A Magic History beginning

Carina liked History of Magic almost as much as she loved Transfiguration. She really did. But having the class at first hour Monday morning was tedious whenever she had passed a rough weekend of obsessively studying. With thi, it can be said that it is not a big wonder that she sat in the third row of the lesson instead of the usual first, an attempt to disguise her tiredness and embarrassment of being so.

In fact, she was so tired, she wasn’t even thinking. Barely understanding the professor too. So it surprised no one when she does not notice a student sitting beside her that was not from her same house. In fact, she had assumed it was a Slytherin, as other houses usually avoided Slytherin students, thing she quickly learned during her first month. Not like she planned to talk in class either.

Carina rests her chin on her hand as she listens to the lecture, eyes starting to close when she feels a mild nudge. She goes awake, thinking it was her own dream shaking out of it because of her love for the subject. Then another nudge. She straightens her posture, clearing her throat as she tries to write something in her notebook, but unable to even connect the dots about whatever the teacher is talking about.

Skylar rushes into class, barely making it through the door before the class starts. She was so engrossed in her book at the that she had forgotten the time. She also slept in a little longer than she should. And she spent a long time eating breakfast. Okay, so maybe there were quite a few things that made Skylar late, and maybe they were all because of her own incompetence, but she shall ignore it for now.

Skylar breathes a sigh of relief when she realizes that she wasn't late, only to be faced with a new problem... there was barely any seats left in the class. Skylar's eyes drift across the classroom and finally finds an empty seat. She quickly slides into into the seat just as the Professor signals the start of class. She turns her head and notices that she was sitting next to a Slytherin.

Skylar internally cringes at the thought of being seated next to a Slytherin, given that the last time she did... well, let's just say they did not get along to well. However, this Slytherin girl doesn't seem to pay any attention to Skylar. In fact, she doesn't seem to be paying attention to anything.

Skylar turns her head back towards the front and pulls out her things. She fights to not yawn as the Professor goes on and on about some ancient history. Though it is arguably interesting, history isn't really Skylar's expertise. Soon, her attention span finally gives out and Skylar begins looking at anywhere but the board.

Suddenly, the Professor begins calling on people to answer questions. Skylar panics. She has not been listening to any of the lesson. She turns to ask the Slytherin girl next to her if she knows anything, only to find the student dead asleep.

Oh no.

She nudges the girl next to her in an attempt to wake her up. Skylar glances around the room nervously as the Professor slowly approaches their side of the room. Finally, the girl wakes and immediately tries to write something down in her notebook. Skylar doesn't know what she was trying to write down but it certainly wasn't going to help save them now.

"Psst, hey, not to alarm you, but the Professor is about to ask us a question real soon and neither of us know the answer."

A Magic History beginning
”… What?”

Carina looks at the girl sitting beside her, and slightly winced at the sight of her blue hair.

Woah, too bright for this hour.

She blinks harshly before looking at her, her gaze then shifting from the professor to the girl sitting beside her a couple of times. Carina does not seem too worried. In fact, doesn’t even seem bothered by being asked a question.

“Well, what has been the class about?”

She whispers in an unbothered tone to the bright blue haired girl beside her. Carina is not at all worried by not knowing what even the class is about.

She thens look at her open edition of A History of Magic, as it was open to the pages the professor had annotated in the white board in front.

Rubs one eye, then yawns.

Before the girl sitting beside her got a chance to answer her question, the professor arrived to our desk and asked us a question.

She answers it correctly with a deadpan voice.

Please, don’t let it be notice how tired I am. Please, please, pleaseeee.

The professor then continues with the lesson, and Carina sighs in relief as she rests back her chin in her hand, about to doze off again.

Skylar lets out a sigh of relief when the girl next to her answers correctly. She wonders how she knew the answer until she turns her head. Oh. It was right there on the board. Skylar's face flares with embarrassment on how she overreacted to something so simple. At least she woke the girl up, so her action wasn't completely useless. Speaking of which, Skylar turns her head to speak to the girl, only to find her dead asleep again.

Geez, Skylar thought to herself. She must be really tired. What time did she sleep last night? Did she even sleep? Skylar decides to let the girl have her peace and focuses on the lesson. She tries her best to direct the professor's attention to anywhere but the sleeping student. She wonders how she could help the girl, if she needed any. She decides to help take some helpful notes that the professor didn't write in the packet.

As the class nears its end, Skylar glances over at the girl again. She was still asleep. So, Skylar pulls out a piece of letter paper and writes down a note that she slips into the girl's bag. Along with the note were some sweet treats and the class notes she took that might be helpful.

Hello! I can't help but notice how tired you were in class. I decided to let you sleep and tried not to disturb you the best I could. Don't worry, I was able to divert the professor's attention from you so he shouldn't have noticed you. I took some notes that he didn't have in the packet for you. Also, here's some pastries and sweets. Hopefully the sugar will help keep you awake for the rest of the day. It usually works for me, at least. I don't know what your name is, but hopefully you'll be awake enough next time to tell me.

- From, Skylar (the girl next to you with bright blue hair)

With that, Skylar quickly packs her things to go to her next class. She nudges the girl awake as class ends, making sure the student was at least opening her eyes before she leaves. Skylar rushes out of class and heads towards her next one. She wishes the girl would get the rest she needs.
