Reducio The House of Petrovskikh (Дом Петровских) traces its origins back in the 15th century, making it one of Russia's oldest and most respected noble families. Originally known as blacksmiths, they forged exceptional weapons and armor, made with the purest metals such as goblin-wrought silver. Indeed, an alliance had woven through time with ancient goblin families, who granted them their approval to use and forge this rare metal, under certain clauses and conditions. As the years passed, their mastery of swords evolved, leading them to become one of Russia's fiercest fighting families. Nowadays, the family is divided in two branches: The Petrovskikh, a branch of fighters and wielders, leaders of the family, and The Kovalyov, the keepers of the its blacksmithing traditions. Located in the outskirts of Saint Petersburg, the Petrovskikh estate is a grand mansion, imposing structure inspired by the diverses architectural styles it had witnessed throughout the centuries. Made of stone and dark wood, its facades decorated with tall, narrow windows and ivy-covered walls, the building holds both elegance and mystery. The interior is a careful mix of ancient Russian aristocracy and magical innovations, rooms filled with tapestries, vintage furniture and ancient artifacts. The courtyard circles the estate, its gardens filled with hidden passages and mysterious doors. If admired by most, the Petrovskikh family had sparked various debates over the decades in reason of their open support towards vampire, not only as powerful allies but as a part of their heritage. Finding one or two vampires within each new generation was not uncommon, and their origins were not hidden but proclaimed, defying anyone from taking a stand. The current Patriarch, Pyotr Vladimirovich Petrovsky, is a shrewd and pragmatic leader who ensured the family's survival through the agitation of Russia's revolutions. Sofiya Vasilyevna Petrovskaya, the current Matriarch, will be remembered as the backbone of the family. Skilled enchantress, she developed many of the family's textile innovations, while managing the politics and public relations with finesse. They gave birth to twins, Mstislav Pyotrovich Petrovsky and Ekaterina Pyotrovna Petrovskaya ; Mstislav becoming the new heir of the Petrovskikh family. Mstislav, the new heir of the Petrovskikh family, quickly forged himself a reputation of a cold and ruthless vampire, calculating and manipulating. As a family tradition, his betrothed was chosen at his birth in the person of Aleksandra Ivanovna Sokolova, who bloomed into the very flower of russian aristocratic society. Known for her ethereal beauty, Aleksandra longed for romance as passionate as the tales she read - dreams that were quickly crushed the moment she stepped foot in the same room as her fiancé. Against all odds, Mstislav grew quite fond of her, as she was the very ideal of a wife - quiet, obedient, and good looking. She gave him an heir, Dmitry Mstislavovich Petrovskikh Alekseevich Volkov, as well as a daughter a few years later, Viktoriya Mstislavovna Petrovskaya. Rejected by both sides, Viktoriya grew up surrounded by weapons and silk, always striving to surpass her brother. Golden child, Dmitry had everything. Aleksandra never left his side, and cherished him while Mstislav trained him to become the rightful heir. Constantly fighting to win his their approval, Viktoriya mastered every skill she could, sometimes rising before dawn to train. When she was not more than six, she beat Dmitry in a tournament the Petrovskikh had organised. She would always remember the adrenaline rushing through her veins, blood pumping in her ears, heart beating loudly, as she wiped the blood away from the scratches of her porcelain face, glaring at her brother laid beneath her. Rising her eyes, she met her mother Aleksandra's terrified gaze as she rushed to console her only child. But what she will forever keep engraved in a corner of her mind is the spark of pride she found in Msistlav's eyes. Or was she imagining it ? The power balance shifted when Viktoriya celebrated her ninth birthday. Dmitry's non-existent resemblance to Mstislav, and his absence of any vampire feature had been believed to be a simple affair of recessif genes, although the hypothesis didn't make sense to Viktoriya. The final word of this mystery was revealed at the exact moment she blew her first candle. The heavy doors of the mansion swung open, and a terrified man was thrown at Mstislav's feet. The Patriarch, who had decided to take the matter in his own hands and personally escort the problem, introduced him as Aleksey Volkov, Dmitry's real father. Silence echoed throughout the room, as her father slowly processed the information. After interrogation, he sent someone fetch the author of this abomination. But she was nowhere to be found. It turned out someone had warned the unfaithful wife of the drama about to unfold, pushing her to flee with her son. Aleksandra had enamored herself with a peasant, a farmer who vowed her eternal love. From their union was born Dmitry, a human bastard who claimed rights to a title that wasn't his. The scandalous affair was silenced, and the culprits were declared deceased in a terrible accident. Despite the Patriarch's wish to remain discreet, Mstislav was too enraged not to search for the adulteress and her bastard child. He found them a year later in a shabby cabin with barely enough space to move. Dragon pox had stolen his chance for revenge. Viktoriya was proclaimed heiress of the Petrovskikh House. Still striving to earn her father's attention, she shaped herself in his image - cold, merciless, enraged. Since Aleksandra's treason, Mstislav seemed to have lost the last drop of compassion remaining in his ice-stone heart. As much as she hated him, Viktoriya couldn't deny her attempts to be exactly what her father wished her to be. A weapon. For a rebellion from the Kovalyov family had been brewing over centuries of being overshadowed by the brilliant Petrovskikh branch, a fire that only waited for a spark to ignite. The escape of Aleksandra was the perfect opportunity, and the Kovalyov turned against their kin, marking the begining of a true civil war. Brother against sister, Mstislav against Ekaterina, both of them pushing their pawns forward - Viktoriya and Mikhail, her cousin. A merciless struggle for the throne, for the crown, for the honour. The young girl had finally the opportunity to bloom in this upcoming war, to earn her father's approval. Fireborn. |
