Abandoned Toilets
The Abandoned Toilets are… well, abandoned for a reason. Dirty, decrepit, and downright disgusting, it’s a wonder that no one’s wiped this abomination off the map, already. Any and every sense of cleanliness from its days as a usable lavatory is completely gone now, and should be rightfully treated as a public menace. However, considering that you can still find it on the second floor of Hogwarts, it does seem to serve some purpose for students who happen to need such a location.
Queen of the lavatory is none other than Moaning Myrtle herself, although she is scarcely seen these days. Compared to the other lavatories, there are few candles to illuminate the lavatory, casting strange shadows across the floor and walls, and enhancing the already creepy feel of the whole place. The wooden cubicles seem ready to fall apart at someone’s slightest sneeze, and very few of the sinks actually work. The cold stone floor is well worn and cracking, and the windows seem particularly prone to letting the occasional cold draft blow through the lavatory. Overall, it is generally advised to seek out another lavatory to cry in.
However, as the legend goes, one of the sinks will open and reveal an entrance to the Chamber of Secrets, although only Parselmouths are able to open the gateway. Non-Parselmouths who try to open the Chamber will merely be met with indifferent plumbing and a confused reflection in the cracked mirrors. Additionally, it would be amiss if the issue of illicit activities occurring in the Abandoned Toilets wasn’t addressed. Many a student uses the Abandoned Toilets to peddle their wares behind the professors’ backs, although many, if not all, are unsuccessful in avoiding detection. Should you choose to venture into the Abandoned Toilets, proceed with extreme caution… and please, wash your hands after.
