2025/26 Stage 2 Slytherin vs. Ravenclaw: Match 4

Maybe this time things would be better.

Their last duel had ended the same as every other duel they had had so far, in defeat. Mylo wasn't really one to care about these types of things but after a few times, and with the way their mind wasn't doing them any favours at the moment, they did start to wonder if they would start to improve at all. If all the practice they continued to do was having any kind of effect.

This wasn't the time to start doubting their abilities though, as that would only make things worse. So after pushing away anything that wasn't pure focus on the duel ahead Mylo made their way onto the piste, knowing that whatever happened they would walk away (maybe from the infirmary) with knowledge they didn't have before the duel. It would all work out in some way, the only question was how.

After Axyen had introduced both of the teams Mylo raised their wand, focusing on the other people on the piste and letting the rest of the world drown out.

Who are these disgusting humans? Atlas thought to himself and shrugged. He has been in a very foul mood lately... With valentine already gone, he was grateful that it passed. He hated the event wholeheartedly and people smooching and being huggy around the halls made the lad detest it so much. Valentine was on the 14th but he is still grumpy like it happened yesterday. Being on the duel piste, however, made him more annoyed because all he wanted to do was rest up and not participate in any class or sports.

Elisa walked onto the duelling piste, lips pursed in concentration and very much conscious of all the eyes watching her. There she was, representing team Slytherin once again, alongside two of her classmates. Their opponent was Ravenclaw, two of them she recognised to be in her year and another an upperclassman. She noted, with a pang of nervousness, that both were duelling captains. Gripping her chestnut wood wand tightly, she stood in position and willed her mind to concentrate on this upcoming duel. She would certainly do her best to bring victory to team Slytherin.

Round 1

Sunday, February 16, 2026.
Afternoon.

The round did not go as Axyen had hoped, sure, there was a bit of action; however, he would've been a lot more satisfied with both teams aiming for each other, but instead it was just the Ravenclaws taking action. Whatever was going on with the Slytherin team, Axyen wasn't really too sure, but still, the round went on. Even if the Slytherin team was being... oddly inactive, hopefully this is what woke them up: a fresh bit of pain.

"Alright, it looks like Jessamine is casting the second Fire-Making Spell at... Elisa... and it hits!" Unfortunately, Elisa was unable to dodge the incoming spell and took a direct hit. Good enough that they were quite literally set on fire, it was likely going to go out on its own, but the spell definitely was a powerful one. "Yikes... that flame definitely is going to stick around a little longer than usual, it appears..." Axyen guessed, judging from how strong the flame appeared to him. Adding onto the chaos, Edward would cast an infamous spell that frequently led to Axyen flinching at the mere sight of it.

"Woah!" Axyen stumbled back a bit. "Edward is casting the Cracker Jinx and... it hits Atlas!" Axyen loudly announces, squinting through all of the flashiness that naturally came with the jinx. Woah, Ravenclaw seems to be doing really good at the moment! Axyen thought to himself, and he liked a good strong action-packed start to a duel—that's how you get the audience invested earlier... or so Axyen would imagine, after all, why else watch the thrill that comes from a duel?!

Finally... Mylo was going to cast Petrificus Totalus... but they failed when they attempted to aim it at Archer. Axyen chose not to make any announcement or comment on that part, and instead focused on the Slytherin team who... aside from dodging whatever came their way.. or trying to, at least, did... nothing? "Hey guys!" Axyen called to the Slytherin team, though he was certain they would surely act once getting hit like that. "You guys should probably start casting spells or doing something!" Axyen said, he was unsure if they needed that reminder, but hopefully things get really interesting...

"Alright guys, the duels tend to only get more exciting and intense from here!" Axyen said with a smile. "So brace yourselves and make bets now on who you think will win!!" Axyen said excitedly, already imagining the many possibilities. You could never tell when the tides would abruptly turn in one's favor, that was the thrill of dueling.

That was the thrill Axyen lived for, and as the next round began... Axyen couldn't help feel that rush again... and feeling a bit tense just in case the unfortunately popular Cracker Jinx showed up. He had to have his reflexes especially high for that...!

It had been the first time that the beginning of a duel had gone so well for Mylo, or at least for their team. They had managed to get 2 spells off and hit 2 of their opponents, all while not getting hit themselves.

Granted the other team seemed to have stalled for some reason, maybe they hadn't heard the starting signal? But Mylo wasn't one to complain, if they stalled again though that's when he might start to wonder if something else was going on.

The fact that their own spell hadn't managed to leave their wand was annoying though, it probably wouldn't have stayed in their mind for long if Archer had managed to dodge it, but the fact that Mylo hadn't even managed to cast the spell would likely stick in their brain for longer than it should.

This wasn't the time to dwell on would've, could've, should’ve's though, there would be plenty of time for that after the duel. Now they just had to focus on the rest of the match and hope that they could manage to do the things they wanted to.

What were they doing? Elisa wanted to scream. It was as if everything had happened too quickly for the snakes to register; the moderator's announcement to begin, then all of a sudden their opponent's spells lurching toward them- toward her. She had no time to express her dismay at her team's poor reflexes or whatever it was that prevented them from doing anything at all for the first round, because just then two streaks of light zoomed at her direction. The first one she just barely dodged, but the second one, to her exasperation, hit her squarely on the chest. Elisa would later be greatful to discover that she had been lucky to escape the first spell -- a powerful cracker jinx whose radius her teammate Atlas would be subjected to; but right then all she could think of were the scorching flames leaping around her as well as Slytherin team's obvious failure.
