A sense of trust

Wesley had just arrived to the library after visiting the Ravenclaw Common Room, a place which he visited to rest. But it was too noisy over there, and something just prevented himself from sitting down for even a second. After a while he just decided to go visit the library, and go read. Maybe his enjoyment of reading books combined with the silence of the library and the feeling of trust it gave would help him relax. He believed the reason why he liked to visit the library at Hogwarts was because his parents didn’t really like it when he was reading. They saw it as a waste of time, something which I still don’t understand.

He walked past all the giant book shelves, looking for an empty table in the back of the library. He has visited the library multiple times now, but still couldn’t stop admiring all the shelves filled with books. But he still there weren’t a lot of other people around. A few other Ravenclaws, who appeared to be studying and making their homework. And a few and two Hufflepuff students, who were just whispering to each other. When he finally reached a nice, empty table he sat down. Thinking about the time he already spend at Hogwarts...

He quickly realized his thoughts were drifting off, he decided to just grab a book and start to read.

Ginevra moved along the book shelves. Even though she was just a first year student, she had visited the Hogwarts library several times before: it was one of her favourite places, just like the other school libraries she had visited when she was enrolled in Muggle's elementary schools. And because she had visited the magical creatures that afternoon, and she had no homework due soon, she decided to go to the library and enjoy some nice books.

Walking down the aisles of enormous book shelves, the Hufflepuff had quite a hard time deciding what to read first. Well, the girl told herself, but only inside her head so that no one else would hear it, I can definitely read about the beasts again, but really, they are much more exciting to be met directly rather than read in books. Or perhaps I can read about music... but it's also better to hear and enjoy.

Or perhaps...

Ginevra moved to her very favourite shelves, the ones for fiction, and decided to read some Muggle fiction works. Her brown eyes caught a series composed of fifteen books altogether, and she decided to simply check out all of them - just in case someone else would borrow any of them by the time I want to read it...

After that, she decided to read at her favourite table, the one at the back of the library (usually it was quieter and less crowded there!), but was disappointed to find that it was occupied by a Ravenclaw boy. Oh well, perhaps tomorrow then. The blonde shrugged and turned around to find another table, but somehow she awkwardly dropped a couple of books from her hands. The books fell not far from the Ravenclaw's feet with loud noises.

"Oh I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" Ginevra quickly apologises - to both the boy and anyone else who might feel annoyed - and collected the books she had dropped.

Cress was back in the library. She had been spending a lot of time here lately after visiting for the first time a few days ago. For some reason, she just really liked it here. Maybe it was the sense of peace she had coming into such a quiet and calming environment that lowered her anxiety or maybe it was the immense amount of books and the thrill she got noticing just how many were right at her fingertips.

Only a few months before, she had barely known anything about the wizarding world and now she was at a magical school for the whole year, no muggle books in sight.

She began scanning the shelves like she always did, looking for something good to spend her afternoon reading. Boom! Cress spun around. A girl standing right near her had dropped her stack of books right next to this boy. Hurrying over, Cress started grabbing up the books and putting them on the table for her.

"Is this series any good?" she asked the flustered girl, "I'm just looking for some fun reading," she offered a smile. Turning to the boy, she asked, "I hope we're not disturbing you if you're studying or something."

Wesley was still sitting at the same table in the back of the library. He was currently reading a book about magical creatures, even while he already knew most of the creatures listed in the book. He should probably go read something else, he thought by himself. Since even he started to think reading that book again would be a waste of time. Maybe he should read some new books about spells, or fiction. Both two topics he enjoyed reading about quite a bit when he was bored, or didn’t have anything important to do.

While he was thinking about what he was going to do when he was done reading his current book he suddenly heard a noise, sounding like someone dropped something. It was quiet in the library, so the sound startled him a bit. He quickly looked, and saw two girls picking up a few books from the ground. Which was presumably what caused the sudden noise which made him look up while reading. He heard the two girls apologizing, and asking if they disturbed him. “Oh, no. It’s fine, I’m just reading. Need any help picking those up?” He replied, while looking at the many books which were still laying on the floor.

"Oh, thank you," said Ginevra, taking the books Cress tried to put on the boy's table. (Well, it was his space anyway!) "Thank you. And, uh, I have never read this series before actually. I was just going to give it a try since it looks fun. Let's just say that I planned to check them all out because I don't want to risk anyone else borrowing any of the books before I finish reading them. I don't really want to wait."

She flushed again, feeling that she had talked too much in such a short time. And in a library, too!

And then the Ravenclaw she saw earlier offered his help picking up the books which were still scattered on the floor. "It - it's totally all right," Ginevra answered, blushing. "I mean, I'm afraid it would be too much trouble for you, um..."

Pause.

"I'm sorry, I don't think I remember your name." (Well of course I don't! We haven't been introduced before! But how should I say it anyway?)

The blonde turned to Cress, her fellow Hufflepuff. She knew Cress for the two were in the same year and same house, but not that well. She did not even know the girl's nickname! So she introduced her to the boy using her formal name. "Me, I'm Ginevra - but please just call me Ginny. And this is Crescent. We're both first-year Hufflepuffs."

Cress smiled at the boy as he helped them pick up the books and lay them on the table. The girl who she had definitely noticed before, but totally didn't know her name, picked up the books from the table and stood there holding them. "I totally get it. It's one of my biggest pet peeves when the library doesn't have one of the books in the series. Then I wonder if I should skip it and move onto the next book, but I wouldn't understand it at all, or if I should run the risk of forgetting about the series and picking up another book instead," she took a breath after rambling on.

The girl looked at her and then back at the boy and introduced both of them. Cress groaned inside. 'She knew my name but I totally didn't know hers until she introduced herself', she thought. "Actually, my nickname is Cress. You can call me either Crescent or Cress, but most people just say Cress. My last name is Moon, because I guess my parents thought it'd be quite the joke to have a Crescent Moon in the house," she laughed trying to ease any tension this joke had caused.

She used it quite a bit, but like with anything people have that others don't consider "normal," the atmosphere is always tense afterward as people try to figure out whether they should laugh at it or not. Cress sighed.

OOC: Sorry for the late reply, I have been quite busy the past days.

While he was picking up the last books on the ground he heard the two girls introduce themselves, apparently the person who dropped the books was named Ginevra. And the other Hufflepuff girl was named Crescent. “Nice to meet you! My name is Wesley, Wesley Allen”. He said after the few seconds of silence, which fell after Crescent told them her nickname. Ginevra and Crescent both seemed a bit nervous, but if people seemed nervous in his eyes it didn’t mean much he thought. Almost everyone seemed nervous to him, probably because he was quite nervous himself. Something which other people seemed to notice a lot.

“So…” he said, after the library fell silent again “Do you like Hogwarts so far?”, he asked to try and ease the tension. He realized that probably wasn’t a great question to ask in a library, to two people he just met. He wasn’t an expert at talking to other people, which made sense. If you spend most of your time in the library, he thought by himself.

He realized they were probably in the back of the library to sit down. “Feel free to sit at this table if you want to”, just in case they wanted to sit down.

OOC: It's all right

"I'm so happy to meet you, Wesley," said Ginevra, offering a polite smile. "And Cress, beg pardon that I did not even know that you prefer to be called Cress. I mean, for goodness sake, we're classmates!"

Wesley offered the Hufflepuffs a seat, and Ginevra gladly accepted it. (In this case, it would be impolite to refuse, wouldn't it?) The Ravenclaw also asked them how they enjoyed Hogwarts so far, and since Cress did not answer the question immediately, Ginny took it as a cue that the bespectacled girl invited her to give the response first.

Glancing around to make sure nobody was getting annoyed at them whispering at each other in a library, Ginny returned her gaze to both Cress and Wesley. "Um..." she started, "I do miss my family sometimes, particularly that I'm still not used to live in a dorm, but I do enjoy studying here. Many fellow students are very nice and the professors are helpful as well. But honestly, I'm more into casting spells rather than memorising the theories and doing written homework! And I can't wait to get to third grade so I can take COMC class - I just love the beasts!"

The blonde took a breath as she finished talking. Well, it was rather tiring to whisper - rather than talk - all those sentences!

"What about you guys?"

They both seemed rather nice to Cress and when the question was posed to her, she didn't waste much time responding. "I actually like it here a lot more than I thought I would. I mean, when I got the letter I was beyond excited but also a bit weirded out because all of my usual plans were kind of ruined. I never thought I'd be going to a magical school. I was planning on going to middle school with one of my cousins, then going through high school, then college. I was totally ready for those things. When I got my letter, it was pretty much foreign to me. Besides my uncle, none of my family was magical and only a few of us had a brief idea of what Hogwarts was," she realized she had been talking quite a bit and looked at the others for some sort of cue to stop but they both seemed to be listening intently. She really liked these two, they were sweet.

"Anyway, I was a bit homesick too at the beginning but then I started meeting people and genuinely feel at home now. My classes are a lot of work, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't like them," she laughed.

"By the way, I know we just started, but what are you guys planning on doing when we all graduate? I mean, I don't know that much about the wizarding world, but maybe you guys do?" Cress paused and looked at them both.
