Kim was ready to go for this duel, it was the second stage one and he was determined to win this one. The first match of the season had ended with a victory for the Lions and he was positive they would win the second match too. He even would go so far as to think they would win the third and final match as well. But he couldn't be too positive as of yet because he didn't even know who they would be matching up against and until he knew, an educated guess couldn't be made. But that didn't matter much right now, Kim needed to focus on the current match and ensure that his prediction for victory would pull through for them. For the first time, Kim decided to go with one of the newer spells he'd learned. Cracker Jinx spell.
It had been a favorite of his actually, although being the Flipendo Prince had been a title he'd loved quite a lot in the past. But this one was fun to cast too. Seriously, Kim just liked casting spells in general, trying out a wide variety of them. It was much more fun than quidditch. He shuddered at the mere thought of getting near brooms. What was awesome about this Cracker Jinx though was that it actually went through and hit someone. Not just someone but all three of them! Kim couldn't believe how good his luck was with this particular spell, how great was this? Eve's spell spread hex on Hana and Jack was half successful as she managed to hit Hana but Jack was able to make the spell dissipate for him. Rose was the one who had it the hardest. She ended up hitting herself due to the shield Jack had pulled up on him which dealt a lot of damage to her. Kim felt bad for her, it was never good when your own spell ended up hitting you. Hana and Ara both tried casting spells at their opponents but didn't manage to hit either of them.
Jack's spell was a success but that was probably because he'd just cast a shielding spell on himself. Kim looked over at Eve as she spoke to him and nodded. "You too. Even though you didn't manage to hit both of them, one hit is awesome. It'll help us out a lot." He told her with a smile and glanced over at Rose. "Don't worry too much about this, it's just a minor thing, everyone's had it happen to them before at some point in time. Hell, even I have." Kim told her and nodded towards their opponents. "Let's not let them gloat for too long though. Hit them back and wipe that smile off their faces next time!" He encouraged with a grin.

She barely had a moment to insult the old man (@Hanako Tone) before the duel exploded into motion. Suppose "exploded" was the appropriate word. By the mention of birthday luck by @Jack Burnett, she wondered whose it was. Perhaps another one of their teammates on the other pistes? The crack of @Kim Sato's jinx snapped through the air. Ara flinched slightly as one burst near her shoulder and hissed under her breath while the smoke curled around her limbs. Her gaze slid sideways towards the fossilized failure whose wand didn't even produce anything. When will that thing finally cast a good spell? Granted, her own didn't even hit, but at least something came out of her wand. His wand is probably embarrassed by its owner. A part of her wanted to smack the patheticness out of him. Ugh. Should've already reserved a stretcher to the hospital wing already. Actually, no --scratch that. Ara didn't want to see that sight again of... those two. Traumatizing to say the least, though she can assume that the crust on Merlin's toes was on thin ice with her. "You know that casting is an option, right? Or I suppose you'd rather show off your newly discovered talent." Yeah, she watched the previous duel. The prehistoric nuisance was really good at body blocking. Go twink go. Though, on the contrary, Burnett was actually doing something good. She knew it was a great choice for them to be her favorite (and only) senior. Why did they have to end up with that piece of work? His shield had gone up smoothly, then went on to dissipate a higher-year spell from @Evelynn Decipio and bounce back a Confringo at @Rose Moon. Ara just stared for a moment, then slightly grinned at her upperclassman. She had to admit that was actually impressive-- might be even close to genius. Ara rolled her shoulders slightly, wand spinning once between her fingers as the lingering smoke from the crackers drifted away. Her expression sharpened again, slipping back into its usual brand of venom. Gawd, she missed Mahl. ────────────────────25-26────────────────── |

Pre Round:
@Jack Burnett
Hanako froze, giving Jack a huh look.
Whats he suddenly going on about birthdays? Darn what was the month he had given Jack before this? January? October? Surely … he was looking into it too much. Bridget's letter comes in mind which made Hanako tense. That was the last thing he needed today, really. Mentioning of the non-existence birthday luck, of all things. If such a thing existed, then he would've been lucky enough to be caught sick with a terrible illness to the point where he can't join todays duel. Really, if anything getting Jack to laugh at his stupidity was a gift itself. Not that Hanako wanted to show it. Wrong time to be swooning over someones laugh, Tone.
────────────────────────────────────
@Evelynn Decipio
It was then Evelyn talked about a bet, regarding choosing the losing teams outfit, Hanako gave her an incredulous stare.
────────────────────────────────────
He was gonna say Hey, Lady - I look good in anything and own in. But the birthday blues were kicking in and he just wasn't feeling it. " Why just one? Lets do it for everyone~" . He suggested with the same accent. It would still be a win for him to see Ara in such an outfit, honestly.
@Kim Sato
Hanako was a still taken aback by Kim's response. Had he been too harsh with his joke? Or was this the instance of asking someone how they're doing but not really caring about how they responded. He supposed it was a duel - it wasn't the best place to ask how people are doing.
Post round:
And Hanako was doing absolutely wonderful. He had been flamed- he had been flipped- he had been in a limbo mist, but this was… new. His carefree attitude cracked. A pained hiss escaped him as his shoulders hunched, trying to steady his breathing as he felt his energy draining .. way .. way too much. Hanako prided himself on being resilient on the piste. But with just one spell and he was reduced to .. this? It was too fast, too sudden, unexpected . Not to mention his focus was draining from these blasted crackers jinx.
He could hardly hear the snark his other teammate was giving him. He bit his lips and forced himself to stand still. He was grateful at least that Villa - even with her snark and lines of infuriating insults - wasn't pitying him. People pretending he wasn't in pain. That was always appreciated. " Har har" he replied to the other, his voice strained and forced. " You're right maybe I should've focused more on teaching you how to aim huh? I'll keep that in mind next time"
Some birthday luck this is.

When Evelynn aimed her Deterioration Hex at Jack and Hanako, Jack got worried. Somehow, the spell dissipated before it got to him, but it still managed to reach Hanako. The Welsh Slytherin couldn't imagine that something called the 'Deterioration Hex' felt very good. "Tone!" he called out. "Are you alright?! Hang in there!"
As he was the target of Rose's spell as well, he was glad that his shield charm was able to not only protect him, but to cause the Blasting Curse to ricochet back at its caster. "Nice try," he told her with a smirk. "I don't plan on going down that easy, though." Not when his teammates were counting on him.
Kims's Cracker Jinx hit them all, distracting Jack, but he did his best to still keep his concentration focused as much as he could. Sadly, among his team, his defensive spell seemed to be the only successful one as Hanako's failed and Ara's missed. He couldn't blame them, though; not after they had taken a beating from the Gryffindors.
"Appearances hardly matter in the grand scheme of things," the only muggle-born on the piste. "If I was going to get a date on Valentine's Day, I wouldn't want it to be because of my appearance. So sure, I'll take that wager. And so will Tone, sounds like. Villa?" he asked, looking in Ara's direction. "What do you say?"
Despite his tactic of wanting people to underestimate him, Jack couldn't help but get a little annoyed when the three lions each made comments about their opponents; perhaps because the comments underestimated more than just himself. Evelynn about the Slytherins' vapidity, Rose saying she was wrong about them, and Kim's arrogant, 'even I have' comment when Jack figured he was probably the weakest link on their team. He rolled his eyes.
"Kind of overconfident of you to say you're going to wipe smiles off of others' faces when you're wearing such a big one of your own, Sato," Jack warned Kim as he took on a stance to prepare for the next round.

Day 1 - Morning slot
There was a lot more talking in this duel than Aislin's last stage -- maybe it was a natural result of the older years having more history between them? Or maybe two duels was just too narrow of a frame of reference. They checked in on each other, which was nice, though most of their exchanges were riddled with jabs. Light-hearted ones? She thought so, but regardless, none of their familiarity subtracted from their heavy hits.
Some of them were struggling, a bit or a lot. Hanako and Ara, perhaps still thrown by the crackers, fumbled their spells, weak sparks in place of what they'd wanted. Evelynn fared worse than a disappointing fumble; she went for another Deterioration Hex, complicated and menacing, but stringing two in a row proved too much. The withering force of the spell enveloped her instead of Jack.
Rose made up for a rebounded Confringo with a Cracker Jinx, missing Hanako by a wide margin but catching Jack and Ara on its edges, and Kim attempted to trap Jack in the swirl of a Wind Jinx, only the Slytherin was too fast. Light on his toes, Jack returned the fire with a head-on Blasting Curse, and Aislin's could feel the sound of it rattling her teeth like it rattled Kim. None of the duellists stood untouched, nor were they dangerously unsteady on their feet yet.

Kim couldn't help but feel a little distracted by everything that was going on around him both from his opponents and from his own teammates. Things had begun really well but it was still early in the duel and anything could really happen, depending on who Lady Luck decided to focus upon. Because of this, Hanako's words went unnoticed by Kim at first since the beginning part seemed to have just been mocking words and Kim didn't feel the need to respond to mocks. He didn't tend to get riled up (get mad) that easily, preferring to just ignore such words. Then again, sometimes it was fun to banter back and forth. It was only after some time had passed that Kim realized the later part of Hana's words had actually not been mocking ones. Might as well respond to them now then. Why not? "You haven't been up to any mischief lately, Hana? A shame. You used to have such a knack for it!" Hana's words about having him take pity on them and point his wand in another direction made him smirk. "Now you want pity?" He asked, raising a brow. "I thought you weren't the type to want something like that..."
Kim said with a shake of his head. He ended up sending a Cracker Jinx Hana's way which hit him perfectly. But at least it wasn't too bad for him. Kim still had to work on his spells to get them to hit harder. But hitting felt good, no matter what the strength was, it symbolized success. It was only when Jack spoke of it being someone's birthday and glanced at Hana that Kim blinked. Wait. He glanced back over at Hana again. Unfortunately, due to Kim's state of mind, he ended up missing Jack with his spell but only by a little and Jack's Blasting Curse hit him. "Ow." Kim winced and glanced over at Rose and Eve. Eve seemed to be in even worse straits. Her own spell had backfired on her. At least Rose hit Jack and Ara this time. Even if Kim and Eve hadn't managed to do much this round. Kim filed away Hana's birthday information into the back of his mind for later consideration. Now was not the time to get flustered over this. He could think more about it later. The day wasn't over, it was just beginning with this dueling match. Anything could happen.

The second round of spell slinging seemed to be the opposite of the first, at least for the lions. Instead of Rose being the only lion to not hit her opponents, she was the only one whose spell and aim were true. The exploding wizarding crackers she conjured burst in front of Jack, securing her redemption and even seeming to singe his teammates slightly.
Both of Rose's own teammates were feeling the effects of two nasty spells, one from Jack's wand and one from Evelynn's own wand. Rose winced, knowing they likely were feeling the effects of such powerful curses. Both Hanako and Ara didn't produce any spells at all that round, leaving Rose a little confused. The playing field seemed to be leveled once more, with no clear advantage. All Rose could say for sure was that this couldn't really be the best showing of any of their abilities.
She looked to both of her teammates, trying to assess the level of suffering they were under, but didn't think asking if they were okay would be an entirely useful query. She didn't want to not say anything, either, because both of her teammates had offered sympathy when she had been hit moments before. "Come on," she said, an attempt to encourage them (and herself a little bit too), "We can still do this."

| xx | Blast. As subtle as her wand's spell work tended to be, there existed a delay between her cast and the dreadful realization that it had not at all gone according to plan. It was the heaviness in her hand that struck first, as though it may as well have been a large timber rather than a delicate wand that she held aloft. Her shoulders bowed slightly after that, the outcome of the duel threatening to sink her into the piste. For one as proud and as adept as her, the blunder struck a chord so discordant that she couldn't even accept it initially as reality. Yet as the fatigue spread outward to encompass her entire being, rivaling the worst nights of her insomnia, she was forced to contend with her error. Perhaps there was something to this "birthday luck". The only damage that had been inflicted upon the lions had been by their own hands—and it had been substantial. At the very least, she was glad that her teammates had refrained from making comment. She had wounded herself enough. Any pity or shallow words of encouragement on their parts would only have served to salt it. Fingers tightened, jaw setting. Whatever levity with which shed entered into the match drained with her waning stamina. Perhaps it was her own fault for coming on a little cocksure. Well. They had her attention and focus now. |

While Slytherins were known for being ambitious, nothing seemed to inspire or motivate them quite like spite did. The second they were implied to be inferior was the moment they started scheming to prove their superiority - particularly for this trio of snakes. Which was why it was little surprise to Jack when the tables began to turn.
They weren't quite turned around, exactly, and the Welsh teen knew better than to get complacent, but they were certainly a fair deal more balanced out than seemed possible at the start of the duel which was saying something. Jack was especially pleased with the way that he had managed to not only evade Kim's Wind Jinx, but to pull off his own Blasting Curse in retaliation against the younger student who had seemed so smug to him a few minutes before. Perhaps that would teach him a thing or two about counting his chickens before they hatched. He hadn't even bothered to try responding to Jack's comment from before but chose instead to talk to Hanako; perhaps because his pride was too hurt to do otherwise.
Rolling his eyes, Jack took up his stance again and concentrated as best he could on keeping up with his teammates. They still had a ways to go before they could even come close to victory and it wasn't until the duel was actually over that he would dare consider celebrating.

────────────────────────────────────Pre Round:
@Kim Sato
" Oh please, a stylistic choice~. I haven't lost my touch I just decided I had other things to focused on~ " he tried to say through the blasted cracker jinx. Trying to pretend his head wasnt hurting as much as his energy felt like they were depleting. Used to have the knack for it? Please, he still got it. It was only because of this blasted red head next to him that made it awfully difficult to do much mischief. And the worse part about it was that it was Hanako that wanted to do it. Wanted to do better for this stupid idiot with that dumb look on his face when Hanako got hurt.
" Depends on the mischeif you're looking for" he countered to the gryffindor in the end. He did all sorts of mischeif back in the day didn't he? Mischeif with pretending to be posessed, mischief with stalking someone with a paperbag, mischeif with puckering his lips and kissing people to help someone figure out their crush on them. Tons.
He ignored the part about the pity, feeling like it was likely jest. Though feeling rather pleased that Kim remembered that part of him that didn't like pity. Unlike the red haired dummy next to him.
At Jack's frantic worry - Hanako could hardly surpress a groan. " Immm hanngginggg " he says, as if he had said is a million times before. Like a child annoyed at being nagged. Did Burnett forget Hanako managed to hold himself well last duel even after stepping in front of Jack multiple times? Jesus, stop that already. Hanako feared getting the wrong idea from it, and letting his mind drift to lalaland where he can Jack would happily cuddle after a long hard day of duelling and bantering like a married couple. Thankfully, the cracker jinx helped with preventing him from falling into that.
Post round:
@Jack Burnett
At the familiar fizzle of his wand, Hanako bit his lip and looked away for a moment, a rare display of genuine frustration not wrapped around his usual clownery. Only for a second, though. " Bangarang" he uttered the ridiculous name under his breath. Telepathically sending Jack a dialog
< Are you trying to impress someone from the stands ? You can tell me now, of course. I didn't see you evade that smoothly last time ~>
Well jee - he had to do something to pretend like he didn't think that was hot. Jack was better at evading things than Hanako, but considering their experience on the piste, it always worried Hanako how easy it is for Jack to just k.o in one round.
@Ara Villa
He was using the rest on his energy to look like he wasn't so done with the duel, he rather not use his remaining energy on opening his mouth and responding in his voice. Or so he thought. At first. Because when he saw Ara failing to produce her spell as well, even the detoriating stamina - he still had energy to laugh at her. Yes, laugh. Amused, cheeky - laugh that was as much genuine as a 7 year old wannabe-bully whose insults finally landed.
