Skylar walks across the stone brick path in the courtyard. She had just come from Transfiguration class and was already hungry for lunch. Magic always takes a lot of energy out of her and she needs food now. As she weaves through the crowds of people clustered throughout the courtyard, she catches a flash of blond hair to her right. Skylar immediately turns and sees Olivia Evans, a first-year Ravenclaw who was in Transfiguration with her.
Olivia was basically hiding behind one of the pillars in the open hallway, which Skylar would have missed if she were a less observant person. Skylar has been looking for a study buddy that can help with her classes since forever. Despite being eager to learn, being privately homeschooled by a tutor did not exactly prepare Skylar for Hogwarts's rigid schedule. However, she knows that Olivia is talented at Transfiguration, especially with how she was able to cast that new spell today perfectly! If their professor had to have a favorite, it would definitely be her. Unfortunately, Olivia seems more of the shy type. Skylar ponders on how to approach her when she accidentally makes eye contact with her. They awkwardly stare at each other for a moment, both sides unsure of what to do.
Screw it. Skylar thought to herself as she tries to put on the kindest smile she can, though she is pretty sure it looks like a pained wince. She approaches Olivia, who looks like she was ready to bolt any minute now, which Skylar really could not blame her for.
“Hi, I’m Skylar. You’re Olivia, right? I wasn’t staring at you weirdly I swear! I was just wondering if you would like to be my study buddy.” Skylar gave Olivia another smile, hoping she didn’t look like she swallowed a frog.

However, now that they were finally free Olivia was following the pack of students out of the room and decided to put herself behind one of the pillars leading out into the courtyard. There she would wait until most of the other students had left so she could go find her sanctuary for the next hour. A gentle smile was resting upon Olivia's face; she had aced todays lesson. While it normally takes her a few attempts to get the spells right, today she had gotten it on the first go. She was proud of this, though it could also just have been a fluke. No, it was important she kept practicing and studying.
Olivia peers around the pillar to check on the progress of the students leaving, and as she does her eyes meets another pair of eyeballs in passing, before her gaze snaps back to the other girl. Why is that girl staring at her? Olivia frowns ever so slightly, but then the other girl starts approaching her. What was her name again? Why can she not remember the girls name? As the girl gets ever so closer to Olivia, Oli's gaze starts wandering the courtyard as she plans her escape. Maybe she pretends to have forgotten something in the classroom? She would simply just have to turn around and go back inside.. Too late, the girl had reached her. Olivia inhales deeply as she locks eyes with the girl once more.
"Yes, I am." Skylar! That was her name! Study buddy? Olivia already has a study buddy in her roommate Diana. They can safely study in their dorms. "I don't need a study buddy. Why would I need a study buddy?" She narrows her gaze a little as she looks upon Skylar, trying to discern if it was a genuine question or not.

Skylar cringes a bit at her response. That was not a good first reaction.
"Um... Well, I didn't say you needed a study buddy. I was asking because I was hoping you could help me." Skylar lets out an awkward chuckle as she looks around. Suddenly she feels out of place.
"I apologize for the weird first meeting. You were just really good at Transfiguration and I was wondering if you could help me a bit. I was homeschooled so I'm still getting used to all these deadlines and schedules. I promise I'm not stupid or anything! I pick up things quick once I get a hang of it."
Skylar tries to offer Olivia a small smile, suddenly feeling really uncomfortable. She is usually good at making friends, with her outgoing personality and all. However, perhaps all her... energy might not be the best way to go for this encounter. If this was how most Ravenclaws are, then it was probably a good thing she wasn't put with them. The uncomfortable silence in the dorm would probably make Skylar regret everything.
She glances at Olivia again, hoping her enthusiasm hadn't put off the Ravenclaw too much.

Perhaps helping this girl would pay off later. Maybe she knows things that Olivia does not, and she could repay the favor later. "Do you have any subjects you are very good at?" Oli asks, her inquisitive gaze locking upon the girl. "And if you do not, how are you intending to make it worth my while? I have a lot of subjects I must study and learn while staying on top of my own homework and having spare time to do other things I like."
Olivia looks around the courtyard; most of the students had left at this point so perhaps if this was not worth her time, Olivia could just walk away and enjoy her moment of reading before the next class. But that would be rude to do, and while Olivia often does things due to her shyness and fears, she does her best to not be directly rude to people.

Skylar raises her eyebrows. Oh, Olivia was one of those very materialistic people. But if one thing Skylar was good at, it is adapting. Though her friendliness may make her more approachable in most cases, she is going to have to switch tactics if she wants to convince Olivia.
"Well, I am quite good every other subject, except for Transfiguration. I got an A on one assignment, but that's it. All my other grades are Os. I am pretty good at charms and DADA, and I already finished all the lessons for potions and flying. I'm also doing pretty well in History of Magic, Herbology, and Astronomy." Skylar lists as she analyzes Olivia's reaction.
"I will not take too much time out of your day, as I merely wish to be study buddies and perhaps even work on projects together. I truly believe we can have productive study sessions together if you would like. However, if my presence does not interest you in any way, I suppose I shall take my leave. I try hard to befriend everyone, but I also understand that some people are not comfortable with social interactions. If you do not wish to return my enthusiasm and friendship, then I shall not offer it." Skylar states. She does wish to befriend Olivia, but it is starting to become difficult. She hopes the logical stance she has taken can convince Olivia, but if not, she is going to have to just leave. Olivia, on the other, looks like she is already calculating an escape route. Skylar internally sighs to herself. Let's see how this goes.
