptop or anything.
These past days have been fine. My first classes went well so far. I haven't had the chance to do Potions yet, it's later in the week. Transfiguration was interesting, but so far, Defense and Charms caught my eye best (to my dismay). The theories were interesting... and Herbology was great, but really I don't think I'll be saying the same when we get to the grittier parts of the lessons.
I think I miss home. Suddenly leaving for a boarding school is a bit strange. Thankfully, the Hufflepuff dorms also provide private rooms, so. It's nice, I think. I look forward to exploring the grounds. I have also made a friend, I think. I'm not sure. I'll write back a letter when we start talking daily (she's in a different House, you see.) Either way, I will be writing back soon. I hope.
With love,
Ellaine
P.S. Do you think it would be funny if I start doing letter-chess-matches to Henry back and forth? Actually wait I'll just write a letter to him tomorrow.
P.P.S I really miss Dad's shepherd's pie. don't tell him
