Emergency Weeding

—date. [ 01/03/26 ]——————word count. [ 761 ]— Heaven knows this castle appeared to remain intact purely by the grace of chance. Positive, at the Muggle primary school in Dover, an institution named after some saint or other, too, crises manifested themselves, yet never with such chronic severity. There, the absolute peak of human misery was the lack of toilet roll (simply because Samuel had nicked it again). Or, as another alternative artificial disaster, the drama of Mrs Smith's blood pressure crashing faster than the global market. But there, the courtyard flora never mutated out of control, spilt potions did not threaten to gas the student body, and one certainly did not wake to scandalous news that a faculty member had been arrested for moonlighting as a werewolf. Hogwarts, on the other hand, was a law unto itself. It felt as though the manic soul of a seaside town entertainer, desperate to force adrenaline upon an audience, had haunted the castle. What heaven knew even better was the undeniable truth that Roland longed for some truly peaceful hours on this beautiful March day, missing the simple luxury of being lazy. Over the past few months, the boy had somehow accumulated excellent grades, discovering to his own surprise that he could brew a potion without poisoning someone and cast a spell without causing a terrible explosion. It was properly shocking given the fact that, at his former school back in Dover, Roland had constituted a complete and utter academic disaster. The boy was quite famous for declaring he would rather hurl himself from a pear tree a thousand times than suffer the grim torture of a prolonged maths lesson, and at the close of each and every term, a discreet and slightly dishonourable arrangement would be struck between the grunt principal and Roland's parents, in spite of his rather impressive absenteeism, all thanks to the fact that a sufficiently (but not excessively) generous donation would miraculuously propel him into the next grade. In the Marin house, formal schooling was, after all, disdained as a bourgeois convention. Schools, the Marins had always considered, were nothing but insurmountable grey temples of boredom built to crush the spirit and ruin the rainbow-coloured landscape of real life. But, dear reader, you were told that Hogwarts was a different breed of madness. It was the only school in the world where even Roland could accidentally succeed. For Roland to simply ignore the notice calling for aid at the greenhouses would have been against many unchallengables: the nature of things, laws of nature, basic physics, and ultimately, fate itself. The Sorting Hat, after all, had deliberately sorted the boy into Gryffindor, the bastion of courage. Was not their crimson-clad founder, the one and only Godric, the heavily-armed patron saint of downtrodden and the overbearing centre of every heroic tragedy? Must be confessed, Roland was left with a singular path. He was duty bound to run, and then out of breath, to sprint toward the greenhouses to save the school from the mortal peril of those unnecessarily passionate Bouncing Bulbs. If he failed to miss a chance to perform gallantry, well, who could say? A cosmic tremor might shatter the earth, the firmament would descend upon mankind, a thoroughly biblical doom might decide to debut in Scotland... No, sir, no. He couldn't possibly let that happen, the young lion could not permit such a calamity to unfold upon his watch! When Roland finally arrived at the crime scene, the greenhouses were plunged into a situation that could be described as controlled chaos. Nature, having apparently grown sick and tired of being chopped up and stewed in cauldrons, was staging a rather spirited rebellion as if endeavouring to besiege the castle in a manner most similar to the Tartar hordes of antiquity. If Roland had been fortunate enough not to be imprisoned within the boundaries of bones and skin, hovering as some detached ghost above the fray, he might've sided with the weeds. Down with human arrogance! Yet, and yet, bound as he was to fragile human flesh, the distinctly unpleasant idea of being devoured by a hostile houseplant like Mario did not particulary appealed to him. He advanced, therefore, with deliberate intent, extracted his wand, and cast the spell: "Flipendo!" Outside of the classroom, Roland rarely bothered with magic, still clinging to the ordinary habits of his life back in the Muggledom. He felt a spark of joy. Skipping almost giddily among his sweating fellow students who were wrestling the rebellious flora with their bare hands or mixing potions, he decided to continue administering even more Knockback Jinxes. Skylar quickly rushed towards the greenhouse, her breakfast still in her hand. She had just came out of the Great Hall when she saw the emergency announcement on the bulletin board. Professor Lesmana and Professor Jurema sounded incredibly urgent in their message, so Skylar immediately headed for the greenhouse. She wonders just what could have happened to enlist such urgency from the students. She quickens her steps as the greenhouse came closer in the distance, but stops short when she sees just how chaotic things truly were.
Bouncing Bulbs were wreaking havoc everywhere. Pots, crates, shelves, everything was broken. Unnatural growth of weeds and grasses overran the entire building. Some students were casting knockback jinxes to subdue the Bouncing Bulbs, others were trying to get rid of the weeds that were growing everywhere.
Skylar makes way towards the various tables that were in front of the greenhouse. She may not know enough spells to calm the Bouncing Bulbs, but she can brew potions. She quickly looks at the instructions for brewing the Herbicide potion and readies her supplies. She is going to have to complete this potion quick to save the greenhouse.
First she gathers her ingredients: Four Spines of Lionfish, Two Measures of Standard Ingredient, Two Measures of Horklump Juice, and Two “Blobs” of Flobberworm Mucus. She grabs a mortar and adds the four spines of lionfish into it. After crushing it to a rough powder, she adds the two measures of standard ingredient and repeats the motion. Once done, she scoops three measures of the crushed powder into her cauldron and waves her wand.
Now all she has to do it wait. Skylar feels jittery and unable to sit still, especially when she knows there is more to do. So, while waiting for her mixture to sit, she helps weed the overgrowth surrounding the greenhouse. She will have to do it by hand for now, since the potion is still brewing. Finally, after an hour, Skylar comes back to potion and continues to brew.
She adds the two measures of Horklump juice into her cauldron and heated it for about ten seconds. While heated, she also adds the two blobs of Flobberworm mucus. She tries not to drop it on the table as she transfers it into the cauldron, because the goopy substance is incredibly slippery. Once all the ingredients are in, she stirs the pot clockwise four times, making sure she did not stir more or less. Making potions are incredibly procedural, and if she ruins even one little thing, the whole mixture will go to waste. At last, she waves her wand over the potion and completes it.
Skylar breaths a sigh of relief at the successful brewing. She could not afford to fail, especially now when help is needed the most. Carefully transferring the potion into a vial, Skylar carries it over to the greenhouse. Multiple students were there as well, all for one thing --- to save the greenhouse.

Zephyr saw the announcement about the emergency weeding and since he's got nothing else to do that Sunday morning, he decided on going. Anything that involves him doing something productive, expect him to be there and offering his help. What he didn't expect was the sight that greeted him as soon as he came near the greenhouse. Without going inside yet, he could already tell things were worse than he expected. There were several crashes inside which told him how urgent this was. The professor was currently explaining what happened and what needed to be done. As he heard another commotion inside, his instinct told him to help with the bouncing bulb as it sounded like a lot was happening there.
He pulled his wand hidden from his sleeve and gripped it tightly. What could have triggered the bouncing bulb to wreck havoc like this? It's better to be prepared as this could go wrong real fast. Some glass shattered too which almost made him jump in shock. What in the world....? Something came flying out before he could fully process it. His eyes snapped toward it and then he saw who it was heading for. Skylar!!
There was not much time to think, he just raised his wand automatically and casted, “Flipendo!” His spell hit the bouncing bulb while it was in the air, knocking it off course just before it could reach his friend. It bounced hard against the ground and rolled away, still twitching when he checked it. He didn't think thing through, it was just the right thing to do in that moment. Turning to Skylar, he smirked at her, "You look like you're in need of help. Good thing I came at the right time. I'm here to help too."
He made a quick assessment of the current situation inside the greenhouse, taking in the broken glass, the scattered soil, the movement inside. “This is an epic mess.” He would rather not handle something like this completely alone. Glad there were other students helping. Skylar grabbed his attention once again and asked him to start their task. "We shall.." and started thinking through what needed to be done. His eyes tracked one of the bulbs bouncing and knocking into a table and sending more things to the ground. “They’re causing more damage!”
Another bulb came bouncing toward them so he reacted immediately. “Flipendo!” It slammed into a bench and dropped. A second one launched itself across the room, knocking over a pot before he hit it with another, “Flipendo!” It still managed one last weak bounce before dropping to the ground near his feet. He looked at the small pile of calmed bulbs and turned to Skylar, "That should do it. You okay?"

Emergency Weeding
The Sunday morning started out like any other. Fawkes woke up, got ready, headed to the hall to have breakfast and then proceeded to walk back to her dorm to figure out what to do for the day. It was starting to warm up as spring came in but it was still fairly cold which made it the perfect weather to go out to the courtyard or grounds to take a walk or to do some reading. She hummed to herself as she walked but then paused as she spotted the notice board.
Immediate help in the greenhouse required? Well she did have free time but what if it was just a minor thing? No but then why would they put up a notice? Her mother did say curiosity killed the cat. But then again she wasn't a cat. Her father used to say that being curious was very important and helped with growing into a good person. Perhaps that's why she was a Ravenclaw. Her curiosity knew no bounds which is why she found herself in front of the greenhouse with a bunch of other students.
The greenhouse was a mess to say the least. Bouncing bulbs everywhere causing havoc. She was glad she decided to come down to the greenhouses to help cause with the way things were it certainly looked like the Professors needed whatever help they could get. She immediately noticed the potion stations set up for the herbicide potion. She had found out that she was rather good at potions as well. So she walked over ready to start brewing.
Fawkes first carefully portioned out the materials. 4 Spines of Lionfish. That was easy enough. 2 Measures of Standard ingredient. Again, simple work. 2 Measures of Horklump Juice. The names of magical creatures never failed to make her laugh with how ridiculous they were compared to normal animals. 2 “Blobs” of Flobberworm Mucus. The most annoying one. She disliked the texture of it but knew it was important for the potion to work properly.
Next she got ready to begin the process of making it. She first added the lionfish spines to the mortar and began to crush them with the pestle. This was the fun part since it didn't need to be crushed precisely. She then did the same with the standard ingredient. After that she measured out 3 measures of the powder and added it into her cauldron. She pulled her wand out of her robe and gave it a wave before letting it brew for the required time. Meanwhile she checked on the others to see if they needed help.
Once the brewing time was done, she added the Horklump juice into the cauldron and turned the heat to medium for 10 seconds before then adding the Flobberworm mucus. She then stirred 4 times taking a minute to remember which was the clockwise direction to make sure she didn't stir it the wrong way. When she was done she waved her wand, completing the potion. It was then ready to be bottled which she did promptly and then left to go hand it to the others inside the greenhouse so that it could be applied. She continued to help brew potions as needed making sure to help the others brewing in case they needed it.

She did not hesitate.
When she first saw the notice pinned on the announcement board, she had already started to turn the heel of her foot, making her way out the door, then up the to the great hall, the parchment barely given attention as she started to walk towards the greenhouses; for urgency hadn't required anymore wasted time, it needed immediate action.
The scene that greeted her, however, was something she could only describe as ...inefficient.
For there were broken pots, spilled potions, and overgrown weeds creeping up where it had no business being. And the bouncing bulbs — they were absolutely erratic, uncontrolled and so destructive; it was almost offensive in its disorder.
Tatiana exhaled softly.
“Right.”
Among the three, she had chosen the brewing activity first for there was absolutely no point in rushing into chaos whilst unprepared.
She followed the instructions she could recall from their first lesson in Potions as best and as accurately as she could: Lionfish spines into the mortar first, crushed steadily and with measured force, not rushed nor careless. Then, the standard ingredient followed, two measurements into the mortar, ground down into the same consistency as the spines were before portioning it cleanly into the cauldron.
The, she flicked her wand.
Stepped back, letting her potion brew as instructed, her eyes occasionally drifting off towards the greenhouse where there was unexplained ruckus and movement and noise that spilled outwards. When the time passed, she returned to her cauldron without hesitation.
“Horklump Juice,” she recited, remembering it fondly from the lesson due to the fact she found the name odd and funny. Then, heat. After that, flobberworm mucus, added whilst the potion was still simmering, before stirring exactly four times, clockwise, none more nor less.
And another flick of her wand, and the potion finally settled.
Tatiana, however, had not lingered.
With the cauldron handled and the potion secured, she returned back to the greenhouses itself. The air inside was thicker somehow, tangled with the scent of overgrowth and disruption. Her gaze wandered into some nearby planters, where there were already weeds choking the base of several of them. She knelt, then applied herbicide efficiently yet carefully.
The effect was almost immediate.
Their invasive growth had recoiled instantly, withering back just enough to restore the balance without harming the surrounding plants — just as it ought to be.
A sudden thud around her left shoulder drew her attention. One of the bouncing
bulbs were ricocheting wildly off of a broken crate. The girl straightened, her eyes narrowing slightly as she tracked its erratic movement.
“Flipendo”, her voice calm and certain. The spell struck cleanly, knocking the bulb away from her mid-motion before it could've caused further damage.

Emergency Weeding
It was Sunday morning, and Marcella, who was exploring, saw the announcement about the emergency weeding in the greenhouse. At first, Marcella had misread 'weeding' as 'wedding', which caused her quite a bit of confusion and a lot of shock. After rushing back to her dorm to put on some gloves and make her way to the greenhouse, no amount of foreshadowing would have prepared her for the sight that greeted her as she neared the greenhouse. A loud bang was heard inside it; whatever it was, the greenhouse was in a dangerous state. The professor was currently explaining what happened and what needed to be done. After seeing the struggle and hearing many commotions from inside the greenhouse, Marcella decided to help with the bouncing bulb as it sounded like a lot was happening there.
Marcella stayed back with Professor Lesmana to brew some Herbicide Potions to treat the weed overgrowth. Once the potion is finished, we were to join the rest in the greenhouse. Tables were already prepared outside the greenhouse, and cauldrons were set on each table along with the ingredients and the instructions to brew Herbicide Potions. She decided that she'd put her memory to the test and make the potion by remembering everything she remembers.
She started by adding 4 lionfish spines to the mortar and crushing them into a rough powder using the pestle. Then she added 2 measures of Standard Ingredient to the mortar and crushed it into a rough powder. After that, she added 3 measures of the crushed mixture to the cauldron and waved her wand. Marcella then left the potion to brew and returned in an hour. She honestly had zoned out thinking about what she'd do next, and almost forgot about the potion.
After letting the potion brew for a while, Marcella added 2 measures of Horklump juice to the cauldron and heated it to a medium temperature for 10 seconds. Then she added 2 blobs of Flobberworm Mucus to the cauldron while it was still heating. Marcella then stirred 4 times, clockwise, and she waved her wand to complete the potion. Marcella had made the potion from memory. She prided herself on being plenty good at Potions. It was her favourite subject too. Back in London, her aunt had this big alchemy book, which she'd read to Marcella. She then bottled up the potion she made so she could use it on the weeds.

The color drained from Kaitlyn’s face at the announcement of the disheveled greenhouse! The poor bouncing bulbs! Oh, and the weeds! Oh, no, the weeds! This wasn’t good at all! The young Slytherin prefect had been so busy recently that she hadn’t thought of a time to ask the new Herbology professor, Professor Jurema, if she could continue helping out in the greenhouse as she did with the previous Herbology professor, Professor Toussaint-Fleischer. She absolutely loved plants and caring for them! She made a mental note to ask at some point.
For now, however, the young snake stood in front of a cauldron, wiping sweat off her brow, as she kept glancing at the steps for the Herbicide potion from her Potions textbook. The last thing she wanted to do was to mess up brewing a potion that she should know how to brew out of carelessness. Miss Kaitlyn Connor was many things, but careless was definitely not one of her attributes.
Spines of Lionfish. Standard Ingredient. Horklump Juice. Flobberworm Mucus (her favorite ingredient. Honestly, she loved it ever since her first year! Was it weird and crazy? Of course! But that didn’t stop her! The mucus was just so squishy and fun to play with!). Kaitlyn followed the potion recipe to the letter and stirred her cauldron as needed. A quiet hum escaped her lips as she continued her diligent work.
After finishing up the initial mixture of ingredients and letting the cauldron boil, Kaitlyn glanced around. A bright smile crossed her lips, as she saw other students rushing to help the greenhouse, just like her! Some came to brew the Herbicide potion, as she was currently working on. Others came to rip weeds right out of the ground (honestly, this wasn’t her favorite method … not because of the working in the dirt - she actually loved working in the dirt, so she wouldn’t have minded it … rather because of the abrupt trauma to the soil around the weeds. Yes, weeds were bad, but so was damaging the soil around the weeds). Even more students went inside to control the bouncing bulbs … which was her next item on her agenda (after finishing her potion and applying it to even more weeds).
The young Slytherin teenager gently played with her pigtail braids, and took a step away from her cauldron, as she let its mixture boil for the desired amount of time. As much as she loved the greenhouse, she wanted to be responsible with her work. She was here to help, after all. Watering and pruning the plants was always helpful, but there was always so much more that she could do. Sometimes it would require her to take a step back, and verify that she was properly brewing what was required. And, of course, she would always take time to hug and cuddle the plants. They needed love, too!
She let her blue eyes look back at the boiling cauldron as she waited.

Emergency Weeding
The fog hugged the glass panes when Elise got to the building since she got there at an early time. She was convinced that no one else had arrived yet.
The area of chaos was so because she had expected to find an orderly environment.
The sounds from outside the trees created disruptive noises that were like broken dish noises and people fighting over stones and sneaky sounds that traveled through the atmosphere. The evidence appeared before her because the proof was in her sight. Evidence presented itself to her as proof existed in her perception, disruptive noise emanating sounds from outside the trees produced noise in the form of broken dishes and people fighting on stones and secretive sound that sleeted through the atmosphere.
This stillness was followed by breathing. It was therefore logical for the writer to argue that the scene took a little time before the full view was visible. She looked at the whole area that lay before her. The whole situation registered in her mind without the use of any spoken language. The atmosphere around her transitioned. This change in atmosphere led to temporal distortion as she became conscious of her environment. She remained fixed, taking in each detail. The whole scene evolved gradually because nothing was in existence at that particular moment.
Her eyes darted between the greenhouse and the outdoor tables as she followed her directions. The cauldrons stood ready with materials that had been pre-arranged in place. Other students walked around the area because they wanted to complete their selected task. Some students entered the glass room while the others went to work at once.
Elise exhibited uncertainty.
Weeds grew out of the ground next to the greenhouse, which was a result of the formation of weeds between green plants that showed their best status. She stood there, her eyes down, with choices hanging behind her like words left unsaid. The group went ahead – she remained motionless, watching dirt instead of steps.
She dropped down to her knees. She crept closer to the area until her footsteps were completely muffled.
The appearance of the weeds was tougher due to their green knots, which was evident through the soil. She used her palms to sweep dirt aside from the portion where she grasped the low stem. She pulled the plant out of the ground to make sure that she got all the roots.
It pushed back, then gave up.
She moved her fingers to push the first object out of her way. With her hands, she grabbed the following item.
