Diary entry #1: The Quiet Corner
The common room was loud today, and I noticed a first-year girl from the Muggle suburbs sitting by the window with that specific, glazed look of someone who is about to burst into tears but doesn't want to be seen. Of course, I didn't go over and ask, "what's wrong". That just puts them on the spot. Instead, I sat nearby and started doing some homework.
It took twenty minutes, but she eventually asked what I was doing. We talked about the smell of rain on asphalt and the specific brand of biscuits her mum used to buy. I gave her a small piece of chocolate I got from back home. By the time she went to bed, her shoulders had dropped three inches.
Diary entry #2: Anonymous kindness
I noticed a second year from my house whose winter cloak is fraying at the hem. She's been trying to hide the rip for weeks because she's embarrassed she can't cast Reparo clean enough to fix it. I used a silver needle and a spool of sturdy Muggle thread. I applied a whipstitch, reinforcing the hem from the inside where the fabric was weakest.
I also moved to the desk where the Ravenclaw student had been struggling with a blotchy quill. I replaced her cracked ink-pot stopper with a hand-shaved piece of cork I'd been smoothing down all afternoon. No notes, no signatures. Just a cloak that won't trip the second year tomorrow and an ink bottle that won't ruin the Ravenclaw's essays.

As exams approach, the tension between the stacks becomes thick enough to disrupt even the simplest concentration. I found a second-year Gryffindor tucked away in the back of a section, surrounded by a fortress of crumbling parchment and three different ink bottles. I offered my help to sort this mess out and by the time the librarian did their final rounds, his area is organized.
