Classtime or Teatime?

Private Roleplay between Anastasia Beckett and @Shen Lee
Location: Hogwarts Classroom
Date: 4 April 2020
Time: 4:00 pm
Anastasia had had a good first week back at school. It had been eventful, involving reuniting with her friends from last year, bullying making the acquaintances of several extraordinarily irritating first years, jumping off the owlery, and assaulting a house elf. In her deference, Ana had been sleeping and the house-elf had smacked her awake, and she'd smacked it back before her eyes had even opened all the way. She was now on her way to have tea with someone. She found that rather amusing, since, while she had teatime daily with her parents, absolutely nobody she knew at Hogwarts did tea time, not even the most obnoxious, snotty pureblood.
She'd received the owl and hadn't been able to place the name. She knew that she had heard it somewhere before, but she couldn't remember exactly where and it was bothering her now. As she walked, it struck her. He was that boy who had blown up that tea party a year ago. She'd been home for Easter and had been dragged to that party. She'd expected it to be quite boring, and for the most part, it had been, but towards the end, all the china had shattered. Her mother had told her later that it was the 10-year-old Shen's first sign of magic.
To be perfectly honest, Ana couldn't imagine being 10 for her first sign of magic. That was practically the age that Hogwarts started. She'd been a toddler, maybe 2 or 3 when she'd first shown magic, and it had been one aspect of her childhood where she'd lived up to her parents' expectations. While her parents' friends were nervously waiting for their child's magic to manifest, or more accurately, confirmation that the child wasn't a Squib, Ana's had known. It was probably the only thing they're ever been actually proud of her for and it wasn't even something she had done on purpose. Given how her parents had held her to impossible standards anyway, she would have probably wanted to die if she had gone all that time with the possibility of being a squib hanging over her head.
The Gryffindor arrived at the designated classroom. She couldn't picture Shen's face, but she hoped she'd recognize him when he arrived. Not that it would matter if she couldn't, seeing as she doubted anyone else would be trying to have tea in an abandoned classroom right now.
She was now mildly glad that her parents had insisted on sending her with several tea dresses, despite her protests. Sure, she could have worn her uniform or one of her other causal outfits, but Ana refused. Maybe life was stressful and maybe she hated her parents at the moment, but that didn't mean she had lost her sense of fashion. The pale pink floral dress she wore was proof of that. Now, if she could just find the person who had invited her here...

Classtime or Teatime?
Shen had stared at the mirror quite a while now, with that song from that muggle movie stuck in his head When will my reflection show who I am inside. He had been trying on outfits for a while now with one of the dorm room's house elves, Jean George. At first he had thought something more formal would have been better, trying on the soft cream coloured Italian cut suit his parents had gotten tailored for him, but he had ended up deciding that it was too precocious, even for him. In the end he had settled on the pair of navy colored suede Magnanni loafers he'd insisted on bringing to campus, obviously wearing them without socks, a pair of light grey khakis that almost looked light blue, a nice brown leather belt, a white Brooks Brother's T-shirt that perfectly hugged his young but toned body, and a nice sea blue Alfani sweater tied around his shoulders and knotted right below his neck line. To finish off the look, he had to of course wear the pair of Carerra sunglasses, and with his hair slightly slicked backed and swept to the side, he cut the perfect look of a British preppy teen. Thanking Jean George heartily for his work rearranging his wardrobe, Shen left the Slytherin dorm room and headed towards the classroom he had asked the young Ms. Beckett to meet him, drawing many a glance as he left the common room and through the hallways.
He reflected. It was not his choice to have reached out to Anastasia, but his parents. He had to begrudgingly agree that this was definitely for the best, after all both parties involved were pureblood families of Britain, and he did need to make connections on campus. He knew, of course, that the young lady he was to meet today was definitely one of the potential partners his parents were considering for him in the future. They had brought up the subject with him as soon as he received the Hogwarts acceptance letter. Pureblood families existed all over Great Britain, and there would have been no conceivable way for him to meet all of his possible arranged brides, except at Hogwarts. As such, he had written and sent a letter to the young Miss Beckett asking to meet him for tea at her earliest convenience, to at least discuss their parents plans for the two of them so that there would be no misconceptions. She had written back, of course, and agreed, and so he had haggled with the house elves of the kitchens until they agreed to help him expand his daily tea time pastries and sandwiches to be made for two and to have it served in a classroom overlooking the grounds and great lake, rather than a private corner in the Slytherin common room as he had daily.
He barely even knew of her. To be completely honest he knew her father and mother better than he knew her. He had been taught pureblood etiquette and history, so of course the current heads of houses were known to him, but the young woman perplexed him. All he had seen of her was at the tea party where he had first used magic, and in the picture of her that his parents had sent him when urging him to set up a meeting with her. Was he ashamed that he had shown his magic at such a late age? Definitely not, he was a child of sophistication and grace, he never had reason to have his emotions flare up or for him to become disgruntled. He had been brought up as the apple of his parents' eyes and constantly cared for by his personal house elf Jacques, oh how he regretted not being able to bring Jacques with him to Hogwarts, but no they had said, students should be on equal terms when they enter the school. Shen sighed. It was time to meet a new friend or foe.
As he rounded the corner to the classroom, he saw a young lady just about to enter the classroom, and recognizing her from the picture, he lightly smiled, bowing slightly, and said gracefully, "The young miss Beckett I presume?" Opening the door for her and holding it he continued in the same fluid motion, "It is wonderful to finally personally meet you. I am Shen Lee of the Pure House of Lee. Please, we have much to talk about." His eyes twinkled as he silently shut the door behind them.

Classtime or Teatime?
She saw the boy arrive. He wasn't horrid looking, so this wouldn't be a complete waste of her valuable time. She had an inkling as to what this meeting was about, but she was dearly hoping she was wrong. She rarely was though. Looking at his sunglasses and sweater, she noted that this was promising. He wasn't one of those wizards who was all old fashioned and refused to dress as though it was in fact, not the 1800's. She still thought he looked a bit too preppy for her tastes, but that was rather hypocritical, seeing as her own style was usually on the preppy side.
Still, she smiled winningly at him when he asked if she was Miss Beckett. Inwardly, she rolled her eyes a bit. However, she managed to prevent any trace of that from reaching her face. The life of snotty parties full of purebloods meant that she was decent at concealing her emotions when she needed to. Honestly, was he setting up other meetings with girls? That would make it weirder than it already was. "It's a pleasure to officially meet you, Shen, and please, call me Anastasia," she said, sweetly. Nobody other than purebloods and teachers when they were angry at her actually called her that. However, she assumed someone who introduced themselves by mentioning their "pure house" wouldn't exactly someone who would be interested in calling her by her nickname. Anyway, this was putting up some barriers between her Hogwarts normalness and whatever weirdness was happening right now.
She found it rather surreal to be back in a tea dress and behaving all pureblood and proper after the week she had had. It had started with her chasing a griffin cookie jar thing and managing to nearly burn down Hogwarts, and ended with her jumping off of the owlery. She hadn't been jumping exactly, it had been more of parachuting. Sure, that was what she would call that. Still, she was definitely going to avoid mentioning either of those. She didn't know if her parents knew about either of those incidents and if they hadn't heard about it already, she wasn't going to risk them finding out from the likes of Shen.
As he shut the door, she felt more trapped than ever. This was absolutely not something she wanted to be doing right now. Quite frankly, she would rather be setting another first year on fire (which was also an accident) or jumping from another high building. Still, she had to at least hear him out, and she was very good at pretending to be interested in things that she really wasn't.
She personally disagreed with the boy's statement. She honestly thought this could be the shortest conversation ever.
'Do you want to marry me?' 'Nope? Cool, me neither.'
That would have made it a lot simpler. Again, stupid pureblood etiquette. "Yes, I'm sure we do," she said in reply, smiling again. She was rather surprised to see the lovely tea that was set out for them. Well, she certainly would never turn down good food, so she would stay here for a while at least. If this got uncomfortable, she could always set him on fire. Alright, no, she couldn't do that, but it was nice to think she could. Anyway, it wasn't like this was Shen's choice. She was sure this was mostly his parents. She hoped it was because if it wasn't, that would make this even weirder. Like who would try to set up an arranged marriage of their own accord?
"So, how have you been liking Hogwarts?" she asked conversationally. In true Pureblood form, she knew that they would probably spend the next several minutes making meaningless small talk before actually getting to the point. What a waste of time Ana thought it was. Honestly, one would think with how important Purebloods considered themselves they would value their time more. She really could care less than how some first year she'd met once before today was settling in at Hogwarts.
As she sat across from the boy, she wondered why tea was the go-to drink. She vastly preferred coffee. And seeing as England had colonized everything, she knew that they had to have colonized somewhere that drank coffee instead of tea. Who on earth wanted to drink weird leaf water when you could have coffee? It occurred to her that coffee was really just bean water if she was going to think like that, but this was so not the point. Focusing back into the present, she tried to listen to whatever it was he wanted to say.
Then, she changed her mind. This was all insane and she wasn't going to entertain it. "Actually, you know what? I'm sure that you are a perfectly lovely person, but I don't think that this conversation will be fruitful for either of us, so you'd best excuse me," she said, standing and smiling. "Good day!" She turned and exited. That was insane, and she was not about to pretend that it wasn't.
