THUMP!

The last of the books were dumped on the table, Emily squishing them back into the neat and tidy tower she had them in earlier when she first picked them up. She scanned all three tables, all piled high with books she had willingly donated for this endeavour. Looking at them all, she was embarrassed to see just how many she had accumulated. She loved books, but even this many was quite surprising. There was enough to fill a section of a bookshop. When Emily had decanted the books, her dormitory looked almost completely bare afterwards!

Initially hesitant about giving away her precious books, Emily realised that she had read them all at least several hundred times by now. If she were to pick up any of them and start reading them - like say, Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights that sat on top of a pile closest to Emily's right side - chances are, Emily would only have made it to the fifth chapter before she would spoil herself with knowing the rest of the plot and thus cease reading to the end. That was the great curse of books, you read them enough times and soon the book is ingrained like some memory e-book that stops all use of having the paper copy, other than for the novelty of, "I have the book. See if you can guess if I've actually read it and not just to make me seem smart."

But Emily made a good point for herself to keep some of those kinds of books, no matter how well she could recite them by heart. Orwell had a few gems worth keeping, especially a very important novel that both she and "Auntie" insisted were relevant to this day. Same as Wells - The Red Room being one of many favourites from him for the Huffie. And no way in the nine layers of Dante's Inferno would Emily give away her prized collection of novellas from Robert Louis Stevenson! She could have ten copies of any one of his works and she wouldn't give them away. Stevenson was worth overwhelming the house with, no matter how many times "Auntie" encouraged a gentle clear-out.

Along the front of the tables, Emily had signs she crafted herself, all reading the following:
Swap out a book of yours with one of these!
Take these for free! Give them a well-deserved home!
She had every faith these books would be loved and cherished by the other students and teachers around the school. She sent word out to the Literature Club in particular about this little after-class stunt. If anyone ought to be interested, it would be the members of Emily's own reading and writing club. About time she did something with it. Hopefully her literary acquaintances had been keeping themselves occupied with reading material in the long gaps between club meetings. And if not, then Emily hoped even harder that this small event would help revamp the club some after months of infrequent get-togethers.

Another pile of paper sat on a small cabinet table by the door. It was another collection, this time a tower of leaflets advertising the following:
Writing Revamp on 19th March!
Bring your poems! Bring your books! Bring your friends!
Time to reignite literature!
With these, she hoped there'd be some buzz about the club again. An open call event for anyone to share their favourite book, a poem or other literary work they've written, and of course some snackies to accompany the affair.

Emily kept anxiously peeking out into the corridor, hoping that someone would walk in and at least browse the books she brought in.

Literature can be fun. No. Literature is fun!

And this would be Emily's way of proving it.

Talking with @Emily Shephard, open to all interactions

Simon heard that Emily Shephard had something going on in one of the classrooms on the Second Floor of the castle and after stopping by the Hospital Wing to see his hours for the upcoming week for his internship, he decided he'd check it out.

"And a lemon drop before I go," he said as he placed down a small dosage cup that normally would contain medicine. Simon smiled to the first year and then signed out on a clipboard near the door and headed out.

Down one flight of stairs, he quickly found the right room. "Emily!" he said as he entered and smiled widely seeing her. "Good to see you!" It felt like it had been awhile. His eyes scanned over the message and then he found himself glancing over the titles mentioned upon the spines of the books that were stacked before him. His eyes instantly gravitated to one and he removed the books on top of it, creating a new stack, and taking a copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll - a perfect read for the upcoming Spring dance theme.

But did he have a book to leave? Surely he must! Simon slipped his enchanted satchel off of his shoulder and placed it on the wooden workspace, rifling through it. He wouldn't give his favorite copy of it, but he knew he had more than one in here - it was a book he thought everyone needed to read multiple times in their lives because they'd discover something different and something important each time. The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

Simon had been in the hospital wing finishing up his internship hours when he overheard one of the visitors say they saw Emily Shephard taking a bunch of books to one of the classrooms on the second floor of the castle. They had mentioned something about there being so many that Simon grew curious as to what his Hufflepuff pal was up to and decided he would check it out when his internship ended.

He retrieved it and placed it on the top of a stack, hoping someone might take it.

It was now that he saw another note. "Sounds interesting," he noted after reading it. "Able to give a preview as to what it invovles?"

A light hum escaped Kaitlyn’s lips, as she gently glided through the corridors of Hogwarts. Today was an interesting day, to be sure! And, it was even more interesting, as Emily Shepard organized today to be a book swap. From her personal understanding, Kaitlyn believed it to be connected to the Hufflepuff’s Literature Club … one that she had to admit that she didn’t have the best attendance record with. She quite enjoyed literature, as a matter of fact! Sadly, life knew how to drag her away. She was at Hogwarts to learn, certainly, but literature held a special place in her heart. She loved books and libraries! All the more, it was the prime reason she wanted to join the literature club!

As much as Kaitlyn loved to read, she was blossoming into an amateur poet. Very amateur, in her opinion. But one had to start somewhere, right? And to think, she was a young teenager at 14-years-old. Who knew what time would hold for her in the future? As cool as magic was, the future was still a pretty hazy construct. Divination was proving to be a mystical class … and yet one where she had no idea how much to actually believe.

Her heels clicked against the ground as the young Slytherin approached the classroom in question. Her satchel bounced along her hip in her graceful movement. While she was still living her muggle life, she could easily spend hours in bookstores. Fudge, even now, she could still spend hours looking through books, if she really wanted to do so (and, let’s face it, she would never give up an opportunity to look through books). Whether they were new or not didn’t matter to her at all. The words on the page were still awesome, no matter if the spine was just opened or if it was cracked from multiple uses.

Upon turning the corner of the classroom, a bright smile bloomed on Kaitlyn’s cheeks. “Hi Emily! Hi Simon!” she greeted them both. Before moving to the plethora of words to explore on the table, she stopped to read the message provided … most likely from Emily. Of course, the joy of a book swap was to exchange books! You gave up one of yours and received one in return. The beauty of it was that you could potentially receive a book from a genre you didn’t normally read. There was nothing wrong with that, of course. But it was a great way to broaden your horizons!

While at her muggle all-girls Catholic boarding school, St. Ann’s, they surprisingly didn’t hold too many book-related events (book swaps or otherwise). They focused more on etiquette training and growing the girls into polite young women. Kaitlyn often found her obsession for books more so off the boarding school’s campus … usually surrounded by her awesome friend group. It was no wonder that she enjoyed reading so much!

Her blue eyes glowed at the reminder on the note. She opened her enchanted satchel and rummaged inside for a bit. Honestly, she had no idea if she could ever put her entire book collection out for a book swap, but she wouldn’t mind donating a few titles, at the very least. Her delicate fingers nudged back a worn copy of Dante’s Inferno (dog-eared with notes) and pulled out a book from the depths of her satchel. The Giver, by Lois Lowry, was a timeless classic, in her opinion. Utopian societies were always made to be the end goal, and yet, it rarely worked out. She placed the book within Emily’s selection.

Kaitlyn moved slowly, glancing through the provided books. After a few moments, her eyes focused on one in particular … Fahrenheit 451. A smile formed on her lips, as she read the description on the back cover. Book burning! What a great book to read to rediscover one’s love of books.

Emiline knew she'd need to go to her first club meeting. First impressions count! Well...... technically first impression for the club members but not Emily Shephard, Emiline had met Emily before. Their similar names just seemed to help push them together.

Coincidentally, when Emiline joined, she knew none of the members but as a few meetings went by she realised she knew rather a lot of them. Like Simon, her older puff buddy who always gave a listening ear, Kaitlyn ...... is just perfect and Emi her library pal who likes muggle sweets too!

She knew this club meeting was different to the others, a book swap. Emiline knew the exact book she'd bring The Cruel Prince It was a great novel. And despite the phrase, I couldn't put it down being overused, it summed up how Emiline was while reading it. To not spoil the plot, it was brilliant as it had such an unexpected twist, and made one hate the first love interest.

Gently peering into the classroom where Em had been told to come, she looked around before spotting Emily, Simon and Kaitlyn! "Guess, I wasn't as early as I thought. Hiya guys!" And with that, she moved further into the classroom, towards her friends and the books!

At the book swap with @Emily Shephard, @Kaitlyn Connor, @Emiline Hunter

"Hi, Kaitlyn!" he said as she walked into the room. Simon smiled, not only because others were coming and showing interest in Emily's event but it was also good to see her again after so long. "How has Hogwarts been treating you?" It wasn't long after that Emiline Hunter made her way into the classroom where the book swap was being held. "Good to see you, Em," he said to her, also with a bright smile.

"Which book do you think you ladies will choose?"
he asked as he looked down at his own. Maybe that's not what he should choose. His eyes began to scan the others that were stacked upon the tables. There was so much assortment. Amongst the stacks was a copy of the book that had earlier been referenced, unbeknownst to him, Dante's Divine Comedy.

Simon thought back to the train ride he took with his father back in the summer of 2024. His father had brought a worn copy of "Divinia Commedia" with him, the entire piece created by Dante Alighieri wheras the Inferno was just the first section of the trilogy. He had asked his father how many times he had read it and how many languages he spoke since the title had not been in the English language but recieved no answer for either.

Simon was no expert on the text, but he knew that it had to do about moral judgement, hierarchy, punishment, and justification for suffering. Knowing all the knew now of what truly was going on in the Cornwall area, perhaps his father saw himself as an authoritarian that could rank others - classifying eople and assigning them a role and therefore deciding the outcomes of other's lives. It would demonstrate how his livestock came to be within his posession, why he thought he could assign Simon's bride, why he thought Simon would merely fall into place as his right hand man.

He tried so hard to get control, to have this dominance over his life, but somewhere along the way it became not just controlling but a warped belief system where he believed, in his extreme arrogance, he could came divine justice. Somehow, he felt heaven was something that could be manipulated and that's not how any of this worked.

His father had twisted the themes of the book, he had shifted justice, repentance and divine order to his own fitting - just as he had attempted to do with everything in his 'life.' It was control instead of order, explotation instead of justice, manipulation instead of repentance.

Adrian Hawthorne was a controlling authority and Simon Kincaid had been a test of whether autonomy, morality, or love could survive under absolute control.

Simon Kincaid was here, attending a friend's book swap within the second floor classroom of Hogwarts School Witchcraft and Wizardry and his father was no longer in the shadows - of his life, back in Babilstowe, or anywhere at all.

Speech -- Thoughts

Well Pam had signed up for the club without thinking twice. In fact, she'd probably not even thought once. She'd seen the word "book" in the name, figured it was some kind of book club and had already signed up for it before she got around to figuring out the purpose of said book club.

Not that she regretted it.

Still, the first meet-up caught her on a rather bad day; one of those days where she wished she could spend all day holed up in her room under her blankets.

But curiosity was an annoying thing. And so she found herself cross-legged in front of her trunk, sorting through the multitude of her books to find one she could take for the swapping.

That was easier said than done. Pam was not someone who would willingly give away her books, even if she had ten copies of the same one. She was possessive, even of the books she didn't like all that much. She supposed it wasn't a very good thing.

Still, she finally managed to find a book she could convince herself to part with. Agatha Christie's "The ABC Murders". It was the second copy she had of the book, the one with the less pretty cover.

She supposed she could part with said book.

She soon found herself in the Second Floor corridor, heading towards the classroom where the event was being held.

Emily Shephard. Pam knew her, an older Hufflepuff. However, she couldn't remember ever actually speaking to said Hufflepuff. She did hope it was a case of 'never interacted before' and not 'interacted but forgotten'.

She stepped into the room, and was startled to see a few familiar faces. A Slytherin. "Kaitlyn!" She greeted warmly. Pam had seen the girl around multiple times, specially last month when they'd shared a Yurt at Koldovstoretz and Pam had grown to like her.

Then there was Simon. Pam noticed him as she stepped deeper into the room, specifically towards the pile of books that had drawn her attention. "Hi Simon." She greeted, eyes briefly falling to the book in his hand before she shifted to the one person she did not know. "Hello. I'm Pam." She smiled, before stopping in front of the stack of books, and Emily.

"Hello." She murmured, suddenly shy like she always was talking to someone for the first time. She pulled out the book she'd brought with her and set it down in front of her. "I uh.. brought this."

Why was she feeling awkward?

She turned away to scan the books around her, wondering which one she should pick.

Squee!

Emily bounced when she saw people walk into the room. The first to peek their head round the door was-

"Simon!"

AngelFyre's beloved! And he was still looking as dashing as ever! What a lucky lass, Fyre was. Emily skipped to the other side of the room and capture Simon in a hug. First one of the day!

"You came!" She ushered Simon further into the room. "Oh! And you brought a book for the Swap!"

She could spot that iconic front cover of Simon's book a mile away. "The Little Prince...! Such a lovely choice. Always made me cry when Auntie would read it to me though..." She flicked through the pages of Simon's book before giving it back to him. Her Badger peer had his eyes set on the flyers for her Writing Revamp event. Her eyes sparkled when she detected the hint of interest in Simon's voice when he asked about it.

"Well, it's been a long time since we've all got together as a club!" she explained. "And since Spring is the busiest time of the school year with exams and all... I thought a bit of creative dopamine could help everyone unwind! A creative reset, if you will!"

At the same time she was chatting with Simon, more people came in. Kaitlyn came in, honed in on the books like a butterfly attracted to a flower. Emily waved before running up to drift behind her, watching as Kaitlyn snooped around the healthy choice of books laid before her. Her eyes eventually circled the stacks of dystopian novels in the middle.

"Quite the story with that one!" Emily said, gesturing towards Fahrenheit 451. "It is certainly one of the more hopeful dystopian books I've read...!"

The door creaked open again and in appeared two other familiar faces.

"EM!"

Emily bid a quick be-right-back pat to Kaitlyn's shoulder before tackling Emiline in a hug. Behind her was a littler Huffie, Pamela. She'd seen the cutie patootie student around the Hufflepuff Common Room before. Emily gave a hug to her younger peer and invited them into the room.

"You're bang on time, friends! And I see you've brought books for the Swap too!" Emily tapped Pamela's and Emiline's donations, clapping giddily at the effort that's being shown between her club members.

Emily giggled excitedly. "What a great start! Hopefully this'll be enough to kickstart the event! The more people both inside and outside the club that joins in, the greater the audience will be for the beautiful books to go home with. And of course, spreading the word about our planned Writing Revamp event!

Ophélie had never felt more enthousiastic before, when she spotted the literature club. She had signed up with the purpose of being able to share her love of books and well-made stories and why not, meet new people. The idea was indeed charming, which is why she gave in to it without further procrastination.

So when she noticed the exchange of books that was taking place on the second floor of the castle, she took her responsibilities with both hands and quickly returned to the dormitory to find an interesting book to give.
In theory finding a good book is easy, she only has fantastic books. On the other hand, the real challenge was to find a book that she would agree to exchange and, she was not ready for that. How can anyone think that we can give books away ? You have to be insensitive to part with it so naturally !

The choice was hard and tedious. What could she separate herself from? She hesitated for a few more minutes before leaning towards the series that rocked her entire childhood. Guardians of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger. A serie so heartwarming that she ended up reading it countless times, for all the reasons imaginable... as if there was nothing else to read in her home library!
Just the thought of being able to share the pleasure of her readings and to exchange about them, once someone has chosen it, Ophélie's motivation reaches its peak. It is by humming cheerfully that she reaches the meeting place.

Five people were already present in the room, including a particularly tall young man, with hair as black as her own, who was chatting loudly with another Hufflepuff. No one seemed to have noticed her yet, hesitating on the doorstep. But Ophélie knew what she wanted and for the first time in her life, she took the initiative to go to strangers
The strangers in question seemed rather friendly to her, which helped her to compose a calm and serene face before entering.

She stepped forward, her heart pounding, to greet the members of the club and managed to throw a relatively steady hello to the group. Her cheeks warmed up when she met someone else's curious gaze and walked away to get to the table to drop off her book and take a look at the massive piles already there. After a quick observation, she chose one that she had already wanted to read for some time, without ever having taken the opportunity.
The Cruel Prince had always intrigued her but the comments from her closed-ones, had pushed the book farther in her reading pile. She thought it was a good opportunity to discover it and take it in her hands without waiting more.

If there are still mistakes in the translation, unclear or incoherent things, please tell me were to look, it's translated by Ai but even if I read it after, to correct some things, there may be imperfections ! Thank you ;) Here is the original production :

Gardians of the lost cities de Shannon Messenger.

Kaitlyn chuckled at Emily’s comments about the book. She always found personal anecdotes about books to be by far more helpful than just a book summary. It certainly gave her hope. “I’m glad to hear it! I must say, it sounds intriguing!” Before she could think of something else to say … the door opened.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

Kait felt her heart beat in her chest … with growing frequency, as her blue eyes noticed a certain Hufflepuff girl … by the name of Emiline. ‘Of course, books! Books are always a good choice,’ she observed. A smile crossed her lips. It was always great to see another book lover … She waved at her. “Hi Emi. Perfect timing,” she spoke as she tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear.

She didn’t look away immediately, holding Emiline in her sight for a beat longer than necessary before looking back at Fahrenheit 451. She looked back at Simon, at his question. “I’ve been good, and very well rested,” she laughed. Being a prefect, she was sometimes up at night worrying … or reading … or writing … or playing with her bunny … or coddling her honking daffodils … or drawing … or, whelp, just hiding. “How have you been?”

Looking back at the book in her hands, Kaitlyn then glanced back at Simon. “Not sure yet, this one looks promising,” she continued, gesturing at Fahrenheit 451.

Before she could look at the book’s summary on its back cover, Kaitlyn smiled at the latest girl to come, Pamela. A second-year Hufflepuff. “Hi Pam!” She greeted her with a bright smile. She loved seeing other students she knew … especially when they shared activities or hobbies she held dear. A smile crossed her lips, as Emily mentioned a Writing Revamp event. As much as she loved to read, she also liked to write. Her writing was mostly poetry at this point, but she was always willing to try new things.

The Slytherin noticed a young girl enter the room. Kaitlyn recalled just how shy she was as a young first-year student. Sure, she was a prefect, and knew that it was frankly one of her responsibilities to make sure first years felt welcome, but she also didn’t want to spook the girl. Besides, if the girl were like how she was … the attention would make her even more nervous. That would not be a good outcome!

As such, Kaitlyn chose a … hopefully … nicer approach. She offered a kind smile at the young girl and waved at her. “Hi! I hope you find a book that you’ll like.”

Smiling at the other people in the club, she stood there with a grin. She didn't expect so many people to be in the club. She grinned as Emi hugged her excitedly and said her name with enthusiasm . "Thanks for the brilliant set-up for the club Em." Then she saw Kaitlyn holding a book. She was in the club too? Emiline didn't know she was a member of this club, but then again she was a fairly new member and this was her first event as an official member. "Hi Kait. You know me... always great timing!" She tries a joke.. but not quite funny as she wanted it to be.

Emiline, the member rather than the host, listened to the club leader explaining the start of the event. She probably should have checked the event details as this was the first time hearing about the 'planned Writing Revamp'.

She smiled as Simon asked what book she and Kait chose, "I've brung Cruel Prince, all about elves and magic, very similar to Hogwarts in a way, don't ya think?" Then she glanced towards Kait to see what book she had brung, before Kait then moved off to another member of the group.
