Great Hall
After crossing the Lake or arriving in thestral-drawn carriages, the new or returning students of Hogwarts would experience their first look and impression of the magical school by entering through the Entrance Hall and then, with great strength or the assistance of another, parting the great carved mahogany double doors and taking in the sight of the most radiant public gathering place of the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. That awesome first sight would be in the form of the one and only Great Hall.
To call the location itself the ‘Great Hall’ is an understatement to its architecture and lovingly crafted and eloquently designed interior. The ceiling itself is enough for it to garner its name: arches climb on each side of the hall like enormous ribs, and so high is the roof above the ground, it appears as if the height is endless. For the most part, the ceiling appears to be translucent, as if viewing the direct outside, in whatever condition or weather it is in, but it is possible to magically alter or tamper with the interior, resulting in harmless rain, fog, snow, or any other measure of weather in one’s imagination. Four long-tables, set parallel to the entrance, flaunt colors of the four houses which Hogwarts is renowned for; Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. On either side of the room are two fireplaces, crackling with a warm glow, and located on both extremes of the hall. At the furthest of the hall is located the High Table, a simple, yet raised table crowned on either end with golden statuettes of owls where the Professors, Heads of Houses, and the Headmaster take their place for the schoolwide feasts.
As much of the school flaunts on its walls, animated portraits are littered all along the walls, mostly made up of certain figures who either enjoy eating themselves or enjoying making small talk with students. Along with the portraits, the patron ghosts of the houses are also known to frequent the tables, each with their own reason.
For the most part, however, students can eat in peace, and the food provided is everything that one could desire, from home comforts all the way to flamboyant delicacies, provided either by magical means or prepared by the House Elves located in the Kitchens.
