Keeping up with a new friend
The eleven year old sat down with her head in her hands, her elbows resting on her knees. Her lips still quivering and hands now slightly shaking, her fingers clenches into her hair as she looked back up with a grave but determined look on her face. As Lennox held out a tissue to her, she gladly took it and turned away from her to blow her nose and wipe away the painful rivers dripping down onto her flustered cheeks. After taking a deep breath she nodded her head and stat to speak even if the tight knot in her throat was making it very hard for her to clearly articulate.
"I apologize for stopping in the middle of my sentence. That was a rude choice from my part and I will not let it reproduce again today. Thank you for the tissue and your words Lennox." She tried to put on a brave face and smile up at her friend but it was easily seen that behind her mask hid sorrow and regret.
"Mariage is most likely complicated. Everyone has fights. My parents used to fight slightly at times but not badly. They would just have disagreements over simple things and work. I'm sure your mother loves your father, as mine did and still does." Lauren could tell Lennox was a bit worried abut her parents so she tried to cheer her up a little. As she was still trying to hide her shaky breaths, she observed as the other first year flipped over her trunk and opened it. To her surprise, Lennox drew out a stack of wizard photos and then set aside her trunk. She took a moment and looked at them carefully before deciding to let Lauren have a look.
Taking the stack of pictures carefully as if her life was in her own hands, She carefully placed
them in her lap and looked at the first picture. It appeared to be a young woman and a young boy from both in their beauxbâtons uniforms Standing for a picture. The woman appeared to have light blond hair onto a high bun and her green eyes complemented her overall appearance. She seemed fond over some gentleman as her eyes almost sparkled when she laughed and met his eyes. The gentleman had light brown hair filled with golden highlights which seemed to be glowing under the sun. His hair combed carefully was topped with a dark blue beret definitely showing they were Beauxbâtons students. Lauren's eyes wondered over every detail of the man's uniform. It was multiple shades of blue indicating he belonged to Ombrelune. From what she had read, Ombrelune was a bit of a mix between Slytherin and Ravenclaw. The students who saw the blue light as they shot the silver arrow were sorted into Ombrelune: a house known for cunning, logic, ambition, and curiosity. His uniform didn't have a single wrinkle on it as the his light blue buttoned down shirt as topped with a darker blue suit vest, On the suit vest were very light noticeable embroidered french lilies were placed were a gold chain held to the side of the suit vest. To finish his top off, a blue ribbon bow tie hung loosely on his neck and flowed with his movements of laughter. The uniform also implied having perfectly pressed grey pants and black dress shoes.
After a long moment of observing the uniform, Lauren moved back up to his face, locking her eyes with his. It was then that she recognized and felt her heart drop at the familiar grey eyes. Oh how she found her father beautiful in this exact picture. It had been so long since she had seen his usually stern and dark eyes feel light and full of joy and happiness. He was glancing over to the other woman almost lovingly, as if they had been soulmates.
Lauren snapped out of her trance and looked at the picture from afar before muttering under her breath, not believing what she saw "They complete each other..." She looked back to Lennox and took a deep breath before announcing "That's my father."

Keeping up with a new friend
"No need to apologize for getting upset, you have the right to." Lennox said with a smile, dismissing the idea that Lauren ever needed to apologize, instead her eyes trained on the other girl's face, trying to read it as she surveyed the photograph. These images had been engrained into the young girl's mind, having looked at them for hours upon hours. Yet, she couldn't take her eyes off of them.
When she had given Lauren the stack of photos, she kept a few for herself from the bottom of the pile, a place she hadn't looked yet, always getting tripped by how happy her mother looked in the first few. "I figured you would say that..." Lennox sighed, not quite sure how to feel as she continued, "My mother has never looked at my father like that. I don't think they even have wedding photos if I'm honest."
She laughed nervously, glancing back down at the photo in her hand. In this one, the pair was on what looked to be a blanket, laid across the grass. Lennox saw the lake in the background but was more captivated by her mother in this than anything else.
The Allegra she knew would never have a single hair out of place, and her clothes were always precise. Her mother's smiles were forced, her eyes stern and... tired. In this, though, her mother's hair had not been put up at all, rather splayed itself across the picnic blanket, her own beret off and held in her hand. She was still in her uniform, the silver moon pinned to her blazer's lapel also indicating Ombrelune. Her blue dress shirt was slightly wrinkled as if she had finished with classes, and then went flying, and hadn't bothered to fix it. Her skirt was tailored and neat, but her black mary-jane shoes were cast aside. Instead of some prim and proper smile, Allegra had playfully stuck her tongue out at the camera, her hand behind a young man's head as if to give the illusion of ears.
She recognized Marc immediately, now having Lauren confirm that it was indeed him, in many of these pictures. He looked much different back then, Lennox thought, though she wasn't exactly sure if that meant much. Her mother was almost unrecognizable. She flipped the picture over, to see her mother's script across the back.
"Pour de bons moments avec mon cher ,Marc," Lennox read aloud, looking up at Lauren as she showed her the photo. "To good times with my dear Marc..." She translated, knowing some French from her mother.

Keeping up with a new friend
As Lennox read out loud what her mother had scripted on the back of the photograph, a feeling of uncertainty filled up inside Lauren.
"Lennox... Um, do you think they were... you know." She asked not wanting to finish the sentence she started. She knew the girl would understand and left her question in the open as she took another look at the album.
Lauren stared at multiple of photographs showing her father and... Allegra. She turned and turned the photographs even more shocked one by one. The two seemed so.. content. So happy, so at ease with each other! their expressions on their faces, those shirts, wrinkled by the day they had gone through, their hair, that once was all nicely put up was messy and added a softer kinder look to them. But even though she was shocked as she looked throughout the album, one photograph in particular had been imprinted into her memory. It was one that even Lennox had not viewed yet as it was on the very bottom of the album. Both girls knew their parents looked obviously as if they were in love but they weren't completely sure until she came upon that last photograph.
Lauren stared at the vivid images her hands slightly shaking from the revelation she w=had been blocking out of her mind for the past hour that they had looked at the photographs. The two were sitting near a lake, Marc's arm was wrapped around Allegra's shoulders and they were giggling. Her father looked at her with so much passion and love that it made Lauren's heart feel heavy aching. Her father leaned in and gave Allegra a quick kiss on the cheek. The woman seemed surprise at his action and turned her face directly to him. She appeared to have wanted to say something back to him, a noticeable blush on her face as she was giggling but her father cut her off...
Lauren set the photograph aside, the images of her father having an intimate moment with another woman besides her mother made her feel sick. But deep inside, she also felt pity for the two... She had never ever seen her father look at someone the way he had looked at Allegra in his 7th year and according to Lennox, that went for her mother to.
She looked at Lennox, hesitating to tell her and give her the photograph. The girl fidgeted with her hands and became restless. She brushed her hair behind her ears several times, cleared her throat as well and bit her lip before finally speaking up.
"They were lovers."

The photographs became more real as she looked at them, and felt so much more... real now that Lauren had clarified that she was noticing the same details she had been seeing.
Lennox's stomach churned, flipping through the much smaller stack she had, taking in every last detail that she could. From the way her mother's eyes lit up to the playfulness of her laugh, to the way her hair was actually quite wavy, which seemed so minuscule but Lennox was not sure she had ever seen her mother's hair truly down. Maybe braided, if she was lucky. Other than that, it had been updos and buns, never loose and flowing. Allegra didn't have such prominent bags under her eyes in these photos, and she didn't seem so pale. Oh, Mum, what happened? The young girl thought miserably of her mother now, a sinking feeling in her stomach as her thoughts ran wild.
There was no answer to what happened, Lennox could understand that. But she had no real gauge as to when her mother stopped being happy. Instead, she had a rather intrusive thought: what if Lennox's arrival was to blame?
The young Knightley knew she was being unrealistic, but her heart began to race nonetheless. She felt tears well up in her eyes, and her lip began to quiver, wondering if that was why it had always seemed her parents didn't like her.
She was pulled out of her thoughts when Lauren spoke again, of their parents being lovers. Lennox looked up, brushing her tears away and tried to seem like she wasn't bothered by much. "It seems like it... What's that photo prove?" Lennox spoke softly, nodding to the picture Lauren held in her hands. As the confirmation set in, Lennox couldn't help but begin to try and wish it away, and spoke again, feigning confidence. "I mean, they were lovers, but that's just the past, right? Obviously, they both married others, so they must have moved on. After all, they haven't seen each other in years before the Alley, so it's got to be fine. Right?" She knew that it was her trying to end the topic that made her try and minimize the situation, but wondered what Lauren would say. After all, Mrs. Wildhawk seemed to be a touchy spot. What could that mean now?

Lauren stayed immobile on her seat still taken back from what her eyes saw. She had showed the photograph to her friend but was stil holding it gently in her hands for a reason she did not know. Part of her wanted to rip, shred and stab the photograph until it was in a million pieces, the particles spreading out in the air. But a strange voice or feeling stopped her from causing any harm to the memory. It seemed too precious and important for someone to just destroy it. Lauren set away the photograph in her lap and turned her head ever so slightly to look at the window, questions flooding her mind.
So they were lovers... These photos are from 7th year right? If that is the case, that was there last year together. What happened for them to fall apart? They looked so peaceful together... Were they meant to be married? Maybe they were betrothed by their families? After all, the Knightleys and Wildhawks are pure-blood, who knew if they were set up by them and that it worked. Maybe there families had a fight? But if they were lovers in 7th year, they couldn't have been an agreement with the Knightleys so Allegra must have had her maiden name. Ok Lauren think. After graduating what would you do. Go to the bank, apply for scholarships, find a job, go back to family.. find a job! What if father had a position in the ministry offered that would make him to England and away from Allegra? no no that wouldn't explain why she had a daughter in England.
Lauren Sighed knowing she was making the story far too complicated. After all, it could have been just that they had an argument and decided to go there separate ways maybe weeks before graduation? They seemed confused in Diagon Alley and did not seem like two long lost lovers who were finally seeing each other again. But Lauren shook her head again at that thought. She begged her mind to believe what Lennox was saying about how they used to be lovers and not anymore obviously. The girl closed her eyes and let her body lay across the seat, trying to rest and get her mind focused on other things. They would almost be at Hogwarts after all and she had to put her robes on.
After few minutes of silence and closing her eye to give her mind a rest, Lauren stood up, brushed her hair out of her face, rubbed her face with both hands, and grabbed the bad her robes were in.
"Lennox, hey I'm going to change into my robe, we're arriving in about 20 minutes or so. I'll be back soon." With that she excited out of the compartment, feeling the rumble of the train moving under her feet. It was quite a strange sensation and she hoped not too fall and make a fool out of herself.
After struggling to put her robe on, she finally made her way back to Lennox, finding the cape she had bit annoying to walk in. As she was about to enter back with her friend, her foot stepped onto her robe, tripping her self onto the ground. It was if the ground had opened its arms in a warm welcome except it was a cold and painful welcome.
The girl groaned and sat up muttering a few whispers under her breath "Bloody... Merlin why does this keep happening to me.."

Lennox was working diligently to push the idea that she had anything to do with her mother's happiness out of her head, when Lauren announced that she would be changing into her robes, as they were due to arrive at Hogwarts soon. "I probably should too, considering everyone will want to change in the last 10 minutes," She said, eager to move away from all that had been discovered in their compartment.
The young Knightley pulled her bag onto her shoulders as she departed in the opposite direction of Lauren, looking for a place to change. Once she found one, she pulled on her robes, struggling a bit to figure them out at first. Who in the hell needs all this fabric? She thought, frustrated with how many layers there were to put on. Once she had been dressed, she looked in the mirror, fixing her hair. It had gotten moved out of place as she had struggled. Now that she deemed herself presentable, the young girl moved back towards her and Lauren's compartment, maintaining her balance quite well given how quickly the train was moving.
As she neared her compartment, she saw Lauren walking towards it as well and then... she saw Lauren on the ground. "Oh dear, are you okay?" Lennox walked towards her friend, sticking a hand out to help her up. It was clear that her cape was a bit too long for her, which was not uncommon for many of these first years. Lennox had gotten lucky and had her mother to teach her to sew, which, despite being considered a Muggle activity, worked to her advantage. She had tailored her own garments to just graze the floor, making it difficult for her to trip over them.
"We still have 15 minutes or so until Hogwarts... If you want, I can tailor the cape for you, make it come up a bit. My mum sent me with a sewing kit," She offered, trying to lend a helping hand wherever she could.

The poor girl on the floor got up without taking Lennox's hand and dusting herself off.
"Thanks for offering your hand but I can get up on my own just fine." She replied trying to give Lennox a smile, not wanting to seem too cold but not in the mood to be all sweet.
It was never her personality to be very sweet and caring but she didnt want to seem rude to Lennox. Even though she tried to hide it, it seemed that the young Knightley had gone through a lot. Lauren was also new to the friendship she had formed and felt like what they had shared with each other was already plenty enough for a few days a least.
Lennox offered her hep with the long cape she had received. After all, it was about the best she would get so why not take the opportunity she thought to herself.
"That's very nice thank you. It would make it a bit easier for me yes." She undid her cape and passed it onto Lennox before turning her attention back to the window and out. It had grown dark as the hours had passed and the long stretched out fields were not barely visible anymore. The young girl closed her eyes once more imagining herself be in her own backyard, surrounded by all of the creatures she knew. A couple of squirrels here, a little fox there, she had learned to recognize the way they moved throughout the leaves and their breaths in the night. Back at home, sometimes her father would let her stay out there with his old cloak on her shoulders as she looked back into the moon, her back onto the cold yet soft ground. She loved having that alone time to herself. Just her in the chilly night, feeling the nice and cold wind, playing with her hair like her mother used to. She already missed those nights and she wasn't even at Hogwarts yet.
The train came to a stop releasing heavy steam from it and burst of cries of joy from every compartment. Lauren snapped from her daydream and rubbed her eyes before standing up to reach for her trunk. She took the cape from Lennox and nodded smiling
"Thank you very much Lennox. I appreciate it " She attached her cape again now not as long as it used to be and grinned from the nice and shorter length it acquired.
"Lets go, onto our new adventure."

As her help had been rejected, Lennox put her hand back into her pocket, at least until they returned to inside their compartment. She felt a little stung by her words but had not been too hurt by it, she knew Lauren wasn't exactly the most warm of people.
"No problem," The young girl replied, digging her sewing kit out of her trunk, quickly getting to work. Since the task at hand was pretty much busy work for Lennox, her mind drifted towards home. Lennox thought of her mother, the one she knew, not from the photos. Her father and her mother had been known to yell, mainly at each other. Occasionally, Lennox could hear her mother crying, or her father breaking glass. She remembered her mother running up the stairs, locking herself in the bathroom, just to get rid of the screaming.
The young girl found solace in her room. She found herself pushing her nightstand in front of the door, to seal it off. It muffled the sound better. Her bookshelves were her salvation, reading herself into different situations. She could be in America or Mexico. She could be an adventurer or a villain. Novels were her escape, and she clung to them.
"Ah!" She spoke out, putting her finger to her mouth. Being enveloped in her own thoughts, she had pricked her finger with her needle. Lennox sighed, and once she got over the shock, finished her seam, and gave the cloak back to Lauren. There she was. Back in reality, on to what she predicted to be her new escape: Hogwarts.
"No problem," She smiled, looking to the window. "On to our new adventure indeed."
